Chapter Text
I can’t believe I’m coming down here again. There’s a reason why its called a lair . Evil villains have lairs . I told myself I would never come back… but it can’t be that bad, right?
I walk towards the mausoleum entrance, where the two angel statues, one with a harp, have been sitting for millenia. I pluck the strings of the harp. First, third, seventh, and fourth . The entrance slid open with a groan.
I make my way down winding staircases and dimly lit hallways to the main dining room, where there’s only one medium-sized square table with four chairs around it. I already see Chaos in a velvet black suit, an assortment of shot glasses in front of him. He gives me a tipsy smile… of course half the shot glasses are empty.
Chaos gives me a wink and waves his hand over. I sit down at the chair across from him–
He snaps his fingers.
“Ah!”
The chair is gone from beneath me, and my Fate speed is the only thing that keeps me from falling to the ground. I grab the table and curse under my breath.
The cocky bastard smiles even more at this. His tongue slowly licks across his teeth, stopping at his elongated canines.
“You look delicious in that dress…”
I roll my eyes.
He takes my silence as an invitation to speak. “And even more so when you’re angry.”
I’m on the verge of slapping him right across the face. I grab the chair beside Chaos and drag it to a position across him and sit down. It disappears once again. I look around the room for somewhere else to sit, but all the chairs are gone .
I glare at Chaos but he only seems to smirk more.
“You invited me to eat dinner, but you can’t even give me a chair? The hell am I supposed to sit?” I sigh in frustration. And this is exactly why I never come down here.
“Come here, love.” He pats his lap. Hold on… DID HE JUST CALL ME LOVE ? Oh, I’m definitely considering his offer. I’m starting to like drunk Chaos.
“I’m starting to like you too, angel. ” Oh, angel is so much better than love. Forget considering, I’m walking over now. He should really start calling me angel more. Wait. Goddammit. I forgot Fates could get in your head like that. Screw this. If he’s not playing fair, neither am I.
“Well, I guess I’ll take your offer. ” I throw back. I sit on his lap and he brushes a kiss on the shell of my ear.
“Can I keep you?” He whispers so quietly that I almost can’t hear him.
I debate saying yes, but he’s drunk as hell, so I look up at him instead. I meet his bright green eyes–
Dang it!!! You’re not supposed to look into vampires’ eyes, you idiot!
I already feel Chaos’s allure working as my body warms, or maybe that’s just his body heat from all the alcohol he’s been drinking.
He tilts his head at me. “So?”
Fine. Screw it. He’s just drunk and won’t remember this anyway. “All right,” I reply. “But only until Jacks and Eva get here.”
The two of them are probably making out, knowing Jacks, and frankly, why can’t I have some fun?
Chaos cups the side of my face and brushes his thumb over my lips, his gaze dropping to them. I wonder what he’s thinking that’s got him staring like that. I train my magic on him.
– Alchohol makes me so heady, even after drinking for millenia. Or maybe it’s just LaLa. Oh, how I’ve dreamed about this. Her in my arms, about to kiss me. Dang it. Oh c’monnnn. Don’t get hard, Chaos. –
WHAT. THE. HELL. Forget starting to like drunk Chaos. I’m starting to love drunk Chaos. Now he seems like fun. Not the brooding, murderous, bloodthirsty prick he usually is.
I brush a quick kiss over his lips, just to test.
I pick up distant patters, footsteps, and jump up.
Jacks comes whizzing in, carrying Eva in his arms, bridal style, as he uses his speed to run around. Eva giggles and beams up at him.
Jacks sets her down and walks over to Chaos. Evangaline and I run to each other, embracing in a tight hug. We only let go when Jacks and Chaos have finished the rest of the shots and are pouring seconds.
Evangaline frowns. “Hey, Jacks, you promised no alcohol!”
Jacks smirks. “I promised less alcohol, not no alcohol. This is less. You shoulda seen us when we were in our twenties.” To which, Eva grumbled and pouted. Jacks kissed her, and probably said something in their head, the way Eva blushed.
“C’mon, we can’t let them have all the fun. Let’s eat dessert for dinner!”
We run off to the kitchens, dodging vampires and running straight for the sweets section. We pile our plates high with cakes, cookies, and pastries until they’re about to topple off.
When we go back to Jacks and Chaos, both their faces pink with alcohol, somehow, Jacks has a chair. Eva and I put our massive plates in the table.
Evangeline looks around for a chair, but Jacks uncrosses his legs and says, “C’mere, Little Fox.” He pats his lap and Eva complies.
I roll my eyes at Chaos, already smirking at me, and he raises a questioning brow. “ Now you don’t want to sit on my lap? You were oh, so eager half an hour ago, what happened, angel?”
Oh, he’s DRUNK drunk now. “ If you could see past that cloud of liquor, you’d see that we have an audience now.”
I feel another presence in my head, and it’s not Chaos’s welcoming darkness. “ Hard launch much? ” Jacks looks over at me, winking.
“Oh, butt out Jacks.”
But he doesn’t, the annoying ass, and laughs instead. “ Chaos, you finally did something? LaLa, do you know how many times Chaos has woken me up for love life advice? He’s always whining like, ‘Jacks, what do I even do? I always want to kiss her or take her home every time I see her and she doesn’t even notice me!’ He’s so annoying. But, he’s right. Even I’ve been shipping you for ages.”
Chaos flushes now, and something tells me it’s not just the drinks. I sigh. “ Fine. But only because you’re both piss drunk, and only Eva and I are sober enough to remember this.”
I sit on Chaos, and he hums in satisfaction. He wraps his arms around my middle. Eva doesn’t show much shock, but she smiles, as if she’s happy for us, and I take a bite out of a chocolate cupcake.
Jacks’s unwelcome voice intrudes my mind. “Honestly. You guys are in denial. Chaos is only doing this because he’s had too much alcohol. Just accept it.” It makes me even more mad that he’s right.
Heat rises up on my face. I’m a goddamn schoolgirl realizing she has a crush on someone.
“ So you DO like me back, huh angel?” Chaos’s hands tighten around my waist, giving a playful squeeze.
Jacks only rolls his eyes. “ I’m regretting setting you up.”
“You didn’t do anything Jacks, stop giving yourself credit. And at least now you know how I feel when LaLa and I hafta sit through you and Eva making googly eyes at each other.” Chaos is back to his broody self already.
Suddenly, I hear metal clanking behind me as Chaos’s heart beats faster. “Shoot, I forgot to tell you we’re making a new batch today.”
Jacks narrows his eyes at him. “Seriously? Well, I’m not risking it again. He picks up Eva and her plate of desserts and zooms out of view.
While I’m too busy paying attention to him, a muscular female, one of the not-yet vampire yanks me from Chaos’s grip and his cry sounds far away as I thrash in her arms. She’s got at least seven inches on me and twice my weight.
She runs through the corridors, Chaos on her tail as she sinks her fangs into my neck and drinks my blood for a couple seconds.
Chaos quickly catches up to her and swiftly uses a serrated piece of a broken wine glass to slit her throat. The shard doesn’t quite do the job, which must be painful. But I don’t think Chaos cares as he saws her neck open and leaves her corpse on the floor.
But he’s too late. I can already feel vampire venom running through my veins.
