Chapter 1: My Only Love

Chapter Text

The moonlight came through the window of the room and filled the place. The smell of desserts and cakes coming from the first floor of the inn flooded the place and the music coming from the record player in the room kept them relaxed. They needed to rest after finishing their exhaustive mission and Kakashi had found this cheap family-run place just above his bakery. Satsuki wasn't a lover of sweets, but she knew her teammates were. That's why she was not surprised when Sakura bought a bag of cookies to share with them (although Sakura gave hers to Naruto because she was not hungry).

Right now they were in the room that they shared as they were the only girls in the team, whenever they had to sleep somewhere, they shared a room and even a futon if necessary. Sakura brushed the raven-haired girl's hair while humming along to the rhythm of the song.

On rainy nights or on lonely days
Please color me with your shiny light

Satsuki never let her hair be touched for as long as she could remember. Only her mother could touch and style her hair, mostly because her mother loved to do hairstyles and with Satsuki's long hair it was very easy, so before she went to sleep her mother would braid her hair and then when she got up to go to the academy her mother would comb her bangs and pull her hair into a ponytail. After her death, Satsuki never had her hair styled or anything like that again, she simply pulled her hair back into a ponytail or left it loose.

That changed on a mission when Sakura noticed that Satsuki went to sleep with tangled hair. So she offered to untangle her hair to which Satsuki refused. But after the girl's insistence, Satsuki reluctantly agreed as long as Sakura would stop bothering her - it had nothing to do with the girl's attempt at a tender face, which made Satsuki's heart race-. And from then on Sakura would take care of untangling her hair before going to sleep when they were on a mission.

Satsuki looked out the window in an attempt not to fall asleep because of Sakura's delicate touch on her hair. The full moon was watching them from its highest point and Satsuki began to ramble. "The moon, the brightest star of the night, owes its light to the sun. Like the planets, the moon does not generate light and we see it because it reflects the sun's light," they were taught once at the academy.

My, oh my, oh my, oh my love
Be my only love (My only love)

"Satsuki-chan."

"Hmm?"

"Can I ask you a question?"

"I guess."

Sakura finished untangling her hair and sat down next to Satsuki on the floor of the shop. Satsuki raised an eyebrow at Sakura's amused look.

"What's your type of guy?" the girl asked with a playful smile on her face. Satsuki sighed.

Actually, she had expected Sakura to ask her that, not exactly today but at some point. Sakura and her had grown in trust during their time as a team. And she knew that Sakura was an inveterate romantic who dreamed of finding true love.

"I don't know" she admitted "I never thought about it" and Satsuki wasn't lying, it had been a long time since she had thought about boys or marriage or love. And if she ever had she didn't remember.

"Come on! You never imagined the kind of guy you would marry?" Satsuki shook her head "But, don't you have any idea of the characteristics you would like in your partner?"

"As i said before, I don't know, I didn't think about that" she said while lying down on the floor.

Sakura looked at her disappointed as she settled down next to her.

"What about you?" she asked her trying to divert the conversation.

Sakura smiled as she looked at her

"I like guys who are smart but who are also cool."

"I can see why you're not interested in Naruto at all."

Sakura laughed out loud while looking at her, Satsuki smiled. Hearing her laugh somehow made her heart feel warm. She never understood why that happened.

"Naruto is my friend, I just see him as that" she stated still laughing "Besides, Hinata and him make a better couple."

"So, are you some kind of cupid or something?"

"Maybe"

"Is that why you were asking me about my type, to find me a boyfriend?"

Sakura looked at her surprised

"Don't think I didn't notice your intentions."

"Well, you got me" said the girl as she raised her hands in defeat "But, would it really be that bad?"

"No, but I'm not interested in boys right now" she affirmed as she stared at the girl in front of her.

Satsuki liked Sakura's eyes, they were much prettier than any boy she had ever met.

In the Uchiha clan, there were physical characteristics that were maintained over the generations, such as black hair, black eyes and white skin. Now that she thought about it, no boy in his clan was pretty. They were just boring copies, even she was.

Actually, no boy in the village was pretty, at least not to her. She hoped Sakura wouldn't be interested in any ugly boys.

Sakura was beautiful, her pink hair emanating a strawberry scent, her green eyes were captivating and her face decorated with small freckles that were only visible when you got really close. Sakura was a beautiful porcelain doll. And it wasn't just physically, no, her personality and even her soul were beautiful.

Sakura was intelligent, she was kind, she fought for what she considered fair, she was rough sometimes but she always took care of those she loved. Sakura would forget her own well-being to care for those she cherished. She had matured.

If Satsuki had to choose what she liked most about Sakura, it would be her smile, she had a smile that could shine brighter than the sun and was as beautiful as the moon. She didn't need a starry sky to contemplate when she could see the beauty made person in front of her.

At least, for Satsuki:

Sakura was very annoying.

My only one, when I see you
I want to lean on you, I want to have you
A love like this would make
Even the most immature dream come true

But if Satsuki had to choose one type...

Now I believe
Every step we take (Step we take)
It's like a dance we perform together
My, oh my, oh my, oh my love (My only love)
Be my only love

Her type would be Sakura.

"You know, Satsuki-chan."

"Hmm?"

"If you were a boy, I probably would have fallen in love with you."

The music stopped and Satsuki continued to stare at Sakura expressionlessly.

Yes, Sakura was her type.

"I-I mean because you're cute, so, if you were a guy you'd be cute. Besides, you're smart and very cool and-"

"Let's go to sleep, Sakura," she said as she got up and settled into the bed they had to share.

Leaving a nervous Sakura on the floor of the room.

That night Sakura went to sleep thinking that she had made her friend uncomfortable. And Satsuki fell asleep with a smile.

Her type of guy was very annoying.

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
