Summary
Nothing’s really happening at all and his life feels unbearable. A half-hearted panic seeps into Patrick’s chest and stays there.
Joe asks, “Why don’t you wanna go home, dude?”
Patrick stares at the ceiling and thinks that there’s no way the heavy, dull cement shouldn’t be buckling under its own weight and crushing them any second now. “I don’t know,” he mumbles. Then he sits up. “Just… stuff, I guess. School stuff.” He climbs up and goes to tug on his sneakers.
