Chapter Text
Gwen was given a room after being taken as a Hostage henchman for M.O.D.O.K, she had a hard time settling in at first but decided that she had to make the best of her current situation. For the first time she was resting like a baby in her new bed in M.O.D.O.K's robot hideout. (Although it's not very discreet and not hidden at all). Huddled under the covers, hugging a penguin plushie, Gwen felt such comfort in this moment, not quite asleep but not quite awake either the perfect level of consciousness, she enjoyed the silence and peace surrounding her. She could start worrying about the narrative trying to make her irrelevant later.
Knock Knock
Gwen grumbled at the noise interrupting the silence. "Whaat?" She asked, staying still in her bed in hopes of going back to sleep.
"It is time to get up. I made breakfast." The sound of Batroc's thick french accent was muffled behind the door.
Gwen got up with a sigh and put on her slippers keeping her pyjamas. There was no way she would put her costume on first thing in the morning and decided to keep her habit of eating breakfast in her night clothes.
She opened her door to find Batroc waiting next to it a cup of coffee in his hands. He also ate breakfast in pyjamas. He and Gwen started to walk towards the room where the would eat and have meetings in.
"Let me guess, you made French toasts?" Gwen asked with sly smile pointing towards Batroc.
"Ho haha such a funny joke." He replied sarcastically, he took a sip of his coffee while looking at Gwen, who was still expecting an answer about what he cooked. He sighed before answering. "Yes, I did in fact made French Toasts." He admitted with a smile.
Gwen raised her fist in victory jumping a little in her movement. She accelerated her pace towards her food with a big smile. Once arrived Gwen took 3 piece of French Toasts and made herself a hot chocolate. Batroc sat next to her and poured himself another cup of coffee. Gwen was eating these toasts like they were the best thing ever cooked. Batroc was glad she liked it.
"My mom used to make this stuff every once in a while" She paused, taking another bite. "T'was good."
"Really? Better zen mine?" He asked, curious. Gwen spoke so little of herself and especially her family he wanted to know more but he also did not to pry too much and possibly upset her.
"..." She marked a silence "I'd say yours are better." Gwen concluded facing him with a huge smile.
"You two are early..." Mega Tony entered, yawning.
"Hello!!" Gwen greeted him cheerfully "Batroc made French Toasts! They are delicious!" She said as she pushed the plate toward her companion in the lab coat.Tony took the plate before looking at the duo. "What is on the schedule today?." He asked taking a bite in his toast.
"Nothing for now" Batroc said while leaning back in his chair.
Gwen got up from her chair."Wouhou! Finally some real free time!" She stretched a bit.
"Non Gwen, You still need to train."
"What? Noo, Batroc please, I can go one day without training." Gwen argued, pouting a little. "Plus I wanted to go see Ronnie and just take my motorcycle for a ride. Have fun."
Mega Tony looked up towards Gwen. "You have a motorcycle?"
"Wha- Yes I just didn't use it in a while. "
It was Batroc's turn to get up from his seat. "Fine you can go but if i call you it will be for an assignement so you will pick up. Got it?"
"Yes Monsieur!" Gwen made a military salute and flashed a huge smile to Batroc.
He laughed a bit. "You have a terrible accent."
"Like yours is any better." She joked while leaving the room.
-----
Gwen got ready pretty quickly, she was really exited to get out and enjoy a day for her. She might want to be a hero and enjoy all her adventures she also enjoy a lot her time as a civilian. Probably because now she can die at any given moment during an assignement, that she came to enjoy this semblance of normalcy a little more then back in her dimension.
Her outfit was pretty simple, jean shorts, a white t-shirt with four little logos on her chest, a pink hoodie she kept open, a black cap and one of her many animal bags. Today she decided to take the octopus one and let the shark at the foot of her bed. She took a quick look at herself in the mirror and nodded to herself.
"I look darn cute." She told herself while putting two pistol in her bag with her costume and some random stuff in cs she would need anything.
Then she left her room and bumped into Sarah, AKA the terrible Eye, although she wasn't wearing her mask. "Excuse me Gwen I wasn't looking where i was going. Are you going somewhere?" She asked pointing towards Gwen's bag.
"Ho, Yeah I need some fresh air. Why, do you need anything?" Gwen asked as she followed Sarah towards the meeting room. Batroc and Mega Tony had not moved much but where now playing chess and Batroc was visibly loosing, his face gave away his frustration while his lack of pieces gave away his lack of mastery in the game.
"Well yes if you could find me more crystals."
"Crystals? But you don't need this kind of things to use magic or anything so why? I'm curious?"
"My collection, I wanted to go find some more but if you're going out could you do it?"
"Of course! Just give me the address of the shop and I'll go."
After doing so the two girls went over the boys still focused on their chess match. Gwen looked at the board and then at Batroc. He raised his eyes to look at her silently asking what she would do.
"You're toast, there is no way you are winning. You don't have enough pieces to win this one." Gwen said calmly.
"I will not admit défaite." He said looking at the board a little longer letting the room fall silent for a couple more minutes before sighting. "Fine... You win Tony." They shook hands and Tony even proposed a rematch. Knowing full well he would win this one too. Batroc refused. One defeat was enough for the day. Sarah on the other hand decided to give it a shot and play a game against Tony.
"Well, I'm going, You'll tell me who won when i get back." She added while waving goodbye to Batroc.
"Do not get into problems." Batroc warned.
"Naaah, you know me I avoid trouble!" she laughed and left.
----
Gwen was now riding her bike through the city, blasting music into her ears. She though about going to pick Sarah's crystals first and then go see Ronnie. Mainly because if she did the opposite she would forget to actually go buy the crystals.
So here she was speeding towards her destination not really paying any mind to anything. Until she heard sirens.
"Shit." she muttered under her breath as she pulled over.
the police car parked behind her and tall black man in uniform got out of the car while a smaller person stayed in the car. He got on her level and gestured for her to take off her helmet.
"I assume you know why I stopped you?" He asked in an authoritative tone. It reminded her of her dad.
Gwen took off her helmet and passed a hand through her hair. "Yes... I'm sorry sir. I- Well I guess i was too much focused on my music and all. It won't happen again I promise!" she looked at his badge for a minute, the name was familiar, Jefferson, Not a unique name she decided not to mind it.
"Are you on your way to school?" He asked more nicely.
"Huh...Nope. I stopped going." She admitted a little embarrassed. And again a little more seeing his face drop a little. "I'm running errands for my friend." She added quickly. "Please I'll be careful can you just give a warning or something like that?"
The cop seemed hesitant before looking back towards his car then his watch. "Yeah. I'm gonna do that I'm running late. Don't let me catch you again."
Gwen beamed at him and smiled widely. "Thank you Sir, thank you!"
He waved her off and let her go. That was a close one she was barely out of the base that trouble was trying to find her. Batroc would not have been happy to have to go pick her up from jail.
She went to pick the crystals and decided to go buy what she would need to make bracelets. Then she got into Ronnie's Shop.
"Hellow, hellow! It is I!" She declared walking towards the woman. "How are you? What's new?" she asked, exited.
"Good morning to you too Gwen. Ronnie has no news, no new clients either."She said, focused on her sewing.
"Ho too bad... you want me to help in some way? You could use me for advertising. "
"Honey, I don't think a lot of people will want to work with me if they new I made the costume of the pink slayer."
"That name is sooo dramatic. I didn't even do anything that bad compared to other vigilantes or villains. " She complained pointing towards outside the shop in a general manner. "At least I don't have JJJ complaining about me. That would be terrible advertisement."
"Huhuh..." Ronnie nodded still focused on her task.
Gwen deadpanned ."You're not listening to me..."
"I am Gwen. I'm just busy."
"Ho yeah right sorry. Well anyway i just wanted to say hello so now I'll get going. See ya!" Gwen headed for the door and left. She stopped near her bike and sat on it to just look around the empty street. Then she looked up towards the rooftops hoping to get a glimpse at a passing spiderman, for all the time she had been here she still did not see any of them, not Miles nor Peter. Maybe or more probably because she was also busy doing her assignements on her own but still she was disappointed to not have seen them swigging around. It must be impressive to see. Ho, how she want to be looked at with such admiration too. Her line of though was cut short by her ringtone. She read the name "Batracien" a little play on word for Batroc
"Yellow?" She answered cheerfully.
"Can you get back you and I have a job tonight."
"What about the others?"
"This job does not suit their talents."
"Alright I'll be there." She said before hanging up and putting her helmet on. She went back towards M.O.D.O.K's base speeding through the city. Luckily the police officer from this morning did not caught her a second time.
---
Once there she was greeted with a very well dressed Batroc and stopped dead in her track. "Sorry... What are wearing?" she asked taking off her helmet with a confused face.
"Zis, is a costume. Ze kind of clothes you wear on formal occazions."
"Okayyyy, why?"
"You and I are going to collect information at a very fancy gala."
"Why can't the other come then?"
"Tony is too reserved to get information out of anybody and Sarah...talks about difficult subjects and is not very much discreet with her mask."
"Ho...Yeah makes sense. But... I dont have any fancy clothes. Do you have a spare tux?"
"I do but you are not wearing zat. I asked Sarah if she had anything and also took Ze liberty of buying one or two dresses too. So you just have to pick."
"Oh, Thank you George." Gwen said before going to her room to get ready. She decided to land on a black dress. It was long and fitted, the neckline came down in a V shape and the back was mostly covered. It was simple but she liked it. Then she got to work and put on makeup and did her hair into a simple up-do. Or more down do since she did it low enough as to capture all of her hair, at th exception of her bangs and smaller strand of hair in the front. She put on her heels and got out of her room after taking a coat. "I'm ready. Who do we want info on by the way?" She asked Batroc who leaned on the wall beside her room to wait for her.
"Huh...I'll tell you when we get Zere." He marked a pause as they headed towards the exist. "You look great kid."
"Thanks you don't look so bad yourself. " She said smiling nicely. The walked together towards this gala. Batroc Telling Gwen how to behave, what she could say and couldn't, what she could do and couldn't, how she was going to love the food as well as the drinks. He obviously knew his fare share about this kind of events so she listened seriously. Although now, she was looking forward to taste the food.
Chapter 2
Notes:
Hello, I am back with a new chapter, I was hopping to write more quickly but I kind of forgot and also I tried to study. Emphasis en try.
Anyways, The Gala. Not that much action. I really like Gwen and Batroc as a duo, they clearly care for each other but don't communicate the rest for now. especially on Gwen's part who does not say much about herself. Also thanks for my one Kudo X) at least one person liked this enough to leave one. I was happy to see it especially since Gwen is not that present on Ao3 and when she is itt's as a background or secondary character I did not though I would have many people reading my work. Anyways I hope You enjoy this chaotic Chapter.
(Again if there are mistakes in my English I apologise)
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
They arrived at the place holding the gala. It was one of those Palace, drowning in luxury, from the carpet to the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Gwen was absolutely taken away by the place, the people too. Everyone in the room wore the prettiest and fanciest outfits. Gwen for a minute, though this is what being on a red carpet must feel like because everyone here was so elegant.
She felt a hand on her shoulder and looked up to see Batroc, standing near her.
"We need to find out who are Wilson Fisk's associates." He said in a hushed tone as Gwen's blood ran cold.
Wilson Fisk, Kingpin, the guy she saw decapitate another guy with a car door on TV. That Wilson Fisk.
Batroc must've seen her panic because he seemed to panic a little himself.
"Gwen are you okay? It's going to be easy don't worry. I am here." He saw a waiter arrive near them and took two glasses of Champagne off of it. He gave one to Gwen and looked at her with assurance. "Don't tell me what you know, you just follow my lead alright? I am a pro." He smiled and spoke in a reassuring way.
Gwen took a deep breath "You're right. I'm with a pro." She smiled at him. They clinked their glasses together. "You know I legally can't drink right?" Gwen joked pointing her drink.
"I am French, to me you can. Plus, I am ze adult responsible for you, so no-one here will say anyting if I allow you to have one or two drinks." He countered happily.
Gwen scoffed before taking a sip. She liked it, a lot, this fancy champagne was better then the ones she tasted around Christmas or birthdays. Although she never fancied alcohol all that much. Getting wasted was never something she found fun and when her friends started to go away to college and she got, stuck, she stopped hanging out anyway.
"I see zis is not your first time drinking." Batroc pointed out in a teasing tone. Gwen was pretty sure this was to get her to relax a little more.
"I said this wasn't legal not that I never did it." She replied with a smirk. "I just don't particularly love it any more then I love sodas."
Batroc nodded silently as he started to watch around the room. Gwen, not wanting to stare blankly at her ally started to do the same. She did not see anyone with a design flashy enough to hint at a relevant character being present. But she also realized that people looked different then they did in comics or TV. Batroc's accent is thicker than she though, and most of the people who are relevant are actually just normal looking. No better presence or charisma they just looked like normal people, making recognizing people in crowds REALLY difficult. Although...when they wear their costume it's really blatant. It's like when everybody thinks they could recognize Clark Kent as Superman but in fact wouldn't.
"I don't see anyone worth noting. Probably a bunch of extras." Gwen stated before taking another sip of her drink.
"We blend in for a while, zen when Fisk is busy with his guests we go find his files." Batroc affirmed seriously as he walked towards a group of people.
Gwen followed him hurriedly, joining this group of obviously very wealthy people.
"Bonsoir! Messieurs, Mesdames. Je m'appel Jean, enchanté." Batroc greeted, charmingly. So much so that apparently, the entire group already found him delightful.
"Good Evening." Gwen greeted in a less flamboyant way. But, the ladies in the group expressed how cute Gwen was.
"Ah, Oui. My daughter, Ellen, accompanies me when her mother is too busy." He said, to which, Gwen only smiled in her most adorable way. It apparently worked wonders. It set off discussions about the kids of the couples present in the group. Batroc was apparently a natural at this kind of discussions whilst Gwen felt like a fish out of the water. Probably because she had nothing in common with grown adults.
She decided to go see the buffet and taste the food. Apparently she was not the only teenager/young adult escaping parental discussions, there was one group of them at the end of the table and a young man alone on the other end of it. She set her drink down and took a couple of little strawberry cakes to put on a plate. As she turned around she noticed the young man stepped near her, visibly wanting to ask something.
He was wearing a tux, although he untied his tie and opened his shirt a little so it would not stay against his neck. His vest was also open, he looked a little out of place surrounded by all these well dressed people.
He had black skin, his hair was in long braids who were attached in an up-do. He looked a little sly, he arbored a smirk and walked with all the confidence in the world and stopped right in front of her.
"Can I help you?" Gwen voiced, with an obvious annoyance in her tone.
"Yeah, I was wondering if you could lend me your glass of champagne." He asked, and Gwen was left blinking incredulously at him.
"There is a waiter right there..." She pointed towards a poor young guy trying his best to hold the tray up-right whilst walking. It made her smile a little.
"I can't, If my boss sees me he is not gonna like it. My supervisor either. But it's not like I'll have a lot to do tonight."
"Sorry, what? Your boss?" She sputtered, surprised.
"Mister Fisk. I'm here as security for the event."
oh. Oh. OH Fuck! Here she was talking with a member of security. Great...
"Huh. Sure. Finish it. I don't like drinking much."She said handing him her glass. "So, Where is mister Fisk? I heard he's huge and scary." Gwen questioned as innocently as she could.
The young man laughed before downing the rest of her drink in a single sip. "He is big. But scary, no, he just knows what his objectives are. I guess that must be scary for those who have none. He's probably in his office he'll be there to greet you all shortly."
"Cool cool cool." Gwen muttered before talking more confidently. "I'm, Gwen by the way...Shit" Shit. She gave the wrong name. She was so focused on trying to act normal she acted Too normal.
"I'm Hobie, nice to meet you." He smiled not noting her strange behavior.
Oh good god... she though. This was not her night. She needed to steal info from Fisk and she was sharing niceties with Hobart Brown. She damn well knew there was spider-punk in this universe. But he could be the prowler.
Gwen frowned before eating one of her little strawberry cake and she must have made a face because Hobie laughed at her reaction.
"You've never went to this kind of event huh?" He asked amused.
"Never but my..Dad did an he told me the food was super duper good and wow I want this cake for the rest of my life." Gwen expressed in her very energetic and habitual manner.
"Good luck finding the cooks that made these."
"Hey, huh... Aren't you...young to be security?" Gwen asked, wondering.
"I'm just that good. Also under supervision. See it as I'm still learning the ropes. Technically cause I am already really good."
"Don't choke on your ego." Gwen joked nicely.
A round of applause and cheers was heard further in the room and the young duo looked towards it. Fisk descending the steps into the room to greet all of his guests, accompanied by a very elegant and pretty woman, she had brown hair and a slim figure contrasting with Fisk's, He was all smiles and seemed very bliss with her around his arm. Gwen met Batroc's line of sight and he gestured to her to get moving.
"Well I... don't want to distract you from your work. It was nice talking to you. I'm sure we'll meet again." She said as she gave him her plate with one cake left, before leaving towards Batroc. "Holy fuck... The cakes were delicious." She added whilst they started walking.
"I told you. Who was that you talked to?" He asked in a teasing tone.
"Security guy. He could be a problem, he's not an extra."
They walked out of the building, Batroc taking out a cigarette for a legitimate excuse to go around the building. Gwen thought it was unnecessary but Batroc always wants be careful. When one was in sight Batroc leaped towards a high window before dropping a rope for Gwen to climb. She was glad she built muscle from her time here. Climbing a rope was not that hard now. She passed through the open window and took the rope with her. It would be suspicious to have a rope sticking out of a window.
"So, where is his office?" Gwen asked taking off her heels and putting her converses on.
"I am pretty sure it's zis floor. But exactly where, I'm not sure"
Gwen got up and they started looking. Well Batroc did. Gwen stared at the corridors.
"If I were a vilain where would my office with all my vilain stuff be?" She asked herself looking at the floor map. "Hey! Bat! Look at the end of the big big hallway it has to be here."
"Wha-Why?"
"Don't you watch heist movies? The big and long hallway is a sign the objective is at the end of it. So you can have really long shots of the characters walking in a cool way."
Batroc, dumbfounded, sighted very heavily whilst Gwen went to test her theory. She ran down that, really long hallway and waited by the door at the very end of it. When Batroc was by her side she opened the door to Wilson's Fisk office. Gwen came in very proud of herself, sat in the big and fancy chair behind the desk.
"You can say it."
"Say what?"
"You're impressed by my knowledge." Gwen jested, flashing him a wide and childish smile.
"Alright sure... I am very impressed young lady."
"Oh my thank you." She said spinning in the chair with a little giggle.
Batroc came behind the desk and stopped the chair from spinning further. "Focus." He looked around the desk for files whilst Gwen opened drawers to try and find what they where looking for.
"Does a ledger help? I mean he has to pay his associates right?"
"Yes, perfect, give here."
Gwen stood in silence for a moment. "I don't have it. I just said that so I know what to look for."
Batroc stared at her and she stared back in silence. Awkward moment.
"Anyways!" Gwen went over to check the cupboards. Batroc let out a swear word she did not understand.
She spent a while checking those cupboards, why have so many? She turned towards the nearest bookshelf and looked thoroughly.
"Ha-HA!" She heard Batroc exclaim branding a ledger in hand.
"Bravo." Gwen said applauding sarcasticly.
Batroc did not fool around and ripped all the latest pages in the book. "Alright, we need to go now." He said putting them in his breast pocket.
"Yea-"
They both froze as the door of the office opened aggressively and very pissed off Prowler came in. Gwen and Batroc backed up in different directions. Gwen looked at the Prowler and decided to throw the first thing near her which was some bronze statue. She hit him in the arm and her and Batroc bolted out of the room.
"Go! Go!" The Frenchman encouraged Gwen who was running a little behind.
"I am!"
She could hear the sound of heavy boots running closely behind her. Only adding to her stress. And it got worse, has she was nearing the window to jump with Batroc the Prowler caught her arm with his big gloves (claws?) and yanked her back. Gwen purposefully fell dead on the floor like a dead weight . Like everyone his first reflex was to let go to not be brought down with her. She took the opportunity to kick him really hard in the sheen and then dick. Yeah, there is no playing fair when the narrative is out to get you.
Although she did let out a "Sorry, man."
He let out a cry that was lower then expected and got down on the ground holding his crotch. Was Hobie wearing a voice modifier under that mask? She asked herself.
"Gwen! Go!"
Batroc voice got her to her feet and she did just that. She held onto him as he leaped onto a near rooftop. Then another, then another until they were farther enough.
Gwen sat on the ground panting from the amount of stress mainly.
"Let's go home." Batroc crouched down beside her looking over her arm that was grabbed. She was mostly fine. "Zis will leave a blue."
"A-? A Blue? What the hell are you talking about?"
"Raaah Non! Un..Un" he snapped his fingers trying to remember the word. "A Bruise!"
"Hoooo! Wait! A bruise is... A blue in french? Like the color? "
"Yes. Un bleu, because well, they are blue."
They got up and dusted themselves.
"This one will be purple I think." Gwen laughed and Batroc smiled.
"Nice throw back there. And kicking too!"
"I learned from the best!"
They got down in the streets and walked towards the base. trying to stay alert to not being followed.
"Should we bring food home?" Gwen asked pointing to a pizzeria.
"I have a better idea. If we ask the others now, then when we get home we will have warm pizzas without having to do anything."
"You are a evil genius mister." Gwen said picking out her phone to text the "Best Henchmens M.O.D.O.K Ever Had " group chat. Yes you guessed it Gwen had the idea and picked the name.
"We need a better Group name." Batroc said looking over her shoulder.
"Let's talk about it with the others when we get Home."
He nodded and they walked Home talking about anything they had interest in and got home to Mega Tony setting the hot pizzas on the table. They all ate together and discussed possible new name for their group chat. The evening went so well Gwen forgot all about almost dying by the hands of a guy she shared her drink with. Batroc sent what they collected and got back to eat.
Notes:
By the way For Hobie's design I looked at his concept Art for Across the Spiderverse. I landed on the one where he has... Well long dreads and tons of piercings. Wich is a design that is really cool. I hesitated with the one where he has heterocromia but decided not to.
I did not dwell on Fisk for now maily because I was not sure where to put it but i will. (I think).
I want to say it loud and clear Gwen will not have a love interest. First because I suck at romance and second cause she is Aro- Ace, But maily cause that is not in my plans. I love reading romance, writting them is... a whole other story. Also If you guys have ideas of Group chat names for M.O.D.O.K's team I could use the ideas. I really suck at naming group chats.
See you for the next chapter, hope you like it so far.

Chapter Text
Gwen was insanely bored. Since the heist, Batroc and her stayed inside to lay low. She trained, ate as much snacks she could and watched enough tv, she read every book she had, and was now pacing in front of the floor to ceiling window. Batroc and Mega Tony were playing another game of chess before going to sleep and Gwen really wanted to go out.
She looked around then yawned, stretched and started walking towards the exit of the room.
"Good night guys! Try to not humiliate him too much Tony." Gwen said, waving at them whilst leaving the room. She could hear Tony laugh a bit as well as she heard Batroc scoff.
Good. They were too taken by their game, Sarah was in her room resting and M.O.D.O.K was probably doing evil guy stuff on his own, so she could leave without anyone noticing and could spend some great time in the city on her own.
she entered her room to take off her pj's and put on a pair of grey cargo pants, a black tank top, a dark grey hoodie on top of it and also put on her leather jacket.
"Does Teddy miss his jacket back home? Maybe since I took it with me, it's like it never existed too." She asked herself looking at her reflection. meeting her own gaze a wave of bitterness washed over her. Did her brother miss her too? Was he conscious a part of his family was missing? That he missed the presence of a sibling? She'll never have an answer. Maybe, if she meets Doctor strange again she could ask him in more details how the spell worked. Maybe even show her, her family without her in it.
Gwen let out a heavy sigh before putting her shoes on. She left the base without seeing anyone and took off with her motorcycle. Yes, she needed to get her mind on something. Stop worrying about if she was missed. She needed something to do, something fun.
She stopped near a general store and got an idea. she entered the shop and got some spray-paint. The old man ringing her items gave her knowing look, almost accusatory.
"Don't worry I'm not gonna tag your building." Gwen said in a joking tone, accompanied by an awkward little laugh. The man did smile a bit and she went to her bike whilst putting the spray-cans in her back-pack.
She took off on her bike again. Wondering what she could tag and where. She did not want to tag above someone's work. After driving for a while the young woman decided to park her bike and try to find a place on foot. She looked up and saw big publicity sign on top an apartment's roof.
"Perfect!" She whispered to herself before jumping towards the fire escape using a trash-bin to reach it. She caught onto the railing and got on the fire escape huffing a little.
She climbed up towards the roof and stopped in front of the indecently too big publicity sign. Advertising J. Jonah Jameson's new radio show "Just the facts!" which probably resolved around how heroes like spiderman are menaces. Gwen wondered if he ever talked about the "Pink Ghost", the name some articles gave her, it was really cool and it made her really happy to see the first time it was used. She was less a fan of the "Ghost-Face no pants killer" it was too long and not as catchy as the other aliases she was given. Although she will admit it's funny. Thinking about the recent aliases given to her she got an idea.
She dropped her helmet and gloves on the ground and climbed on the sign with her spray paint. She started her endeavor and quickly took off Teddy's jacket as well as her hoodie, she was moving too much and was getting hot, also she did not want paint on her brother's jacket or her hoodie.
She focused again on her work enjoying the activity accompanied by the sound of the city. She heard a family laughing in one of the apartment's beneath her, she saw an old couple walking down the street across from her, a group of teenagers waved at her before leaving after a while.
Gwen continued spaying and it took shape nicely. She decided to take a break and went to a hot-dog vendor down the street before going back to her roof to eat. She sat on the sign, letting her legs dangle over the edge and she ate whilst looking u at the stars and bigger buildings nearby. This city never slept and Gwen enjoyed it a lot in this instant. She took her time eating before going back to her work. It took her a while to finish but she did. She climbed down from the sign and looked proudly at it.
"The Unbelievable Gwenpool" Was what she wrote. After all this is how most of the people she met called her ,Gwenpool , the media gave her aliases because no one knew what she called herself.
She heard something land behind her and was ready to see a fat pigeon stare at the crumbs of her meal, as she turned around she quickly realized it was, in fact, not a fat pigeon.
More like a fat spider. Human sized spider.
Gwen stared before shaking her head and regaining her calm. "Holy shit!" Yeah, so calm. Franticly, calm.
The younger spider stared at her before raising his head to look at the sign. "You know you can't do that?" He asked, although it seemed he was not going to reprimand her.
"Like you never did that." Gwen replied crossing her arms. "What? Are you gonna give me a ticket?"
He scoffed walking closer. "No, I'm not a cop. For a second I just though you were gonna jump from the roof? That's why I came."
Gwen looked at him with wide eyes "Ho... Well, No?" She added before putting all her cans and trash together to throw later.
"No?" He mimicked her tone.
"Yeah, No." She said in a definitive tone. He seemed to relax a bit.
"Cool then." He stared at the sign again, the lenses of his costume seemingly getting smaller, like a little frown. "You... Huh? Gwenpool? Like Deadpool? Is this a nickname of yours?"
"Huh...Yea-" Gwen cut herself when she saw a silhouette move on the rooftop behind Miles. This made him turn too but he saw nothing. Gwen was left frowning at what she saw. "Yeah and no. I am in no way related to Deadpool by the way. Some people though that before." She though about Ronnie who made her a costume modeled after his because of her name. "My full name is Gwen Poole. It gets people confused."
The lenses of his mask got all big in a cartoonish way. Like her recognized something.
"What is it?" She questioned tilting her head.
"Ha huh, nothing. Nice to meet you Gwen." He let out his hand to shake and she took it with a smile.
"Nice to meet you too Miles." She replied.
"..."
"..." Fuck...
They stared at one another and he was not letting go of her hand at all. Gwen let out a nervous laugh while looking around.
"How do you know who I am?" He said in an intimidating voice whilst tightening the hold on her hand.
"HuH... Well that...That's my power I know things about a lot of heroes and bad guys. Their identity, powers, family, tons of stuff!" Gwen announced shrinking her head toward her shoulders.
He stayed silent for a while, and she looked back at him. "You will not tell anyone? Right?" He blurted.
"Of course not! It's not the way things are supposed to go anyway. It would be like spoiling a show to a good friend, that would be cruel."
He relaxed and let go of her hand. Gwen jumped a few feet away holding her hand, cursing. "Shit man, aren't you supposed to hold your strength?"
"I did?"
"You did? My hand's nervous system would like to disagree." She deadpanned. Showing her already bruising hand.
"I'm sorry! You scared me! I can't have random people knowing my identity! "
"Well...I'm trying to be a hero too. So, if you know who I am we're even, no?" Gwen asked nicely.
"Trying to be a hero?"
"Yeah! Wait." She got her shark backpack and pulled out her mask. "Here."
"You-" He cut himself, stunned. "You're a mercenary!?"
"Well, I don't want to be!" Gwen replied, her voice getting louder. "I just need to deal with the situation I got myself in. Then, I will help people, truly."
"What is the, situation?" Miles asked, suspicious but also curious.
"M.O.D.O.K kinda took me and three other people hostage to be his henchmen. If we don't go his way he reduces us to dust. Literally, I saw him do it."
The young spiderman just looked at her silence, trying to see if she was lying. He sighted and looked around. "Well I guess we are even now. I believe you. If you need any help...huh-" he looked around before taking one of her pen beside her jacket, who was still laying on the ground. "Give me your arm." He gestured for her to do so and she did. "If you need help, or advice on being a hero, I might be new to the job but I think I could help you get started." He said as he wrote his number on her forearm.
Gwen lit up in a jovial expression. "Thanks! That's super nice. I really appreciate it."
"You're welcome. If you want to do good things I can but only encourage you to do it." He looked again at the sign. "So, I need to go, Nice meeting you and call if needed."
They waved each other off and he left swinging away. Well, that was one thing off of her bucket list. She met Miles Morales. And he offered help with becoming a hero. What a great night. Gwen did not regret to sneak out at all.
She left shortly after too, went home without issue and fell asleep the minute she fell on her bed.
Notes:
This is shorter chapter and I'm not very proud of it. It feels like the inspiration left my body. But I want to keep going so I can't stay stuck on this for months.
I remembered the cover for one of Gwen's comic was Miles carrying Gwen after she tagged an Ad sign. It's what mainly inspired me for this chapter which is a little filer. Also fun fact I rewatched The Batman with Pattinson and his outfit in the beginning(in the crowd during Halloween) is the one I pictured for Gwen in this chapter.
Also now Gwen and Miles met on better terms then they did in the comics. (It might get worse later)See you next chapter. Take care.
Chapter 4
Summary:
The day after Gwen sneaks off, Batroc wakes her up.
Notes:
I am so sorry, this chapter is very short. My Inspiration was taken by my Red Dead Fic. I will not abandon this one but I think about posting every two weeks or at least once a month.
By the way If some of you are intrested in red dead look at my other fic, it's Arthur adopting a reckless teenage girl.(The first chapter is messy tho)Anyways, I hope you will still enjoy this short chapter.
See you soon.
Chapter Text
Gwen was awoken by a slow shake of the shoulder and then by the sun blinding her. Batroc had decided to wake her up in a unhabitual way. She sat up on her bed, yawning.
"What's up? Why are you not waking me up by nocking?" She asked staring at him with her still tired eyes.
"I tried, you didn't hear. Will you tell me where you went yesterday night?" He demanded crossing his arms.
"Whaaat? I never went anyw-"
"Your still wearing your clothes. Unless you decided that sleeping with normal clothes, a leather jacket, socks and shoes was now confortable for you?" He stared at her before coming closer and taking her right hand. "If I recall correctly, your hands were clean last night, not covered in pink and white paint."
Gwen bowed her head and looked at their foot. He was disappointed, she could see that. What could she even say do defend herself? She had no intentions of saying that she just wanted to distract her mind on her own. That she came to the realization that she is truly alone in this universe? No true ties nor family, that she missed the most important person she had in her life.
"I- Well you know... To be honest I-" She stuttered unable to form a sentence that could express how she felt.
Batroc let go of her wrist, probably to leave the room, she thought. Instead he sat right next to her resting one hand on her shoulder. "It is okay, take your time." He sat there waiting patiently for her to form a thought.
Gwen expired aiming to calm her train of thoughts. "I just, needed to get out. Staying stuck inside is not usually a problem for me, but yesterday I needed fresh air." she finally said. If she started to talk about her family she knew she'd cry. Even if Batroc and her were close they weren't close enough for this kind of talk. What would he even say? He doesn't fully believe she comes from said other universe. He just thinks she's crazy like everyone else.
"It is not just about Ze air, iz it?" He asked moving the hair out of her face. It reminded her of her mom, she too would've done that.
"No, It's.. not just that." She stated, grimacing whilst trying not to cry.
Batroc understanding she did not want to elaborate just opened his arms to silently offer a hug. Gwen went for it without second thought. He squeezed her tight against him in a very comfortable and recomforting hug. The pressure from the said hug helped Gwen regain her calm.
"Let's go eat something. Eating, is the remedy you need right now." He patted her back and backed away.
Gwen got up nodding, she took a few deep breaths and stood straight. "Thank you. Really." She offered him a smile like every time and got out of the room with her jovial and usual attitude.
Batroc stayed there, in her room for a moment, looking at the weapons littering the floor, the clothes here and there, merch of multiple heroes. He did not get what she was upset about, it had to be regarding her family but what? She talks about them in the past tense so they had to be dead, either to her or just literally. He got up from the bed to follow after her. She did put on a strong face, she greeted Tony and Sarah in her usual happy tone as if she wasn't on the verge of crying two minutes before. It got him worried. The fact she did not want to explain anything but also that she seemingly looked fine talking to the other. For how long did she hide how she felt?. For how long had he been ignorant to her now obvious anguish? He wondered and the more he did the more he felt guilty.
They all settled to eat breakfast, Gwen was taken in a discussion with Sarah, they giggled and talked about spending time together. Tony was taken by notes next to his plate. He did say once he wanted to work on new stuff. Batroc was left staring into the void, wondering how he could help Gwen, take her mind off it? No, it would only push back the problem for later, it would not end well. He could question her seriously? But she would only deflect with cute smiles and jokes. Does she want his help anyway? She ran off the night before without a word. Maybe, she does not trust him that much, nor does she appreciate him that much. Theses thoughts made him sad. Truly sad and disappointed, more in himself then her.
Gwen, once she finished eating, took out her phone to put in Miles's number in it.
She looked towards Batroc that since he woke her up looked at her like a hurt puppy. She hoped he wasn't too mad at her for sneaking off. She knew he got it to some degree but it did not mean he fully understood. She was used to that, being never fully understood, but in this universe she hoped it would've been different. Seems like there will always be something in between her and others. Still she hoped one day it will change. After all she was in a universe were everything was possible. In a universe with people with spider-powers or reality bending ones trying to be understood should not be that hard right?
Chapter 5
Summary:
We time skip after the fight with M.O.D.O.K. Gwen and Batroc go on a easy mission and get into some trouble.
Notes:
Hey, look who's back! I swear I did not plan on leaving for a month, I was so focused on my red dead fic I kind of procrastinated on this one.
So, dear readers you have my most sincere apologies. I'll try to update At least once a month! Promise.I am also planning on soon moving towards the West coast Avengers part of Gwen's story. I think writing some more chapters about her and the M.O.D.O.K team before that tho. I spent a lot of time thinking about the changes I could include in Quentin and Gwen relationship. I don't want to deny their affection for one another and will make their relationship platonic. Some kind of platonic couple/partnership. Although I still need to think about it.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
It had been an...eventful week to say the least. M.O.D.O.K. tried to kill her after finding her informations, which appeared when Doctor strange anchored her in this universe, he did not like it, for dumb reasons too, like, he's the one who told her to get an identity and a bank account, and when she does he want to kill her? Sounds like he wanted an excuse not to pay her. After an epic battle and thanks to Cecil M.O.D.O.K. was now orbiting the earth, a true victory.
They gathered in the main room to celebrate their new found freedom. Gwen especially, she was overjoyed that Cecil was back. He was back, here. Not just a skull to which she would talk to, with silence as her only answer. He was present, answering, conscious, living, in a way.
"I cannot wait to get out of zis ridiculously shaped base." Batroc said whilst serving Champagne to everyone.
"Wait, you're leaving us?" Mega Tony asked a little taken aback.
"What? No! But I have my own Hideouts, we do not need to stay here."
"It would be more safe to leave the premises yes." Sarah added wisely. "M.O.D.O.K could blow it up, or just take control of it when he comes back. We should not depend on the technology of our now enemy."
"Batroc, you want all of us to share your Hideout?" Gwen asked as she took a flute of champagne. "Because I doubt you would have enough room to house all of us."
"I have a Very big apartment, Gwen. Money iz not an issue for me. It's a whole floor I think it will be plenty of space." He said calmly with a smile.
"I'm In!" Gwen said, raising her glass.
Sarah soon followed suit then Tony and finally Batroc. They then clinked their glasses.
"We move tomorrow then!" Gwen said with excitement.
"The sooner, the better." Tony added.
Sarah then gasped drawing everybody's attention on her. "Oh my, I should start to gather all my things now to be ready. "
"Shit you're right, I too, have a lot of things." Gwen expressed.
Both Girls looked at each other and came to a silent agreement that will help one another to gather their things. They got up finished their drinks and left. Leaving Batroc and Tony alone.
"Well..."
"You want a rematch don't you?" Tony said making space for the chess board.
"Yes.." The french man admitted.
----
The night passed, Batroc lost, the girls put all their things to be transported easily and were even helped by Cecil who guided them with advice since he could not carry anything. Sarah and Gwen took the opportunity to also go through their closets and get rid of clothes they no longer wore, they also exchanged some clothing.
They woke up in Sarah's room as Tony knocked on the open door.
"George told me to go get you." He explained nicely.
"We'll be right here." Sarah said whilst Gwen got up.
"I think we've been very efficient, everything is ready to go now." Gwen pointed out.
Sarah agreed before they both went in the main room to join George and Tony. They were already gathering the boxes full of items.
"Need help? Do we bring our stuff here?" Gwen asked.
"Huh No," Batroc dropped box before stretching a little "Gwen I'm going to ask you to take ze little boxes and bring them at zis address. Sarah you go with her, you will unpack and Gwen will do the transport of the little boxes whilst me and Tony take care of ze bigger ones." He said before throwing the keys in Gwen's direction.
Gwen managed to catch them and frowned a bit. "You want me to take the small boxes, on my motorcycle?"
"Yes, Or walk, we're gonna use zhe car."
"You mean, my police car?"
Batroc nodded with a big smile. "Exactly, c'mon ze sooner we start ze sooner we'll be finished."
"Argh... Fine. Let's go Sarah, I'll drop you there first." Gwen said before leaving, Sarah in toe.
Gwen put on her gloves and handed her helmet to Sarah. "Here, for safety and also to hide your mask. I think people might freak out seeing you and your magical mask."
Sarah took it with a smile and got on behind Gwen.
"Hold on tight!" Gwen exclaimed as she took off.
Well, she did not take off too fast, mainly for Sarah's heart. She did not want to freak her out by driving recklessly. So she rode normally and stopped at every red lights. It had it's good side, she did not get pulled over by any cop and some other bikers waved at her. People on motorcycles had a sense of community. It was nice.
When they arrived Sarah got down and Gwen handed her the key. "Here you go. I'll be back."
Sarah waved at her before going into the building. Gwen took off again in a more, well...reckless way. She's young and living in a world of superhero and magic powers, don't hold it against her.
She burned a red light when another bike almost crashed against her. They both flipped each other off. The dude was young like her but at least he wore a helmet. They stared at each other for a hot minute before he looked at his phone and left in a hurry. She did too.
We'll spare the details here. They settled all of their stuff and at the end of the day everything was in place. They all had their rooms to unpack at their own pace. And now they were all in the living room.
"We are so fricking efficient. It's only 6:30! " Gwen said cheerfully."Pizza?" She questioned her teammates.
"Good idea. " Tony agreed and the both of them turned towards the two more reasonable members of the team.
"Fine, you two go fetch the pizzas, me and Sarah will make desert." Batroc said turning towards Sarah for her approval. She nodded.
The evening went on, Tony and Gwen went to go get pizzas, they came back around 7:15 and saw George and Sarah in the middle of making cookies and muffins. They all gathered in the kitchen and shred the pizzas as they baked. It was nice. Well, more than nice. Gwen was happy with group of people. They their routines, their jokes, they cared for each other.
They later settled in front of a movie with plates of cookies and muffins in front of them.
Half way through the movie Batroc got up to take a call in the kitchen whilst the three young adults stayed focused on the tv.
"I will say this movie has good costume." Gwen pointed out, nodding to herself. Yes, in her world movies and shows especially mediaeval fantasies tended to have really disappointing costumes. Even hair department was sometimes a big let down in a lot of fantasy series.
"I think i've seen better." Tony said, pondering the subject. "But costume is essential to say a story. If the costumes have no thought process behind it then it's not worth anything to the story."
"I agree!" She exclaimed in agreement. "Gosh you should see the terrible costumes of the show The Witcher it's, like, horrible." Gwen expressed.
"The Witcher?" Tony asked as Sarah raised her eyebrows.
"No...Don't tell me the Witcher doesn't exist here..."
"No. The Witcher does not have any adaptation. It's just books."
"No games?? No show either?"
Tony shook his head, at her disbelief. "Damn...I would have never bet on that as difference between universes."
"Gwen!" Batroc called from the kitchen.
Gwen got up from the couch, taking a muffin on her way out. She stopped in the kitchen as Batroc set his phone in front of him.
"We have an assignement. Well... I do... But it would be a great opportunity to build some experience for you." He said firmly.
"Ho Sure , what kind of assignment? Another Gala?" She smiled thinking of the cakes she ate at Fisk's gala, even in her memories they were still delicious.
Batroc chuckled, "No, We've been hired to kill this man," He took his phone again to show a picture. Nothing really important to note, he was middle aged and visibly not an important character. "His name is Dave Miller." What a boring generic name, Gwen thought
"Alright, why we killing him?" She asked.
Batroc raised his eyebrows at her visibly surprised.
"What? What did I say?" Gwen frowned at his reaction. Did she have something on her face?
"You..huh...You usually don't bother to ask these questions. You always say they don't matter anyways." He answered with a little smile. Gwen was anchoring a little more in the world around her.
"Oh...yeah... I...Well... doesn't change he's gonna die because he has to."
To her it did not matter, Dave Miller only existed because he was supposed to be their target and die the next day. It's the narrative. They don't matter unlike main characters which are conscious of their life.
"Well his rich, associate which is obviously a mob boss wants him dead." Batroc explained leaning on the kitchen counter.
"Good enough for me." Gwen said, shrugging.
Batroc scoffed before exiting the kitchen with her.
"So how do we plan this? we sneak in and kill him?" She asked, a new wave of energy washing over her at the idea of an assignment.
"Non Gwen, I go in, I take the documents the client wants after you, shoot the target from a roof nearby. Ok?"
"Oh...This is less fun. But Sure ! Let's do that."
They went back to the living room and settled for the end of the movie.
----
Gwen was in her costume, jumping from rooftop to rooftop, sniper rifle on her back. Batroc was the other side of the street to have better access the the target. He would enter by the window as Gwen would shoot from the roof on the other side of the street. Batroc grabs the documents and take a picture of the victim to confirm the contract. Easy night, even to Gwen.
She stopped where Batroc previously told her too. "Bonjourr, bonjour. I'm in place." She said in her ear piece settling down on the roof.
"No time for jokes Gwen. Your accent is horrible too."
"You should teach me then. We should start with curse words."Batroc laughed at that. She smiled to herself as she looked into the scope, searching for her target. "I don't see him yet."
"You see me?"
She aimed her scope towards him, he was on the fire escape. "Yes, I see you. How are you gonna get in?"
"I'll just break it. Now focus I see him going in the living room."
Gwen quickly aimed where he pointed at and waited a bit for the target to stay still. He was on the phone. "Damn, that guy moves so much. Sit your ass down." She mumbled and heard a giggle in her ears. "Stop laughing at me man."
"Hum? I didn't laugh."
"Huh?" She shook her head before focusing once more on the target, soon to be victim. He finally stopped moving so much and sat on his couch. She pulled the trigger when the rifle was kicked out of her hands.
She rolled over to get some distance with the attacker she still hadn't looked at. As she got up she took a good look at him. The Prowler. Again.
"We need to stop meeting like this." The altered voice said. Walking closer
"You are smaller then the last time no?" Gwen quipped as she took a few steps back.
"Gwen! What is happening? Are you okay?" Batroc's worried voice resonated in her ear.
"Got a problem. He dead?"
"No. You missed him. He fled. I'll be right her-''
"No no! Catch him! I can handle this."
They were both circling each other. At least he was polite enough not to attack her as she talked with Batroc.
"Can I ask why you don't have pants?" He pointed at her legs. Yes he was definitly smaller then when they met at the Gala.
"Fabric shortage. Fan service." She answered putting her hand on the gun holstered on her thigh. "You're not the one who attacked me at the Gala." She accused.
He stopped so did she. To her pleasure too she was getting dizzy with that circling.
"I'm right." She said with a smile.
"Yeah the other guy was busy." He said. Damn that robotic voice did not help taking him seriously. "You enjoyed your little nightly outing. Nice tag by the way." He teased, referring to the tag she did a few days ago.
Gwen thought she saw someone when she was talking to Miles, it was him. "is this a sneaky threat because you know my identity?" He nodded. She laughed. "Take that mask off. I know your Hobie Brown."
He visibly froze. He stared at her and she stared back. Before she knew it her was running towards her ready to fight. She took her pistol out and aimed at him. Obviously his claws protected him. Stupid, practical, really cool costume. he punched her right in the face and took her gun away. Gwen fell on the ground. Before he could strike her again she used her favorite move. Leg sweeps. He fell on his ass and she quickly got up to immobilize him. She took his big claws off and cuffed him.
She felt blood dripping from her nose and in her mouth too.
"You hit me hard." She complained.
"How did you figure it out."
"It's my thing I know every secret identity there is. Now that i know there are two Prowlers in this one, I have an idea who your supervisor is." She made him sit up before going to grab her gun. "So, why are you spying on me? It's creepy."
"You...Stole documents from Kingpin?"
"Oh right...Wait a sec." She turned around and talked in her ear piece to Batroc. "Yo, I got the guy that attacked me. So easily might I add. The plot armor is on my side tonight." She laughed at her own joke a little before continuing. "Anyways. Did you get the guy? "
"Yes. I took care of it." Batroc answered sounding a little out of breath.
"Do we still have the documents we stole at the gala?"
"We do?"
"Do we need them?"
"Nooo? Why all these questions?"
"Well the prowler attacked me and it's all because of those, so if we give em back it will be all good." she turned around towards Hobie. "Your boss would leave us alone if we give it back?"
"Huh..I can ask?" He said a little taken a back.
"Perfect! Everyone will be happy. "
"Gwen, I'm coming your way." Batroc told her.
"Right." Gwen stared at Hobie before taking the key to the handcuffs out of her pocket. " You want out?"
"Yes...Obviously. Why do you have real handcuffs anyway. "
"I have a cop car. Long story." She explained as she uncuffed him.
They both got up, she handed him his claw/gloves back and took off her mask. "So, we agree, you don't try to kill me?"
"Yeah, for now." He mumbled.
"Don't be angry, I know every secret identity and if you're worried, I won't and probably can't tell anybody." She paused a little. "Not that I intend to."
Batroc landed next to her and glared at Hobie. He then turned around to stare at Gwen's bloody face. he handed her a tissue before silently moving closer to the young man. Who he struck really hard in the guts. Hobie fell on his knees and Batroc went back towards Gwen, who was shocked beyond words.
"You good?" She finally asked him. "Like... damn!" she turned towards Hobart grimacing after seeing him try not to puke. "Are You good??"
He put his thumb up before getting up. "Yep...fine." He replied his voice hoarse and breathless. "I'll go now, I'll get you when my boss wants to see you." With that he did not wait for anything and left.
"I do not like him." Batroc said when Hobie was out of sight.
"That was a dramatic way of showing it." Gwen said with a smile. "A little funny, but still."
"Are you okay? Does your nose still bleed? Let's get home." He took a close look at her still bloodied face before putting one hand on her shoulder and leading the way Home.
His way of worrying was heart warming. Protective and fatherly. Batroc was the best mentor she could have asked for. Imagine if she ended up with Bullseye or something. She shuddered just thinking of the terrible outcome this would be and enjoyed George's presence as they walked home saying plesantries to each other.
Notes:
For those who don't know apparently Gwen was supposed to be Bullseye apprentice but it did not happen. I rememeber someone did an incredible fic on this possibility. It's named "The Bullseye Cut" if I remember well. You should check it out if you did not already.
Fun fact of the day: I discovered My first fan fiction (I orphaned it) Has now over 100 hits and I feel a little guilty now. I'll try to start it over one day.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this chapter,
see you next time!

Chapter Text
Gwen and the rest of the squad was cooking, well, Cecil was reading the instructions as Sarah turned the pages when necessary, Batroc was handling every big knife related activity after Gwen and Tony played with them as if fighting with swords. Tony had to make the pasta whilst Gwen was melting chocolate. The goal was to make cookies, Batroc would make the rest of the meal. And as a good french cliché, he, of course cooks extremely well. Which is a good thing because between the ghost who cannot interact with objects and three young adults who would always choose pizza or other fast food over cooking, he had to step up.
"I got the boring part..." Gwen said as she stared at the melting chocolate.
"If I could trust you with sharp objects I would let you help me...But your knife privileges have been revoked." Batroc said not bothering to look up from his cutting board.
"Honestly, it was funny. I regret nothing."
"Me neither." Tony interjected and they high-fived.
Everybody was in a good mood and was having fun. They might be tight in terms of money but they definitely were having fun together.
They cooked together, and watched movies and shows. To Gwen's delight, Game of thrones is book accurate and the rest of the show is made with care. Incredible! At least for her, the rest of the group did not understand her amazement, and since they do not believe her when she says she is from another universe they brush it off.
After they ate in front of a random french movie Batroc picked out, Gwen went into her bedroom to change into more comfortable clothes. Only to be welcomed by Hobie already in her room. Looking around at the posters on the walls and mess cluttering the floor.
She let out a surprised noise before gaining her composure back.
"What are you doing here? How did you ev-"
"You left your window open. I just let myself in." He walked around casually, as if it were his room. "Kinda dangerous, all those weapons on the floor." He pointed towards the floor whilst sitting on her bed.
"Yeah it's to be better prepared for intruders..." She deadpanned although she ended up smiling a little. "So, why are you here? In my room, with your shoes on might I add."
He looked down at his shoes with a little scoff. "I'm here to get you, My boss wants the documents and to meet you. "
"Huh...Right..." Gwen bolted towards the living room. "Where are the documents? Like the pages from Kingpin?"
"..." Batroc went to get them in a creepy silence. He stepped back into the room to hand her the papers. "Is he here?" He asked with seriousness.
"Yep." She took the papers and walked towards her room with a huge smile as Batroc followed behind. "You better get up buddy." She said as she entered her room.
Hobie did get up quickly when Batroc came in right after her.
"We have a door." Batroc stated.
"I'm just here to get you to my boss." Hobie stated with a smirk, although he seemed tense, the punch from Batroc must have left an impression.
Gwen got her backpack and put the documents in it before turning towards the two. "Let's go! Please try to not punch each other." She said happily as she left the room toward the front door. Batroc followed behind and Hobie right after.
As they got down on the streets Hobie and Gwen walked side by side and Batroc right behind. Clearly more focused than Gwen who was looking around and talking with Hobie.
"Did you ever met daredevil?" She asked with energy.
Hobie laughed. "Hell no. I was lucky enough not to. The other guy did. He fucking hates him." He looked at her with a smile. "He hates you too. He is very bitter about what happened at the gala."
Gwen huffed a laugh. "Well I needed to get way and killing him was not possible."
"Everybody can be killed."
"No, Not really." She stated. "If I were to get my gun out and shoot you, you would not die. There would be either a problem with the gun or something that will save your life."
"I don't get it." He said a little incredulously.
"See it as the laws of the universe. You have plot armor, since you are an important character."
Hobie turned toward Batroc as if to ask if Gwen was sound of mind. Batroc just shrugged.
Gwen just let out a sigh, nobody believed her. Would anybody believe her? Will everyone act as if she was just crazy?
"We're here." Hobie stated as he stopped in front pf a building.
Gwen turned to look at Batroc who nodded, in a silent way to say "I got your back."
They took the elevator and ended up in a very fancy apartment. Fancy in a way she did not like. It felt empty, mainly because of the lack of colors, Black, white and greys seemed to be the main component of this place, It felt cold and unwelcoming. It did not even look like it was lived in, everything was in perfect conditions. The only good thing in this place for her was the view. Big windows overlooked the city from every angle absolutely stunning. How pretty it must be in night time, she thought.
Hobie guided them towards the dinning area where the Big guy himself was waiting for them. A woman too, although she was not facing them, she was looking towards the city.
"You can leave us." Kingpin said to Hobie in a hoarse voice.
Hobie and Gwen exchanged a look, he was trying to say good luck without overstepping and left.
Gwen and Batroc stood at the end of the table. In silence, as he looked at them. Batroc was stoic, Gwen was not. She was fidgeting with her fingers and tapping with her foot, which was the only sound in the room.
"You have something that is mine, I think." He said looking at Batroc, probably expecting him to have the documents.
"Huh..." Gwen took her bag off her shoulders and took the papers out of it. Fisk got up from his chair and they met around the middle of the table so he could get them. "Here...you go." Gwen said in a little voice. God this man was big. Like a mountain. intimidating as hell. It was so easy to think about how she would act when she daydreamed about living in this universe, but living it made it so different.
Fisk looked at his documents as he turned his back to them, the woman turned towards them with grace and curious look in her eyes. She let out a charming smile followed by a giggle.
"I never would have though a teenager and her father of all people would have done this." She said amused to Fisk.
"If It helps our case, we did not have a choice." Batroc started saying as he walked closer to Gwen.
"I believe we always have, a choice." She said resting her hand on Fisk's shoulder as he skimmed through the documents to be sure nothing was missing.
"Not when your hostage from a guy who could reduce you to dust, literally." Gwen said very matter of factly.
The lady gave Gwen an Incredulous look whilst Fisk glanced up from the papers with intrigue.
"But, you got your papers back, and we are free so, win-win! " Gwen said in an anxious attempt to make things less awkward.
"I actually could use your talents." Fisk said as he set down the papers, giving them his full attention. "You were good enough to infiltrate my event and steal belongings as well as incapacitating both of my best fighters." He stopped, to build suspense probably. "How about you work for me?"
Gwen turned to look at Batroc. Who did the same. In a silent conversation the duo knew they had the same opinion.
"Zat is a very kind offer, but we will have to deny it for now. We would like time for ourselves, not work for anyone." Batroc said kindly and with confidence.
Gwen nodded along to what he said.
"I understand, It must be stressful to never chose your assignments." Fisk said with a warm smile as understanding their position. Gwen thought this man both looked as rough as a rock and yet as soft as a bear. "Well, my proposition will stay and wait for you. I will always need talented people around." He continued in a tone that sounded kind.
Batroc smiled at him nicely with a nod of the head. "We'll keep that in mind. Thank you for the offer."
"How about I offer you a drink before you go?" Fisk asked to Batroc who nodded. The two men went to sit on the couches to share a drink and Gwen was left with the lady.
She walked closer towards Gwen with a warm smile. "No need to be so tense, he probably wants to try and convince your father."
"Oh, huh...He's not my dad." Gwen stated simply.
"Really? Well that seems like an interesting story."
"Not really, I killed a guy and then M.O.D.O.K came to get me to replace the guy I killed in his team, but I was total fraud and Batroc figured it out. So he ended up helping me. He's like a mentor, teaches me a lot of stuff."
The lady huffed a laugh. "Like I said, interesting story. I'm Vanessa." She offered her hand for Gwen to shake.
"Gwendolyn Poole, but everyone calls me Gwen." She shook her hand with a smile already a little more comfortable.
"Say, Gwen, do you like Art?" Vanessa said as they walked towards the window.
"Yeah I do. Like a lot of people my age. Although I doubt we like the same type of art." Gwen said as she looked out the window.
"What makes you say that?"
"Seeing the interior of your home tells me you probably like modern art, Modern art is not my thing."
"I see why."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, from what I saw of you, you seem like a very lively young girl, the coldness of this genre of art does not suit you."
Gwen smiled at these words. "Thank you."
The two men came back into view, both with pleased looks on their faces. It was time to leave for her and Batroc.
Vanessa smiled back. "Even if you don't work for us, please come by my galerie one day, I'll love to get to know you a little more." She handed her a little business card.
Gwen took it before putting it in her phone case. "I'll try, Thank you, it was nice meeting you."
Vanessa smiled as Gwen and Batroc left. Once in the streets they both let go of the tension that had built up in their shoulders.
"God that was stressful. She is very nice tho." Gwen said looking at the card in her phone case.
"She just want to convince you. I don't think we should stick around."
"What do you mean?"
"They have their eyes on us, if we don't work for them we are in their way, better go out of the city and mind our business elsewhere for a while."
"You want all of us to leave? But where?"
"How about we talk about it to the others first?" Batroc said trying to ease her as he rested his arm around her shoulders.
They walked home, slowly.
Once arrived everyone gathered in the kitchen as Batroc explained his worries on the situation.
"I'm just worried they will think of us as threats in the long run. So I think leaving for a while is a good idea. Plus, we are no longer the profitable team we once were, I'm the only one getting assignments too."
"Well," Tony started. "Actually that sounds great, I wanted to study more things and whilst under M.O.D.O.K couldn't since I had to available. I though about leaving for a while."
"I feel as if, I too need to leave on mine own." Sarah said calmly.
"And I wanted to go see my family. They have no idea what happened to me since I left, I need to go see them."
Gwen was shocked. More and more each time. Why did they all have plans about leaving? Was she the only one who did not think further than this? To her this team was going to stick together. Why did they have to split, for some dumb plot reason? This was frustrating. Gwen held it together as they agreed to go on their separate ways but stay in contact.
She packed her stuff like the others, which all fit in a duffel bag. Unlike them she did not have a whole lifetime of stuff to take.
Once she finished packing she went to her window to look out and cry in the cold night air. This was unfair, even the team that was tailor made for her, could not stick around for her. Why? She wanted to stay in this blissful time a little more. Just cooking, running around the city with a silly costume, watch shows with pizzas after, with them.
She heard her door open and close again. Batroc's shoes came into view, he handed her a tissue in silence.
She took it. "It's not fair. I did good. So why the only good thing I have has to leave." It was rhetorical she did not expect an answer.
Yet he gave her one." Maybe more good things will enter your life. And we are not leaving your life either, we'll stay in contact and see each other again. I guarantee you that." He took her into a tight hug. "I'll call you every week how about zat?"
Gwen sniffled and hugged him back. "Yeah that sounds great. And if you see Captain America get me an autograph." She asked half joking. Also to bring up the atmosphere in the room.
Batroc scoffed than agreed.
The next morning, they all went their separate ways, Sarah was the first, Tony went soon after, Cecil too, he promised he would come back to Gwen as soon as he could. Then she left, Hugging Batroc one last time.
"Where do you think you will go?" He asked a little curious.
"No idea, the west coast probably, enjoy the sun and the sea." She said with a little smile.
Batroc smiled back and squeezed her shoulder. "Good, don't forget to put on sunscreen. Be careful and call me if needed, anytime, I'll come."
Gwen nodded before putting on her helmet and leaving with her bags and motorcycle.
Next destination, The West Coast.
