Chapter 1: Prologue: Before the Beginning
Chapter Text
[26th May 197X, 8:16am, BERLINT GENERAL HOSPITAL]
The past few days were pleasant and peaceful for Loid Forger, a psychiatrist from the Berlint General Hospital. There were no extra missions, nor any suspicious activities from underground organizations. There were just normal patients and staffs, nothing else. There were no signs from Handler, either. Everything seemed normal.
‘But it was all too peaceful,’ he thought. And he’s correct.
Loid was walking in an overly quiet corridor. There were only rhythmic clicks from his oxfords and the rustling sounds of papers, which made everything feel intense. When he was turning the door handle, he’s more ensure that today would break the peaceful-days streak. And something worse would happen.
He sensed a terrifying aura when he just entered his office. It sent a chill down his spine as it was more suffocating than ever. The room was only filled with the natural lights from the window.
He turned on the lights and saw a middle-aged female sat on his chair with crossed arms, back-facing him and looking out the window. She was fully dressed in black, like the void her heart was in. She turned back slowly and glanced at Loid with her dull, blue eyes.
‘Twilight. Punctual as usual,’ Sylvia commented.
’Of course, Handler,’ Loid replied. He was correct again, there was no way Berlint would be that peaceful. But what happened? Was it so serious that Handler had to find him in person? Was it an extra mission, or something urgent?
’How’s your wife and daughter?’ Sylvia questioned.
’They were doing well.’
’You know I WASN”T asking that.’ Sylvia smiled slightly, yet her voice got lower and colder.
’How can I miss that?’ Loid thought to himself. He was an infamous spy, and the best one at westalis: Twilight. His disguises were perfect, not to mention his high intelligence made SSS harder just to find him. However, he was having operation Strix for 5 years already and it hadn't been completed yet, not to mention that he had just made such an easy and obvious mistake. Handler was asking about the mission.
’Apologies, Handler. They’re making good progress with the Desmonds.’
‘Twilight, don’t let your guard down. Also, there were changes with the Operation Strix.’
’What is it?’
’Donovan Desmond’s plans on starting a war is becoming more and more evident. We have to get him arrested in 1 year.’
’What?’ He couldn’t believe it. It had started 5 years ago and it wasn’t going great: Donovan had stopped attending public meetings after Demetrius’s graduation, Melinda’s relationship with her husband was unstable, not to mention how distant Damian was to his father, despite how much Damian idolized him.
‘Yes. Also, Donovan Desmond was also a part of the Apple project, and we had found a new and shocking news: the Apple project was also targeting and experimenting on humans. They tend to use them to threaten peace and order.’
’Fuck it.’ He thought the Apple project was just about those poor animals, but humans also?
‘Here is the known information. However, it was way harder to find than the previous animal version.’ Sylvia sighed. She dropped her head down and murmured something.
Loid ignored it and went on, ‘So the subjects haven’t been known yet, but one of them ran away a few years ago, known as subject 007.’
‘Yes. Since it was probably connected to Donovan, or even the National United Party, I want you to participate in stopping this project. Yet, we barely know a thing or two about it, so we may need Garden and even SSS’s help.
Garden? Isn’t it the name of a secret organization, which is full of abnormally strong assassins? Isn’t it just a myth? And SSS? WISE and SSS are supposed to be enemies, and SSS are chasing him!
‘Hand-Handler, it may be too risky-‘
’No Twilight. WISE, Garden and SSS may have to work together. That might be the only path,’ Sylvia added. She exhaled, ‘Are you worried about your family, or your daughter’s friends? I’ll take charge of it. Is that good enough for you?’
’No Handler.’
‘Good. Now I better take my leave. There were piles of things going on.’
She stood up quickly and turned towards the door. The clicking sounds of her heels were still choking him up nonetheless. The anxiety was giving him the chills.
‘Oh, Twilight, a reminder. Keep an eye on the Desmonds, excluding Damian. The other members are way more dangerous, compared to a 12-year-old child.’
‘Yes, Handler.’
’Good.’
She finally closed the door and left. Loid fell on the chair hastily and looked up at the ceiling. He deeply inhaled and sighed; it was worse than he thought.
It wasn’t going anywhere. The mission itself was painful already, but a human experiment? Everything’s fucked up. Donovan had a stable relationship with absolutely NO ONE at all, there were no opportunities for him to get to his circle, it wasn't going to work. It was too late for Anya and Damian to become imperial scholars, Donovan wasn’t attending anyway.
But if he failed, a catastrophic war would Break out and millions would have to get tortured and suffer like how he used to. He still remembered the piles of buildings and pipes: Everything was jangling, there were only crying sounds and gory looks of dead bodies. Everyone looked hopeless, there was only despair and agony. Any slight pieces of happiness were destroyed. All he could do was cry and shout. He knew how helpless he and others were, so he would never allow it to happen again.
He had to try no matter what. No one could break the vulnerable peace. Only over his dead body. He had to create a world without children crying and suffering.
’What a disaster,’ he muttered.
[10:31am, GARDEN’S HEADQUARTERS]
Can’t believe there’s such a beautiful garden: one full of vibrant colors from fascinating flowers and smells more fresh and mesmerizing as ever. The leaves were cut and shaped properly, along with no dirt being found in this perfect garden. Butterflies were dancing with birds singing beautifully, it was like an orchestra. It looked untrue and mythical like a dream.
It was more unbelievable to know that it was the center of Garden, an underground organization known as an urban legend.
‘Hello, Shopkeeper. The garden was still as pretty and perfect as ever.’ It came from a black-haired lady, styled with headbands and dressed in City Hall uniform.
‘Of course, Thorn Princess. It’s always clean and perfect, without any mistakes.’ A tall, brown-skinned man answered. ‘I will never allow dirt or any inaccuracies here.’ The Shopkeeper responded. His tone was calm and peaceful, yet it looked like it was covering something dark.
Yor Briar-Forger, known as the Thorn Princess, was an assassin under the Garden. Her strength and immunity to poison were inhuman, along with her incredible speed. There were no missions she couldn’t accomplish, as fighting 20 assassins was easy like a pie to her. Garden was just full of assassins like her: strong and powerful.
’The roses are just smelling fresh! Looking gorgeous and pleasing.’
’And those Irises, too. They stand out the most during this season.’
Yor bends her knees to observe the blossoming Irises. ‘I agree, Shopkeeper! They look fantastic-‘
She felt something was approaching her. She immediately jumped, did a backflip, then held the weapon from attacking her. It was a rake.
’It scares me!’
‘Looks like your skills haven’t dulled After you have a family. How reassuring. And apologies for this, I know it’s sudden.’
‘It’s okay, Shopkeeper. What do you call me for?’
’It was about the party your husband was in: National United Party.’
’Eeh? Did they do something wrong? Do I have to kill them?’
’Not yet. Actually, there’s some information about the N.U.P experimenting on humans, mainly children. But it’s not confirmed. The leader is unknown, and some guessed Donovan Desmond, the former leader of N.U.P. If they succeed, a catastrophic war can break out.’
Her eyes widened, ’That’s so cruel! Those poor children…I would be upset if my daughter was an experiment.’ She remembers her parents’ death during the war. That’s what they want to cause: sacrificing millions of citizens for themselves.
’You’re correct, Thorn Princess. There’s no mission for now, but I would like you to sound Melinda Desmond out. She should know something as his wife.’
’Oh, Melinda-san? I will try.’ She is so mysterious. It might be a hard task. I hope she doesn’t support her husband’s wrongdoings!
‘Also, if possible, you can ask your daughter about her friend. He is the second-son, right?’
"Oh, Damian-san? I heard from Anya-san that he idolizes him, but the relationship between them is distant. His father is such a bad person!
‘Anya-san mentioned that His father neglects him, I’m not sure if it’ll work.‘
’That’s fine. It’s better that they don’t have to get involved in this. They still don’t know how to cut the leaves, do they?’
’You are right, Shopkeeper. And those Asters look so fascinating!’
’Asters symbolizes wisdom. ..Speaking of it, we may have to cooperate with WISE and SSS if needed to stop the Apple Project. They are better at searching and gathering information, which makes it easier to stop them.’
’I’m glad we can put away our differences to stop such inhuman projects together. Oh! I think I’ve to go back now, others will get suspicious of me.’
‘Sure.’
This was the first time Yor over thought about those stuff. Why does Damian-san’s father have to do something brutal like this? Those children don't deserve to suffer like this! Do Melinda-san and Damian-san know about his plan? Will they support it? Oh, and this project is so serious that they have to work together? It's good news that they’re not enemies anymore, yet it means the project is more serious and horrible than anyone could’ve thought.
‘I just hope the kids are fine.’
[12:00nn, SSS HEADQUARTERS]
‘We may have to work with WISE.’
’WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT, CAPTAIN?’ Yuri hollered.
Yuri couldn’t believe this AT ALL. WISE and SSS had been ENEMIES since they had been established! Their core mission was to arrest the spies, so as to maintain the order of Ostania. WISE is one of the main targets, not to mention that the infamous spy, Twilight, is also under this malicious organization! They may hurt his perfect big sister! How could he allow this?
’Yuri, I know you’re probably mad right now. However, I want you to take a look at this,’ the Captain commanded and handed a black folder, with a label on it. The label says ‘TOP SECRET’.
Yuri was utterly shocked, knitting his eyebrows together and being unable to control his anger. Experimenting children only to use them as pawns? He threw the folder away, the sounds echoing around the dark room, only filling with light from the small lamp above the table. He slapped the table hard and shouted:
‘THEY HAVE TO GET ARRESTED.’
Ya Sure I torture the people but that’s because they deserve it; yet that’s clearly a different case when it comes to innocent children. Sis loves children, she’d be so upset if she ever knew about this! And it’s threatening the order of Ostania. And a war will break out, when sis may be sad, or even die!
The captain picked up the folder and groaned threateningly, ‘Yuri Briar, that’s not good behavior as a SSS officer.’
’Sorry, captain.’
’However, I can see why. And that’s the reason we have to be with WISE this time. We currently have a common enemy, which has to be taken down right now. WISE may have more information about N.U.P.’
’Wait, N.U.P as in the National United Party?’
The captain nodded.
I heard that something’s going wrong with the N.U.P, but that’s far worse! That might be related to Donovan Desmond, he became the president again a few months ago! Wait, I remember the Chihuahua girl is friends with his son… Will my sis be in danger?
His sister could be directly involved in this ridiculous situation.
His sister raised him since the death of their parents. She was perfect, she couldn’t be dragged to this. No matter what, if cooperating with WISE means being able to save children and his sister, then he wouldn’t mind. He’s okay with all the dirty work, as long as sis is okay.
’Tch, Fine.’
’Good. I’ll tell you when there’s work related to it. We may also have to cooperate with other organizations, such as Garden.’
’I thought it’s just an urban legend?’
’There are actually records of them, but very few.’
’That’s breaking news. Now I have to interrogate the leader of a terrorist organization, may you excuse me.’
Yuri clenched his fists and scowled. The corridor echoed with the tramp of his feet, along with the rapid heartbeat of his due to the anger. He is determined to save the children from the scientists. Also, sis would be proud of him! This reward was more than anything.
He had to save them.
[15:00, BERLINT GENERAL HOSPITAL]
The building collapsed in front of him.
It was as loud as the ones he had met when he was ten. The sky was bat-black and blood covered the floor, the walls, the citizens. People were pinned down under piles of rubbles and buildings, screaming for the help that probably wouldn’t come. He was still standing at the center of a broken road, unable to move his limbs due to extreme shock. He kept inhaling and exhaling, trying to calm himself down yet couldn’t. He was just a weak mouse that couldn’t do anything besides crying And screaming, with a huge mix of emotions that had been suppressed since he became a spy, including fear, anger, sadness, despair, frustration, guilt, grief and loneliness.
‘Papa…’ someone coughed, it seemed like that person was dying.
He finally moved after the shock. He ran as fast as he could, despite the injuries causing immense pain.
It was from a girl. With iconic pink hair and recognisable black horns.
‘An…Anya…’
He was completely soaked in hopelessness. Anya struggled to breathe and speak, with Loid being more furious than he had ever been, like a tiger when it lost its most precious territory. He held her tightly and tried to pull her away when he felt a weak force that was holding Anya.
’Loid…Loid-san…’
’Yor! Are-are you ok?’
’I don’t- know, Loi-Loid-san…’
He was going crazy. His guilt and grief doubled when Yor was struggling to reach her hands up to touch Anya and Loid. Her eyes were shimmering and let out the last smile before the breath and weak heartbeat stopped, with her smile halted,
’Mama…’ Anya’s eyes started getting puffy and red, with a great sob escaping her. Loid kept sniffing his nose, trying to hold his emotions.
’Papa…how could you. I thought you ca- can save us…’
Yor! Anya! Yes, I was able to save them! They wouldn’t have to suffer if I came here earlier… No, they won't even get hurt if I succeed in my mission. It’s my fault, it’s ALL my fault…Wait, where’s Bond? Where was he? He rotated his head around but he still couldn’t find him. Oh shit…
‘DONOVAN DESMOND, I WILL KILL YOU, I WILL GET MY REVENGE.’ His face was red, filled with anger with his fists clenching.
Donovan was standing in front of him and his lost family, not showing any signs of regret.
Blinded by Anger, Loid took out his gun and intended to shoot him when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his stomach, which woke him up from the nightmare.
So it was just a nightmare.
He kept breathing to freshen himself up from the nightmare that filled with fear. Although it was a dream, the grief and anger still hadn’t escaped. He had to protect Anya, Yor and other children from the war—the grief, fear and anger motivated him to become a spy, that’s also the reason he is here now.
He stood up from his chair and stepped towards the window. From the window, he could see cheerful children chasing each other, their parents chatting to each other and flowers blooming. It looks beautiful that Twilight found himself more determined to protect this precious view from wars and battles.
I will never let you hurt my family, your family or the citizens. Me, Twilight, will surely prevent you from succeeding with your plan. I will do all the work. Yor, Anya, Bond, Damian or the others, including those vulnerable children will definitely be safe. If you want to kill them, OVER MY DEAD BODY.
’Apple project, Donovan Desmond, you’ll never reach your goal.’
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
However, he will never be alone. They will protect him too. And who says that children must be vulnerable?
Chapter 2: Bond was lost!

Chapter Text
[1st JUNE, 3:12pm, AT THE FORGERS]
The 1st of June may not be a peaceful day, but it’s definitely one at the Forgers. Anya was doing her homework reluctantly like usual, with Yor just coming back from shopping while Bond was chilling on the floor, probably daydreaming.
Bond felt bored and wanted to play with Anya when Yor called Bond.
’I’m sorry, Bond-san, I forgot to buy dog food when I was doing my shopping and we’re running out of it,’ Yor apologied.
Bond firstly didn’t mind at all, but then Yor continued and sighed, ‘I may have to cook your dinner this time then, as Loid-san will be late today.’
Borf. (Oh no.)
A scene popped out from his mind, which seems to be his prediction: Yor was done with his dinner for today's, but it was purple and red, with unknown-and-totally-not-dangerous ingredients in it. Looking at the so-called ‘food’ and Yor’s huge,genuine smile, he was absolutely terrified. Her cooking skills had improved,but that’s definitely not the case for dog food! After a few minutes, he saw himself collapsing on the floor and struggling to say his last words. However, Yor might kill him brutally if he refuses to eat it, and he didn’t want to make Yor feel upset, she’s trying to improve after all. Oh no, he’s dead. He wouldn’t survive.
He started shaking unintentionally and cowering, and Yor sadly didn’t notice it. He tried to find a solution without his death occurring because of Yor’s terrible cooking.
He wanted to find Anya so he decided to borf in front of the door, she might be his only saving grace in this situation. Yet, when he thought Anya could save him, she had to do her homework, so she basically ignored his thoughts.
‘Bond, Anya has to do her homework. Go away,’ she sighed.
That’s worse. He panicked and ran around the house, trying to object to Yor's decision. Well, she wasn’t an expert at dogs, therefore she couldn’t understand. She thought Bond was delighted about her making the dinner.
Nothing works. But he has to survive!
Well, just like the previous one, if Loid came home early tonight, then he could eat some normal dog food instead of the ones that made him collapse on the floor and end his own life. Well, how could he open the door?
When Bond was struggling to find a proper solution, someone knocked on the door. This was the right time!
Yor replied to the sound, ‘Coming!’
He was next to her when she opened the door, preparing himself to run like how the athletes in the Olympics did. Then, he caught the right timing and ran out of the house, which leaves Yor and the neighbor shocked.
’Wait Bond! BOND-SAN!’
’You have to call your husband for this! I couldn’t see him!’ The neighbour shouted to Yor while running out of the building to look for Bond.
Yor quivers in fear and terror. She couldn’t find Bond if there were no directions, no matter how fast and inhumanly strong she is! She also ran out of the building, but Bond disappeared on the street already.
Anya heard her thoughts and followed her mother. She started sobbing, ‘Mama, where is Bond?’ She couldn’t control herself from crying out loud. She heavily regretted ignoring Bond, if she didn’t ignore him then he wouldn’t run away. She was soaked in fear much like Yor does, then her brain was suddenly filled with the thoughts of people—a crowd was coming from the left! She was unable to read Bond’s thoughts with the amount of people.
She then felt a sharp pain from her head, which caused herself to fall. ‘Bond… Where are you…’ she spoke weakly before she fainted because of the crowd and Bond.
Yor ran to Anya, ‘Anya-san! Are you okay?’ Oh no, Anya-san fainted! Bond-san is not here and Anya-san is sick, what should I do? Loid-san will scold me for not being a good wife! Will he kick me out? No no no Bond-san please come back!! She couldn’t think of a solution, not even anything besides panicking.
The neighbour was next to her, she questioned, ‘Mrs Forger, can you solve it? I received an emergency call just now.’
Yor didn’t want her to use her time so she said she will be okay. Yet, this situation was so serious that she couldn’t choose not to call Loid. She exhaled and accepted the worst ending, then phoned Loid.
’Loid-san???’
’Yes, Yor?’
’Bond-san ran away from her house! Anya-san also fainted! Loid-san what shouldddddddd I doooooo? I am sooorrrryyyyyy!!!!’ Her voice was shaking.
God damnit, Loid thought. ‘Umm, don’t worry, Yor. I will call the police. And again, please don’t worry about it. I’m sure Bond will be founded soon.’
’Thanks, Loid.’
‘It’s fine, I will complete my work as soon as possible so that we can find Bond together.’
‘Okay, see you. I will call you if we can find Bond-san.’
Yor ended the call and heaved a sigh of slight relief. I hope the police can find Bond-san, and Anya-san can be okay. It wasn’t a peaceful day at all.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Bond was lost.
His survival instincts had kicked in, all he could do was keep running for his life like how a prey did to escape from its predators, running into the pedestrians in the process, yet he just ignored them even if they yelled at him for bumping into them. When he finally stopped panicking and settled down, he found himself in an unfamiliar place; he wandered and looked around, trying to pay attention to the roads that might lead him to his home, but he found none. He barfed and yet no one replied to him, neither Anya, Yor nor Loid.
He felt his stomach screaming and begging for food, thanks to his long run. Nonetheless, there was no food nearby! And he couldn’t find the way home. Did he have to become a stray dog, which has to search for food just to survive everyday?
Bond was currently sitting in front of the fountain. The fountain spurred water to a height of several meters, which let the water reflect him: the fur was light brown and dirtier, parts of it was wet due to the water that was accidentally sprayed on him.
Bond reflected his memories About how he met the Forgers: He had been tortured in a facility before, he still remembered how the electricity passed through every single nerve of his body and how the chemicals flowed through the veins. He was dying and almost did, but then Anya appeared. They helped each other escape from the terrorists. They were about to get captured, but luckily, Yor appeared. She kicked the bad guys in the face and they fainted. That’s how he was recused. Not to mention that Loid and Handler were the ones that allow him to live with the Forgers, and let him continue his life with Anya.
He literally was about to give up and accept his fate when a scene came into his brain: He was behind a boy, and the boy was in front of Anya and Yor. Anya hugged him and the boy, while Yor said something to the boy, which she seemed to be thanking him. Maybe the boy helped him!
However, he didn’t remember much about the boy’s details. He could only remember that he was slightly taller than Anya, with black hair, amber eyes, and dressed in a beige sweater.
Based on his intuitions, he chose the right direction and started walking, starting to search for the boy that could save him from the huge trouble that he had caused. He stopped by a huge building, which is called ”NATIONAL LIBRARY”.
————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
‘Finally some me-time. Emile and Ewen always follow me to everywhere.’
Damian couldn’t be more glad that he could study in the library outside the campus alone. And sure he likes Ewen and Emile, but he really needs some time for himself. They sometimes made decisions for him without his consent like the gala 5 years ago, which annoys him a little.
‘It’s 5pm already, I should go back to the dorms,’ he murmured. He didn’t want to leave, yet he had promised his teacher that he’d be back by 5:30pm. He ended up borrowing a few history books, he was literally the biggest History lover after all.
He walked out of the library and stretched himself slightly when he met the dog covered in dust.
’Ehh? How is a stray dog in front of the library?’ He questioned himself.
Meanwhile, Bond turned to him and noticed his features: Slightly taller than Anya, black hair, amber eyes, and beige sweater. It’s him! The saving grace!
He ran into the boy, jumping, barfing and accidentally pushed Damian to the floor.
‘Wait wait wait! What the hell are you doing, stray dog? Go away, you aren’t supposed to touch a member of Desmond's family without my consent!’
Bond ignored him, but he only barfed in front of him now. He desperately hoped that the person in front of him could recognize that he terribly needed help. Sadly, it didn’t seem like it.
’Stay away from me! God damnit, now my clothes are all dirty!’
Bond stopped barfing and lies on the floor instead. It seems like he was begging the boy.
Eh? Does the stray dog need my help? He seems dirty, but not as thin and dirty as the normal strays… Could he get lost from his owner? And why does he look so familiar, have I met him? Wait…
[FLASHBACK, 3 YEARS AGO]
There was homework about introducing a pet or an animal. Students have to present in front of the class.
’The next one is Anya Forger.’ Mr. Henderson stated.
Anya walked at the front, standing in the middle. Becky encouraged her silently while Damian smiled at her subconsciously. She exhaled hard to calm herself down. Then she began:
‘My dog is called Bond, Bond Forger. He is Great Pyrenees, with white fur and a black bow tie. He is also very huge, so I can ride on him comfortably! He loves eating papa’s cooking and a special brand of dog food. I met him when he was still a stray dog. Me and mama felt bad for him, so we adopted him…’
’Pfft. No better than Max, he is a Desmond, not a commoner.’ He thought. He was clear that Anya glanced at him.
‘Well, may I take my turn then, Mr Henderson?’ He asked.
He agreed, so Damian went to the stage confidently, then started his so-perfect presentation.
…
’Look, Stubby legs, it seems like that my dog is better than yours. The whole class clapped when I finished.’
’All lies! My dog is the best but Anya’s is definitely better than yours!’ Becky objected bitterly.
‘Damian-sama’s dog is always the best! Stop denying it, freak!’ Emile and Ewen defended him.
Anya ignored him, ‘Tch. Let’s go Becky, Sy-on boy is such a jerk.’
That caught him off guard, he thought Anya was gonna start a debate with him by agreeing with Becky and talking back to him. Well he didn’t mind, his dog was obviously the best. But a huge dog with white fur? Her dog may look very fluffy and adorable…
[END OF FLASHBACK]
He looked over at the dog and paid attention to the details. Well, white fur, huge, Great Pyrenees, black bow tie… It was clear.
’WAIT, BOND? IS THAT YOU?’
He figured his name out! Bond was over the moon, he jumped to Damian, which made him fall again.
’WHY ARE YOU HERE? Aren’t you supposed to be at the Forgers? Or you got lost?’
Bond barfed.
’…I will take that as a yes.’ You’re way more intelligent than I thought, not gonna lie.’ He admitted. Just like I thought when I was 8, he looked fluffy and adorable… But eww, the dirt and dust in his body, maybe I will hug him later.
He touched Bond’s head to calm the doggo down first, despite feeling disgusted by the dirt and dust in the fur. ‘Well, I think I know the way to Forgers. Probably should give the uggo a surprise, tsk.’
A surprise? Sounds good for Bond. He basically ignored Damian calling Anya an ‘uggo’.
…
There was only silence during their walk. Damian found Bond pretty adorable, just like how Anya mentioned.
He chose to break the silence, ‘Hey, Bond right?’
’Borf.’
’Well, barf once if yes, and twice if no. Understand?’
’Borf!’
’Good, you’ve reached Max’s intelligence. Hmm… Well, did you forget to find your family when you're out playing, so you got lost?’
‘Borf borf’
“Umm… Well don't tell me you purposely run away from them?’
Bond silenced. He did run away from them but he regretted it. He dropped his head and stopped walking.
‘Oh. Well, it seems like you regretted it? Was it because of Anya?’
‘Borf borf’
‘I guess it’s Mrs. Forger, Mr. Forger is too perfect to make you want to run away,’
‘Borf’
‘Well, of course I’m correct, I’m the almighty Damian Desmond after all. Hmm… Did you just meander around the place And just happen to be here, or you’re here to get help? Barf once for the first choice and twice for the second,’
’Borf borf’
‘The second, huh? Smart and lucky of you to be able to find me,’ he praised Bond jokingly.
Silence was back again. He looked at Bond, examining every detail of him. He realized that Bond may have dirt and dust stuck in the fur, yet he seems to be taken care of very well. Anya’s family loves Bond and cares about him a lot, right?
‘Hey Bond…Do you think your family loves you? And…care about you?’ He hesitated a lot when trying to ask.
’Borf!’ Bond barfed without hesitation, reacted way faster than Damian had expected.
’It must’ve been nice,isn’t it?…’ Damian replied. She’s a commoner, and yet her family sounds better. Even a dog can feel their love and affection so heavily that he doesn’t even need to think.
He just realized that he exposed himself to the dog. ‘WAIT, DON’T REMEMBER THIS, IT”S ALL FAKE ARRRRRRRRR!!!!!!,’
But Bond would never forget it. He knew what it’s like to be neglected and abused, without anyone protecting you and being there for you. He leaned himself close to the boy, trying to comfort him.
’GO AWAY, DON’T TOUCH ME,’ Damian looked offended, but also more pleased after he felt the warmth from Bond. ‘Uh, thanks? But stop.’ He sighed exasperatingly.
‘Borf.’
’Oh wait, I think stubby legs’ house is near. Be glad that it doesn’t take hours, dog,’
Bond didn’t reply, instead he ran towards the lady with red sweater and black hair, ecstatically.
Oh, that’s Mrs Forger, Damian mouthed.
’Oh Bond-san!!!! I was petrified when you’re gone! I’m thankful you’re here,’ Yor cried.
Bond went towards Damian and turned around, showing Yor the boy who led him to here.
Yor’s eyes followed Bond and saw Damian, who was standing a few steps away. ‘Oh, I think I saw you before, are you Anya’s classmate? And are you the one who helps Bond?’
’Uhh, yes Mrs. Forger. I am Damian. Also yeah, I saw Bond outside of the National Library and recognised him.’
’Oh my, thanks a lot Damian-san! I couldn’t be more startled when Bond went missing.’
’It’s fine.’
Loid heard the sounds of Yor so he came up. ‘Oh Damian, right? Thanks for finding Bond, we’re incredibly grateful about it,’
’No problem- Wait, it’s late! I can’t make it in time for dinner! Damnit,’ his sounds got a lot lower when he looked at his watch that it’s inaudible, but Loid read his words using lip reading.
‘Oh wait, it’s 7pm already. I remember that Eden’s dinner start at 7:15pm?’ That’s a great chance to get close, Twilight. I couldn’t miss it.
‘Yes, it is.’
’Why don’t you come over to us and stay here tonight? I’ll phone Mr. Henderson about it,’ Loid suggested.
’No thanks-‘
’I think it’s better. With your reputation and age, I’m afraid you’re prone to the dangers when you’re outside at night. I also want to thank you for finding Bond. Anya was so frightened and worried that she fainted! I’m pretty sure she will be pleased when she knows you find him.’
Damian couldn’t hold his decision when Loid mentioned Anya. She fainted? How is she now, is she ok? No no no, I shouldn’t care about this peasant. But she fainted! I want to see if she’s alright. But no, I'm a part of the Desmonds! There is no way I will care about that short girl. But I wonder how she’s doing!
Damian’s mind had a war between Anya and his pride. Well, Anya won.
Ugh, fine. ‘Sure,’ he answered after the battle that lasts for a minute or two.
‘Good to hear. We have a guest room here, you can sleep there. Yor will show you as I will cook dinner tonight,’
’Okay, thanks.’ I heard that Mr. Forger cooks pretty well, let’s see if he can cook better than the chef at Eden academy, or the one at Desmond’s estate. He smugged.
‘Come inside and make yourself at home!’ Yor enthused, feeling exhilarated to have her daughter’s friend as a guest.
’Thanks.’
Damian followed Yor to their house. The 1st of June may have a rollercoaster of events, but hey, at least it landed on a peaceful note.
Notes:
Fun fact: Damian had gone to Anya’s house for a project, but Loid took Bond out for a walk. That’s why he knows the way to her house, but not how her dog looks.

Chapter Text
[7:05PM, AT THE FORGERS]
‘That's the guest room, Damian-san. I’m sure this one is really simple and minimalistic, but I hope you’re comfortable,’ Yor introduced to Damian, a radiant and beaming smile playing across her lips. ‘It was genuine,’ Damian realized. His family and classmates’ smiles were fake and rictus, they were so obvious that he could observe it easily.
‘Ah, that's fine. I should thank you for letting me stay here overnight.’ He released another gentle, subtle smile.
The guest room was significantly smaller than his dorm. The boy didn't really mind though, at least the room was clean, without any dust or dirt. The size and structure was similar to Anya’s room, with a single bed, a nightstand that has a lamp and a white table. The wall was painted with olive green, which was a color that he liked.
Unlike the dorms or Desmond Estate, he could feel some warmth coming from this place, maybe because of Anya's parents, especially Mrs. Forger. She's one of the most loving and considerate people he had met. She reminded him of Jeeves.
On the other hand, he was certain that his family wouldn’t even think about him, unlike the Forgers, who actually gave a shit about his safety. Loid was indeed correct, he might get kidnapped or threatened easily as a trust fund baby, especially the heir of the Desmond family. That's why he was working his ass off: to impress his father and family, so that they could pay a little attention to him. Even just a little.
He put down the books and stationary at the table opposite to the bed, sinking into the comfortable bed right after as if he forgot about everything. Then he heard a knock from the door when he was lying on the bed, trying to space out completely.
‘Damian-san. Are you ok now?’ Yor opened the door gently.
He responded politely, as if he was talking to the higher-ups, ‘I'm fine. Again, thanks for letting me stay over.’
‘Ahh, no need to thank me!’ Yor grinned. Her attitude was the opposite to the boy, she was like talking to a close friend of hers.
Damian hesitated and bit his lips.
Should I ask about Anya? It will lose the demeanor of a Desmond, nonetheless he couldn’t be more worried about her. He sat on the bed and stared at the floor, still unable to decide if he should ask.
‘Damian-san? Well, do you want to see Anya?’ Yor suggested. Damian-san looks like he's thinking about something… Oh, maybe it's Anya-san! He must have felt distressed because she fainted! Such a caring and sweet child.
He reassured, feeling glad that Yor mentioned about Anya. ‘Well, sure,’ he responded calmly, trying to hide his enthusiasm.
~~~~
‘Anya? Are you awake?’
‘I'm, mama. Wait, where’s Bond?’ Anya had just woken up from resting, still anxious about Bond going missing. Her tears started falling, still sniffling between words.
‘Ah, we found him! No worries, dear.’ I'm glad that Damian-san found him. I would be dead if he didn't!”
Anya didn’t read her mind as she was just awake, which caused her to not be entirely conscious. However, she was ecstatic and relieved when she heard that her lovely dog was founded.
‘Her mouth splitter to a huge, sweet smile,
her eyes sparkling with hope and excitement, feeling relieved. Yor almost didn't stop her from getting out of bed.
Then she saw Bond, who looked dirtier than usual, but Anya paid it no mind and hugged him like usual.
‘Bond, you're back!! Don’t ever leave Anya again…’ her tears from before fell apart, although it's out of happiness and relief this time.
Bond promised by barfing once. After a long, tight hug in this reunion, Yor interrupted, ‘Also, Anya, Damian-san was actually the one who brought Bond home! It was all thanks to him, Anya.’
‘Eh? EEEHHHHHHHH?’ Anya’s jaw dropped. Sy-on boy? Not in a million years will she think of him being the one who saved Bond. But she read Bond’s mind, he seemed to have admitted it!
‘Mama, where’s Sy-on boy? Anya has to thank him.’
‘Well, since it was late, we have decided to let him stay over!’
‘H- Hi Anya…’ he stuttered,blushing slightly, looking more shy than usual. Anya looked less pale than before, still lying on her bed with her pajamas.
Anya got out of the bed, smiling softly and spread her arms wide, pulling him in. ‘Thanks, Sy-on boy. Anya was so worried about Bond.’
Damian couldn’t help but hug back. In fact, he was quite shocked–he hadn't received such a warm, tight hug from anyone, if from someone then maybe Bond. He could feel the sincerity coming from her heart; he held her tighter, trying to feel what a “real hug” is like–he only knew it just now, because his family wouldn’t give him a hug like that. To him, it couldn't be more obvious that his family didn't love him. Even a smile or a hug could be so fake and frozen that he felt it since he was 8. He was even more concerned about the reason he only realized it a few years ago.
~~~
Damian still remembered that he had a nightmare when he was 4. He woke up at 2, still trying to process that it was just a dream–he had seen his family, lying on the floor. He was standing in front of them, with blood on his hands and under his feet.
He turned the knob of the door of his parent's room hesitantly. He was horrified because of his parents’ aura–it was terrifying, that he couldn’t even walk near them, as their son. And when he finally got his courage to say:
‘Father… mother, I am scared.’
He waited for their responses, his heart pumping hard and held his penguin doll tightly.
His father didn't lay an eye on him, staying still. while his mother walked to him slowly. She “comforted”, ‘Son, there's one year left till you attend Eden Academy. You can't be that reliant.’ To him, it was not comforting, he could only feel the annoyances and anger inside his parents.
~~~
He let go of Anya, slowly and a bit unwillingly. He looked at Anya, trying to examine her face when he saw that her eyes scowled and her lips bitten. It seemed like she could read his mind and feel bad for him. Her head dropped, looking like she was muttering something.
Before he could think, Yor broke the silence, ‘Aww, the hug was so cute!’ Her eyes sparkled.
’Dinner is ready!’ Loid announced before Damian reacted.
[8:00PM]
Oh wow, Damian whispered. The dishes couldn’t look more appetizing than ever–even the ones from his chef have to kneel before Mr. Forger.
Anya was obviously the most excited out of 4. She rushed to the chair as she picked up the spoon immediately.
Stubby legs is still stupid as usual. Damian thought. Anya turned around and gave him a stare, which shocked him a bit.
Loid smiled at Anya’s actions, then reminded her, ‘Don’t eat too fast, Anya. You may get choked.’ Anya nodded, not paying full attention to her father’s words.
What a nice father, the boy muttered. Why does her family never care about those table manners? Him, as a kid from the upper class, had never seen this before. Was that something commoners usually do?
He sat at the remaining seat, getting a bit nervous unlike the atmosphere.
‘Anya, have you done your homework yet?’ Loid asked for her progress.
’I have only done half of them,’ Anya whined.
It’s the last few days of the break, Damian thought. He had done all of his homework and was doing revisions already, and this girl still hasn’t done her own yet? Her parents will scold her for sure.
’Oh, it’s ok. I will do it with you,’ Loid reassured Anya with a smile.
Looks like they didn’t scold her, how odd. And not to mention that her father can sacrifice his precious time to tutor her, how great. Damian crossed his arms.
The boy questioned, trying to hide his envy, ‘Mr. Forger, the break is almost over. I thought she should complete her homework today?’
Loid was confused for a bit, then replied instantly, ‘Well, I don’t think we should be too harsh on her. It’s fine as long as she has done her homework before school. I think it’s already good that she can attend Eden Academy.’
Oh. How lenient. Damian kept his voice down, but Loid heard it. It was confirmed that the Desmonds were strict, which is probably normal due to the reputation.
Before he wanted to speak, Yor spoke first. ‘I know right! Damian-san, it’s already excellent for you to be able to attend such a prestigious school. Don’t be too harsh on yourself! Also, I heard from Anya that you’re a smart kid! How admirable! ’
It was sincere. Damian had figured out many fake dialogues or praises, and yet he couldn’t find any loopholes. Her posture and face were natural. But no, it was not admirable. I have to be an imperial scholar, and having this as a goal is so pathetic. It brings nothing but shame. He couldn’t even live up to his last name. ‘Ehm, thanks I guess. It was nothing important.’
Anya objected, ‘What do you mean? You’re smart enough to be a smart kid in one of the best schools in Berlint, or even the whole of Ostania!’ Her face looked a bit mad, then turned to a mix of anger and compassion, ‘No seriously, your parents were so strict, they have to be grateful to have a son like you.’
That’s straightforward, Anya caught off Loid’s guard. Nonetheless, as much as he understands why the Desmonds are harsh on their descendants, he still has sympathy. He looked at the boy, with his eyelids dropped and dark circles around the lower part of his eyes. ‘He hadn’t slept much, had he?’
’Damian, you’re just 12. Please get enough sleep at this age, you can’t hide your weariness. Your black circles aren’t helping you.’
Damian blushed a little out of embarrassment. ‘H-Hey! I’m fine. I don’t need you to order me. He was at a loss, not knowing how to reply to him. He hadn’t received a question about himself for years, besides Jeeves.
’Damian. You know I am a psychiatrist, right? Anya had introduced me because of homework. It couldn’t be more obvious that you are suffering from severe anxiety and insomnia. And from your previous reply, I’m sure that you are trying to hide your emotions and problems. In fact, I can observe more but I don’t want to expose your entire insecure self.’
Holy shit. His eyes widened in disbelief as his body backed away from the table. Was it really that easy to see? Yea sure he was a psychiatrist, however no one had exposed him before.
Loid’s face has softened, turning from concern to a commiserating smile, which Damian didn’t expect, ‘Damian, it is more obvious now. You have to take some rest. This is serious.’ He held the boy’s hand.
‘Ugh, fine I guess.’ he gave the runaround. Loid decided to ignore that, Damian was not even his own son, he didn’t have the right to intervene too much.
~~~
The silence was comfortable. It was relaxing, which made Damian a bit tired after everything happened.
On the other hand, he had found himself a bit too impolite towards Loid—he was frustrated but that didn’t excuse anything, he brought shame to the Desmonds again.
So, he exhaled as he apologized, avoiding eye-contact, ‘Mr. Forger. Well, I want to apologize for being rude to you. I should’ve been better than this.’
The relaxed Twilight was caught off guard—the boy, who had been an arrogant, nasty boy once, just apologized all of a sudden. For him, he didn’t find it neither rude nor disrespectful, he was just acting more like himself, and Loid didn’t want him to act. ‘ Oh no, it’s always fine. Just make yourself at home and be yourself, hadn’t I said it? I don’t find it offensive at all, I used to be like that at your age.’ He really was like that before. At least before the war.
Acting like myself? ‘T-thanks, I guess.’ He slightly bowed.
Yor stopped Damian from bowing. ‘Don’t bow to us! Treat us like your family, please.’ She blushed embarrassedly, holding Damian from bowing.
Loid had an idea. ‘Well, do you mind having a small talk with us? It’s really nothing, we just want to get to know my daughter’s classmates!’
What do they want to do? Approaching me for my father? But it’s impolite to not accept it. ‘Sure,’ he decided.
~~~
‘What do you want to ask?’ Damian started the conversation, crossing his arms and sitting on the couch.
’Hmm,’ Yor answered before Loid. ’What do you like to drink?’
’Huh?’ The boy was completely lost. Asking him his favorite drink? Instead of those ‘Can we get to know your parents’ questions? That was… new.
’Umm…Probably coffee. It’s needed if I want to study till 2am.’
’Eeh, study till 2am? Isn’t that stressful? Anya sleeps at 11pm and it’s not that early already.’
’It’s not enough.’
’Not enough for what?’
’…’
’Your family?’
’How did you know?’
’It was obvious.’
He just realized he spoke it out. He was a good liar, how come he said it out? ‘Tck.’ That’s all he could get out of his mouth.
Yor wanted to know more, so she asked, without hesitation, ‘Damian-san, how is your family like?’
’Rich, nice and all,’ he passive-aggressively responded.
’It’s not like that. Since Anya is watching Spy Wars, I will say it now. Is your family being extremely harsh to you? And your relationships-‘
’Shut. Up.’
’I won’t give up.’
’And why is that? Why are you treating me like your son-‘
’Because I understand. I want to help you.’ Yor answered instead. She held his hands, trying to be as gentle as possible. Her eyes were a bit red. ‘My parents died from war when I was little. I feel bad for you and Melinda-san. I understand what it’s like when your parents are barely there in your childhood.’
‘…Oh.’
’You don’t deserve to get treated like this. My parents were also absent, especially for my father. He was also strict and harsh.’
He senses great warmth from them. Empathy and compassion. He had worked his ass off just for his parents as he even sacrificed football practices, and the ones paying attention and affection were his classmate’s parents. He also loved Jeeves, but Jeeves had started assisting his father more, which made him way busier than ever before.
Which was more important? Blood or Bond? His family were connected deeply by blood, yet it didn’t affect anything, they were still distant as ever. He could only talk to his parents a few times per year. While he knew that Anya was adopted, they were close and intimate. He knew they were the opposite, and he admired her. He was desperate for his family to treat him like how hers did.
’Do I deserve it..? To get treated like this?’ He mouthed, silently.
’Of course you don’t-‘
’Yes.’
‘You should get treated like this.’
His eyes widened and pupils shrank as he turned around slowly, terrified of what’s behind him. It was his father. The tall, slim figure released a familiar yet horrifying aura, which made Damian step back out of fear. Then it was his mother, standing next to him, her eyes dulled as she raised her head slightly.
“H-Hey. Father, mother.”
“How’s your doing, my prince?” His mother spoke first as another cold, fake smile cracked out.
“I’m okay. I-I got 3 stellas from my past exam.” He was a bit choked up as he dropped his head.
“And you expect me to be satisfied with such rubbish?”
He knew. His parents would never be satisfied. His brother used to get 7 stellas, he ought to do better. How can he be over the moon by just getting 3 stellas? Pathetic.
“I am sorry for disappointing you.”
“You should be grateful that we are talking to you. You are just a stranger in my eyes unless you do some good results.” His father’s eyes shrank as he disdained him like a dirty, poor bug. His mother didn’t do any better, either.
“What a shame.” She slipped it out of her mouth. Damian knew the secret meaning behind: he is the shame. He brought nothing but shame and disappointment. His heartbeat became faster as he was trying to calm itself down by breathing deeply.
Some dialogues abruptly popped out. He didn’t know where they came from.
“Disgusting child”
“Shame”
“Disappointment”
“Pathetic”
“Dumb”
“Lazy”
”Woeful”
”All humans are strangers. They couldn’t be trusted. Even including this poor, pitiful child in front of me.”
His father walked towards him slowly, reaching his hand out from his back. Will there be praise or encouragement from him? Are all those dialogues fake?
He slapped him. It was hard, his cheek was swollen red. But why did I think his father would praise him? he thought. He was being pathetic again, of course he was such a loser, it was normal for him to be slapped. He choked again, tears rolling in his eyes, he couldn’t breathe as if something was preventing him to,
“I don’t want you to waste my time again.”
When Damian finally raised his head, there were no tracks of them left. The ones replacing them, standing there, were his classmates instead.
“Eh? He was that pathetic?”
“Such a shame to the Desmonds.”
“Why would I admire him?”
“It was pathetic for a boy like him to cry.”
“Be better for once, couldn’t he?”
“He should be ashamed of himself.”
“Demetrius is way better.”
“Why would I use him for money and power when he’s that pathetic?”
…
His tears rolled down rapidly, he couldn’t hold it anymore. His body was completely filled with dread and sorrow, he wanted to run away but he couldn’t. Sweats and tears poured down as he kneeled, his body being unable to even stand. Not even he could speak as his jaw trembled in fear, making it hard to say anything. He could only watch the others as he was numb with terror, his heartbeat became more and more rapid and his breath became more intense and unstable, even feeling a bit dizzy. He finally spoke, after a pathetically long time, “I am sorry. I am sorry I am sorry I am sorry I am sorry I am sorry I am sorry. I am pathetic.” He looked up on them as if he was begging for forgiveness.
“Please, forgive me. It’s my fault for bringing shame and being a disappointment. I am the worst. I am the worst. I’m sorry.”
He was feeling lightheaded and weak as his visions disfigured and blurred, he used up all of his strength to speak. “Forgive me please. I’m sorry.” He sounded weaker and weaker, using his remaining strength to reach his left hand as the others walked away, not even bearing to look back at him.
~~~
In reality, he was sitting still, like a statue. He burst into tears as his breath was tense and unable. Loid was the first one to react, he immediately held Damian gently. ‘Damian? Hey. HEY! Are you ok?’
Damian didn’t react to anything Loid said, or he couldn’t. His visions were blurry, the rapid heartbeat did not get any better. Before Yor could react to that, someone turned the door knob—it was Anya. ‘Sy-on, are you ok?’ She also ran fast towards him as she held his cheek. She couldn’t help but cry when she heard the thoughts, it reminded her of her past, when she was neglected and humiliated by everyone.
Yor also tried to examine the boy if he was ok. ‘Damian-san? Can you reply to me?’ Gosh what should I do?
Damian’s visions became more blurry as the lights were irritating him. His head felt painful as his mind was swirling and his breath became shallow but more frequent.
Loid yelled, ‘Anya, get a pillow and elevate his legs; Yor, can you get some water?’
They both tried to do it quickly, but it was a bit too late. Damian’s tears were still rolling down uncontrollably and breathing unstably until his eyes closed and his arms fell, his mind going unconscious.
’Damian? DAMIAN!!!’

Chapter Text
[27th May, 2:57AM]
He was standing on a football field.
It was his dream stage, he was desperate just to have a football match there. He could feel the others watching him, the gentle breeze that passed by, and the sunlight that was shining on him. He wished he could stay there forever and feel like he was free from all the stress at school.
‘Hey, Damian! Come play with us!’ One of his teammates from the football team stepped on the football and waved at him.
‘Sure.’ His smile became brighter, as he reached his right hand out and sprinted towards his teammates.
His right hand felt different all of a sudden, so he stopped and wanted to check what his hand was going on—a glitching hand. The colors were bright and vibrant and were changing all the time, which made his eyes bleed. Those incredibly disturbing and noisy sounds mixed with screams came next—He covered his ears yet he couldn’t control his right hand, it was moving on its own. He was only able to try tolerating the sounds that his ears were becoming more painful.
‘Pathetic kid.’
’Don’t be childish.’
’Useless’
’Worthless’
’Dumb’
Those dialogues were coming from every direction. He squinted his eyes slightly as he looked around to search for the exit. But he didn’t find any, he was completely covered by those sounds and colors, along with the hate and criticisms.
’FORGIVE ME! IT’S MY FAULT. I-I AM SORRY! PLEASE DON'T HURT ME.’ His cheek was in pain, just like when he was slapped. He sprinted across the never-ending space, his head turning around like crazy. ‘GET ME OUT OF HERE! PLEASE!’
‘This was your punishment. For being useless and dumb. And for bringing shame to your family. Pathetic child.’ The voice was his father’s. Every single word was like a stone that was breaking his heart.
‘I WILL DO BETTER, I PROMISE!!!’ He begged. He couldn’t hold his tears from running down as he kept apologizing non-stop. It was like a prey was begging the predator.
‘PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME. I WILL NOT BRING SHAME ANYMORE-‘
The environment had changed a ton. It went from the most disturbing scene ever to a room filled with warmth. His heart was still racing and he was still sweating nonetheless. W-where am I?
’Damian, glad you’re awake,’ Yor was right next to him. She slightly tilted her head, trying to examine his current status. ‘Are you ok?’
Damian didn’t answer, instead, he jumped out of bed. ‘I am sorry, I need to study right now-‘
’Rest now, Damian-san. You just woke up, and it’s like 3 am! Loid phoned your teacher about your condition so you can just stay here until tomorrow morning. And don’t bother to study right now, your health is way more important.’
‘Thanks, but I have to study-‘
I heard what you said when you had a nightmare.’
’…What?’ Did he say those things all out? Shit, now they know how weak and stupid I am. ‘I-I am sorry. It must have been tiring for you to take care of me.’
’Don’t say sorry again,’ Loid interrupted, ‘It was never your fault.’
’OF COURSE, it’s my fault!’ His tone was more harsh. Anya’s parents could have had a good sleep but it was ruined because of him. He was making things worse.
‘Please don’t blame yourself, Damian-san…’ He turned his head to where the sound came from—It was from Yor. She patted his head slightly as her eyes began to turn red. ‘Those horrible words from the others, it must have hurt.’
His eyes became like Yor’s and dropped his head to hide it. ‘Ya, they did.’He slipped out.
‘You are a quest, so we have the responsibility to take care of you. Loid may be practical and logical, but that didn’t mean he was lacking emotion. He could feel it, he knew exactly about life as a child with a strict parent. However, his condition was worse, his butler and friends were the only positive influences throughout his whole life. His life was surrounded by toxicity and abuse. He was different from the other spoiled rich kids.
’Damian-san, please listen to me.’ She embraced him with her wide arms, which made him left surprised. ‘I am so sorry to hear about how your life has been. Your parents must have been so unnecessarily harsh on you, and living behind your brother’s shadow is difficult. Please, you have done a great job no matter if you’re an imperial scholar. Don’t apologize, as a friend of your mother, I think she has treated you badly since I have known her. It’s their fault, not yours.’
’And remember when you’re being hijacked during an activity? You protect others by sacrificing yourself. It is something heroic, that rarely anyone can do it. You’re selfless, benevolent, and diligent, and that’s all it matters. Maybe I can’t fully understand your condition, but that’s what I think. Grades and your Parents don’t define you.’
Damian raised his head, looking at Yor like how a human saw an angel. She was someone who could appreciate his good traits, even if he didn't realize it. It would be good if she was my mother.
’Yor was correct.’ Loid continued Yor’s touching speech. His harsh eyes turned to relaxed and kind ones, with his expression softened as he packed the boy’s back. ’ If I am your father, I will be proud of you. You deserve to get treated with affection, attention, and love.’ Another speech.
’Would you like to tell us about your condition? We want to help you, and even if he can’t, you still can share with us.’
Damian didn’t want to at first, but those memories, flashbacks, and unknown emotions began to flood his mind. He couldn’t endure them alone, it was so hard that it made him nauseous and breathless. He looked at their worried faces with his head down, knowing that they would be the best listeners out of all the people that he knew. Jeeves was close to his father, while he had to maintain his composure with Emile and Ewen. He didn’t know about Anya, and Becky disliked him. The others were way worse. He had to, if he didn’t then he would have a panic attack again.
’…Fine. Only for the sake of my mental health.’
’My parents have been distant to me ever since I was born, or since I started memorizing things. I still had thought of trying to gain their attention, but it got weaker day by day. They barely praise me, and it can’t be more obvious that they do it so that I can still “love” them. ’ Damian began as he curled up his legs.
He continued, trying to bear the memories from crashing, ‘I remember that before I entered Eden, I sometimes couldn’t go out of my room, and the room turned dark often. “Are the door and lights broken?” I stupidly thought. Then, I knew that they locked me up in my bedroom to not let me annoy them. I was pathetic enough to be unaware of this. They slap me sometimes, and they either say “It is for your good” or apologize to me after that.’
Yor’s heart sank at this point. The feeling of being locked up in a dark room as a toddler was…unexplainable for her. She didn’t know how to describe it. However, the thoughts scared her and her tears began to roll down. ‘H-how horr-horrifying…’ She could barely speak fluently as his emotions seemed to be connected to her.
’That is abuse.’ Loid concluded. ‘Although they didn’t beat you up that much, they neglected you and abused you mentally. This is unforgivable.’
Abusing?Damian didn’t think that much of it. Wasn’t it just about his parents treating him badly?
‘Before you ask, yes it is. They have mistreated you by locking you up in a dark room and constantly ignoring your needs. Abusing doesn’t have to be physical. And mental abuse can destroy as much as physical abuse does.’ Loid added. He wanted to let the boy know that his parents were abusers, and he was the victim.
‘Also, Damian-san,’ Yor choked up a bit while talking. ‘I know that sounds weird and sudden as he didn’t know that much about each other, but we want to help you. If that sounds comfortable, maybe friends?’
Are they trying to take advantage of me? He couldn’t help but use his instincts, again. The scar was too deep, a calm night would not heal it. Maybe even not for this whole life.
’I know what you’re thinking.’ Loid’s expressions softened more, it was like when Anya passed her exams. ‘I know you have been through a lot, and a small won't help for now. I just hope you can depend on us, even just a bit.’ As a person with a harsh father, it saddens him when he knows about Damian’s condition. It was worse.
Maybe it will be better, will it? He wondered. Maybe he can trust people for once. Even a little.
‘…sure.’ He sighed, as he finally looked at Loid and Yor, then smiled subtly. ‘I guess I will give it a try…’ He looked away as he bit his lips nervously.
’Finally! Glad to hear that.’ Yor embraced her arms around him as Loid held his hand and promised, ‘I won’t upset you.’
As they were having a heartwarming moment, the door knob turned slowly as a light beams in. ‘Sy-on, papa, mama.’ Anya stepped in, holding her favorite CHimera doll. ’Can I join the hug?’
Damian hesitated at first, but eventually, he eased out of it as he nodded. ‘…Sure.’
It was a tight and warm hug as if it was squeezing all of his worries and anxiety out. The intimacy was something that he had never experienced before, and he hoped it never ended, as it was like a haven, for him and Anya. When they had to go through hard times, it would be a place for them to stay relaxed and prevent them from being corroded. With Mrs. Forger’s empathy and Mr. Forger’s intelligence, maybe they could help him so that he didn’t need to deal with all the things on his own. Maybe if they were there and he could depend on them, his life might be better. ‘If this could last forever…’ He thought.
His eyelids dropped after a long while. Maybe the warm atmosphere really affected him. He yawned without trying to hide it.
’Looks like you’re tired,’ Loid observed. ‘You better get sleep after this tiring day.’
He slowly got on his bed with a doll he borrowed from Anya. He squeezed it as he could finally release all the stress on him. He gradually felt comfy as he finally gave himself away to exhaustion and relaxation, then laid down on his bed with his consciousness fading away temporarily…
He hadn’t woken up naturally for a long time since he’d entered Eden. The sunlight poured through the window and shined on his eyes as he felt a bit irritated by the sunlight, then eventually opened his heavy eyelids.
Last night’s sleep was comfy. He felt his energy was coming back, like how he used to have when he was 5. He stretched slowly as he finally folded the blankets, then put the pillow back right in the same position as last evening.
‘Good morning.’ He greeted.
’It should be “good afternoon”, it’s now 1 pm already! We’re preparing lunch.’ Loid answered.
’ 1 PM!!!???’ He nearly yelled. He used to wake up at like 7 am or even earlier if he dared to sleep before midnight. ‘Sorry but, why didn’t you call me?’
’Because you seemed to be sleeping well, we don’t want to disturb you.’ Yor replied as she reassured him, telling him not to be worried about waking up late.
‘Oh. Thanks.’
’Sy-on is such a lazy boy.’ Anya smuggled as she roasted him.
’How dare you call me that?’
’Because I woke up earlier than you!’
’Anya, you aren’t any better, you literally woke up at 11 am' Loid slightly scolded. ‘And, he usually stays up to study. He is a lot more diligent and hard-working than you.’
‘Fine.’ She scowled as she pouted her mouth, showing her annoyance as Damian smiled smugly, just like Anya’s iconic smile.
’Anya, have you done your homework yet?’ Loid asked.
’…Well.’ Anya completely forgot about it. She was a bit too focused on watching Spy Wars and made random theories about it.
‘Anya, I am fine with it if you want to play, but failing to submit homework can result in a bolt.’ Loid exhaled worriedly.
Anya didn’t want to get another bolt—she already had 6! She was just 1 Stella away from being an imperial scholar. ‘What should I doooooooo?’ She lay down on her sofa, trying to figure a way out.
Loid’s tone became harsher, ’Anya, laying on the sofa won’t do anything. The Authens are out so no one’s helping you this time.
It was nice for them to let him stay and talk to me. Maybe…
‘Mr. Forger, I think I can help with her homework. I have completed mine in the first few days.’ He invited himself.
’Ah, no thanks, she is just lazy.’
’But I don’t want her to get another bolt again. And I don’t want to read the books I just borrowed for now, so… I think I can.’
’Fine. Anya, do your homework immediately after lunch. You’re lucky this time.’
’THE ANSWER IS 721, NOT 114!!’
’I AM TRYING MY BEST SO SHUT UP!!’
‘BUT YOU’RE NOT GETTING IT!!!’
’YOU ARE THE ONE WHO WANTED TO HELP ME.’
Loid rolled his eyes. Ugh, kids these days, he thought. Meanwhile, Yor sighed with a smile and went to the kids. ‘Anya is always like that, that’s why Loid doesn’t want you to teach her at first.’ She interrupted.
Damian’s anger vanished after Yor. Then, embarrassment started arising as he was being too rude to her. ‘Oh. Well, umm, I am sorry. For being too impolite.’
Anya answered, ‘Sy-on boy, you’re always like that. I hate to admit it but I am used to it.’
He pouted his mouth as he lay on the table. ‘My anger issues are here again.’
Yor patted his back. ‘It’s ok as long as Anya is fine with it. She complained many things about your anger issues, but I can see that she isn’t actually mad about it. Not to mention that anxiety and depression are the main causes of anger issues for many people.’ Her face was saddened as she mentioned the causes of anger issues.
’Oh.’ Damian slightly raised his head to look at the wall opposite him. Then, he turned to Loid, ’Mr, Forger, is there a medicine to help with these issues?’
‘There is. But I’m not giving you that. Maybe you have to relax for a bit. Sometimes, you have to stop thinking inside your head all the time. I used to always do that, you can ask Anya.’
‘It’s true. Papa ALWAYS did that.’
’I hope I can.’ Damian smiled satirically.
…Will I?
’Damian, I’m sure you can get rid of your anger issues if you try to relax.’ Loid came from the kitchen. ‘I had some issues about handling my anger, just not that serious.’
’I guess.’ It will be better with them.
‘Mr. Forger, Mrs. Forger.’
’Yes?’
He inhaled and said all the words out. ‘CanIstayheresometimes?’
’Of course you can, dear.’ Yor laughed gently as she nodded.
’Why not?’ Loid and Anya said it at the same time, which left all of them laughing. ‘The sun was brighter today.’ Damian murmured as he looked out at the window. The peaceful blue from the clear sky was silently present. I’m glad the sky was blue.
‘The color blue represents both the sky and the sea and is associated with freedom a lot.’ His teacher once said.

Chapter Text
[2nd June, 7:50 am, AT EDEN ACADEMY]
The short break was over.
“Hey, Anya! How’s your holiday going?” Becky asked. “Sadly I can’t go on a shopping spree with you.”
What happened?” Emile and Ewen jumped in.
They used to hate each other, but with Damian finally putting his pride aside and befriending Anya, their misunderstandings were gradually resolved. They had formed a squad and called themselves ‘The Immoral 5’, which is highly popular at school due to their reputation.
”Almost didn’t, Sy-on boy helped me.” Anya slipped out a grin as her right hand made a V-sign.
”Be glad that Damian helped you—wait, how did he meet you?” Emile questioned.
“Remember that one day when he was not on campus? He was with me and my family. He somehow found my dog and since it was late, my parents invited him to stay over. I thought he told you?”
”No, he never did. But shouldn’t he be back in the morning?”
Oh, that night. “I don’t think I should tell without his permission. You can ask him.”
”Ask about what? What’s crackin’? ” There’s a voice behind the 4 of them—Damian joined in as he spoke.
”Oh, Damian. We want to ask why you didn’t come back in the morning on that day.” Becky spoke before the 2 of them.
His eyes went dull for a quick moment. Images of his parents flashed in his brain in a second or two, and then it quickly changed to heartwarming moments. Damian had to admit, if it weren’t for these moments appearing after, he’d probably have a panic attack again. ”Oh, well, I don’t want to discuss it.” He shrugged as he shook his head.
”That’s fine!” All three of them answered. Anya looked at the clock on the tower. “There’s still around 25 minutes left.”
”That’s good! Also, have you heard of the narcissist in Spector Hall? He thought 5 girls in his class had a crush on him!”
”That’s disgusting, yuck.” Anya stuck her tongue out. “I bet those girls actually hate him with a burning passion.
”How did you know? The girls hate him a lot.” Becky widened her eyes a bit.
”Pretty normal. And have you heard of the incident in Cline Hall? Katie Williams told the class teacher that Isaac and his friends are bullying her!” Damian interrupted with some new gossip.
”Omg, Katie definitely has a heart made of glass. Isaac never bullies her, he just doesn’t like her that much, and then she twisted the truth? Not to mention that Isaac never persuades anyone to dislike or bully her. What a bitch.”
“I know right, fuck her.”
Ewen continued, ”And did you know that Rabeea and Yulia became friends?”
”What? I thought they disliked each other before.” Ewen’s jaw dropped.
”Well, Yulia had an argument with her friends at Rose Hall. Rabeea then suddenly asks her if she can be friends with her.”
”Ew. I chatted with Yulia before, and she said many bad things about Rabeea during the talk, like A LOT. She basically complained about Rabeea whenever she could! Glad that I haven’t interacted with her since then.”
”Same, Rabeea is problematic but so is Yulia. Oh wait, so what did the teacher do with the so-called bullying?”
”Isaac got a tonitrus bolt! They just blindly believed Katie.”
”Wtf? Why are the teachers at Eden Academy so stupid? They really need to get a new pair of glasses.” Damian was drinking water, he almost puked when he heard about the punishment.
”A new brain if you ask me.”
”Right.”
…
”Damn, it was 8:10 am already. Looks like we have to get back to the queue.” Ewen pointed at the clock, his face showing annoyance.
”Ugh, I hate school. Anya wants to talk more.”
”Yes we all want to but I don’t want to get a tonitrus bolt.” Damian rolled his eyes.
[8:50 AM, AT CECILLE HALL CLASSROOM]
“Hey Damian, do you know how the fuck this formula works?” Emile leaned towards him.
”Ya, Anya doesn’t know either. I can only think of Bondman right now,” Anya turned to him. Becky and Ewen nodded.
”Geez, I will explain it to you after this class. Why the heck are you guys so stupid? I thought we were all imperial scholars?” Damian showed his annoyance as he wrote his notes using his special ‘Lightning Note-taking’ move and gave all of them a glare.
I somehow want to visit Anya’s house… The girl turned her head to the voice, which was from Damian. Maybe not today, the others are literally begging me to explain such an easy formula. Fuck.
Hmm, I have an idea. She patted Damian’s shoulder using her right hand, ”Sy-on,” she whispered in his ears as he leaned in.
”Hmm?”
“I think we’re gonna spend a LONG time to understand this…Can we go to my house?”
Omg yes, that way I can go to her house. “Sounds like a good idea.” he answered. “Hey guys, maybe we can go to Anya’s house? I don’t think you can understand this in just a recess.”
”Ya sure. But why not Becks’s house ?”
”The table was too big. I don’t want to hurt my throat just to say a sentence.”
”Okay then. Anya, you good?”
”Of course,” Anya nodded. “Now, what did the teacher just say?”
”How am I supposed to know?” Damian almost shouted.
But deep down, he was actually grateful. He was still so afraid that his parents would abuse him like how they used to. It still scared him that his classmates and everyone might be upset at every single thing he had done, and called him a disappointment or a freak. His so-called friends still disgusted him when they tried to approach him. It had always got him goosebumps and sweat.
However, at least they were with him. They were still by his side. They were the ones that didn’t give a fuck about his power or money, and cared about him as Damian, instead of ‘Damian Desmond’ or ‘Second son of Desmond family’. He’d probably be in a mental hospital without them. Well, at least he was ok now.
And he could go to the Forgers today!
[4:30 pm, AT THE FORGERS]
“Oh, everyone!” Yor enthusiastically welcomed them as she waved her hand at them.
”Hi, mama!/Mrs. Forger.” All five of them responded at the same time and they burst into a laugh, in which Anya and Damian sounded more earnest and relaxed.
”Hey, children.” A voice came out from inside, it was clearly from an old man.
“Oh, Anya, the Authens are here today!”
”Grandpa Sigmund and Grandma Barbara!” Anya greeted. Damian and Becky both questioned, “Who are they?”
”They were my tutors!” Anya explained as she nodded confidently. “They come here once a week.”
Her tutor… Are they the ones that boosted Anya’s grades from the bottom to the top 30? Damian’s eyes sparkled as he ran towards them. “Oh my, I can finally get to know you! You are Anya’s tutor, right? She boosted her grades a lot since you tutored her, you must be amazing! Can you-“
“Shut up Sy-on.” Anya stopped him.
“It’s fine, Anya.” Sigmund turned into the boy, who was still looking at him with admiration. “You’re Damian Desmond, aren’t you? What a pleasure to meet you.’
”H-How did you know me?” He turned down his eagerness.
”I’m pretty sure it’s from a book or a newspaper that I read around 1 or 2 years ago.”
He was more amazed. “How can you remember those small things for a long time? Seriously, you’re so talented!” He leaned forward Sigmund more.
”It’s from experience, child. Also, why did you come here today?”
Damian leaned back to his friends. “Well, my friends, including Anya, want me to help them with school. I am also thinking about studying here for a while, as I have gained Mr. Henderson’s permission to come here. I am glad that he is more lenient with letting students go outside of the campus.
”Mind if I can help you guys?”
“Really? It can’t be better!!” Anya and Damian both replied with excitement and laughter. The other 3 were standing next to Yor, showing confused faces.
…
“…And that’s how the chemical reaction works.”
”That’s a great explanation, Mr. Authen! You explained way simpler than everything I could think of,” Damian praised.
“Thanks, kid,” Sigmund replied.
It was another diligent kid. However, it feels like he was lacking something… What is it?”
Anya heard it. She was a bit confused, and at the same time, she guessed it correctly…
Becky agreed while trying to roast him, “Yeah, way better than you.”
Damian stared at her, then turned to Sigmund right after. “Are there other ways to analyze this structure?”
“Of course. But, I think I have an extra ‘tutor class’ for you. Can you stay for a while after ‘class’?”
“Well, sure,” the boy nodded his head after hesitating for a second.
”Mr. Authen.”
”Hey kid. No need to be nervous, I just want to chat with you as I’m interested.”
”Sure,” Damian nodded as he turned the door knob. “Do I have to close the door?”
“Yes, please.”
The door clicked shut. They were in the guest room, while the others were preparing for dinner. The room was quiet without a sound, but it gave the young boy a calming feeling, and so was the old, wise man in front of him. He was holding a doll and sat on the bed while the older man was sitting on the chair.
“You’re a diligent and intelligent kid, aren’t you?”
Damian blushed slightly out of embarrassment and shyness. “I don’t know. I do find myself quite hard-working, but I will say that I doubt my ‘intelligence’.” He hugged the doll tighter.
”Don’t doubt yourself. And why is it?” He continued asking. He was curious, he really wanted to know. The kid in front of him excelled at many aspects, and yet he lost something. Something that was important.
”My brother was more intelligent than me. Getting 6-8 stellas in an exam was really a challenge, but he did it so casually. Being a smart person is compulsory in my family, y’know?” His father’s appearance was in his brain again. His eyes widened, gulping his saliva down as he held the doll more tightly as if he wanted to destroy the doll.
In fact, he was jealous and furious. He hated how his brother was always better than him. He was furious about how his brother was the one gaining all the attention.
Found it. “I see. So, do you mean that your family acquired more from your performance and ability?”
Damian looked down and stared at his doll. “I guess it is,” He clenched his fists slightly.
”You really are a bad-tempered kid, aren’t you?”
Damian didn’t expect Sigmund to spit out his main flaw so quickly. He had never lost his temper in front of him, let alone those serious ones. They just met today!
”It was obvious. You have to solve it, instead of breaking things so easily.”
”How do you know I break things around me when I am mad?”
”I just guessed.”
”That’s weird but okay.”
”Anger issues are usually caused by stress and anxiety. I’m pretty sure you know that?”
”I guess?” Damian tilted his head.
Sigmund held the other’s hand and he patted his shoulders. “Sleep more. Researchers say that your grades won’t improve even if you stay up all night to study. And from what you previously just said. I’m sure you have some issues about your family, right?”
Since Anya was on good terms with him, I think I can trust him. ”…I mean, my father never pays attention to me, my mother sees me as a curse, and my brother doesn’t care about me. The last time we had dinner was a few years ago when I was 6. We barely talked at that time. Not to mention that my father scared me off. I was SO terrified that I couldn’t say a word in front of him.” His grip on his hands became tighter.
Silence came for a few seconds, then Sigmund broke it. “Poor kid.”
“It’s fine, I guess. At least I still have my friends. I just don't need to think back.”
“But what can you do if you think of it uncontrollably?”
He couldn’t reply. He had thought of it before, that's why he fainted.
“Relax, kid. Focus on your friends. Your positive memories, the times when you laugh. Also, practice gratitude. I'm certain that you have done a great job as well. It's a fact, so why don't you clap your hands for yourself?”
“I hope it helps.” The boy slipped out a gentle and sincere smile.
“You can always find me as I am their neighbor. My house is right next to the Forgers.”
“Thanks. I think the others are waiting for me, I have to go now. I am afraid I will be too late if I don't leave.” He looked at the clock as he heard the sounds of them saying goodbye to Anya.
Damian waved his hands to Sigmund as he repeated. He is a fine kid, Sigmund thought.
As the kids left the house, Yor went back to her room, humming her favorite song. She then heard a sound, coming from her telephone which she had used for years before she moved in. Yor looked around as she closed the door as well as her window without any sounds. She took up the telephone carefully. “Hi?”
“How's your day going, Thorn Princess? I assume it goes well.”
“Indeed, Shopkeeper. Anya's friends came today. They're all so lovely! Especially a boy called Damian, he's so hard-working!”
“Glad to hear that. Who is the boy you just mentioned?”
“Oh, he's Melinda-san's second son. He has been friends with Anya since 7-8.”
“...Thanks for telling me. Also, Thorn Princess, you have a new client.”
Her eyes became sharp as ever. “Who is it?” The tone became firm and creepy, opposite from the cheerful one.
“Benjamin Montgomery. He's the CEO of the Montgomery Group, which is a new rival of the Desmonds, the former First Family. He bribes other members of the legislative council for his own profit and to rival the Desmond family. His wife, Shelia Montgomery is bribing members from the Lady's Patriots Society, while his son, Jaden Montgomery has also committed similar crimes.”
“Such an unbearable family,” Yor replied with a monotone.
“It is confirmed that the Montgomery family will be on vacation this Saturday.
Elite Estates Suite. Room 3001.”
“Ok, thanks.” Yor hung up the phone. She was back to her usual cheerful and nice mood as if nothing happened when she was on the phone. But her mind was completely different.
Such scumbags. They just bribe others only for their own benefit, unlike Melinda-san and Damian-san, who are selfless and diligent.
I feel bad for Melinda-san, even though she did something bad to her son, she doesn't deserve to get such treatment from people like Shelia. She doesn't deserve to be in Lady's Patriot Society.
Damian-san is a hard-working and smart child, unlike the others who like to flex and bribe others.
I will take their lives. Disgusting traitors.

Chapter Text
[6th June, AT CECILLE HALL CLASSROOM]
“I will go on vacation tomorrow at Elite Estates Suite, the best hotel in the country! And it’s owned by my family.” Jaden sat on the teacher’s table, crossing his legs and increasing his volume as he tried to flex.
“That’s so cool, Jaden-kun! I wish I could go on vacation that often!”
“I wish I was you!!”
“How admirable!”
The other students revolved around him, trying to approach the boy.
…
“Tck, what an asshole. Can he just stop fucking showing off non-stop?” Damian scoffed as he crossed his arms and sat on his usual seat.
“I don’t even call his family a proper rival of the Desmonds.” Emile nodded.
“He reminds me of you when you were 6.” Anya gave a small glance at Jaden, then turned back to Damian.
“I know I was very cocky and arrogant back then. I am still a bit proud now if you want me to admit it. But hey, AT LEAST I don't FLEX in front of people ALL THE TIME.”
“I agree,” Becky said as she placed her right hand on Anya's shoulders. She rolled her eyes at Jaden. "He’s worse than Damian. I mean WAY WORSE. He actually tried to get others on his side by giving them money! That’s straight-up bribery.”
“What the fuck? I wish he was dead.” Anya scowled. I wish Mama could kill him. But Mama’s not going to kill him, she got some customers tomorrow.
“Hey, ‘The Immoral 5,” Jaden stood up as he walked to the gang slowly but provocatively. “Did you guys get something good to do?” He scoffed as he turned around to the audience.
Damian would probably get in a fight with him if he was 6. However, he was NOT 6 now. He was 12 already. He wasn’t going to shout at someone so easily. That would hurt the reputation of the former First Family.
“Well, it will be a boring weekend. I will visit my friend’s house tomorrow and study with my group on Sunday.”
“You know that’s boring? How surprising. Going on vacation is way better. Or maybe, your family can’t afford this?”
Everyone started gossiping.
“There’s no way the Montgomery Family is richer than the Desmond family!”
“But the Desmond family never goes on vacations together!”
“I know right? Or are they too busy?”
“Or they are actually going bankrupt!”
…
Pfft, how naive, They all thought as they put out fake smiles. There’s no way that stupid monkey thought they would get mad at it right? Let alone getting into a fight?”
Anya spoke as the others let her take the floor. “The Desmonds are just too busy. They spend their time on important affairs and studying for Damian. Damian also cherishes his time with his friends, and that’s why he visits them a lot, including us. He goes on vacations, but it ISN’T his priority. He doesn’t like telling it in front of others too.”
Damian nodded, as Anya continued. “I hope you have a good time during your vacation. However, please don’t spread fake rumors. The Desmonds are NOT going bankrupt. Maybe going on vacations isn’t their favorite entertainment? How can you assume that they can’t afford it just because they don’t do it?”
“Thanks, Anya.” Omg Anya you did so so well, I love how you speak and how you stand up!! Wait no, I can't be like that. Stop acting like you are obsessed with her, Damian.
Everyone nodded and echoed. Jaden, who felt embarrassed and abashed, started losing himself. “H-Hey! STOP INSULTING ME! You are spreading fake rumors about me spreading fake rumors!”
Becky laughed sarcastically as she stepped in front of Anya, “But you said the Desmonds can’t afford a vacation when they just don’t like it? How is that not spreading rumors?”
Jaden’s face filled with red as he was fuming with anger. “YOU WILL SEE! YOU ABSOLUTE TRASH, RUBBISH, BITCH!!” He ran away from the crowd as fast as possible.
“Damn, he lost himself,” Emile and Ewen slipped out a laugh. Damian looked at the other 4, then turned to the scattered crowd. “What a good drama. Anya and Becks are really the ‘most valuable players’,” he praised.
“Nah, he’s just stupid enough to lose himself so quickly. Like you before.”
“I can't help but agree. Ugh, I hate this fucking monkey with a burning passion.”
“Agreed.” They all said in unison.
[7th June, 5:30 pm]
“Unforgivable.”
A young lady who was dressed in black was walking gracefully on the street. She didn’t wear a smile, but a serious and apathetic look. as if she was going to kill someone. She is indeed going to kill someone, though.
“Yor Forger-Briar had been married to Loid Forger for 7 years before Anya was enrolled in the Eden Academy. She works at the city hall as a senior staff member.”
However, she was covertly a top-tier assassin, who could kill an army just by herself. When she took the lives of those traitors, she wore a black dress with a golden headband. It’s the exact same costume she was wearing right now. Why? Because she has a new mission at the moment, which is to assassinate the Montgomery Family.
“Oh wait! I am so sorry for bumping into you!” Yor immediately apologized to the man. She might be an assassin, but she’s usually very clumsy.
“Watch your way!” the man yelled at her. Despite that, the polite lady didn’t yell back. “I will!” she replied as she bowed at the rude man in front of her. She quickly ran away after that.
“I was being clumsy again,” Yor thought. “Let’s just get this done as soon as possible. Melinda-san and Damian-san will be better if I finish this. Anya told me about the son of the family. He is so problematic!”
[FLASHBACK:]
“YOU HAD BETTER SHUT UP AND OBEY ME.”
Shelia was sitting on the chair that she ordered. She yelled, “If you don’t ever shut up or disobey me, don’t blame me for beating up.”
“I am sorry! I deeply apologize for not listening to you, please forgive me!”
“Too late.” She stood up and walked towards the younger lady slowly. A loud sound of slapping echoed through the walls.
“I am truly sorry about it! I will listen to you and obey you, and work for you for eternity!”
“Good. Now get up and move those 12 boxes to the other side.”
The young lady felt exhausted before, and it became more serious after all the scolding from Shelia Montgomery.
“Oh, now you’re getting up? Looks like I should NOT give you ANY chances.”
She was about to raise her hand and slapped her hard when someone caught her wrist.
“This is prohibited, Shelia. Slapping other members is not allowed.” A gentle but majestic voice was behind her. “Please respect others.”
It was from Melinda, the chairperson of the organization.
“Oh, Melinda! I was just kindly telling this young lady to volunteer more.”
“Please don’t lie, Shelia. I saw the way you scolded her, and it’s an unbearable act in the organization.”
“But she isn’t, Melinda.’ Melinda quickly turned to the voice.
“Shelia isn’t mocking the young lady!”
The other ladies here nodded and echoed. Melinda knows the reason: they are the ones that use violence on other members.Disgusting, she thought.
“You know, please don’t spread fake rumors like that. I would never scold them, let alone beat them up!”
Melinda’s eyes dulled. She was disgusted. She couldn’t tolerate violence, Especially since she was a victim of it. And yet, the others were protecting her. Even if she removed Shelia from the organization, she knew the members wouldn’t support her as the chairman, and maybe someone who beat the others out of s*** would take the spot. Before she lost herself, a hint of a smile was tugging at their lips, “Sorry about that. You can continue.”. She gave a cold stare to Shelia as a warning.
Although Shelia didn’t seem to care about it.
[7th June, 5:45 pm]
“Finally,” Damian stretched.”This f***ing assignment took me a long time.” He began taking out his clothes and his daily necessities, then his backpack.
“Damian, are you going to Anya’s house?” Ewen asked while he was taking out the textbooks.
“Ya, I just finished studying History and National Language. I will be back after lunch.”
“Still hard-working as ever.”
“Thanks— oh wait, the telephone rang. I’m sure it’s from Anya.”
“Hey?”
“Hi, Sy-on boy. You are staying for the night, right?”
“Oh, yep.”
“Good to hear! Also, mama will only be back by 8pm. She has some additional things to do at city hell. Anya is glad that Mama thought of an excuse already. I must hide Mama’s assassinations.
“Sure.”
“Then, see you later!”
“What did she talk about?”
“Nothing. She only told me that Mrs. Forger will be back a bit later today.”
“Do you want to take the textbooks?”
“Hmm, not really. I just wanna spend more time with Anya and her family.” He took his olive green backpack out as he headed to the door of the dorm room. “See ya!”
…
” The bus is so crowded. I hate this feeling,” he murmured. I am glad that I took a few books that I have always wanted to read from the library.
In order to prevent his father from knowing that he stays less on the campus than before, he goes to the Forgers by bus.
But instead of taking the books out, he was attracted by the views outside. He hadn’t looked outside of the window for a long time. When he was in a car or on the school bus, he either studied hard or was too busy chatting with his friends.
He began to look in detail. For example, the ancient and sumptuous buildings that had existed for a prolonged time, the plants and trees that wore pieces of golden clothing given by the sun, and the concert from the traffic light, pedestrians, and the wind. It looks like Ostania has changed a lot in a few days, although it has never changed. It made his whole body relax—he hadn’t felt it since he left Anya’s house. He wished that the bus could arrive sooner. He hated those traffic lights for blocking him, and the pedestrians for walking so slow. But then, he changed his mind. He started looking at those pedestrians who strolled around the street slowly and closely. He thought that might be a good idea.
But as he was observing the pedestrians, he noticed a familiar lady. The hairstyle, the face, and the tall, slim figure. But something felt off—the eyes. The eyes were still ruby but they were sharp, so sharp that it caused a chill to run down his spine. The vibe she gave was completely different. In fact, it was the opposite—apathetic, cold, and terrifying. He could feel his goosebumps.
But as the bus stopped, he leaned his head to the window. He stared at the figure, unwilling to change the focus. His eyes kept moving as the lady was crossing the road. Where is she going? But I have to go to Anya’s house right now, it would be irresponsible for me to leave without telling her.
He squeezed his eyes and looked at her again. The apathetic vibes she gave scared him so hard that his forehead was beaded with sweat. On the other hand, the vibes she gave were also attracting him, as if they were calling him to follow the lady. He bit his lips and crossed his arms, thinking if he should follow her.
When he gave another glance on the street, he saw a telephone booth at a bus stop. “Maybe god had already decided this for me.”
He got off the bus when it just stopped. He immediately focused on finding the woman with a black dress and golden headband for seconds before he noticed. They were around 10 meters apart when she turned to the right. His legs ran subconsciously to the turning point, then noticed that nobody was walking on the road except her. He was just to follow when he felt a stare that scared him off. “I thought someone was following me,” she muttered, but the boy overheard it. So, he knew that he couldn’t get too close, or else she would notice it, or feel it. His heart beat faster as he got goosebumps again when he thought of it.
He exhaled, trying to calm himself down as he noticed that she was walking farther. He strolled across the street, always putting his foot down carefully so as not to make any sounds. He knew that making any sounds would get himself exposed.
…
The place was full of green trees as the color of the leaves became darker, due to the setting sun. The sounds of birds changed from a relaxing sound to a creepy one. Crows flew across the trees as the blustery was pissing him off. He hated to admit it, but he didn’t know where he was—he never expected himself to follow this far.
The darker the sky, the more creepy the place was. He wondered the reason he decided to follow Yor—if he hadn’t followed her, he would have been in Anya’s house. Yet the feelings of curiosity were too strong, it gave him an urge to keep following her. He didn’t know why he wanted to.
He realized that a huge building was right next to him. The building was enormous and built in a Gothic style. The sculptures were so detailed that they looked like they were real. The flying buttress and the pointed arches fitted the vibes—creepy. He had seen this before, but he forgot when and where, as well as the fact that the building wasn’t exactly like this. When did it get that creepy? he groaned.
But she stopped and turned to the building. He followed her eyes to the top of the building. It looks so tall. As he finally snapped out of the mesmerization, he saw that she walked up the stairs and opened the front door. He could barely see the brand, with the words “Elite Estates Suite”.
So it was this hotel. I wondered why Mrs. Forger go there. Well, if she was in a hotel like this, it means that she is here for private affairs, right? I might bother her. In fact, it’s stupid for me to oblige such weird curiosity. Anya told him she would be back during dinner already, why am I so dumb? He sighed, as he turned to a street sign, writing “Route 1467 bus stop”. “I’m glad that the sky was still not completely dark, or else I might be in danger,” he murmured.
And Yor, known as “Thorn Princess”, was ready to serve her new clients.
