Work Text:
Rei Himura had always wanted to become a mother.
She had forever longed to know what it felt to love another person who was of her own flesh and blood. Another life that she should make with love and would cherish eternally.
However, she had her doubts that such a thing would ever occur as her family had never allowed her to leave the residency, something obscure like wanting to make sure their only daughter did not fall ill or worse, they were doing that to protect her.
Did her parents really think someone would kidnap or kill her? Sure, she had gotten good looks, but she didn’t think it was anything to fawn over. Besides, didn’t she live in a hero society for crying out loud? Wasn't their society meant to protect those who couldn't protect themselves?
Although deep down in her heart and soul she knew why her parents kept her away from the rest of the world. And for a lifetime she had dreaded it, but she would be content with her future, if that is what pleased and helped her parents.
Her mornings consisted of learning how to cook all different sorts of meals, from Soba to Takoyaki. Her mother made sure that she perfected each dish before moving on to a different one.
“It is a woman’s job to cook for her husband and children,” her mother would often tell her.
Rei found that amusing, just a tiny bit, because she didn’t have a family of her own yet. What skills would she need if she was forever going to be trapped inside of the walls of the Himura Residency.
Nevertheless, she pursued perfecting meals. She discovered that making cold meals were much more delightful than hot and steamy ones. It was something about the way in which the cold made her feel at ease, much like her quirk.
Her quirk was something that should be fawn over, she had heard it a million times. Hell, it was the entire reason the Himura family married within the family they needed, no they wanted to be the best of the best. It was just a shame that her family was not financially stable, money truly does rule it all.
Rei’s afternoons consisted of sewing and other motherly providing skills. She enjoyed this more than she did the cooking. She liked feeling useful and being able to do something that she loved with care for others.
She knew how to sew anything that needed fixing, from the smallest of holes on a fabric to the ones that felt like there would not be another option but to throw out.
It was during these times that she would lose herself in her thoughts.
Would she be able to ever have another life come from her own, someone she could look at and see a reflection of herself? Would the child have her white straight hair or would it be of a different color? What color would its eyes be?
Regardless of the gender as she did not care for that, the most important thing that she wanted was that her child was healthy and loved, always knowing that Rei Himura, their mother would be by their side supporting and loving them all the way.
Her nights consisted of time to herself, but really this was what she did everyday for the past sixteen years.
She would get into bed and often read novels, typically her family provided her with ones that were informational and she could get some use in them, but everyone once in a while there would be a romance one, those she seemed to find the most intriguing.
She had a burning desire and longing for those, to know how much a person could love another, whose soul and body could connect with in such a way that was intimate. She knew that her mother and father did not love each other, yet that did not discourage her from the fact that love did exist. She herself had never loved anyone but she was certain that if the time ever came she would, and in return she would feel that love back.
Rei Himura would spend her nights sobbing, longing for a future that she would never have.
--------------------------------------------------
It was the morning of Rei’s seventeenth birthday, and she was getting ready for the long day ahead of her.
Her parents did not go out of their way to make a fuss about her birthday, they never have, so in reality it was just another normal day. Before her cooking lessons she would water her flowers, something that she was not forced to do, an artist that she herself chose to do and loved very much.
As she exited the house, she felt it in her bones that something was off. There was a thick atmosphere that was clogging up the air, almost like smoke did to one’s lungs. She took a few more steps before she came in contact with a strong build, someone who she did not recognize.
She looked up and noticed that this person was a man with piercing blue eyes that held an intensive and intimidating gaze, and red flaming hair.
This mysterious man who looked a couple of years older than her, looked her up and down and looked pleased with himself. Rei had never felt more confused in her entire life.
He must have sensed her confusion and introduced himself.
“My apologies, I’m Enji Todoroki,” he had exclaimed with such a fierce tone.
“Rei Himura,” she replied in a small manner, “I don’t mean to pry but is there any reason you are here?”
She had always been a curious girl, and wanted to know what business this man had here. No one really ever came to the residency, no one other than family members. So, what were her parents up to?
‘Stop lying to yourself’ a little voice in her mind spoke to her, ‘The day has finally come’.
Rei wanted these thoughts to stop invaidng her mind, she did not need any of this right now. She just needed to find out what this man wanted.
“Himura-san,” he started and she was immediately encaptured in his bright blue eyes, “I came here in hopes to speak with your parents, would you be able to inform them of my presence”.
Just for a second, her mind was flooded with voices and thoughts, thoughts that she had never hoped to be true. Was her life really about to go in this direction, be forced into some arranged marriage with a person she knew nothing about?
But she shot those thoughts down and quickly went to go find her parents, silently praying that Todoroki was just here for anything else than that.
As soon as she found her parents and informed them of the man who was waiting outside, they went from looking displeased to looking like they just received the best news in the entire world. This truly was getting Rei feeling more uncomfortable by the minute.
Her father stared at her for what felt like a lifetime. This was the longest he had ever spent looking at her and even then she did not want it, she did not want to be the center of attention, especially not for what was going to occur next.
Rei wanted nothing more than to disappear into her room or even into the kitchen to make more food, anything was better than this. Slowly, her mother’s hand was wrapped around her daughter, and she whispered her happy birthday.
---------------------------------------------------------
Just like an object at a store, Rei Himura had been sold to Enji Todoroki.
He had big dreams that he wished to achieve and he needed her for that to happen. Well, it was not her as a person that he desired, it was her quirk. Was she ever going to be more than her quirk?
Quirk marriages were banned and deemed illegal but she had found out that Enji Todoroki was the number two hero, and he would do as he pleased reagadrless of what rules there were. He had deep hatred for All Might, who had the title of number one, and wanted nothing more than to surpass him but he knew that was nothing but a failed dream.
He needed an heir who would inherit both his fierce flames and her cold ice in order to get what he had always dreamed of.
Rei Himura would help a selfish man get what he wanted.
Rei Himura would finally leave the walls of the Himura Residency for another residency.
Rei Himura assured herself that while this marriage was nothing more than a contract, she would be happy and live with a smile on her face.
Rei Todoroki would finally become a mother.
