In This Broken Bubble (We Are One)

Summary:

"I want a Linked Universe fanfic where Four doesn’t like Hyrule healing him. Not because the healing doesn’t work or anything, but because it works too well.

As in any time Hyrule tries to heal Four, he can feel the parts of his brain moving into light. Four can feel how each part of him presses against one another, as if trying to expand when there’s no space. The colors can feel it well, and each time they don’t know how to stop it.

Four keeps it under-wraps as much as he can, always trying to dodge Hyrule’s gaze during battles, making excuses as to why Hyrule should focus on someone else.

However, when hiding injuries from a healer, they’re bound to find out one way or another."

Saw this post and now I'm just rolling with it.
May be rewritten in the future to include more of Four avoiding Hyrule healing him

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

The first time Hyrule tried to heal Four, it had worked, but with some side effects that the Colors didn't necessarily... enjoy.

They never told Hyrule, of course, just made up excuses as to why he couldn't heal them. Or just ignored the injury altogether. Green had argued with the other Colors for at least half an hour, trying to convince them to let Hyrule continue healing them in the future and just slip away and split after. This had been met with a resounding "no" from the others and a comment from Vio about Hyrule possibly healing them enough to kill both them and Shadow.

He had no way of knowing what his healing did to Four and there was no way to tell the Chain without any of them freaking out. Legend would probably accuse them of dark magic, Time and Sky would probably be thinking the same thing but be too kind to say anything, Twilight would bombard them with questions about Shadow and what type of magic they use (the rancher had an odd... obsession with darker magic and realm travel for some reason). Wind would probably either be fascinated with them or be afraid of them for the rest of his life. Wars would most likely assume that some "Cia" character had cast a few spells on them, trying to get him back. Wild probably wouldn't care too much, he would just be afraid of one of them turning on the chain and killing them all. And then there was Hyrule. Rullie, would probably try to help Four become one person again, not understanding that they were their own people now.

How would they even bring it up in the first place? Hey, by the way, we can actually split into four people. Oh yeah, and our shadow is its own conscious being too that one of us may or may not have feelings for. But don't worry, we'll still get sick every time we go through a portal and Hyrule can't heal us because it will remerge us. Yeah, that would go down well. So every time they got hurt, they would make up some excuse to distract Hyrule before slipping off to split and take care of themselves. But it was only so long before they got hurt so badly they couldn't distract him or they were forced to split (whether from the pressure of a situation or magical reasons was yet to be determined).

Chapter 2: Part 1

Summary:

Wild, Hyrule, and Four decide to go out and gather materials. Twilight and Legend, not trusting the three gremlins decide to follow. Soon, the small group is jumped by a hoard of monsters. A fight ensues. The monsters, however, are infected and are much stronger than expected. They are going to need a lot more help than Twi and the vet. can provide...

Chapter Text

Four looks around frantically, this wasn’t getting any better. Wild was down to his last few weapons and had blood in his hair from where he had fallen and hit his head on a rock earlier. Wolfie had an arrow sticking out of his back right leg and part of his ear was torn and bleeding. Legend's winged boots had a few feathers missing, his red tunic was missing part of a sleeve, and he had a ring on every finger bosting every attribute he possibly can. Hyrule was bleeding from a slash on his arm but was attempting to heal it.

Four wasn’t in the best state either. Green had rolled their ankle earlier while he was leading, then had to let Blue lead for a while as his pain tolerance was higher than the others. But with Red distracting him, shouting at him about monsters that weren’t even affecting them at the moment, he had managed to earn them an arrow to the back, forcing Vio to take over instead. At this point, the small group was kind of at a stalemate. If something didn’t happen in their favor soon, they might actually lose this fight.

Four lifts his sword to block a swipe from a Moblin. Out of the corner of their eye, Vio can see Wild parry an attack from a Lizalfos only to be hit in the shoulder by another attack.

“Enough of this already! This isn’t worth it anymore!” Blue shouts at Vio.

“But if we split now, how will that affect the others? They have no idea what we can do.”

“Who cares?! Someone is going to die!” Red whines.

“Quit being so dramatic, Red!”

The three colors erupt into chaos until Green finally cuts in.

“Shut up! All of you! We are splitting and that is final,” he decides, pushing his way to the front of their mind.

Green parries the Moblin away before he raises the Four Sword to the sky. Reality seems to warp around them and there is a tug on his mind and soul as one becomes four. Courage and leadership; knowledge and logical thinking; emotion and brotherly love; anger and impulsivity.

Blue immediately goes after the Moblin as Red and Green go to help the vet and traveler. Vio knew that he and the other colors wouldn’t be much help alone, so he pivots on his heel and runs back to where he knows the rest of the chain is camping. He crashes through the brush, making more noise than a startled deer. Through the leaves, he can barely make out the dim embers of a fire that had long since died out. Feet hit the ground in a steady rhythm as he pushes through the last few branches. Every eye in the camp turns to Vio.

“Four? What’s wrong?” Wars questions as Vio raises his hands to rest on his head.

“Monsters,” he manages to get out, “We were jumped, too many, infected. We need help. Had to split, explain later.”

Time is the first to his feet, reaching for the Biggoron sword and a very interesting mask that the colors (or at least Vio) had never seen before. Wind is quick to follow with the phantom sword and Sky with the master sword humming in its sheath. Even though Time was the first one up, Wars is faster. Vio rushes to the front to lead them to the fight, trying to explain about the other colors as best he can while attempting to not trip over tree roots.

As they get closer, Vio realizes he can’t hear the sounds of battle anymore. His heart beats like a drum in his ears as worse-case scenarios run through his mind. Someone had died. They had all been killed and he was too late. They had been captured by the monsters. He was too late and wasn’t fit to be a hero after leaving his brothers to die alone.

He picks up his pace, pushes through the last few branches, into the clearing, and…

Chapter 3: NOT A CHAPTER

Chapter Text

Hello, just wanted to give you all a quick updated timeline!

So today is the last day of October. I know I said that I should have pt. 2 out by now, but school has been kicking my butt and I have had no time to work on writing anything. The new plan is to have the entire thing finished in three (3) months, give or take two (2). You can also follow this fic by hitting the subscribe button or commenting as I also respond to all comments with a time frame for an upcoming update 24 hours before posting the next/final part. Another way you can stay updated is by following my Tumblr account (@aquafire2008) where I plan to be posting updates on this and also have special events where you can get a sneak peek at certain parts.

That's all for now. Have a lovely rest of your day/night!
