Work Text:

It was dark. Really, really dark. Any sort of light that was visible was from a small candle. Why not a lamp? Well, ask the sheep who was still up and working.

This was quite a normal routine for Lanolin really. She would wake up, do any sort of little in between things for herself like getting a cup of coffee and she would go straight to work. It's all she ever really did.

A matter of fact, no one really knew what else she did besides work. Yes, she did go to meetings and do mandatory training exercises with her teammates, but that was a part of her routine, her habits, her everyday life. It's what made lanolin, lanolin.

Of course, it wasn’t always like this no no. She was just a normal citizen just like everyone else. All millions of other mobians living on this planet. She was just one of many who had no real talent. She was simply just herself.

So, how does one little speck, one little sheep out of all the millions of other mobians around her manage to go from citizen to being a leader in a respected and well organized, humanity group to try and make their world a better place?

Well, it's quite a complicated one. From what anyone knows of Lanolin is she originated from her hometown, Riverside, getting raided and raided from Eggman attacks. She was also quite helpful during the metal virus and the rest is history.

So why do these details matter? What makes her special from anyone else? Why was she able to have such an important impact that now has the spotlight pointed at her? Well, no one is sure why. Was it just pure luck?

All these are questions, thoughts, ideas all linger in her head all the time. She never wanted this. She never wanted to be anyone special. She just had to be the bigger mobian and make a difference when no one else couldn’t. She didn’t want to feel so hopeless like she once did.

She didn’t want anyone to feel so helpless like she always did in her life. She had to change. She never wanted to change. Life was so happy back then, right? Why couldn’t anyone else step up? Why must she have to go through so much to stop that wretched doctor only for them to not make any real progress?

Hell, all that restoration does is help out nearby towns and cities from all over the world. Why haven’t they taken any real progress to take him down?

Lanolin couldn’t think straight. It was way past midnight and she should have been sleeping by now. She sighed. She still had so much more work to do. It consumed her. She was chained like a monster. Lanolin shook her head and relaxed. She could finish this up early in the morning.

She got up from her desk and grabbed the candle on her desk. It was holding on for dear life as there was barely any wax. She walked out of her office before looking back at something. She could barely see it, but up against a filing cabinet was a picture frame of herself when she was younger. She only showed a face of discomfort as she closed the door and walked away.

Some things are best left forgotten from your past. Even if her past always found a way to try and creep its way back into her life. But, that was a story for another time and another day.
