Work Text:
Gura knew Amelia had a... strange job.
While she was a streamer, she was also a time traveler, and she was also also a detective first. Put time traveler and detective together, and the blonde had a lot more variety in things she could do. The streamer part was a whole different thing, but it was still something that took time. So she knew that Amelia must be really, really tired at the end of each day.
That didn't mean she had to like that. And, well, it's not like the shark girl herself could really say anything - she was also a streamer, and she had some part time jobs here and there. But it was different!
She wasn't constantly throwing herself in danger like Amelia often did, and she didn't have that convenient excuse of 'having all the time' (stupid pocket watch).
Amelia was a moron, Gura would eventually come to realize after a few weeks of living with her.
A good-hearted moron who would probably threw herself in front of a world-ending catastrophe to save everyone, without regard for how devastated they'd be.
Gura hated it. She hated it, she hated it so much, she hated how much she loved that side of Amelia, the side that cared for everyone so deeply.
So anytime she snuck out her room for a midnight snack and found herself a sleeping blonde that didn't even make it to her own bedroom, Gura would feel her heart twist and turn.
She deserved better. Amelia deserved better. Gura believes, wholeheartedly, that Amelia deserved better.
But what the heck could she do? She was just a dumb shark girl. Just a brat freeloading her best friend's mansion.
The girl may be Atlantian, but her people had long perished. She wasn't even in the public spotlight, as the paparazzi would become too annoying, and her being known everywhere as the only survivor would just bring trouble to their doorstep.
Calli once jokingly said she'd make sure Amelia's death was peaceful and painless. That sounded like something to offer, at least.
Kiara offered to help the blonde become immortal if the latter ever wanted to. That was also something nice.
Ina was always there for her, she soothed her, she helped her learn more about the supernatural side of things, of cults, eldritch beings, the likes.
What did Gura have to offer? She didn't know.
She couldn't take Amelia to the ruins of Atlantis. There was no one left, and a lot of their cultural and traditional relics or monuments were destroyed.
Maybe offering to protect Amelia from danger, but literally everyone else here also did that. And that was to expected - after all, who the hell could befriend not just an Atlantian, but a grim reaper, a phoenix, and a cult priestess with the powers of an anomalous being? ...Amelia was a weirdo.
But the point was, Gura wanted to be able to give her something. Something, anything, she just wanted to help the detective live easier.
"Mmghhgh... no..."
Amelia's voice took back her attention. Gura tiptoed over to her, worried.
It seemed like the blonde was having nightmares. Or, at least, an unpleasant dream.
She looked around. What could she do? What could she do at all?
Waking Amelia up would be bad - that girl needed her sleep, seriously.
The others? No... waking them up just because Amelia had some bad dreams was... dumb. They'd probably be pissed at her and say she was too protective of Amelia. ...that, and she probably wouldn't be getting rid of the AmeSame allegations any time soon. Growling lightly in frustration, she rustled her own head.
Amelia twisted and turned a bit. One of her hand fell and hung to her side.
Gura stared. There was nothing else that she could do, so she did what she always did when she saw Amelia like this.
She gently put a hand in between Amelia's grasp, and held her tightly.
"...Ame," she whispered. "It's okay. I'm here for you."
Although the blonde didn't wake up, she slowly become less disturbed, and within a few seconds, the blonde was back to her normal resting face.
Gura let out a sigh of relief. Usually, holding Amelia's hand in her sleep did nothing, but evidently this helped get rid of her bad dreams.
However that worked. She'd have to ask Ina about that later. Or Amelia herself. Who knows?
Suddenly, a smile formed on Amelia's lips. Did her dream become good? Gura wondered.
And then, she felt Amelia squeeze her hand lightly. Her cheeks flushed.
"...dork." Gura smiled back, and sat on the ground, in front of the couch, in front of the detective.
She heard the detective breathing normally again, and chuckled to herself.
"G'night, Ame."
