Until the Sky is Ripped to Shreds

Summary:

The paper was flapping in the wind. It was only held on the wooden pole by a single staple that looked like it was going to disintegrate in the wind with how rusty it was. So the wind would have probably blown it away any minute now. Quackity still walked over and ripped the paper off the pole. He hated being reminded of him.

Chapter Text

A month. His damn birthday was in a month, but then why was he sad. Everyone else was excited for it, and Quackity? He wished it could be removed from the calendar. That DAY was the thing that punched him in the face and said “Now you have to deal with this trauma coming back, bitch!!” Then it would run off until next year. It was the day his best friend went missing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Two weeks.
Quackity was sleeping at his desk when there was a small knock on his door. When Quackity didn’t respond there was another knock, harder this time. Quackity started to slowly wake up, cursing in his mind to whoever dares wake him up at such an ungodly hour. “Quackity?” OH SHIT, it was charlie.
Quackity forgot Charlie always came over to drop off Quackity’s breakfast in the morning. And Quackity would always be awake at that time that Charlie came over, but he drank too much last night and fell asleep at about……hm, 1 in the morning? Anougher knock “Quaaaaaaackiiiiitttyyy, Wake uuupp. Phil’s going to get mad if you fell asleep in your office, again.” Charlie said, clearly upset. Quackity just wanted to go back to sleep (besides he was hung over).
“Phil won’t know if we don’t tell him. Besides, Charlie I’m too sad to sleep at a normal time and you know that.” Quackity tried his best to make it seem like he was telling the truth, but they both knew that he was fully capable of going to sleep at a normal time. He just chose not to.
“Quackity, don’t even start with that shit man. You need to get up and open this door NOW.” Charlie's voice was getting more irritated. “Sorry” Quackity apologized. “Just.. Give me a minute. I’ll get up.” Charlie stopped knocking and waited for Quackity by the door. Quackity picked himself up off the chair, stretched his wings, and shuffled over to the door. He reached for the handle and flung the door open the best he could. Why was the door heavy as shit?
“FINALLY, what took you so fucking long?” Charlie announced, glad that Quackity finally had gotten up. “I fell asleep reading a novel. Ever heard of Heartstopper?” Charlie looked at him, staring. “ Isn’t that a gay graphic novel?” Charlie asked. “Maybe” He said.
“Oh! Cool.” Charlie said. "Can I have my food now?" Quackity asked.
"Oh. yeah."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One week.

Quackity tuned out Charlie as he tried to organize some case files. Charlie was just talking about already planning Q's birthday party that was next week. Quackity didn't care, he wasn't gonna show up away.

"Big Q?" Charlie asked, bringing Quackity back to reality. He turned his head around "Yeah?" He asked. "Phil just texted me. He said he won't be able to go to your birthday party. Bummer." Charlie said, sounding sadder than he should have been. "But he did wish you a happy early birthday." Quackity smiled a little.

"Tell him I said thanks."

Chapter Text

It was Q’s first day at his new job when he first met him. Two years ago

Quackity was walking to his new hell. It was just his new job, and he loved this kind of job, but in this city? Absolutely not. This was going to be terrible; he could feel it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Are you Quackity?” Someone asked while Q waited at the lobby. Quackity turned around quickly, looking around like an idiot until he saw them. “Uh… yeah.” He said. “Great! I’m Phil, pleasure to meet you, I’m your boss.” Phil said as he stuck out his hand for Q to shake. Phil was an average height man with blond hair, black wings, and a basic office outfit. Quackity awkwardly shook his hand. “The pleasure is all mine,” he said. “How ‘bout I show you where your office is?” Phil asked cheerfully.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(sorry for all the time skips, I’m lazy sometimes)

Quackity sat down on his desk’s chair. He tucked his wings close to him, as he curled into himself. Phil had left a while ago to let Quackity get settled in, so now he was alone.

Great.

Quackity sighed as he got up from his chair. He decided it was time to go get to know everyone here. He walked over to the door, opened it, and left his room.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As Quackity walked through the halls over to what he assumed to be the break room. He peaked his head inside. There were 4 people chatting: a tall, dark green haired guy with a black mask; a short, orange haired guy with fox ears and tail; an average height, brown-haired guy; and a taller, brown-haired guy with gray-brownish wings. They were all wearing the same base outfit, a white button-up shirt with black dress pants, but they each had their own coats and accessories. “H..Hello?” Quackity asked from the doorway. Everyone turned to look at him quickly. The shorter of the two brown haired guys gasped. “Hello!” They called out. “Uh, yeah, hi. Is this the break room?” Quackity asked awkwardly. “First day huh?” The taller brown hair guy asked. “Uhm, yes.” Q said. “I’ll show you around then.” The man said.
“Oh, thanks. My name’s Quackity.”
“I’m Wilbur. Nice to meet you, Quackity.”
Maybe this job wouldn’t be hell.
Chapter Text
He knew he was definitely overreacting when anything was thrown his way. The curse of a new job. At least he’s better at that now, hopefully.
Quackity and Wilbur walked down the halls of the building, there was a silence, awkward silence. “So.” Quackity started. “How long have you been working here?” “Hm, maybe about… 4 years?” Wilbur said. “Woah, that’s… a lot.” ‘Oh my god. What kind of reply is that?’ Quackity thought. ‘I don’t want to seem like a fucking idiot on my first day. Uuuuuggghhh, this is just like my middle school years...’ “I…I mean, you must have a lot of experience...”
“Yeah, and many sleepless nights spent chasing a dead lead.” Wilbur said tiredly. “But this job has its fun moments. Like, when it’s someone’s birthday. Normally everyone throws the person of honor a big party. We mostly use our own money for those parties instead of the company's money though.” “That sounds fun.” Quackity said. “I hope everyone would like me enough to do something like that...”  “I’m sure everyone will love you! Honestly, everyone else is probably glad ‘the new guy’ isn’t as loud as Tommy.” The taller sighed. “Who’s Tommy?” Quackity asked. “You’ll meet him eventually. But that’s beside the point, you shouldn’t worry about others' opinions. You saw Charlie’s reaction when you showed up, they like you already! Probably...” “Yeah, maybe.” Quackity sighed. “Wait, which one was Charlie?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“So...” Quackity started “The one with the mask is Sam, the one with orange hair is Fundy, and the one with brown hair is Charlie?” Wilbur nodded “There was someone else who wasn’t there, he was sick, his name is foolish. He also has brown hair, but he’s taller than Charlie. And Tommy wasn’t there either, he’s blond.” He explained. Quackity sighed. “So many people to remember.”

Wilbur raised an eyebrow “How so? It’s only 5 people.” Quackity looked at the ground “It’s hard for me to remember names, and faces.” Wilbur’s expression softened “Oh, well, if you need help I’ll tell you the names again if you ask.” Q looked back at Wilbur and smiled “Thanks” Wilbur smiled back.

“WILBUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRR!!!” They jumped as someone yelled from down the hall, as well as running. Quackity and Wilbur looked back quickly to see Charlie running up to them. Oh god, people. “Wilbur! I’ve been looking everywhere for you!” Charlie exclaimed. “Oh? Why?” Wilbur asked, nervously. “Because I knew the new guy would be where you are! And well, I wanted to talk with him more!” Charlie said. He was pretty loud. Which was fine! Quackity can handle it. He turned his head to face the wall.

Socializing.

Of course, he knew it came with the job he had, having to talk with people. He still didn’t like it all that much. Especially since he just met these people, but you got to hang out with them to be comfortable around them.

“Sooo, new guy. Ho-” Charlie started before getting cut-off by Wilbur “He has a name, Charlie! Quit calling him the new guy.” Charlie rolled his eyes “I was getting to that, before you so RUDELY interrupted me! Anyways-” He turned back to Quackity “What’s your name? Are you new to this city? How long have you been here? Do you have family here? Do you already have friends here? How’s your time here already going? Bad? Good? Amazing?-”

Oh god. He sure is a talker, isn't he?
