It had been agonizing.
Waiting to discover if she was still breathing. He knew she had woken up, but was she well? Jack had twiddled his time away worrying about her. Lady Belle.
His Belle.
He detested every moment he spent in this cell. Faigen had been released earlier, promised the young surgeon he’d come back as the guards dragged him out. The young man was once again left alone in a cell. The only light was that of the moon. It had illuminated the now dry blood on his hands.
He wished to see her, to hold her, to keep her safe by his side. He was in love. He knew he was; he wouldn’t have confessed otherwise. He had been with countless other women. None however could hold a candle to the woman that captivated his heart.
A life without her was unthinkable. If only he could listen to her heart and feel her pulse once more.
