“Don’t open your eyes yet,” Lumine breathed, hands fiddling impatiently. “I promise it’ll be worth it.”
Yoimiya giggled, bouncing excitedly from foot to foot.. “I mean, if we came all this way for it, I would sure hope so.” Her hands covered her eyes for the sake of the surprise, and anyone could see she was dying to remove them.
Lumine couldn’t help but agree. Ever since she got the idea for this expedition back around the time she visited Sumeru with the firework maker, she’d been dying to show her this place in particular. Something deep in her gut told her that if anyone were going to appreciate the beauty of this location, it would be her.
Her fingers were not frost-bitten for once, thanks to Yoimiya’s pyro vision at use. Their breath puffed in front of them, and the anticipation was literally a killer.
Lumine placed her hands over Yoimiya’s. “Okay, on the count of three. One, two, three!” On her count, Lumine lifted the girl’s hands off her eyes, and Yoimiya sucked in a breath.
“Is that... Is that snow?!” She breathed excitedly, jumping up and down. “Oh my gods! That’s, like, actual snow!” She bent down and scooped up a fluffy handful. A visible shiver jolted up her spine as she laughed, throwing the powdery white up in an explosive cloud above her head.
Lumine laughed, pleased that her feeling seemed to have been correct. “So, was it worth the journey?”
Yoimiya turned to her wearing a face of bafflement. “Uh, yeah?!?! This is literally so epic! Lumine, you’ve outdone yourself, holy firecracker! Oh my gods!?” She spun around, looking over the frosted scenery. Standing from this vantage, they could make out the entire icy slope, as well as the distant city of Mondstat. The sun shone brightly, casting the world into rainbow reflections around them.
Lumine smiled. “Welcome to Dragonspine, Yoimiya.”
Yoimiya reached down and made another snowball. She held it in her hands for a few seconds as if contemplating, before a mischievous grin spread across her face. “Watch me make a snowball! Pew!” She added as she threw it straight at Lumine. It hit her face, exploding in a cloud of freezing white.
“Yoimiya. You did not.” Lumine blinked as a chunk of ice slid down her cheek.
Yoimiya just laughed, head thrown back with pure joy as her breath puffed around her like a freezing halo.
Her ego was short-lived as Lumine retaliated with her own snowball, striking Yoimiya right in the face, just as she herself had been attacked. Yoimiya screeched, voice filled with laughter as the two girls continued throwing snowballs at each other. Neither had the slightest care in the world whether the hilichurls were judging them, for it didn’t matter.
The only thing either was concerned about was who could make the most impactful snowball, and who had the better aim. This was war, after all. Snowball war.
Besides, whoever said fire and ice didn’t go together clearly hadn’t seen Yoimiya in Dragonspine.
