Is it that sweet? I guess so

Summary:

Oct. 20, Musician/social media AU

NEVILLE BELOVED @silveristic
So, do you think Riddle knows about the Later appearance?

Notes:

Bringing back a wayback playback -- this is part three of the Musician AU I started for Promptober 2023. Here's part one and part two, since this won't make the most sense without reading them. They're silly and fluffy and crack-tacular.

This ficlet is for Pitzer, who also loves social media AUs~ Sorry it took a year, my dear! ♥♥♥

Title from Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso, which I listened to on loop while writing this.

Also, please note there is reference to queerphobia in this fic (based on how a character dresses). It's fairly mild and no one is hurt, but I wanted to give y'all a heads-up. I know next to nothing about Late... with Jools Holland, so I have no idea if this would ever be a problem (behind the scenes) on that show, but unfortunately for them they were the first show to turn up in my Google search results.

And with that: Enjoy! ♥

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Silverish knew when they started getting more play on the mainstream stations that there’d be efforts to change their image. Each member of the band had cultivated a bit of a personal style, to one degree or another, over the years. None got such a resistant reception as Ginny and her butch aesthetic.

The amount of times she’s heard, “Oh, you’re such a pretty girl, if only you’d do X or Y” – thankfully her mother had stopped when she finally accepted her daughter wasn’t going through a phase. The world at large didn’t get the memo, and Ginny often is confronted with opinions on how a young, attractive, female vocalist should look. She’s gotten better at laughing it off, but Harry knows it still gets to her sometimes.

The appearance on Later… with Jools Holland is a serious break for them, but they almost walk away when they see the outfits the show’s costume designers have put together for them.

None of the outfits really suit them – clearly the costume designers hadn’t bothered to do their research – but Neville is easygoing enough to add subtle elements of personality to his ensemble, and Luna, bless her, simply does whatever she wants with the clothes, with no care given for how they’re meant to be worn. But Ginny… Righteous indignation flares to life in Harry’s chest as he’s forced to watch her face fall.

Which is how Harry ends up in a glittery mini dress and his trusty Chucks, Ginny wearing the black jeans and button-up Harry was meant to wear. He supposes it’s lucky (?) that he and Ginny are similar sizes.

The audience doesn't seem to mind, but apparently the execs aren't happy. Silverish doesn’t get another offer for a TV appearance for a long time after that. No one in the band is particularly disappointed.

[Video description: Indie rock band Silverish plays an upbeat, harmony-heavy rock song on a blue-lit television set, surrounded by a couple rows of audience members. Guitarist Harry Potter and vocalist Ginny Weasley keep performing towards each other with infectious energy, smiling and dancing in place. At one point, Potter bends over facing away from Weasley, who exaggeratedly swats him on the arse. The audience can be heard cheering.]

Sorry, I was hoping you wouldn’t find out about that

Do not apologise

Unless you’re apologising for neglecting to show me this before now.

In which case, you can apologise by wearing that for me tonight.

I

Why not?

Never mind, it will be easy enough to acquire a new one

One just for me to see

Tom

You’ve seen me naked

Notes:

Thanks for reading! ♥♫

ETA: I'm so happy other people want to see Harry in a sparkly mini dress! I wish I could draw it. But I did a little searching and decided he's wearing either this one or this one, if you'd like a visual reference!
