Chapter Text
Tommy
Tommy trudged along a path he had become familiar with over the years. He had finished his chores at home and after constantly being yelled at by his foster parents, he decided fuck it and walked out.
He really just needed to get out of that house, thankfully he had one place that felt safe.
His friends.
Tubbo and Ranboo were his two favorite people. When you know someone who has similar issues to you and you get along with, it's hard not to get attached. Tommy was never one to call himself clingy. No. He was a big man, the biggest ever! Yet still he was always walking to either Tubbo's or Ranboo's house at night for comfort.
It was late. Tommy hadn't bothered checking the exact time before he left but he knew it was late. Every inch of the sky was painted black and blue with a full moon and white dots. He walked faster. Uneased, he realized that something felt different that night.
☆
It took Tommy too long to crawl through the window. Ranboo just laughed at him and pulled him through onto the roof. They had stolen snacks and sodas from Ranboo's kitchen. Their parents probably wouldn't mind. Tubbo dropped a bag with candy and junk food in it as the three got comfortable, “I got yelled at by my dad earlier. Something about me being too lazy and needing to do more around the house. So I snatched the candy bowl I had in my room and ran here.”
Poor Tubbo. His mom left when he was young leaving him with his dad. Tommy was never fond of the man. He was an asshole and left his kid alone too many times. Nearly every night. It was how Tubbo was constantly able to get out.
Ranboo stared at Tubbo apologetically and offered a soda to him. They spoke with a soft voice as they held the soda, “Sorry about that. You are always welcome to stay at mine?” Their eyes creased slightly as they smiled at the other boy.
Ranboo had decent parents and siblings. They still got shouted at frequently. Who knows what would happen if his parents found out he had been lounging on their roof with two other kids. Ranboo's parents were mostly strict but still would lock him in his room for no reason for hours on end.
They weren't the most liked group and certainly weren't liked by their parents but they had each other and that was enough. It was all the three of them needed.
Tommy sighed contently and sat down on his back. He stared up at the night sky and the pretty stars and moon.
If he blinked he would've missed it.
Something almost green shot across the sky. Tommy yelled and shot up and pointed at the sky and turned to the other two. Tubbo was staring at him like he was insane and Ranboo just held a hand out making sure he wouldn't fall.
Tommy smacked their hand away gently as he pointed frantically at the sky, “Holy shit- Did you guys see that-!? It was like this flying thing! What the fuck!? It was- was like a shooting star but green and it- different!”
It took a moment before Tubbo began cackling and smacked Tommy on the back gently, “Really boss man? What was it- fucking aliens!?” He cackled and hit his knees. Ranboo shut him up by pulling up the boy's hood.
“Be nice- Tommy what did you see?” Ranboo turned to Tommy and seemed interested.
He still felt embarrassed by his outburst due to Tubbo's hysterical laughing fit. He flipped him off and whispered uncomfortably, “It was something in the sky and it flew across- It might've been my imagination.” He suddenly felt less freaked out and more ashamed about how he acted due to something that probably was just his eyes playing tricks.
When Tubbo finally calmed down, he glanced at Tommy with a small frown, “Sorry.. I am sure it was real! Maybe you saw a shooting star or an alien from another planet!”
Tommy threw himself back and groaned, “When you say it like that it's like you're making fun of me Tubs! Fuck off!”
They sat like that for a moment before Ranboo spoke up, “Maybe it was?” They whispered and hesitantly began rambling as they realized he had his friend's full attention on him.
“Honestly, we could be only one of thousands of planets that have life on them! Earth could just be another planet full of life with creatures adapted to live on it! What if there are millions of planets with unique life living there? We would have no way of knowing!”
It went quiet.
It was quiet until Tubbo broke the peace, “Deep shit right there man.”
They all broke into a laughing fit cracking jokes. Suddenly the thing in the sky wasn't as scary anymore to Tommy as he cracked jokes about it himself. He nearly spilled a coke which only led to more laughing.
Ranboo covered their mouth through his mask and giggled, “My neighbors hate me and I know why-!”
When the moment passed and they were all yawning and half asleep, they called it a night. One by one they got through the window and passed out on Ranboo's bedroom floor.
“Night night, hopefully the aliens won't eat us in our sleep tonight!” Ranboo.
“I hope they eat you. Good night.” Tubbo.
“I hate both of you, fuck you. You're not worthy of a good night from me.” Tommy.
☆
Well this night is shit and so is anxiety. Tommy pulled the blankets over his head and forced himself to not scream. His friends were out and had been snoring, so unaware of the fact that their friend was currently on the verge of bashing himself into a wall just to sleep.
It seemed an hour of sleep was all his body wanted anyway, so he got up and walked to the window they were climbing in and out of hours earlier. He caught the time on a clock as he walked passed, 2:31 AM shone tauntingly in bright red numbers.
Tommy opened the window carefully, flinching as he heard Ranboo mumble in their sleep. He opened it enough so he could feel the air against his face. He stared up at the sky and whispered softly, “Maybe it was in my imagination..” He rested his head against his hands with elbows propped up on the window sill. Tommy grinned as he saw muddy footprints on it.
He nearly screeched when he heard floorboards creaking. Tommy rounded on his feet and saw Ranboo staring at him with their hands held up. They fixed their mask and walked up beside him, “Sorry, I wasn't trying to scare you. I heard you whispering and I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
Fucking Ranboo. He was the parent of the group. Not fully responsible- no but he always wanted to make sure that Tommy and Tubbo were okay and safe. Tommy hated it and definitely did not enjoy having someone always there for him.
Tommy went quiet and spoke so softly it was barely audible, “I couldn't sleep. I am still freaked out over the thing I saw.” He stared at the world from the window embarrassed and feeling rather childish. It was a childish thing to be scared of.
He heard shuffling and suddenly he was pulled into a side hug, warm hands holding onto him and a quiet voice just above him speaking, “I think it was real. Whatever you saw, I think you saw some sort of space thing in the sky.”
Tommy did not smile and he definitely did not hug Ranboo back in that moment, “It felt freaky. I know it's just in my head.”
He felt Ranboo flick him gently, “You might have seen something in the sky!”
Ranboo pulled Tommy even closer somehow and by the tone of their voice, he was smiling, “If it makes you feel better I could stay up with you?” He patted his hand before walking back and sitting on the floor with space beside him.
It felt nice. They sat together joking and going through various things in Ranboo's room. He had small figurines he showed Tommy as well sloppy doodles in a notebook of lanky figures with purple eyes. Tommy thought that they kinda were like Endermen from Minecraft.
It was peaceful
☆
Somehow they fell asleep with Tommy basically suffocating Ranboo in a hug.
Fears from last night were forgotten. Tommy chalked whatever he saw up to a really fast plane. Ranboo was interested in the idea of it being something from space, Tommy was just too scared to really imagine that being the truth. Tubbo kept teasing about it but even he seemed to be interested.
They spent the majority of the next day together before they walked around town.
They were walking along in a slightly less active part to keep away from police asking where their parents were, since it was rather late once again.
Tommy kept glancing around behind them, he felt freaked out about something. He hadn't realized he was walking faster until he heard Tubbo yelling at him, “Slow down! Why are you walking so fast!”
Tommy turned to him and Ranboo apologetically and sighed, “Sorry. I just feel like we're being watched or something..” He trailed off and glanced at the sidewalk.
He heard Ranboo suck in a breath and then, “I feel like that too..”
He picked his head up and stared. Well at least he wasn't the only one feeling uneasy.
Tubbo too had gone quiet and fiddled with his sleeve, “Should we go back to Ranboo’s place?”
It hung in the air for a moment before there was light. It was suffocating and it forced all of their eyes shut. Tommy hissed and held his hands up to his face, green light was everywhere around them. He could no longer feel the ground underneath him.
He heard screaming, whether it was himself or his friends he wasn't sure of. He just felt fear and panic as the world around him changed and vanished, until there was nothing left but light and odd noises.
