They had managed to arrest Chuuya for suspicion of mafia affiliation and now the redhead was awaiting his trial
"Get up" A man said to the room "Enter Judge Dazai Osamu"
Chuuya thought he had heard wrong, but no, through the back door came an older and darker-eyed Osamu Dazai dressed in a black robe and sat in the judge's place
He made them sit back down and someone brought him a pile of papers to his table
Dazai skimmed through the papers and looked Chuuya straight in the eyes and transmitted the message "Ha idiot" with a mocking smile before returning to his hard expression in less than a second
"Please bring the first witnesses" Dazai told him looking at the security guards
"Rynosuke and Gin Akutagawa enter the room testifying in favor of the accused Chuuya Nakahara" said one of the guards opening the door for that the two will enter
If they recognized Dazai they did not show it and Dazai was very proud of them
"This man has never been in contact with the mafia" Ryunoske said while Dazai looked at him with an expressionless face
"Yes, we would know he was the one who took care of us after our mother abandoned us" Gin said
Dazai nodded and turned to the boys "You can sit down, we will take your testimony into account"
"Next witness please" Dazai said and the next person came in
"After listening to the statements of the 47 witnesses and the defense of the accused I declare him innocent, the session is closed" Dazai said hitting his gavel
"Someone bring me my clothes" Dazai said
A young woman with brown hair helped Dazai take off his robe and handed him his jacket
"Thank you swan, sweet as always" Dazai said to the young woman when he handed him his briefcase
Dazai went back into the passage where the Judge came out and the people from the court left, the guards released Chuuya and gave him back his things
Chuuya left the court with the Akutagawa brothers and in the middle of the street Ryunosuke said "We've all seen the same thing, right?"
"So Dazai left the mafia to become a judge? Strange" Gin said
"Yes, very strange" Chuuya said
Dazai finished his work and went home, when he arrived he found three familiar people waiting for him at the door with their arms crossed
"What a nice welcome and with that I mean it's not nice. What are you doing here?" Dazai asked as he dodged them to get to his door and open it with his keys
"You have some explaining to do" Chuuya said
"You too, how the hell do they catch you Chuuya?" Dazai said looking at him angrily "If It would have been another judge, they would have sent you to jail"
"Now come in" Dazai said opening the door for them
The three mobsters sat on the couch while Dazai went to prepare some tea and served it a while later
"I can't believe you became a judge" Ryunosuke said
Dazai shrugged "I abandoned you to follow my dream of studying law, it's not a big deal"
Both siblings looked at him with their mouths open and Dazai laughed amused
"Nah lie" Dazai said blowing on the cup of tea that was still hot
"Actually Oda died and Ango decided it was a great idea for me to study so he put me in the judge school to show that I wanted to change or something and convince the government to wipe the slate clean for me" Dazai said taking a sip of his tea
"And you want to change?" Chuuya asked
"No, but it's funny the irony that a mobster became a judge and I can know if someone really committed the crime or not (he investigate them until he find out everything about them) so I guess it's better for the safety of the civilians on the streets" Dazai said shrugging his shoulders
"Yeah I guess so" Gin said also drinking his tea
"Well then what do you want to do?" Dazai asked
"What do you mean?" Chuuya said
"Since it seems I've abandoned the children and you've been the one taking care of them, do you want shared custody or a divorce?" Dazai asked raising an eyebrow as he drank from his cup
"Who says I haven't divorced you already?" Chuuya asked
"I would have received the divorce papers if you had done so" Dazai said with a smile
"I forged your signature" Chuuya said with airs of grandeur
"You want me to take you to court again for openly admitting to the fraud of a signature on a legal contract before a registered judge" Dazai said looking at the redhead
"Okay, calm down old mens" Ryunosuke said getting the attention of both
"Chuuya didn't forge shit, he just cried and got drunk to the point of satiety" Ryunosuke said
"And why are you exposing me like that?" Chuuya asked his son while frowning at him
"And you didn't file for divorce either so that counts for something" Ryunosuke continued
"Yeah, we can say that you just went on vacation" Gin said with a smile
"For us and for the law we are still a family" Ryunosuke said
"Yeah, well I promised that death would separate us, not divorce" Dazai said, taking a sip from his cup.
"Then I guess I can't ask you to pay child support" Chuuya said, sighing sadly.
"No, but we can make up for lost time if you want" Dazai said with a smile.
Chuuya snorted fondly, and Dazai laughed lovingly.
They had some things to fix, but they would quickly get over it and become the happy family they were before.
