Work Text:
The pain in his chest radiated in waves across his entire body, and Percy swore that even his dip in the Styx wasn’t this bad. This was it though. The moment he saw that spike coming toward him…
~
“-know what to do! I saw him lying there and I couldn’t just leave him like that! No, I know it’s bad. Yes, father. Yes, I’ll look after him, I promise. I un- I understand that I am responsible for this. Yes, father.”
Percy blinked up at the mosaic on the ceiling above him. Snakes coiled around a staff. A winged messenger.
The pain in his chest was gone.
“Percy! You’re awake!”
Percy sat up and turned toward the surprised voice. Hermes.
“Hermes? What’s going on?”
“Please don’t be angry, Perseus.”
Hermes began to explain. He’d found Percy, dead, and couldn’t just leave him there. Couldn’t just let him die like that. So he’d brought him to his home on Olympus and made him a god. Given him new life.
“Why did you do this, Hermes? You knew I didn’t want this!”
“Because I love you. And when I saw you lying there, lifeless, I made the selfish decision to keep you. To make you mine, for eternity.”
“What makes you think I want to be with you after you’ve done this to me?” Percy shouted.
“I’m sorry, Percy. It’s already been decided. My father has already given you to me as my bride. It is the only way he would allow you to stay this way, Percy. The only way he will allow you to live. We’ll marry tomorrow.”
“You should have left me to die.”
“I love you, Percy.”
