Summary
King Viserys ruled fairly ineffectively for thirty some years but the smartest thing he ever did was appoint his daughter and heir, Rhaenyra Targaryen as his hand ten years ago. To ensure the stability of the realm she gifted Dragonstone to her younger brother, Aegon, for him to begin his own branch of the House Targaryen. With him went his sister-wife Helaena and their brother Aemond, where they've resided a year and a half.
This sign of true alliance with her brother settled all worries of an all out war of succession, to the disappointment of many. Aemond has spent his time in their ancestral home brooding, but studied as much as he could get his hands on. But what he really wanted was a seat on his sister’s small council when she took the throne. Rhaena Targaryen was the quiet rock of her family. Her father and stepmother had an ecstatic marriage that led to the human equivalent of a litter of children. When Rhaenyra was appointed as hand, the younger children became her responsibility, It was one she took pride in, but often exhausting.
