Chapter Text

“Miorine! Miorine!”

Chuchu, with as much affection as she can, says that Suletta is an excitable golden retriever. Miorine disagrees with the comparison but she could not help but laugh when Suletta bursts through her office doors with the boundless energy of one.

She met Suletta at Asticassia School of Technology. A rocky start with the red head, who saved her from her much awaited plan to escape to Earth. But with time, she is utterly endeared. Truly. Suletta is adorable, kind, charming and dare Miorine say, gallant at times. This intimate attachment she has for the alpha scares her if it is not reciprocated then she might as well take it to the grave. She knows that it’s a very un- Rembran like attitude, but she’d rather be a coward than hurt herself and destroy the friendship she has with Suletta.

“I got these limited lunchboxes for us at the mall. Can you believe that it’s curry tomato? I wonder if we can make one but with your mother’s tomatoes.”Suletta chats excitedly. She notes the baggy mechanic jumper she wears, Suletta must’ve came from the hangar and assisted her Aunt Nyla and Aunt Wendy before getting their meals.

“We should.” Miorine says. She often agrees with Suletta, not that she has a heart to deny her. The omega in her preens at the thought of spending more time with Suletta.

“Really? I bet it would taste amazing!”Suletta organized the papers on the coffee table, and sets the documents to the side before setting their food down on the table. “I also bought you iced coffee. This has condensed milk mixed into it so it won’t be too bitter.”

Miorine suppresses a smile instead she thanks Suletta before moving from her desk to the couch beside the coffee table to eat with her. There’s a slight jolt on her person whenever she nears Suletta, it’s not painful on the contrary there’s a sense of delight that pricks her skin at the notion of their close proximity.

There’s a quick series of knocks at the door, “Miorine,”she hears Lilique call her, “Mr. Shaddiq Zenelli is here to see you. He wants to talk urgently about collaborating with us for our new LED Phototherapy system.”

Bullshit, Miorine thinks. The blonde alpha has no interest in medical technology, people would only get his attention if they have an extensive plan on a lucrative way to expound on the development of Grassley’s products and services.

“Tell him to wait.” Miorine almost made a show to gnash her teeth. The gall of the man to deprive her of what little time she has with Suletta.

“Miorine,”Suletta looks at her pleadingly, brushing the back of Miorine’s hand with her thumb to soothe her anger,“I can wait. Let him in. This could be a breakthrough if Grassley is willing to lend a hand.”

“You want me to go to-“ She bites her tongue lest she replies something that would give her away.

“Tsk.”She pulls back her hand, immediately Miorine dreads the loss of its warmth. “I’ll make this quick.”

“Then I’ll head out to the lobby.”

“What is so important that you had to disturb me on my break?”

Shaddiq eyes the recyclable utensils and lunchboxes before speaking, “Sorry if I disturbed your time with Ms. Mercury. Though I’m surprised that you still keep the company of such a spineless alpha among your peers.”

It was no secret that Suletta often hides at the thought of a confrontation, a complete opposite from Miorine, who is dwarfed by almost anyone but does not lack the enmity of a purebred chihuahua. Suletta’s tall and lean yet she makes herself look smaller by drawing herself back and hiding behind a friend.

“Say that again and I might just gouge your eyes out.”

“Peace.”Shaddiq raises his hands in surrender, “I’m actually here to placate you on finding a groom.”

“What?”Miorine doesn’t conceal her distaste, she scowls at Shaddiq.

“You’re almost past the age of courtship, if not for your father’s position no one would be vying for your hand.”Shaddiq’s eyes twinkle like an opportunity is presented to him. “Don’t you want to end the disdainful dueling tradition through the easiest path. Marry me, and everything will be like before this. Us together.”

She has heard this sentiment several times from many suitors that it is their very right to have Miorine’s hand in matrimony. If they had such hatred for the dueling system as Miorine has, then they should voice it out like she does when she and her father meet.

“Problem solved. Don’t you think?” The man says, stepping closer to Miorine’s space.  She stops breathing for a moment, the strong scent of Shaddiq invades her nostrils and nausea takes over.

“No.”Miorine gives him a gentle shove, more than he deserves, “It solves nothing.” The only groom that she’ll ever want does not share the same sentiment as her.

On his way out, Shaddiq shoulder checks Suletta, hard at the lobby. It staggers her but didn’t make her fall, “Talk some sense into that friend of yours. She’s almost past the right age of courtship. No alpha would want her.”

Suletta understood what he meant and for her part, she doesn’t look bothered instead she dusts the shoulder where Shaddiq bumped her, “Who she wants to be with is none of my business. And the same applies to you.”

Lilique watches the scene in quiet fascination as Suletta fixes him a look that made the proud alpha nonplussed and shrink to himself for a moment.
