Chapter Text

In the ancient city of Yeoju, lying in the province of Gyeonggi of the Joseon Dynasty, lived a mighty King Kim Jaejoong who ruled the kingdom along with his brothers Kim Junsu and Jung Yun-ho. While Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu were real brothers, Jung Yun-ho was their step brother, born to the Queen’s first husband. King Kim Jaejoong and Crown Prince Kim Junsu were kindhearted, generous, intelligent and well loved by the people. Prince Jung Yun-ho was shrewd and calculative and always eyed the crown. King Jaejoong had two sons Kim Junmyeon (13)and Kim Minseok (11). They were fit to rule. Prince Junmyeon was like his father kindhearted but considered weak as he was indecisive in nature. Prince Minseok was a born warrior. Crown Prince Junsu had a son Prince Chanyeol (8) born to his concubine.

One day King Jaejoong, Prince Junsu and Prince Yun-ho while crossing the city’s market area find a young boy caught fighting off the soldiers of the royal army. The boy was trying to save his friend. King Jaejoong is impressed by his bravery and courage displayed at such a young age. He calls the boy closer to him and asks for his parents to reward them.
“Unfortunately they are not alive my king.” answers the boy.
“What is your name?” asks the King.
“My name is Kim Jongdae but everyone calls me Chen my king.”
“How old are you?”
“I turned 10 this year my king.”
“Jongdae, would you like to live in the royal palace with me and my brothers?” asks King Jaejoong.
“Will I get food and clothes my king?” asks Chen.
“Of course.”
“How about toys and play mates?”
King Jaejoong laughs seeing his innocence and purity. “Yes and the Princes will be your playmates.”
“I am honored my king.” says Chen and bows.
King Jaejoong looks at his brother Prince Junsu who smiles at him as his sign of approval. Prince Yun-Ho remains silent.
“Then come long Prince Jongdae.” declares King Jaejoong and moves forward. Soon two soldiers rush to Chen and help him to climb one of the royal horses. And that’s how the street urchin Chen came to live in the royal palace and grew up to be Prince Jongdae.

Fifteen years later:

Prince Jongdae grows up to be intelligent, strong, handsome and well loved by the people. Even though he grew up in the royal palace he never forgets his roots. Always humble and ever grateful to his father King Jaejoong, he is loyal to the crown and never desires the throne. He is happy to have a loving family. He believes he is more of a warrior than a Prince. He is always found at the training grounds, training to the best among the best.

One day Prince Yun-Ho the commander of the royal army leads them to the gates of the holy city of Gongju-si where the sacred temple of Magoksa is located. He is followed by Crown Prince Junmyeon, Prince Minseok and Prince Heechul who is Yun-Ho’s son. Prince Yun-Ho wants to take over the holy city of Gongju-si as he fears the men of Gongju-si have turned treacherous.
“The city looks peaceful and serene to me. Are sure Uncle YunHo that they are plotting against us? asks Prince Junmyeon.
“Father and I have gathered enough proof cousin.” answers Prince Heechul.
“And I have heard from trusted sources that they are planning to take over our kingdom by helping our enemies.” says Prince Minseok.
“How?”
“They are forging weapons which have special powers cousin.” answers Prince Heechul.
“Father told me to protect this sacred city.” says Prince Junmyeon
“Your father is too kind hearted. He believes that everyone is good.” says Prince YunHo. “Since he is not here you must decide on his behalf Junmyeon.”
“Okay. Let me consult with my brothers.” Junmyeon turns around to look for Jongdae but finds him missing.
“Where is Prince Jongdae?” He asks Captain Sehun.
“Prince Jongdae and Prince Chanyeol are in a meeting with the soldiers my lord.” answers Captain Sehun.
“Okay. Can you please ask them to join us for the meeting?” says Prince Junmyeon.
“Yes my lord.” Captain Sehun bows and leaves.
“Shall we set camp here then cousin?” asks Prince Heechul.
“Okay. I am hungry.” answers Prince Junmyeon.

Meanwhile at the soldiers meeting:

Captain Sehun(21) finds Prince Jongdae and Prince Chanyeol in a wrestling match.
“Prince Jongdae. Prince Jongdae. You are wanted by your brother.” screams Captain Sehun. The crowd parts way and Prince Jongdae is found on the ground in a headlock with one of the soldiers.
Prince Chanyeol immediately gathers Prince Jongdae’s clothes and they leave to find their tents. After washing up and changing into their royal robes the Princes reach the Crown Prince’s tent.

The atmosphere is serious and the huge tent made of joining 3 tents together is filled to the brim with all the commanders and captains. Captain Sehun leads Prince Jongdae and Prince Chanyeol straight to Junmyeon’s make shift throne.
“Welcome Princes.” greets Prince YunHo.
“What is it Uncle? I hope nothing serious.” asks Jongdae.
“Well my brother Uncle YunHo and cousin Heechul have proof of Gongju-si treachery.” answers Junmyeon.
“So it’s no longer hearsay then?” asks Prince Chanyeol.
“No Chanyeol. I always suspected them. Now we have proof.” says Minseok.
“What is this proof you keep referring to?” asks Jongdae.
“Father. May I?” asks Heechul. Prince YunHo nods his head in approval.
“Guards.” Heechul commands his men.

Four guards carry a big wooden box and place it near the table. Upon Heechul’s command, they break open the box. Out pour hundreds of swords and arrows.
“We have a great bunch of highly trained spies who intercepted a suspicious caravan leaving the city of Gongju-si. We found many such boxes. This is just one of them.” says Prince Heechul.
“They are welded by the highly skilled blade smiths of Gongju-si.” says Prince YunHo.
“They are sharp enough to cut through anything. The arrows are steel tipped and have special coating too.” says Prince Minseok.
“Brother, we have found a document. It’s a promise of payment from the warlord of Jeolla to Gongju-si.” says Junmyeon. “I cannot believe father is not aware of this. They are selling weapons to our enemies brother. We have proof now.” Junmyeon looks at Jongdae.
“I understand but this is not sufficient enough for us to lead our army into the sacred city brother. Father advised us to attack and contain Jeolla and not Gongju-si.”
“But Father is not here. It is up to us to decide.” says Minseok.
“I think we should go ahead and contain Gongju-si” says YunHo.

Prince Junmyeon is confused. Prince Chanyeol looks at Jongdae for his intervention.
“Uncle attacking the holy city will create a riot.” says Chanyeol.
“So what do we do Chanyeol? Let our enemies get away with this.” snaps Prince Heechul.
Junmyeon looks at YunHo for advice. YunHo stares at him. Junmyeon understands his silent message.
“It’s decided. We will attack at the crack of dawn.”
“Brother Wait. If you have decided to attack then let me go first. Chanyeol and I along with Captain Sehun will go first and check things out.”
“What do want to check little brother?” asks Minseok.
“Yes what do you want to check. Cousin it’s better for Minseok and I to go first. We are commanders of your army.”

Junmyeon shakes his head and sighs. “My brothers, I know you are all eager to fight but I am more interested in meeting the Prince of Gongju-si. I have heard of his beauty and virtue. Let us meet him in peace.” He then walks to Jongdae and whispers to him. “Jongdae you are not ready for this fight.”
“So it’s decided. Prince Minseok and Prince Heechul will lead the way with their cavalries. Rest dismissed for the night.” Prince Junmyeon then walks out the tent.
Prince Heechul and Prince Minseok smile and leave followed by Uncle YunHo.
Captain Sehun and Prince Chanyeol look at Prince Jongdae.
“What are you going to do cousin?” asks Chanyeol.
“Just follow my brother’s command.” says Prince Jongdae and leaves the tent.

Chapter Text

Prince Baekhyun is informed of the invading army. He decides to seek refuge in the sacred temple of Magoksa. He practices magic in there.

Meanwhile:

Prince Jongdae, Prince Chanyeol and Captain Sehun have gathered their men and head towards the city of Gongju-si. When they are near the entrance of the fortress, they hide in the bushes and wait for one of their archers to give them the safe signal to enter, Prince Chanyeol questions Prince Jongdae’s decision to attack during midnight.
“So cousin, tell me why are we attacking them in the middle of the night, when the entire army will be here at the crack of dawn which is in few hours?”
“Knowing my brothers, especially Minseok, there will be a massacre. I want to get in before that to know what is really happening.” answers Jongdae.
“In other words, we are saving lives, aren’t we my prince?” asks Sehun.
“Yes Sehun.”

The men advance towards the fortress and climb the tall trees to enter. When the walk the parapet towards the inner gate, the tower guards sound the alarm. Prince Baekhyun and his men and the royal guards hearing the alarm start closing the temple doors and gate. A fight breaks and Jongdae, Chanyeol along with Sehun and his battalion fight the guards with swords and arrows. The fortress guards keep coming back in huge numbers. The fight goes on for two hours.

At the crack of dawn the royal army of Yeoju, headed by Prince Junmyeon marches close to the fortress. Prince Junmyeon, Prince Minseok and Prince Heechul look towards the fortress and wait for the first light to attack. Prince YunHo is behind them and is anxiously waiting too.

On the other hand, Prince Jongdae finally enters the inner gate and kills the guards. He signals to Chanyeol, who then sends Captain Sehun to who lets his falcon fly across as a sign to the waiting army of Yeoju. When Junmyeon sees Sehun and recognizes his falcon, he shouts in joy.
“That’s Sehun, Jongdae’s Captain. So Jongdae has entered the fortress. He did it without shedding too much blood. Bravo.”
“Let’s enter then.” shouts Minseok impatiently.
“Yes give the command to advance.” says Prince Junmyeon.
The royal army of Yeoju, shout and charge towards the fortress.

The breach of the fortress is informed to Prince Baekhyun who starts praying. Afterwards he hands over a sacred dagger to his chief guard Taemin and asks him to escape the temple.
“Taemin, guard this with your life. You know what to do.”
“Yes my prince.” says Taemin and rushes out of the temple on his horse.

Jongdae, Chanyeol and Sehun fight with their men near the temple while Junmyeon, Minseok have entered the city with their battalions and fight their way towards the temple. Jongdae while trying to enter the temple comes across Taemin’s horse and attacks him. Taemin falls off his horse and starts a sword fight with Jongdae. Taemin gets killed and Jongdae finds the dagger while searching his pockets. Not knowing what to do, he simply hides it in his satchel. The battle is won and Junmyeon’s army captures the city of Gongju-si.

The Princes Junmyeon, Minseok, Heechul and YunHo enter the temple of Magoksa where Prince Baekhyun is praying. Prince Minseok captures him and brings him forward to his brother. Prince Baekhyun stands straight with his chin up and head held high in front of the Princes. Junmyeon is taken over the beautiful Baekhyun.
“I have heard many travelers passing by sing songs of your beauty and bravery. Seeing you in person, I can tell they were wrong. You are more beautiful than their songs.” says Junmyeon mesmerized. The men around laugh loudly at him being whipped already.

Prince YunHo finally decides to take control of the situation.
“Prince Baekhyun, we have come here after we got proof of you, welding weapons secretly and selling them to our enemies. If you come clean and show us your weaponry you will be set free. Otherwise there will be dire consequences to face.”
Prince Baekhyun turns to YunHo. He calmly tries to defend himself.
“Your sources are wrong. We are a peace loving city. There are no weapons here that you claim of.”
“But our spies cannot be wrong. Tell us the truth and your people will not suffer.” commands Minseok.
“I have seen the swords and arrows. The craftsmanship definitely belongs to you.” says Heechul.
“I don’t understand where you got the said weapons when we don’t have them with us.”

Prince Junmyeon walks closer to him. “If what you speak is the truth then I accept it.”
“Brother no..” shouts Minseok.
“I have an offer. Prince Baekhyun taking the situation into consideration, the best solution is to marry me. Join hands with me, the future King and we can assure the safety of your people.”
Princes YunHo and Minseok are surprised by Junmyeon’s sudden offer while Heechul smirks reading Junmyeon’s mind.
“I prefer death.”
“Oh that is a preferred choice.” says Prince Minseok who nods at his man to kill Prince Baekhyun.

Just then Prince Jongdae and Prince Chanyeol walk in with their men. Hearing the commotion, Baekhyun turns towards his direction and sees the sacred dagger sticking out of Jongdae’s belt. He screams at the guard to stop. Baekhyun then approaches Junmyeon while not taking his eyes off Jongdae. Jongdae is awestruck by his beauty too and remains frozen in his place.
“Prince Junmyeon, promise me that you will protect my people and treat them with mercy. Then I will marry you.”
Prince Junmyeon smiles. “Your wish is granted.”
“Then I accept to marry you.” says Prince Baekhyun.
Junmyeon smiles happily while everyone around him start to cheer and offers his hand. Baekhyun looks at Jongdae and then the dagger and holds his hand.

Jongdae stares at him while Baekhyun leads Junmyeon inside the temple chambers to offer a prayer. Chanyeol and Sehun join him as everyone hailed and praised the new union.
“I smell something.” says Prince Chanyeol.
“What do you mean?” asks Prince Jongdae.
“He only asked for protection of his people and once offered immediately agreed to marry. Why?”
“Well we are going to find out soon.” says Jongdae. Chanyeol and Sehun look at each other and smile.

Chapter Text

Jongdae is thinking of Prince Baekhyun. He too has heard of the songs and stories of Baekhyun’s beauty and bravery.
“What are thinking about cousin?” asks Chanyeol.
“Nothing in particular.” answers Jongdae.
“Ah I see. Baekhyun is indeed a sight to behold. I wonder what is his motive behind accepting Junmyeon’s offer of marriage.”
“He is protecting his people.” answers Jongdae.
Sehun rushes to them. “Prince Junmyeon is coming to meet you my prince.”
“Thanks Sehun.”
Jongdae and Chanyeol walk out of the tent to find Junmyeon walking towards them.

Junmyeon smiles at Jongdae as he nears him. “Well done my little brother. As usual you fail to listen to orders.”
“Junmyeon listen. I was trying to..”
“Jongdae, I know. You don’t have to explain. Thanks to your quick thinking we won. Let’s celebrate brother.”
Jongdae sighs and then smiles at his brother.
“Since you took the honor of the first attack, tradition demands that you owe me a gift.”
“What do you want Junmyeon?”
“I see that you are in possession of a new weapon.” Junmyeon swiftly takes out the dagger off Jongdae’s belt loop.
“I want this beautiful dagger.”
“I think he has already given you two gifts Prince Junmyeon.” says Prince YunHo smiling at his nephews. “The city and the Prince. What more do you want? They count too.”
“Yes I guess.” answers Junmyeon and gives the dagger back to Jongdae.
“I hope you bring good news Uncle.” says Chanyeol.
“Yes Prince Chanyeol. King Jaejoong is coming here with Prince Junsu.”
“It must be serious for our fathers to come out here.” says Chanyeol.
“I bet he is coming to congratulate me on our victory.” smiles Junmyeon.

Few hours later:

King Jaejoong and Prince Junsu arrive at the city of Gongju- si with their troops.
Prince Junmyeon and Prince YunHo meet King Jaejoong in one of the royal chambers inside the palace of Prince Baekhyun. The king is furious over what has happened.
“How can you let this happen Junmyeon?” asks Jaejoong
“Father, we have proof of them supplying weapons to our enemies.”
“And these proofs are from spies you say?”
“Father, they are..” Junmyeon is interrupted.
“You have marched my army into a holy city and occupied it. How do you think our allies will react to this?” Jaejoong raises his voice in irritation.

At that Junmyeon looks at YunHo and Jaejoong snaps. “I asked you for an explanation son. Don’t look at your uncle for answers. This is your decision.”
Junmyeon head drops down in shame.
“Father I stand by my decisions and will face the consequences.”
“I am sure you will. I see that you are eager to succeed me but trust me you are not ready. I know you are not.”
Junmyeon is upset by his words. He nods his head in acceptance.
“I agree with you father. I will look for the proof of Gongju-si treachery myself.” Junmyeon leaves the chambers.

In Prince Baekhyun’s chambers:

Baekhyun is crying silently thinking of his fate. Just then the chamber doors open and Prince Jongin (18) rushes in. After his parents died due to an enemy attack, Prince Jongin comes to live his uncle the King and Prince Baekhyun.
“Cousin is it true? Are you going to get married?” asks Prince Jongin.
Baekhyun looks up at him with tears. It confirms Jongin’s fears. His heart aches for his cousin.
“Oh god, what are we going to do?”
“Jongin, I am going to accept my fate. I want you hide. If they see you then they will take you too.”
“I am not going to hide like a coward while you sacrifice yourself to save our people. I am next in line to serve. I will go with you.”
“No Jongin. We don’t know what dreadful things these people will do. They attack a holy protected city with lies as proofs. Moreover one of the Princes holds the sacred dagger.”
“No. Not the dagger. So Taemin was killed then.” Prince Jongin cries.
“I know how much you loved him. Cry baby brother. Cry as much as you want. I am not going to stop you.” Baekhyun then embraces Jongin whom he treats as a brother than cousin.

Prince Junmyeon rides out to find Prince Jongdae and Prince Chanyeol with Captain Sehun and his men enjoying their drinks. Junmyeon looks at Sehun standing seriously watching the Princes having fun. He walks up to him.
“You should relax a bit Sehun.”
“My Prince.” Sehun bows.
“No need to address me formally brother. At least when we are alone.”
Sehun is the bastard son of King Jaejoong, born to him and one of the Queen’s maid. He is never acknowledged by Jaejoong as his son but did not throw him out of the palace. Only Junmyeon, Chanyeol and Jongdae know of this secret besides the king. They treat him as a brother and cousin.
“I owe my life to you and Princes Jongdae and Chanyeol. I will always call you as my prince.”
“Sehun you are my brother just like Minseok and Jongdae. Enjoy the fruits of your hard work like them.”

Jongdae sees them and walks over.
“Welcome brother. I take that you have met father. What is our baby brother telling you?” Jongdae smiles affectionately at Sehun while Junmyeon is still holding on to him.
“Nothing much. He never complains. You have trained him well.” answers Junmyeon.
“I am being treated well.” says Sehun. Junmyeon hugs him.
“Listen both of you. I am going to investigate further and collect some proofs. Father is not happy with any of this.”
“What? You will be missing the banquet cousin.” says Chanyeol who joined them.
“I know but I have you three to drink on my behalf.” All of them laugh.
“Jongdae take care of father will you? Only you can calm him down. Don’t let him get angry with Minseok.”
“Don’t worry brother.”

Just then they see Prince Baekhyun walking up to the King’s chamber. Junmyeon sighs at his beauty. Jongdae cannot take his eyes off him.
“He’s a rare jewel.” sighs Junmyeon.
“Are you doing the right thing by marrying him brother?” asks Jongdae.
“It’s a marriage of convenience. I will give him protection and he offers the loyalty of his people.”
“Does father know?”
“He does now. He doesn’t approve though.”
“Yet you are going ahead.”
“Let’s just say I am going to prove him wrong.”
“I hope so brother. I hope so.” says Jongdae.

Chapter Text

That evening:

Prince Baekhyun along with his guards goes to the King’s chambers. He is stopped at the door by the soldiers of Yeoju. He sees Prince Jongdae coming towards him.
“Finally I get to meet you Prince Jongdae.” says Prince Baekhyun.
“I didn’t know that you were so eager to meet me Prince Baekhyun.”
“I wanted to meet the man who helped to capture an innocent city.”
“I am not sure you are innocent.”
“Well I am innocent till you have substantial proof to prove me guilty of treachery.” says Baekhyun.
“Oh I am sure my brothers will provide the evidence.”
Jongdae starts walking ahead, so the entourage follows him. They enter the chambers and stop at the inner door.
“Wait here with Prince Baekhyun.” Jongdae asks Captain Sehun. “Prince Baekhyun, I ask you to present yourself with more humility in front of his majesty. Captain Sehun here will take you to him, when you are called.” Jongdae winks at Baekhyun and walks inside the chambers. Prince Baekhyun is stumped for words at Jongdae’s flirting. Sehun hides his smile.

Inside the chambers:

The huge hall is filled with festivity. Beautiful dancers are dancing while the court musicians are performing. There is plenty of food and wine to drink. The men are enjoying themselves. Jongdae finds his uncle YunHo talking to his father’s council. He looks around to see his father, the king having his meal surrounded by Baekhyun’s council members. Jongdae nears his uncle YunHo and pulls him aside.
“I see that you have already calmed him down.”
YunHo hugs him. “You know, soon you will be the King’s brother. I know that you will do great.”
“Thank you for your confidence in me Uncle.” says Jongdae. They laugh.

King Jaejoong looks at them and smiles. He holds up his wine glass and the hall falls silent.
“I would like to toast to my son Prince Jongdae who brilliantly captured this city without much bloodshed. Another great warrior in my family. Let’s drink. Come here my son.” says Jaejoong. Everyone cheers for Prince Jongdae. Prince YunHo pats Jongdae’s back proudly. Jongdae goes to his father and his welcomed into his warm embrace.
“We missed you, Father. Especially Sehun and I.” says Jongdae.
“I missed you two. How is Sehun? Take care of him will you?” says the King.
“He is good. A Captain now. You know I will.”
“Good to know. Tell him I love him too but..”
“He knows father. Trust me. Uncle Junsu has always been kind enough to be as a father figure whenever he needed one.”
“I know. What would I do without him and Chanyeol, I often wonder. I know Junmyeon tries to be there for Sehun but I prefer you to take care of him.” says Jaejoong.
“I will father.” Jongdae hugs him. King Jaejoong hugs him back and sees YunHo coming closer.
“Take care of your brothers Jongdae.” He caresses Jongdae’s face fondly. “You are the glue to stick them together. The bond between brothers is thicker than anything in this world. This is the bond which makes my empire stronger.” Jaejoong’s eyes convey earnest emotions to Jongdae.

Prince YunHo gets closer to the father and son and hears the King’s words. He looks at Prince Minseok and Prince Heechul who were looking at them too and drinking. Everyone knew that the king always has a soft corner for Prince Jongdae.
“Father, I was hoping that my decisions will spare unnecessary losses for our men.”
“I know you always have their best interests in your heart my son. You are a good man. Bold and courageous, leading our men to many victories but I wish you were a great. Great men stop things knowing when they are wrong. They would stop things no matter who ordered. That’s the man I want you to be. A great warrior but even greater man to lead his people wisely.” King Jaejoong looks into Jongdae’s eyes almost pleading. Jongdae understands.
“Thank you father for sharing your wisdom with me. I have a gift for you.”
The king laughs and hugs him. Jongdae motions his guard to bring forward a box of special perfume. The king accepts his gift.
“And what do you want in return as a gift? Ask me anything son?”

Jongdae calls out to Capitan Sehun to enter. He brings Prince Baekhyun with him.
“Father, this is Prince Baekhyun.” says Jongdae. Prince Baekhyun stands proudly in front of the king. The king is taken over his beauty. He holds out his hand and Prince Baekhyun, bows and accepts it.
“As you know, my brother, Prince Junmyeon wishes to marry him and join his people to our empire. I wish you grant them your approval. That will be a good gift for me.
King Jaejoong looks at Prince Baekhyun and smiles.
“You have a beautiful city your highness. It’s filled with prosperity and fine things. You have done well here.”
“It was more beautiful and peaceful before your army decided to attack us without a warning.” says Prince Baekhyun.
“Oh he’s quite feisty.” whispers Prince Chanyeol to Prince Jongdae. He looks at Prince Baekhyun and the king. “Something tells me he is not going let us see the end of this.” He whispers to Captain Sehun. All three look at each other in agreement.

King Jaejoong laughs. “I admire your bravery and honesty. You will make a fine King consort to my son.” Everyone cheers loudly.
“The king is impressed.” says Prince Jongdae.
“I am sure you will make an able consort to Prince Jongdae. Prince Junmyeon already has a fiancé waiting for him. What do you say Prince Jongdae? I wish for him to be your first and only husband.” says King Jaejoong. He then opens the perfume box which Jongdae gifted him and pulls out a bottle. He sprays his neck and wrists with it.
Prince Jongdae is shocked and Prince Chanyeol’s jaws drop open. Captain Sehun smirks. Prince Baekhyun seething with anger looks scornfully at Prince Baekhyun.
“Ah Father, I .. um ..I “ Jongdae stutters. King Jaejoong laughs loudly.
“The boy fights with enemies and wins the fiercest battle but the thought of marriage freezes him with fear.” Everyone laughs. Prince Chanyeol and Captain Sehun wink at each other in agreement.

Jongdae jaws open and shut as he is unable to comprehend what is happening in front of him. The King looks at him fondly.
“So tell me son, when can I set up this wedding? I am eager to see you both married.”
“I um. I need a drink.” Prince Jongdae turns around to grab a glass of wine from the nearest table. Just then the king screams loudly in pain. He turns around to see the King’s skin turn red.
Prince Minseok runs to him immediately. “Father, father, what’s happening?”
The King falls down screaming in pain. His skin looks burnt and there is a strong smell of ashes. Prince Minseok tries to touch him and gets his hand burnt. Prince Heechul pulls him back. Prince Jongdae, Prince Chanyeol rush to the king. Captain Sehun and the king’s guards form a circle around them.

Prince YunHo rushes to the king. “Someone call for the healer. The perfume he used is poisoned.”
“Somebody help him.” shouts Jongdae in distress.
“The perfume was given to him by Jongdae.” Screams Prince Minseok. “The king has been poisoned by him.”
“Father, I ..somebody help him” Jongdae begs the crowd.
The king looks at Jongdae, “Why Jongdae, why?” screaming in pain.
“Guards get the healer now. Seize the murderer Jongdae.” commands Prince YunHo.
“Yes seize the murderer of the king. Father. No” screams Prince Minseok.
When the guards try to capture Prince Jongdae, Prince Chanyeol and Captain Sehun fight them off.
“Prince Jongdae run. Save yourself. We will take care of everything.” shouts Prince Chanyeol on top of his voice. Captain Sehun pushes off the guards trying to catch Prince Jongdae.
“But father..”
“Run Prince. We cannot keep them away from you much longer.” screams Captain Sehun.

Seeing things around him, Prince Baekhyun takes a sword and joins Prince Jongdae.
He grabs Jongdae’s hand, “Come with me. I can help you.” He pulls Prince Jongdae towards the balcony. Together they jump down into a pool and run ahead towards the royal stables. Meanwhile the healer reaches the king. He kneels down next to him and checks for his pulse.
“I am afraid that he is dead.”
Prince YunHo falls down on his knees crying. Prince Minseok, Prince Heechul run down with their guards and find Prince Jongdae and Prince Baekhyun escape on a horse right in front of their eyes.

Chapter Text

Prince Chanyeol and Captain Sehun along with few guards who are close to Prince Jongdae are imprisoned as traitors. Prince Heechul sends word to Prince Junmyeon informing him of his father’s death and to attend an emergency council meeting. While being taken to the dungeons, Prince Chanyeol’s trusted spy Captain Zhang Yixing springs upon the guards and there is a fight. Captain Yixing manages to free Prince Chanyeol and Captain Sehun and they try to escape but unfortunately Captain Sehun is short down by an arrow. He falls off the horse wounded. He is thrown in the dungeon.

Prince Junmyeon arrives and grieves the King’s death. In the emergency council meeting, he is crowned as the King and Prince Minseok as the crown prince. Junmyeon is informed that his uncle the crown prince Junsu was also poisoned to death. Since Prince Chanyeol was a concubine’s son and now deemed as a traitor, Junmyeon is chosen as the King. Prince Heechul is appointed as the commander of chief. Prince YunHo is the regent and the ultimate decision maker. Two days later, Junmyeon comes to know that Sehun is in the dungeons. He goes to visit him.

When he arrives, Sehun is lying on the floor with bruises all over his face and body. He was being beaten to admit the truth and Prince Jongdae’s plans but Sehun was not speaking at all.

“My little brother. I am saddened by the things which have occurred in my absence. Confess the truth. I will set you free. Sehun please don’t be stubborn. I can’t see you getting whipped.” says Prince Junmyeon.

Captain Sehun remains tight lipped. Prince Junmyeon gets closer to him and whispers, “At least tell me where Chanyeol is hiding. I can help you out of here.”

“I am not going to betray my brothers your majesty. I am not aware of their whereabouts.” Sehun answers.

Junmyeon stands up and calls for a guard. “Can you get a healer for him? Also get him some food and clean water.”

“Yes your majesty.” answers the guard and leaves.

“Since you are unwilling to talk to me brother, you leave me no choice. You will remain here till you decide to confess.” says Prince Junmyeon and leaves.

Few hours later:

Prince Chanyeol and Captain Zhang Yixing reach the palace of Yeoju. Instead of going directly to the main palace, Prince Chanyeol goes to his father’s palace. There he finds out about Prince Junsu’s death. Even he was poisoned to death. Prince Chanyeol mourns the death of his father. He then leaves the palace along with Captain Yixing and they travel towards the desert near the city of Gongju-si knowing that Prince Jongdae and Prince Baekhyun will be hiding there.

Meanwhile that night:

Prince Jongdae and Prince Baekhyun reach the desert outside the city limits of Gongju-si. They take refuge there as it is impossible for the soldiers to find them there, especially in the night. Prince Jongdae is upset.

“I cannot believe Junmyeon killed my father.” says Jongdae.

“What do you mean?” asks Baekhyun.

“The box of perfumes was given to me by Junmyeon. I couldn’t find a gift soon.”

“He did it. The motive is clear. He has been crowned as the king.” says Baekhyun.

Prince Jongdae stares at him and walks to his horse. “I didn’t kill my father. I am being framed.” He whispers softly. Prince Baekhyun hears him. He walks closer to Jongdae and pats his back gently.

“I believe you.”

“You shouldn’t be here. I shouldn’t have allowed you to come.” says Jongdae. Baekhyun turns him around and whispers, “But you did.” Baekhyun then tries to kiss him. Jongdae pushes him away. “You are my brother’s betrothed. I promised him that I will kill you, if he couldn’t have you.”

Baekhyun inches closer to Jongdae again and almost whispers seductively to him,”Well kiss me first and then kill me later.” He kisses Jongdae on his lips. Jongdae kisses him back. They kiss for few minutes. While Jongdae is engrossed in the kiss, Baekhyun tries to remove the dagger from Jongdae’s belt. Jongdae hears it and pushes him away. Baekhyun then finds a sword from Jongdae’s horse and tries to kill him. A fight ensues between them. Jongdae pulls out the dagger and throws at Baekhyun but it misses him and falls in the sand below. Baekhyun hits him with the hilt of the sword. Jongdae then grabs the dagger. When he grabs it from the sand, the button on the top of the dagger’s hilt gets activated and lights up. When Jongdae springs on Baekhyun, he gets pulled into a time wrap. He sees the sequence of what happened between Baekhyun and him again and again.

When Jongdae comes back to the present, he tells Baekhyun what he saw. Baekhyun looks at the empty hilt of the dagger and screams.

“You used up all the sand.” Baekhyun is angry. Jongdae realizes what had happened. He marvels at the dagger.

“This is incredible. So releasing the sand, turns back time. Only the holder of this dagger is aware of what has happened.”

Prince Baekhyun stares at him angrily.

“The person can go back in time and alter events, change history and no one knows but him.”

“Give it back to me.” Baekhyun tries to pull the dagger.

“Answer me Prince. How much can he turn back time?”

“No. I won’t. You destroyed my city.”

“Now I understand. Our invasion of your city was not for the weapons. It was for this dagger. Junmyeon wanted this dagger. He wanted to change things. He could foresee everything. With this dagger in possession, he wouldn’t be just a king but the most powerful ruler.”

“What are going to do now?” asks Baekhyun.

“I don’t know. I am tired. Let’s sleep. Maybe I will be able to think clearly in the morning.”

And so Prince Jongdae and Prince Baekhyun spend the night in the desert each thinking of ways to outsmart the other in the morning.

Chapter Text

The next morning, Prince Baekhyun wakes up to Prince Jongdae brushing his horse and removing its decorative accessories.

“What are you doing? Where are you going?”

“I am trying to go the city of Jeolla and find my uncle Prince YunHo. He is the only one who will believe me and help. He’s the only one I can trust. He will see things the way it is. He will see that I have been framed by Junmyeon. I need to find out about what happened to Prince Chanyeol and Captain Sehun.”

“I can find out for you.” says Baekhyun.

“How will you?” asks Jongdae.

“Watch me.” He then sits on the ground and holds his hands up and forms a ball of fire. Out of the ball, two falcons emerge. Baekhyun then whips his hand in the air and two parchments fall on his lap. He writes on them using magic and then ties them to the legs of the birds waiting. “Fly away and seek.”

The falcons fly out in two different directions.

“I did not know you can perform sorcery.”

“This is good magic. I am a healer and guardian of the sacred temple of Magoksa. My magic heals, guards and protects. My pets will find news of them. Since they flew out separately, I am sure your friends are not together.”

“More chances of survival. Thanks. Now I am leaving.”

“I am helping you out and you are planning to abandon me in this desert.”

“Fine. Come along.”

Both Princes get ready and leave in search of Prince YunHo.

Meanwhile Prince Minseok and Prince Heechul are in hot pursuit of Prince Jongdae. They are following him by trying to track the horse Prince Jongdae is riding.

One of the falcons, reach Prince Jongin who was hiding in Prince Baekhyun’s village house. He reads the parchment and goes to palace disguised as a beggar. When he reaches the common markets, he moves around and enquires about the whereabouts of Prince Chanyeol and Captain Sehun. That’s when he comes to know about how Prince Chanyeol escaped and Captain Sehun is imprisoned in the dungeons. Prince Jongin finds the healer who goes daily to change Sehun’s bandages and give him food and water. When the man sees him, he bows down. The healer turns out to be Prince Baekhyun’s guard’s brother. He makes a plan with Prince Jongin.

The next morning when the healer gets ready to visit the dungeons, instead of the slave boy, it is Prince Jongin, dressed in his clothes carries the tray of food and water. They get into the dungeons without raising any alarms. With the help of Prince Jongin’s magic, the guards are put to sleep while standing guard. After the healer, removes Captain Sehun’s bandages, Prince Jongin then touches his back to heal his wounds. Captain Sehun heals instantly. He turns around to see Prince Jongin.

“Who are you? You are not the slave boy who comes everyday.” Sehun asks curiously.

“He is Prince Jongin, cousin of Prince Baekhyun.” answers the healer.

“I have been asked by my cousin to help you escape. Come with me. I will take you to your Prince.” says Jongin.

“How do I believe you?” asks Sehun.

Prince Jongin then makes a ball of fire and in that they can see Prince Jongdae and Prince Baekhyun riding towards the city of Jeolla.

“Now do you believe?” asks Jongin.

“Are you a sorcerer?”

“No I am a healer and one of the sacred guardians in the temple of Magoksa. We practice magic to heal and protect.” answers Jongin.

“Your highness, there isn’t enough time. We must leave now before the guards wake up.” says the healer to Prince Jongin.

“Are you coming?” asks Jongin, giving Sehun his hand. Sehun looks at his hand and then at Jongin. He then holds it and stands up. He feels an amazing power cruising through his body, making him more powerful.

“Let’s go.”

The second falcon reaches Prince Chanyeol and Captain Yixing who were nearing the desert of Gongju-si. Chanyeol reads the parchment and they start moving forward towards the city of Jeolla.

King Junmyeon announces a huge reward for capturing the traitor Jongdae. The announcement reaches far and wide and many are looking for Jongdae to find and hand him over to the authorities and collect the reward money. Unaware of it, Prince Jongdae is moving in the deserts with whiny Baekhyun. They argue about everything. How to find the right kind of sand to fill the hilt of the dagger so that it works and how to convince Prince YunHo that Jongdae is not a murderer.

“Can you slow down? I am used to walking for hours in the desert.”

“Get used it to.”

“Spoken like a true Prince of Yeoju. So full of yourself. As if the world belongs to you as your birth right.”

At that Jongdae turns around annoyed. “I wasn’t born in a palace like you. I was born in the slums of Yeoju. Lived in the streets begging for food.”

“Then how did you become a Prince?” asks Baekhyun.

“The King found me in the market one day. He took me to the palace. He gave me a home and a family. He gave me his love. And now I have lost everything.” Jongdae looks deeply into Baekhyun’s eyes. Baekhyun finds sadness, pain and grief. He is touched.

After walking for few hours, Prince Baekhyun tricks Prince Jongdae by hitting him hard on his head and escapes with Jongdae’s horse and the sacred dagger. When Jongdae comes to his senses, he meets the leader of a group of bandits. They disguise as merchants and steal to survive. Jongdae tricks them to help him find Baekhyun. They find Prince Baekhyun in the middle of the desert. The bandits capture Prince Baekhyun and Jongdae retrieves the dagger from him. While riding with the bandits Prince Baekhyun finds out that Jongdae had struck a deal with them to find Baekhyun. He had traded him to be sold as a sex slave to a rich merchant. Baekhyun is furious. They reach the bandits hideout and Prince Baekhyun is taken to be cleaned up for the sale.

Prince Jongdae then is taken to another tent where he is given new set of clothes and soap and shown to a bathing tub filled with hot water. After he finishes his bath, Prince Jongdae is led to the main tent where the leader is found eating and drinking.

He is offered a plate of food and wine. Then the music begins and the slaves start dancing in front of them. Prince Baekhyun is one of them. When Jongdae sees him, he is mesmerized by his beauty.

“He is beautiful isn’t he? You can have him tonight if you can pay me well.” whispers the leader.

“No I will pass. I can’t afford him.”

“Too bad. He is free for the night but tomorrow I will sell him.”

“Good for you.”

After dinner, Jongdae goes back to his tent to rest for the night. That’s when he hears two guards speaking that the leader found out that Jongdae is the traitor who killed King Jaejoong and has escaped. Now king Junmyeon has announced hefty reward to bring him in. The leader will take him to the king in the morning and collect the reward himself. Jongdae escapes the tent by killing the two guards with the help of his dagger. When he is about to leave on his horse, he finds Prince Baekhyun running towards him. Jongdae realizes that he has escaped as well. Together they escape the bandits and ride towards the city of Jeolla.

Chapter Text

They arrive at the gates of Jeolla the next morning. King Jaejoong’s and Prince Junsu’s funerals are being held together.
“What? That’s Uncle Junsu. How did he die?” Jongdae starts shivering with emotions. Prince Baekhyun hugs him to comfort.
“He was always kind to me. I wonder whether Chanyeol knows about his father.” cries Jongdae.
“We will find out.” Baekhyun discreetly gets a falcon to fly to Chanyeol.
“This is getting weirder now.” says Prince Jongdae. Jongdae and Baekhyun witness a huge turnout of mourners from far away lands. Prince Baekhyun sees many foreign dignitaries whom were guests in his royal court.

Jongdae sees his uncle YunHo, Prince Minseok and Prince Heechul But not King Junmyeon.
“Why isn’t he here?” He whispers to Baekhyun.
“It’s suspicious.” says Baekhyun.
“Wait. I get it. The sands that fuel the dagger.. there’s more of it hidden right? Somewhere in Gongju-si. That’s why Junmyeon has made it his base camp. No wonder our men are sent searching for it all over Gongju-si. I must meet my uncle soon.” Jongdae is about to leave when Baekhyun holds his hand.
“It’s dangerous. Don’t go.”
“Only he can help me. Us. I need to go.”
Prince Baekhyun kisses Jongdae’s hand and lets him go. “Come back safe.” He begs. With the kiss, Baekhyun transfers an healing energy into Jongdae which makes him stronger. Jongdae rushes to find Uncle YunHo.

Prince Jongdae manages to slip a note to Prince YunHo without anyone seeing him. He runs back to Prince Baekhyun. When he reaches Baekhyun, he is hugged tightly by Baekhyun who kisses him on his mouth.
“I see you managed to find your uncle. Where are you meeting him?” Baekhyun asks.
Prince Jongdae who is stumped by the hug and kiss, a clear of fond emotions displayed by Baekhyun towards him mentally calms himself before answering. He can feel his heart beat faster.
“I have asked him to meet me at the market place.”
“Then come let us go.”
Together they merge with the crowd and find a hidden room near one of the fruit shops in the market. Soon Jongdae sees Prince YunHo checking out the fruits. He sees the tattoo in his right arm and confirms that it is indeed him disguised as a soldier.

“Uncle YunHo, here. Come.” whispers Jongdae. Prince YunHo sees him and moves towards the hidden room. There once inside, Jongdae hugs his uncle. Prince YunHo pats his head and back.
“I didn’t kill father, uncle. You know I would never do such a thing. I loved him.”
“But your actions speak otherwise.” says Uncle YunHo.
“I had no other choice but to flee uncle. I have to prove my innocence. Junmyeon was the one who gave me the box. He was the one who poisoned father. He’s not here. At his own father’s funeral. He remains in Gongju-si. I wonder why?”
“Jongdae listen. He’s a king now. Him being there will reinsure our allies that he is indeed after the proofs of their treachery.”
“No uncle. He is not after that. He is after power. That’s why he killed father. See uncle, Junmyeon is searching for a sacred dagger. One that helps in time travel. It uses a magical sand which is available only in Gongju- si. That’s why he invaded them.”
“What are you talking about? What dagger?”
“Uncle, remember after the battle, Junmyeon saw a dagger which I took from one the guards. He wanted it and you stopped him from taking it from me. That dagger.” says Jongdae. Prince YunHo has an unreadable face.
“This mystical dagger you speak of. Do you have it with you now?”
“Yes. Here it is.” shows Jongdae. He pulls out a satchel and opens it to find it empty. That’s when he realizes that Prince Baekhyun had taken it from him and has escaped.

“Where is it? Are you making it up?”
“No” Jongdae sees his uncle’s hands. They are burnt. “Why are your hands burnt?”
“I tried to help your father. Is something wrong?” YunHo sees the confusion in Jongdae’s eyes.
“No no.”
“You don’t trust me now. Do you?”
“I can’t believe that Junmyeon did this. He’s my brother. How could he betray me like this?”
“I cannot speak for him. Perhaps he never thought of you as one.”
“Just someone who could fight his battles and keep his wine glass filled.” Jongdae takes a dig at prince YunHo.
“My service to your father was different. We are brothers of the same blood.”

Just then an arrow flies past him. Jongdae barely escapes and runs outside. Soldiers descend upon him and he fights his way out. Prince Minseok and Prince Heechul fight him. He wounds them and runs. Soon the archers start shooting arrows at him.
Minseok catches him and they fight fiercely. Jongdae sees his wounded arm and hits him with the hilt of the sword. Minseok falls down screaming in pain. Jongdae escapes. YunHo, Minseok and Heechul return to Gongju-si. YunHo convinces Junmyeon that Jongdae tried to kill him and send specialists to find him. Junmyeon gives him permission so YunHo arranges for a group of covert soldiers who are silent and deadly. He instructs them to find Jongdae, take the dagger and kill him.

Meanwhile:

Jongdae tracks Baekhyun and finds him in the desert. He tells him that it was Uncle YunHo who murdered his father and not Junmyeon. He also tells him that YunHo knew about the dagger.
“I will seek my revenge for your betrayal later. Tell me why YunHo is after this dagger. There is more to it than just time travel.”
“Fine.” Baekhyun starts to tell him the story behind the dagger.

The legend is that decades ago, the Gods worshipped by Baekhyun’s people unleashed a mighty sandstorm to destroy humanity as they were angry with their way of living. One little girl seeing the distress her people went through, braved to sacrifice herself instead. The Gods were touched by selfless act of bravery and decided to spare her people. They then trapped the sandstorm which was called “Sands of time” in a large sandglass. Prince Baekhyun and his cousin Prince Jongin were the last of the guardians of the sacred dagger, given to the young girl by the Gods. The dagger is powerful enough to pierce the sandglass and break it, which would destroy the world. Prince Baekhyun learnt from his spies that Prince YunHo intended to use the dagger to travel back in time to kill King Jaejoong. It will help him reset the events and then automatically become the king of Yeoju.

Chapter Text

During the course of the night, Prince Baekhyun tells Prince Jongdae of the impending danger. He informs him of the secret guardian temple of Magoksa which is a sanctuary. He explains that the sacred dagger can be hidden inside the temple safely. He begs Jongdae to give the dagger back so it can be placed safely.
“I cannot let you go alone. I will come with you.” says Jongdae.
“Are you going to help me Jongdae?” asks Baekhyun.
“I don’t see anyone else here.”
Baekhyun smiles and jumps on him and kisses. Jongdae pushes him away at first. Then he sees the passion burning up in Baekhyun’s eyes so he kisses him back. They fall back together inside the tent and end up making love that night.

The next morning:

They ride together for a while only to stop at an oasis to drink and fill up their water satchels. It is where the bandit leader Lee Taemin captures them again.
“Well well. I have finally found you two. I am going to hand you over to your brother who has doubled the reward money. With that money I can survive for another decade or so.” Just as Taemin’s men tie up Prince Jongdae and Prince Baekhyun, they hear noises of riding horses and other unearthly sounds. They ignore it and ride ahead. When the group stops for the night to rest they are attacked by the covert group of soldiers who were sent by Prince YunHo.

Prince Jongdae and Prince Baekhyun team up using the dagger and magic without revealing and save Taemin’s bandits from getting killed. Taemin is shocked and wants to how they managed but they convince him that it was purely due to instinct. Taemin decides to help them to get to the sanctuary. Prince Baekhyun promises to reward him.

Meanwhile Prince Minseok and Prince Heechul reach the camp sight where the covet warriors were killed. They decide they are on the right track and move forward. They are a day behind in journey. Prince Chanyeol and Captain Yixing are right behind them, following them silently. After another two hours Prince Jongin and Captain Sehun reach the camp sight.

When they reach the temple of Magoksa, Prince Jongdae finds its in ruins.
“I thought it will be a beautiful building.”
“Sorry to disappoint you but the building couldn’t withstand the time.” answers Prince Baekhyun. He sits down at the entrance to pray. Jongdae stands guard next to him. Taemin’s men the bandits look around the temple for enemies and that’s when they find out dead bodies of the temple guards.

Taemin rushes to alert the Princes.
“It’s Prince YunHo. The covert warriors have been here. Prince Yun-Ho knows of this temple.” cries Baekhyun. “I must be quick and place the dagger now.” He runs inside the sacred chamber only to find the altar burning. Baekhyun falls on his knees crying. Suddenly they hear soldiers. Jongdae turns to find Prince Minseok and Prince Heechul with their men. Minseok screams at Jongdae while Jongdae tries to tell him about YunHo’s betrayal. He tells him that he is innocent and it was all YunHo’s doing. Heechul distracts Minseok by asking him not to listen as Jongdae is accusing his father.
“Minseok whom would you believe? Me your cousin, your blood or this traitor? He killed the man who took him in and gave him a family. Don’t listen to him.” says Heechul. Minseok is confused. Jongdae pleads for their sake of brotherhood.
“YunHo wanted you to be hanged without a trial. It was Junmyeon who wants you back alive.” says Minseok.
“See. It’s YunHo who hired the covert warriors whom father had banished years ago because of their malpractices. They have killed everyone here.”

Minseok starts to believe Jongdae. “Okay then tell me why is he trying to get you killed.”
“Don’t believe him cousin.” says Heechul.
“Can you please leave? I want to talk to him privately.” says Minseok. Heechul goes out only to be killed by an arrow. His screams of pain, make Minseok come out to be shit dead by another arrow. Jongdae runs out amidst the arrows and finds both of them dead. That’s when he realizes they are being attacked again by the covert warriors.

A deadly fight ensues. Taemin and his bandits fight hard but are losing. When Prince Baekhyun who is tied up by Minseok’s men is attacked, Prince Chanyeol and Captain Yixing arrive. They join the fighting. Prince Jongdae nearly misses a sword to his throat. He is saved by Captain Sehun. Prince Jongin who arrives with him runs to Prince Baekhyun. Together they run towards the inner chambers to place the dagger safely. The warriors run behind them so Jongdae runs after. The warriors reach inside and fight with the Princes. They wound them and steal the dagger and vanish.
When Jongdae finds them, both are sitting on the rock and crying.

Jongdae tries to calm Baekhyun.
“How can I calm down? I was to protect dagger no matter the consequences. It was sacred calling. Our sacred calling.” He says and hugs Jongin. “We have failed our destiny.”
“I promise you, we will get it back. Together.” Jongdae then kisses Baekhyun.

Later that night:

Prince Chanyeol, Prince Jongdae, Captain Sehun and Captain Yixing spend time strategizing. Prince Chanyeol tells him about how his father Prince Junsu was poisoned to death by Prince YunHo. He gives Jongdae the letter written by Prince Junsu. When Jongdae reads it he is shocked. The letter informs him how King Jaejoong suspected that Jongdae was his long lost son. King Jaejoong’s first wife, the queen was killed after she gave birth to a boy who was born under the king’s star. It is believed that the child will grow up to the most powerful and respected king of the world. Prince YunHo had found out and tried to kill them both. Fortunately, the child, Chen was saved by the queen’s maid and grew up in the slums. Prince YunHo tracked her down and killed her but couldn’t find Chen and that’s how he became an orphan and a beggar only to be found by the king and adopted years later.

It was Prince Junsu who found out about Chen who was rechristened as Jongdae and tried to alert King Jaejoong when he was murdered by Prince YunHo. Luckily Junsu’s letter survived. Jongdae shows the letter to Chanyeol and Sehun.
“No wonder he wanted you dead because he knew that you are the rightful heir to the throne.” claims Prince Chanyeol.
“I don’t want the throne. Not at the expense of losing my parents and family. Let Junmyeon have it.” says Prince Jongdae emotionally.

Chapter Text

Taemin’s men join force with Prince Jongdae. They bury Prince Minseok and Prince Heechul near the temple. Their group is bigger now. Prince Baekhyun, Prince Jongin and Prince Chanyeol show their support to Jongdae if he changes his mind and wishes to seize the throne. Captains Sehun and Yixing pledge their allegiance to Prince Jongdae.
“I am not going to be the king. I am going to stop YunHo and get the dagger back. He has to be stopped.” says Jongdae.

The group rides back to Gongju-si. They plan to steal back the dagger and warn Junmyeon of Prince YunHo. Captain Yixing plans to enter the sacred temple where the dagger is being guarded by YunHo’s trusted guard who was part of the covert warriors. A bloody and fierce fight breaks and both the guard and Captain Yixing get killed. Prince Jongin uses magic to retrieve his body with the dagger to their place of hiding.

Meanwhile Prince YunHo is informed about the missing dagger. He sends his men to find Jongdae and the dagger. When Taemin and his men try to escape they get caught. Prince Jongdae plans to use the secret passageways of the palace of Gongju-si and reach King Junmyeon to tell him about YunHo’s plans. Prince Baekhyun fears for Jongdae’s life.
“Jongdae, I don’t think you should take the risk. YunHo is much more powerful than we thought him to be.”
“I know you are worried for me but I must warn my brother and save him.” says Prince Jongdae. He then kisses Baekhyun.
“I am coming with you.” says Baekhyun.
“Okay. I am not going to stop you.” He kisses him again. Together Jongdae and Baekhyun run inside the palace passageway.

Prince YunHo’s guard finds the sandglass. He informs him. YunHo gets furious as he no longer has the dagger.

Prince Jongdae and Prince Baekhyun Wait inside King Junmyeon’s chambers. When King Junmyeon walks in at night, Jongdae reveals himself from his hiding place. Junmyeon tries to alert the guards but Jongdae holds him under knife point, so the guards retreat and close the doors of the chamber. It is only Junmyeon and Jongdae inside while Baekhyun is still hiding. Jongdae starts to talk and tell him everything but Junsu’s letter and his real identity.
“You are mad. Uncle YunHo will not try to kill his own brothers.” shouts Junmyeon.
“Who gave you the box Junmyeon? It was YunHo wasn’t it.” Jongdae still holds him at knife point. “You trusted him like I did. Gongju-si was not making weapons. YunHo lied to us.”
“Why would he do that? What can he gain?” asks Junmyeon.

Jongdae then tells him about the dagger and the sandglass. He also tells him that YunHo will use the dagger to travel back in time, kill King Jaejoong and become the king himself. Junmyeon doesn’t believe him. Jongdae to convince him kills himself using the dagger. His dying words to Junmyeon is to press the button at the hilt of the dagger to see for himself. While Junmyeon is crying over his dead body, YunHo arrives. He tries to remove Jongdae’s body but Junmyeon stops him. Junmyeon then presses the button of the dagger and travels back in time. He stops Jongdae before he kills himself. Junmyeon is now convinced. He hugs Jongdae.

Prince YunHo interrupts their union. He attacks them with his guards. King Junmyeon gets killed while Jongdae is wounded. Prince YunHo gets the dagger back and leaves Jongdae to be killed by his guard. Prince Baekhyun finally comes out of his hiding and kills the guard with his magic. They use the secret tunnels beneath the palace to get to the sandglass. They come across YunHo who has the dagger in his hands. YunHo and Jongdae fight over the dagger. Jongdae is stabbed by YunHo with the dagger. He then throws him down a cliff. Baekhyun pulls Jongdae up only to be pushed to his death by YunHo. YunHo and Jongdae fight. YunHo wins the fight and thrusts the dagger into the column of sandglass.

Jongdae goes behind him and grabs the hilt of the dagger and presses the button. When the sand is released from the sandglass, Jongdae is pulled inside the time wrap and he travels back in time to the moment he first retrieves the dagger from the sacred palace guard at the beginning when he fights the battle of invasion of the holy city of Gongju-si. Jongdae finds Junmyeon and Minseok alive. He immediately rushes to them and hugs them. He then tells them of YunHo’s treachery. Jongdae tells them that Gongju-si never tried to sell weapons to their enemies. It was all part of YunHo’s treachery. YunHo interrupts them and tries to prove that Jongdae has gone mad and is blabbering.

Jongdae looks into Junmyeon’s eyes and tells him, “Junmyeon, remember father told you that you weren’t ready to be the king yet. He told you a true king listens to the advice of his counsel but also listens to his own heart.”
“We were alone. Just the two of us. How did you know his exact words?” Junmyeon then realizes that Jongdae was speaking the truth. Seeing him getting convinced, YunHo furiously attacks Jongdae. They fight and Jongdae defeats him. Just when he is about to leave, YunHo attacks him again but Junmyeon kills him.

Later that evening:

Prince Junmyeon meets Prince Baekhyun in the royal court of Gongju-si. He apologizes for the invasion.
“Prince Baekhyun, I was misled to attack your city. Forgive me your highness. Allow me to make amends.”
“How do you propose to ensure peace?” asks Prince Baekhyun.
“I propose a marriage of alliance. My brother Prince Jongdae. To marry you, your highness.” says Prince Junmyeon. Prince Junmyeon then asks Prince Jongdae to walk to Prince Baekhyun and give him a gift. Prince Jongdae gives Baekhyun the sacred dagger as a gift for their engagement which Prince Baekhyun accepts. Prince Junmyeon takes it as a sign of acceptance of peace. Everyone cheers.

Prince Baekhyun whispers to Prince Jongdae, “Come with me Prince Jongdae.” When they reach the palace gardens, Prince Baekhyun asks Prince Jongdae how can he trust a man who invaded his city. Prince Jongdae smiles and kisses him. Prince Baekhyun remembers everything.
