Rainbow Dash often wondered if she would ever get used to the way Applejack touched her.
She couldn’t help but shiver at the way her girlfriend would affectionately nibble at her ear, the way she would pepper her face with gentle kisses, or even just the way she looked at her. It made Rainbow’s insides melt, and her legs feel shaky. She was a mess.
And Celestia, the way she would play with her feathers? Most pegasi treated their wings as something personal. You weren’t supposed to let others touch them unless you really trusted them. And truth be told, Rainbow would trust Applejack with her life if it ever came to it.
Applejack sometimes laughed at her for the way she blushed whenever they shared affection, and Rainbow could never find a clever way to retort. Applejack was her biggest weakness, and she couldn’t be bothered to act like that was not the case. If she was a few years younger, maybe she would mind it more, but the older she grew, the less she could bring herself to put up a tough front, especially not in front of Applejack of all ponies.
Maybe it was the fact she’d never allowed herself to cherish anything like this with anyone before. She’d had other girlfriends, of course, but she could never let them get too close. It scared her, even if, on some level, she craved it. But Applejack? Applejack never held back, and as much as Rainbow found it scary and unfamiliar, she always soaked it up. She was growing soft, she realized. It made her wonder how her younger self would feel if she could see her now. Rainbow huffed out a laugh at the idea. She wouldn’t be pleased, of that she was very sure.
“What’re ya laughing at?” asked Applejack, comfortably resting under Rainbow’s wing.
“I’m just thinking of something stupid, don’t mind me. Go back to sleep.”
Applejack didn’t question any further and instead just closed her eyes again. Rainbow watched her and felt her chest get a little warmer. It made her return to her original question, would she ever get used to this? Maybe. Maybe not. But the one thing she knew is that she would never get sick of it.
