His precious treasure

Summary:

Diego & Mateo snuggling after a long day.

Work Text:

“You’re warm.”

Diego’s soft voice breaks the long, comfortable silence between the two men. The room was rather cold— worse than average room temperature, which was pretty rare. Just one of those nights, unfortunately.

One of those nights where Mateo came to Diego’s place after a long day of work. He liked his job— he loved working with animals, but his long hours were tiresome. He gets tired of staying on his feet for hours at a time. Not to mention the amount of checking in he needs to do with Cecilia and to see if they have any new possible clients for the Pederson project.

“Am I?” Mateo asks in reply, his voice just barely above a breath. It was a very gentle whisper. Mateo and Diego were snuggled up together in Diego’s bed, their arms around eachother, with their legs intertwined. It was hard to distinguish where one started and the other ended. They were both wearing baggy hoodies, both of which belonged to Diego— and Diego’s hoodies were always a bit too big on Mateo’s shorter frame. He never complained though.

“Mmhm,” Diego mumbles. His face was practically dug into Mateo’s neck, directly in the crook. His warm breath tickled Mateo’s skin, making him smile. The day didn’t feel so long anymore when he was able to just relax with Diego during the night.

“You’re awfully tired, mi amor,” Mateo whispers once more. He leans forward to press a soft and delicate kiss to Diego’s head, his face brushing against Diego’s soft, curly hair. “Long day for you, too?”

Diego whispers something that Mateo can’t quite make out. It’s hard to make out anything when Diego’s entire face is snuggled into Mateo.  He only leans back slightly so he can speak, and one of his hands moves up to play with Mateo’s hair, which he softly hums in reply to.

“Conduje demasiado por un día…” Diego sleepily yawns after he finishes his sentence. Mateo can’t help but feel amused, and he giggles in reply, his eyes never leaving Diego’s face. The moonlight shining in from the window reflected beautifully off of him, like he was some sort of model even when he was half asleep.

“You still get car sick? I guessed you’d be over it by now.” Mateo replies, and then he presses a kiss to Diego’s cheek.

Diego lets out a small grumble, one that’s unintelligible. He nuzzles back into Mateo, this time learning against his chest, breathing in his beloved’s comforting scent.

“Te amo.” Mateo breathes out, closing his eyes and pressing another kiss to Diego’s head, holding him like some sort of precious treasure.

His precious treasure.
