Work Text:
A yawn followed by a quiet growl makes Kazuha look at his partner. He tries to stifle a giggle, as he sees in what state Wanderer seems to be. Rubbing his slightly tear filled eyes, another yawn escapes Wanderer as he tiredly sways on his feet.
It actually makes sense why Wanderer acts the way he does. Ever since traveling with Kazuha, they both have followed a simple routine. They would wander until the sun set, marking the time in which they would eat for the day and then try to find a spot to sleep. This routine would be followed for a good half a year, until today.
The sun is still high, as it is the middle of summer. At this time both of them would be slowly looking for a nice place to set up their tent and go to sleep, but instead they are still traveling through the steep Liyue terrain. Kazuha is used to changing his routine, having traveled throughout Teyvat for years. The same could not be said to the person next to him, it seems.
"How about we make a stop at the shore and I catch something for us?" Kazuha knows that Wanderer would never admit to needing rest or food and that's why he doesn't mention why they take a pause.
Fishing always eases Kazuha's mind, letting his thoughts drift like the water drifts with the current. He doesn't need to look up, to see his partner trying not to fall asleep while sitting. So without thinking, Kazuha stretches out one arm and waits for the other to come. Sometimes Wanderer comes in mere seconds and other times in minutes, but he always finds his way towards Kazuha. Hearing a quiet grumble and waiting a minute or two, Wanderer takes his usual spot next to Kazuha.
Guiding Wanderer's head towards his chest, he notices the other slowly closing his eyes and deflates a bit. Before Kazuha can let a smile grace his lips, he feels something pull against his fishing line. Having caught their dinner, Kazuha wakes the other up by nudging his cheek. Wanderer slowly opens his eyes and stretches, before leaving a bit of room for Kazuha to stand up.
Now sitting in front of a low burning campfire, they both eat their fill. Right as Wanderer has finished his fish, another one is held against his nose. Simply turning his head away from the food, Kazuha keeps pushing it closer to the other's mouth.
"Kazuha, I'm not hungry. You can have it," a low whine escapes the Wanderer.
"Come on my love, we both know that you need it." Seeing Wanderer's cheeks flush red, Kazuha lets out a giggle as he picks a bit of the meat off and places it in Wanderer's mouth.
What Kazuha said is sadly true. Even before they started their long travels, he always thought that Wanderer is a bit on the skinnier side. Having traveled and met enough people who voiced their concern about the other's weight, Kazuha decided to help Wanderer eat a bit more.
Having finished the second one, Wanderer lays down on the soft grass as Kazuha walks a bit further to set up their tent. He has found a nice spot, right under a few trees giving them shade from the hot sun. Returning, he sees Wanderer having fallen asleep where he left him.
With a smile, he lifts him up and makes his way towards their temporary stay. Laying the other down, Kazuha takes his usual spot right next to him and crawls closer. Taking Wanderer's head, he places it right where his heart is. Instantly, Wanderer relaxes and pulls Kazuha tighter towards himself without realizing. Patting the other's soft hair, Kazuha closes his eyes as the sound of the weaves and the birds outside lull him to sleep.
