Summary:

This is a world of suspicion, of lies and betrayal and backstabbing. This is a world stained with blood.

Still, two find the time for dancing. The scene is something to the left of a fairy tale.

The Shadow Queen waltzes with her guard dog.

One, two, three.

One, two, three.

They glide smoothly across the grass, dirt crumbling beneath their bare feet. Her blue dress flows like water, delicate and lovely. He knows that there is a ferociousness under the gossamer fabric. He knows that he is not in danger. Not from her, anyway.

One, two, three.

One, two, three.

They waltz through the glade, her gracefully, him with a slight clumsiness. She doesn’t mind. His feet are large, occasionally finding their way onto hers. She laughs every time.

One, two, three.

One, two, three.

His hands are on her shoulder and her waist, gentle as if afraid to break her. He knows that she is not so fragile, but he is careful anyway. He focuses on counting the steps, his wolf-like tail swishing in time. Her delicate wings flutter with it.

One, two, three.

One, two, three.

They dance the way one would in a fairy tale, the picture of a princess and her knight. But there is no ballroom, no orchestra, no sparkling chandelier or servants with drinks. There is only them, in their quiet little glade.

One, two, three.

One, two, three.

This world is not one of princesses and balls. It is one of bloodshed and betrayal. It is not a place for fairy tales, for loyalty and love. It is not a place for dancing.

One, two, three.

One, two, three.

If this were another world, there would be a princess dancing with her knight. In this world, there is a queen dancing with her hound.
