Work Text:
Sometimes, in the darkness of her room, she would only hear the creaking of floorboards. It was most likely her roommate (and practical sibling) walking around. But sometimes, it would be deathly silent. She was all alone. The sound of her own breathing made her uncomfortable, even. Firefly didn't like being alone often.
Or ever.
So, when she met the one actually willing to spend time with someone like her, Firefly made sure that this one would stay. Stay with her at all times. Thinking about it made her sound possessive, but she couldn't quite help herself. She'd been thrown to the curb, metaphorically and literally, on multiple occasions.
So, when she met Robin, she held on. She held on tight. She didn't want to let her go. She always thought of the halovian. Whenever she would draw hearts on her palm with her index finger, whenever she would kiss Firefly until her lungs gave out, whenever they spent time together.
The world would have to kill her in order to make Firefly let her go.
That message to Robin, nearing 3 a.m., immediately received an answer.
[Firefly]
The world would have to kill me in order to let you go.
[Robin]:
??
Buggy?
Are you alright? Why the sudden message?
In which, Firefly never responded. She let her phone vibrate. A message, a call or two, Firefly just let it happen. She might have concerned Robin a tad. She picked up her phone, tears pricking at her eyes.
[Robin]:
I love you too, sweetheart.
Can I come over? I feel like I need to.
[Firefly]:
Please do.
[Robin]:
I'm on my way, cuddlebug
I'll be there soon <3
She hated being alone. Robin knew that. It's not every time the two can spend the night together. It sickened the hunter deeply. How attached she was to Robin. As much as she wants to give her space, she can't bring herself to. If she gives her too much, she'll be forgotten, right? It's just how her brain works in the dead of night.
A quiet knock resonates through her ears. Firefly perks up and almost runs to the door. She opened it with haste, seeing Robin in all her beauty. Well, as much as the moonlight gives her access to see. Her wings fluttered briefly as she let herself in. She pulled Firefly into a hug, closing the door behind them.
"I'm here, don't worry. I love you.~" Robin whispered, trailing gentle hands down the others back. Firefly clung onto her like a lifeline, feeling her eyes water.
Robin has to practically carry her back to her bedroom, all while whispering the comforting lulls in her ear. When they reached the bed, Firefly loosened her grip. She kept her arms wrapped around Robin, even as she was laid on the bed. She stared up at the diva in the dark, cracking a small smile.
"Did you miss me?" Robin asked, barely above a whisper. Firefly let out a hum in response, pulling Robin down into another hug. She felt the soft feathers tickle her face, burying her nose in the crook of her lovers neck.
"Is that a yes?" Robin huffed, amused. She stroked Firefly's hair as if she were a dog. It was strangely comforting to the bug. It triggered the response to pull the singer in closer.
"Please don't leave me..." Firefly mumbled, rubbed her thumb on Robin's back. Her throat was dry. Robin nudged Firefly to loosen her grip, but to no avail. Robin merely stuck with it for a while, kissing Fireflys head once or twice. It was like a metaphorical pull to relaxation.
Robin was able to give herself space from Firefly, staring into her eyes. The diva had a soft smile, baring her face. It always made Firefly melt. Robin inched closer, tucking a strand of hair away from Firefly's face. "Silly bug. I'll always be here." She planted light-feather kisses on her face, trailing down a tad.
Robin never dared to go anywhere scandalous, especially not with Firefly in this state. She knew the bug wanted affection, so that is what she'll give. She took her hand, kissed it as well, and intertwined their fingers.
"Are you sure..?" Firefly mumbled, feeling lips on her neck. Robin didn't waste another second to trail up and look the hunter in the eyes. "Certain. You know I love you, right?" She touched foreheads with her lover, awaiting an answer.
Firefly stared down a bit, taking a deep breath. "Yes... yes, I know." Her words came out slow, but without hesitation. Robin smiled, capturing Firefly in a sweet kiss. The kind Firefly always loved. While it didn't last long, it took her breath away. It always did.
"Good." The bird whispered, her wings fluttering slightly. "I love you, cuddlebug."
"...I love you too."
