A Rewriting of my old story: Home is Where the Heart is

Chapter Text

Heavy summer rain poured outside as Inko sat on the couch, watching the news with her son by her side, she wasn't paying it much attention as a lot was on her mind. She glanced at her son, Izuku, who seemed to be enamored by the heroes on the screen.

Izuku will be turning five in less than a month, which would normally worry Inko as she loved celebrating her son, but since he hasn't been showing any signs of a quirk yet, it left her feeling worried. Her own quirk, which allowed her to attract small objects, wasn't powerful and she feared that Izuku might be taking after her.

Rapid knocks on their front door snapped Inko out of her train of thought and she glanced at the clock on the wall. It showed to be a little after nine in the evening.
''Izuku, wait here'' She pushed her son back on the couch as she got up and went for the door. She looked through the peephole and all she saw was a tuft of red hair.
A chill ran down her spine, she only knew of one person with that hair color and she almost felt faint when she finally opened the door.
''Touya?'' The young teen was soaked from head to toe and was carrying a child that looked like Izuku's age.
''Auntie... please help... us'' the boy spoke as he stumbled forwards, Inko managing to just catch them. They felt cold and the rainwater was seeping into her clothing as she held them close.

''Izuku, grab me all the towels and blankets we have'' she shouted as she struggled with getting the door closed and hauling the two passed-out boys to the couch.
She gently took the fabrics from her son's arms and started to drape them around the boys, making sure to dry them off and squeezing the water out of their hair. She stopped for a second when she saw the scar on the young boy's face, she understood immediately why Touya had come here.

''Mommy...'' Her gaze turned to Izuku who looked at the boys on their couch, worry and anxiety clear on his face.
''Izuku, these boys' are a very special friends' children, we have to take care of them, will you help me do that?'' Izuku nodded and ran off towards his room. Inko got up and went through a closet with some of her husband's old clothes, they would be too big for Touya but they would be warmer.

Izuku came back with some of his clothes and a few of his favorite All Might toys, handing them to his mother.
''I'll share, that's what heroes do'' Inko ruffled her son's hair before grabbing the things Izuku had handed her. She made sure to change the youngest first, as they are more prone to colds when younger and placed one of the toys in the child's arms.
''Touya..?'' She tried to coax the teen to wake up but all that happened was a faint flutter of eyelids. She didn't really want to undress the teen without his permission but she also didn't want him to run a fever. With quick and determined hands, she quickly changed the teen's shirt and pants, she had once changed his diapers.

A harsh pounding could be heard on the door as soon as she had tucked the boys in warm blankets, but she knew instantly who it was. She told her son to stay put as she steeled herself to once more open the door.
''Todoroki, what a... unpleasant surprise'' she said through gritted teeth, blocking the open door with her body. Turquoise eyes glared down at her but she didn't let that shake her, she had never liked him and had it been up to her, Rei would have married a much better man.

''I know they are in there'' his voice was just as gruff as she had remembered.
''I don't know what you're talking about'' she turns up her nose at him, giving him the same icy glare that he was giving her. He stared at her for what felt like hours before turning and leaving.
''Mommy?'' Izuku appeared next to her as she closed the door, grabbing her skirt and looked between her and the door.
''That was a very bad man, Izuku'' She kneeled and took his hands, ''Never open the door for him unless I am home, understood?'' Izuku nodded and she picked him up, soon she wouldn't be able to do this.
She looked into the living room, seeing the two boys still sleeping soundly. She turned off the lights and went to put Izuku to bed, she would need to have a long discussion with Touya in the morning.

''Auntie?'' Touya entered the kitchen, Inko stood by the stove as she was preparing breakfast, turning to look at him.
''Touya, good morning'' She smiled at him and he ran to her, hugging her tightly as tears formed in his eyes. Inko stroked his hair, talking to him slowly and reaffirming that they were safe now.
Once he had calmed down, she sat him by the kitchen table with a cup of tea, having turned off the stove so she could talk to him.

''So, tell me, what happened?''
''Father he- he has never been the best father but he was never like.. like this...'' Touya squeezed the cup in his hands, staring into the brownish liquid.
''At first, I was jealous of Shoto, he was the perfect being in our father's eyes and stopped training me... it made me so angry that I almost attacked Shoto, but our mother stopped me'' Inko reached over and grabbed his hand as he was starting to shake.
''He pushed Shoto so hard, but all he wanted was to watch All Might and be with our mother... mother and father were fighting constantly about that, the arguments got worse and worse every time until... until mother just snapped and poured boiling water over Shoto because his eyes reminded her of fathers'' the young teen was crying again and Inko went and hugged him, pulling him close to her as she stroked his back.
''Mother didn't mean to, she loves Shoto! But father wouldn't listen and sent her to a mental institute'' Touya sobbed as he clung to Inko, as if he was scared that she would disappear too.
''So, I took Shoto and ran... Fuyumi and Natsuo... I left them there with him''

It took a while for Touya to calm down but he eventually did.
''Don't worry, once things have calmed down, I'm sure we can go and get them as well'' Inko reassured as she put a fresh cup of tea in front of him, that's when the two children entered the kitchen, holding hands. Shoto was still sniffling as if he had just cried and was holding tightly onto the All Might toy Izuku had handed Inko yesterday.
''Shoto was wondering where his brother was, so I showed him'' Izuku smiled at his mother.
''Thank you, Izuku'' she smiled at her son, watching as Shoto walked over to his older brother, who in turn picked him up and placed him on his lap.
''Right, Touya, this is my son, his name is Izuku and he'll be turning five soon'' Touya greeted Izuku with a gentle smile as Izuku waved at him.
''Shoto, this is Inko, our Godmother but we call her Auntie'' Shoto looked up at her shyly but waved at her with his free hand.

''I'm sure you boys must be hungry, how about we eat breakfast in the living room and watch some All Might cartoons'' Inko suggested with a knowing smile, making both Izuku and Shoto perk up. Izuku motioned for the other boys to follow him, he was a big boy now, so he knew how to turn on the TV all by himself.

Before heading over to continue breakfast, she picked up her phone and dialed a number she hadn't dialed in a while.
''Naomasa? Yeah, it's me'' she listened as the man on the other side of the phone exclaimed in surprise at receiving her call.
''Yeah it's fine, Izuku is doing fine as well... Listen, I have a situation I could use some help with...''
Inko walked into the living room with a tray filled with breakfast, watching as Shoto and Izuku cheered for All Might on the TV. Touya got up and helped Inko put everything on the coffee table, giving her a smile in thanks.
