Chapter Text

The house was quiet. The only sound was the light snore of the man sleeping. The silence was soon broken by the loud crash of glass breaking, waking the man. He grabbed the closest thing to him, a picture frame with a picture of his ex fiance, and started walking into the living room.

He saw the broken window behind the couch and knew someone was inside. He heard footsteps in the kitchen and slowly started making his way there. He saw someone standing facing the counter. Although the interloper's back was to him, the man could recognize that hair from anywhere.

"What the hell are you doing in my house Halpert?" Roy asked. He hadn't seen Jim in almost a year. Roy had been fired from Dunder Mifflin and that was the only reason they even talked to one another.

Jim turned around looking furious. Roy could tell he had something behind his back and suddenly wished he was more prepared than this.

"Pam told me what you've been up to Roy. All the calls, and following her around stops now." Jim pulled a gun from behind his back. Roy dropped frame and put his hands up.

Its true, Roy had been harassing Pam for some time now. He knew it was wrong but he just can't let the love of his life leave him for Jim Halpert.

"Hey man, there's no need to get so possessive. I won't call her any more and we can pretend that none of this ever happened ok?" Roy said nervously. He never thought that Jim would resort to violence but Roy decided that he would also do crazy things for Pam.

"It's to late for that" Jim said as he shot three bullets into Roy, two going in his chest and one in his stomach. He watched as Roy layed on the kitchen tile, bleeding out. Jim quickly grabbed the shell casings and ran to around to the end of the street where a car with no licence plate was waiting on him with Pam sitting shotgun.

"Did you actually kill him Jim?" Pam asked nervously. She hadn't been on board at first but after asking Roy repeatedly to leave her and Jim alone, she knew this had to be done.

"Yeah. At least I think he's dead. You're finally safe Beesley." He leaned over and kissed her before driving away.

They both go to work the next day hoping no one will mention what happened. It was all over the news this morning but But of course, their boss is Micheal Scott. He comes in the office looking scared, his eyes darting around in a manic way.

"Good morning Micheal. Are you doing ok?" Pam asked him when she saw how freaked out he was.

"Roy Anderson was murdered last night of course I'm not ok!" Micheal ran to his office and Dwight followed him in to talk about getting a better security system for the building.

Jim and Pam share a knowing look. No one suspected them yet. They both talked about what they will do if they are ever caught. They decided they would go up to New York which is a few hours away.

Everyone could hear Micheal crying in his office. Dwight came out a few minutes later to announce a conference room meeting in five minutes.

Five minutes later everyone is in the conference room a little annoyed that they had to be there. No one there liked Roy. They all viewed him as Pam's violent exfiance who got fired. Micheal came in lacking his normal energy.

"Everyone knows by now that Roy is dead. We need to take some time to honor his life so the Party planning committee will be throwing a memorial service."

"Absolutely not Micheal! There is no way I will plan anything for that man! And besides we will never get the budget to have anything nice" Angela yelled at Micheal. She hated the way Roy would hit on her, especially when he was still with Pam. It was demeaning.

"Angela does have a point Micheal. He hasn't even worked here for almost a year." Jim chimed in sounding a little nervous.

"But he did work here Jim! Someone that worked here got murdered and that means something to me. If money is an issue, I will pay for everything. So go plan!" Everyone went back to their desks except Pam, Angela, Merideth and Phyllis to plan Roy's memorial.

Jim and Dwight sat down at their desks and Jim was trying to focus on his work but couldn't. He kept zoning out, thinking about the night before. Jim did what he needed to do. If Roy was still alive he could still hurt Pam which was not an option.

"Jim, why are you not working? I know that you have not made a sale in a few days. What is wrong with you lately?" Dwight asked making Jim focus on what was going on around him.

"I just haven't been sleeping well recently. Mind your business Dwight" Jim lied. He knew that if anyone in the office was going to figure out what happened it was going to be Dwight.

Dwight noticed that something was off with Jim the moment he walked inside. Then during the meeting, he and Pam were acting even weirder, Him being the amazing voulenter sheriff that he is, Dwight decided that he would investigate during lunch.

When noon came around, Dwight walked out to the parking lot to search Jim's car. He mentioned that he was going out for lunch so that his absence in the break room would not be questioned. He pulled a pencil out of his pocket, feeling very proud of himself that he could pick a lock using almost anything.Dwight pushed the pencil inside the car lock and started moving it around.

After a few seconds he heard a click and opened the door to Jim's car. At first everything seemed normal. There was an old water bottle in the cup holder, a pair of sunglasses, and an empty Starbucks bag that he was guessing is from this mourning.

However, that changed when he opened the glove box.

Inside there was a gun and a hoodie with some blood on it.

Dwight couldn't believe his eyes. Here is all the proof that Jim did in fact murder Roy. He knew that him and Pam had been going out for a few weeks now but that doesn't explain why he had to kill Roy. Was Jim intimidated by him? Was he jealous?

Dwight didn't know but what he did know was that he had to do something. He closed the glove box and exited Jim's car. As he reentered the building, Dwight thought about all of his options.

He could just call the police. But he considered Jim kinda a friend and to blindside him like that felt wrong even if he did kill someone. Dwight decided to just pull Jim aside and just talk to the other man.

Dwight walked back into the office greeted by Pam at reception.

"Hi Dwight, how was your lunch" she asked him innocently. He wondered how much about the murder she knew.

"It was alright. Do you know where Jim is, I need to talk to him" The question seemed to make her uncomfortable. Pam visibly stiffened and looked panicked.

"He's in the break room I think. Why do you need to talk to him?"

"Just need to discuss a sales call we're going on later" Dwight replied trying to calm her down some.

He walked into the break room where Jim and Oscar were talking about some new movie that came out that Dwight had no interest in.

"Hey Jim, can I talk to you for a minute" Dwight said interrupting their conversation.

"Uh Yeah in a sec anyway the ending is just so-''

"We need to talk now" Jim could hear how serious Dwight was. He excused himself from his conversation and went to the stair well.

"What do you need Dwight" Jim asked nervously. He knew something was up when they had to be in private to talk.

"Did you kill Roy" He asked bluntly. Jim looked at him shocked. Shocked that Dwight already suspected him and socked that he would even ask. Jim figured that if Dwight confronted him about it he would just say he figured it out.

"What are you talking about?"

"I saw a gun and bloody jacket in your car."

"Why were you in my car Dwight?"

"I had to investigate. So did you or did you not kill Roy, Jim?"

Jim broke eye contact, looking at the ground and sighed."There's more to it than that."

"Like what?"

"He was threatening Pam" Jim looked up to meet Dwight's eyes. Dwight could see how scared Jim was to talk to him. Jim took a deep breath and continued

"He was following her and she didn't feel safe anywhere. I had to do what I had to do. You of all people should understand Dwight" Everyone knows about his weapons hidden around the office that have had to be removed several times. He would never be able to kill someone though.

"Jim, in five minutes I am calling the police." Dwight said before he walked back to his desk.

As soon as Dwight was out of ear shot Jim pulled out his phone and called Pam.

"Hey, we gotta go like now."

Chapter 2

Summary:

Jim and Pam leave Scranton before they can be caught.

Chapter Text

Pam was organizing some files at her desk when her phone rang.

"Dunder Mifflin, this is-"

"We have to go, now"

Pam hung up the phone trying to look as calm as possible and went to Micheal's office to tell him that she was leaving early.

"Be safe out there Pam, there's a murderer on the loose you know." he told her as she was leaving. She would have laughed at the irony of the response if she wasn't in such a hurry to leave.

She went to the elevator tapping her foot impatiently. When it opened, she pressed the ground floor button and close door button about five times before it closed.

She could tell something went wrong. Were the police already after them? Did someone know what happened?

The elevator opened and Pam ran to the car where Jim was already waiting for her, car already running. He started driving as soon as she got in the car.

"We should go home and grab some clothes" Pam suggested. She knew they were never going to be back in Scranton once they left and wanted to stop by her house and grab a few things.

"There's no time. Dwight has called the cops by now and they'll be looking for us. We just need to get to New York." Jim knew time was important. They needed to leave before the police could connect him to the murder, which probably won't be long. The guy that just got kill ex fiance just got a new boyfriend.

Even Jim had to admit it would be crazy if they didn't expect him first.

They turn the radio to a news station to hear if anyone is looking for them.

The drive to New York is about two hours. Everything was looking good for them until about 45 minutes in to the drive.

"Drivers look out for a grey 2005 Aero belonging to Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly. Both are suspected for the murder of Roy Anderson, Beesly's ex fiance." the reporter on the radio says. Pam and Jim shared a look of worry. Jim started going a little faster.

"I was going to get us a nice hotel but do you think one in Brooklyn will be ok?" Jim asked trying not to sound as panicked as he was feeling.

"Anywhere is fine as long as we're together" Pam knew it sounded cheesy and it was. But it was also very true. All they have are each other now.

They managed to get to hotel in Brooklyn without being caught. The hotel was a Springfield, not as nice as what Jim hoped for but not horrible either. It was late so they ordered some room service.

The food got to their room and they started discussing what they're going to do.

"I think that we should try to get fake IDs" Jim offered."I know a guy that did them in high school. They seem easy enough to make, I just need to find a printer."

"That's a good idea. Tomorrow I'll go to a store and pick up some food and new clothes."

They finished eating and got ready for bed. They used toothbrushes from the hotel and slept in the clothes they came in. Then they got in the queen size bed and went to sleep ready to face tomorrow together.

Jake got into work for the morning briefing late, as usual.

"Sorry I'm late guys, my car wouldn't start and I had to walk three miles to get here." He sat down next to Charles ready to hear what they would be doing today.

"As I was saying, Peralta and Diaz will go to the Springfield and do door duty. You two are looking for Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly who are murder suspects in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Witnesses say they saw their car parked there." Holt told them. He dismissed the squad and they got to work.

Rosa and Jake got to the car and started going over the case and what they knew about their suspects.

"Apparently the victim was stalking Beesly, his ex and the new guy got jealous and killed him." Rosa said. She had been going over the case file while Jake drove to the hotel.

When they got there they started speaking to some of the workers to see if they had seen Jim and Pam.

"Yeah I saw them last night. I don't think they ever left." One maid told them as she was cleaning up food from breakfast."They came down for food then went back upstairs"

Jake and Rosa thanked her for the help then went to the front desk to get the room number.

They knocked on the door and Jim answered the door thinking it was room service.

"We don't need the room clean...umm can I help you guys" Jim said as he opened the door realizing it wasn't hotel staff. Jake and Rosa both noticed how his body language changed. Jim became more tense when he realized cops were at his door. Pam came around the corner to see who was at the door and froze when she saw cops.

"Hello Mr. Halpert, I'm Detective Peralta this is my partner Detective Diaz. We are going to need you and Ms. Beesly to come with us for questioning." Jake told them.

"Can I ask what this is about?" Pam asked trying not to let them see how nervous she was.

"You two are suspected for the murder of Roy Anderson." Rosa told them. "Like Detective Peralta said you two need to come with us."

The four of them left the hotel in a cop car. They arrived to the precinct and the two detectives took Jim and Pam to the interrogation room.

"Do you think they did it" Jake asked Rosa as they watched them from behind the two way glass.

"Definitely. I get it though. She was in danger he was protecting her. It's a violent Nancy Myers movie."

"Yeah cool motive still murder." Jake said before he went inside the room to talk to Jim and Pam.

"Look we know you guys did it just confess. It will make it a lot easier for all of us."Jake pleaded with them. Him and Amy had dinner plans and he really didn't want to cancel on her.

That just sat in silence for a few moments before Jim started talking."She didn't have anything to do with this ok. It was all me."

Pam looked at him horrified at what he was saying. This was not apart of their plan at all. "Jim! What are you doing?"

Jim just smiled at her knowing that he was doing the right thing. "Do you a significant other detective?" Jim asked Jake.

"Yeah my girlfriend, but I don't see what that has to do with the case" the detective replied confused

"Then you know you would do anything to protect her. Roy was harassing Pam and she was not safe. This was the only way to stop him from hurting the person I love."

Jake could see that they both really loved each other and were telling the truth that Jim was trying to do the right thing. But he is also still a cop and murder is murder "Jim Halpert arrested for second degree murder. Pam Beesly you are arrested for withholding evidence in a police investigation"

He and Jim shared a look of understanding that Jake was trying to help out, even if all he could do is not try Pam for murder and only withholding evidence. It will get her less time in prison which at the end of the day, is all Jim wanted.

Rosa came out to help Jake book them, then they went back to their desks to file the paper work.

On his way back to his desk, Jake stopped in front of Amy's instead and kissed her. When they pulled back he whispered in her ear," Just because we're cops don't think I wouldn't kill for you Santiago."

"Right back at you Peralta." She replied before kissing him again.
