Chapter Text
Girls are cool, Scott thinks. Girls are pretty, charming and lovable. Scott thinks boys are cool, too. Boys are pretty, charming, and lovable, just as much as girls.
While everyone else his age were discussing about their crushes of strictly the opposite gender, here was a confused Scott Pilgrim who was attracted to two people at the same time with both being of different gender. Scott felt out of place.
Never once did he ever slip up that very fact though. He made very sure that nobody, NOBODY knew of it. The thought of him being known as the 'gay boy' in school was not very ideal.
Not that he was good at hiding it though. He always stared at his crushes whenever they passed by, wether separately or at the same time, and sigh after as if he was a teenager in love. In which he was, a teenager, and in love. Teenagers, man.
He would have to say goodbye to those crushes of his due to his family moving. He was transferred into St.Joel's Catholic Secondary School- getting beaten up within the first fifteen minutes on his first day- and met Lisa Miller, who would soon turn into his highschool best friend.
There he also met Kim Pine, who then became his now ex-girlfriend. Scott very much cherishes those days of highschool with Kim, but his memory of it somewhat blurry due to the fact he hadn't exactly been paying full attention to his relationship with Kim. (bless Kim's poor soul. Her boyfriend cant even commit to their relationship :pensive:)
Scott had fallen in love with some other guy while still dating Kim. He never initiated anything with him, but it was pretty obvious to Scott's entire friend group consisting of all girls, including Kim. Upon noticing his distracted demeanor whenever the guy he kept mentioning was in close range, it wasn't too hard to conclude as much. Kim wasn't upset by this, but you can't blame her for being a little disappointed in Scott's poor effort in commitment for their fleeting first-love teenage highschool relationship. She was very aware that it was temporary and would be short lived. But let a girl dream.
So came the day Kim would ask Scott the big question. Since Kim's not a jerk and respects Scott's privacy, she made sure it was done during a date, with just the two of them. They were just sitting around under a tree in the park, until Kim started, "Hey, Scott?" to which Scott responded with a muffled "mhm?" while chewing on the last bite of his sandwich.
"Are you gay?" Scott almost choked on his sandwich. Swallowing the bite, he answered, "What?! No! Im not gay, why-why would you even think that? We're...I mean, aren't we dating..?" Kim grinned at Scott's clumsy attempt to defend himself.
She looks at Scott in the eyes, locking eye contact. "Depends on if you wanna continue this relationship or not. We've all noticed your new little crush, man. You're not the least bit subtle." Kim sounded like she was holding in a laugh for the last two sentences. Scott, a little flustered, looked away, breaking eye contact with Kim.
"Hey, If it's too much to talk about now, we can talk about it later-" Kim got cut off by Scott. A soft peck on the lips. Scott pulled back. Both flustered, Scott replied, "I still like you, Kim! But I also like that guy, but I also like you, but I also want to hold hands with him, but I also want to hold hands with you..." Scott gaze gradually turned lower and lower, no longer meeting Kim's. Scott took a deep breath, "Im sorry, Kim. Im bad at commitment, aren't I?"
Kim grinned again. "It's alright big guy, liking two people at the same time doesn't make you a shitty partner. That's just how you are, and I think that's fine." Unused to such a response, Scott's eyes widen. "You're fine with it?"
Kim, seriously reconsidering her actions, replied, "Yes, Scott. Now stop repressing your homosexuality and admit you're gay." with a smirk. Or was it another held-in laugh? You can never tell with Kim.
They got up from their fixed position and left the park. The entire walk back home was Scott just rambling about his past crushes to Kim and his laughable 'worries'. The whole relationship ended quite abruptly, not too long after that. It was fun while it lasted.
---
University! Scott loved university( not). First few classes, he'd made some friends. He still hadn't formed a crush with anyone yet, so his life felt a little boring with not much to look forward to.(this man cannot go a day without pouring his affection all over the place) Yeah parties were fun, getting drunk, maybe some casual sex, that was all fun. But it didn't feel as fulfilling as Scott thought it would.
That was until Scott was greeted by a handsome young man settling down to sit next to him in a lecture. "What do you think of this class?" The mysterious man greeted, mysteriously( flirtatiously). "It's...it's okay." a pause. "Who are you?" The man slowly leaned towards Scott, giving a friendly hand for a handshake. "Wallace Wells, the man. What's up?" Scott shook Wallace's hand. "Scott Pilgrim, the guy." Wallace laughs. "Nice to meet you, guy."
Pew! Pew pew! Sounded from the videogame on the tv, until it was interrupted. "What's up, Scott? Nice house you got here." Scott, irritated, replied, "Who are you?? I'm playing a game right now, go away!!" Ignoring Scott's whining, Wallace continues,"Your mom made us some garlic bread. You should have some. They taste really good." This worked suprisingly well, getting Scott to pause his game. Scott whips his head to face Wallace, placing down his controller. "Garlic bread? I love garlic bread! Where?" Gah. It's so bright all of a sudden. It's blinding.
"Definitely not in your kitchen." Wallace teased. Scott, totally not listening at all immediately got up from his couch and ran up the stairs. Pausing mid-flight of steps, he finally greeted, "Oh, hey Wallace! What're you doing here? Come on, let's eat some garlic bread!" Wallace grinned, then shrugged, "Sure, let's eat some garlic bread alright."
"I could honestly eat garlic bread for every meal." Scott spewed, with his mouth full. "Bread makes you fat. Butter makes you fat." Wallace said, glaring at Scott. Scott choked, "Bread makes you fat??"
"Oh, you should come see my band practice some time!" Scott ramdomly brought up. "You have a band?" Wallace asked rhetorically. "Yeah! Come to my house this evening. We're practicing for a gig we got at the Rockit!" Scott flashed a wide grin. "Sounds great. Sure, I'll watch you guys." "Cool, thanks! It's at 6 o'clock, by the way. It's okay if you're late!" "Don't worry, I won't be."
Ding dong! Rang the Pilgrim household's bell. The door unlocked and swung open to reveal a teenager who looked very alike to Scott. "Oh hey, Wallace. Come on in! Scott's been holding off practice because 'he can't start without you', haha." Stacey greeted him. "Oh wow, really? He sure sounds dedicated to his viewers." He joked. "He really is, it's ridiculous-" "Wallace! You're here! Come on, quick, get over here!" Scott interrupted his sister as he dragged Wallace to the room they were 'practicing' in.
"Hey, Guy. Wanna study over at my place later?" Wallace casually invited Scott. As obtuse as Scott is, he asked, "At your place?" Wallace sighed, "It's right across the street to yours." It took him a few seconds but the cogs turned and he understood the assignment. Scott beamed, "Oh. Sure! So 8 o'clock?"
The concept of walking from an educational institution together with someone to that very someone's house wasn't inherently new to Scott, but this was the first time he'd done so with a man, and he's a little excited, much to say. So far his university life was going pretty well, he thought.
Wallace unlocked the door to his basement-apartment, revealing an...a-okay living room, Scott guessed. Though he quickly adapted and immediately wasn't bothered by it anymore in the total span of 10 seconds he'd been in another man's house. He found it pretty cozy, to be honest.
He sat himself down on the floor(rug) as Wallace made them some tea. To clarify, Wallace was making iced tea. Scott did a quick little sight-tour of the apartment as he glanced around. Wallace sat down and handed Scott his iced tea. "Your basement looks really cozy." Scott pinched in. "Thanks. I don't usually get that." "Then what do you usually get?" Wallace took in a deep breath, "Well, they'd usually say it's cramped, or just straight up ask how do I survive in such a place." Scott placed down his iced tea, "What?! How could they be so rude? I'd totally live here."
"Oh really?" "Yeah!" "You've only been here once and you're already planning on moving in with me? Slow down, Scott." Wallace joked. "Yeah, if it meant I didn't have to put up with my sister- wait what? Move in with you?" A cog turned. "Wait wait wait no i meant as in, live in a place like this, not live here! I wouldn't want to live with you. Wait wait no no- I would LOVE to live with you actually, Wallace."
"...Sorry, I'm all over the place, aren't I?" Scott looked like a kicked puppy. "Hey don't worry about it, I was just messing with you." Wallace ensured him. "But...I actually would love to live with you, Wallace. I wasn't really kidding. If we both lived in the university dorms i wouldn't mind having you as my roommate!" The kicked puppy had turned into a beaming golden retriever. Wallace smiled, "Oh stop that, you're so cheesy. You're not the first guy I've ever pursued, guy."
"So that means you're pursuing me?" Scott replied with zero hesitation. This may or may not had had caught Wallace a little off guard. "Oh, did I say I was pursuing you? Slip of the tongue." He was not hiding it well, not at all. Silence.
Tension began to grow. Sexual tension. Slowly gulping down their iced tea, the ice clinking as it hit the sides of the glass, the unbreaking eye contact between the two.
One final gulp of the iced tea, a refreshing sigh and both placed down their empty glasses simultaneously onto the rug. Commence staring contest. It's fierce. Scott's head is filled with thoughts of how he should make his move. Not sure about Wallace's, but he is definitely smirking hard at Scott.
Scott interrupted the staring contest, "So... let's study, I guess!" Darn it Scott you just had to f% it up. Wallace's smirk dropped into a confused-disappointed-deadpan expression that looked as if he was trying to say "What??". Scott sat awkwardly still. Voice deadpan with a hint of disappoinment, Wallace followed up, "Sure, let's study." Scott panicked. Wallace was about to get up to grab his books until Scott grabbed his wrist and stopped him. "W...wait. Let's...why don't we study on your bed instead? Studying on the floor is boooring. Dont you think? Your bed- i mean, matress would be much more comfortable." Scott paused. Wallace then opened his mouth, but before he could say anything Scott stopped him again, letting go of his wrist.
"Can I study you?" They locked eyes. "Smooth, guy. Real smooth." Wallace laughed his ass off which left Scott a little confused. Until Wallace grabbed Scott's arm and pulled him onto his matress. Breathtaking. "Wow. You're amazing." Scott beamed. "Slow down guy, I haven't even done anything yet." Wallace still laughing his ass off calmed himself down.
A corner of his mouth lifted as he looked Scott in the eyes, slowly leaning closer, locking lips.
They pull away. Sparks.
"You're a terrible kisser, guy."
"Well you certainly aren't- wait, did you see that?"
"I don't know. What do you think it was?"
"Sparks..."
"Sparks, eh? We must be in a movie."
A small pause.
"Can we kiss again?"

Notes:
Hi!!! this is my first actual properly finished fic ever,, I hope you enjoyed ^^
since i really like-and by that i mean enjoy- the fics where scott's either hella casual about gay shit or is clearly very gay, but he insists that he is not. "no homo!" my ass. anyway i wanted to imagine a version where scott has this realisation a bit earlier, maybe around the same time wallace did AKA before they met.
In this version scott would be very casual flirting and casual fling with anybody regardless of gender as much as he'd like without saying "i wish you were a girl" for the millionth time in every scollace fanfiction. fyi i love ramscott AND scollace AND ramscollace. i agree with scott having two hands!! let him have both!! ( I say then write a scollace fic with no ramona....what a traitor... )
