Partners, You and I

Summary:

"Goodbye? But Viktor...you're my partner." Jayce reminded.

"Our paths diverged long ago. It was...affection, that held us together." Viktor replied.

(Or, that one Jayvik break up scene, but make it gayer.)

Work Text:

Jayce couldn't believe it, the audacity his partner had to just up and leave him after weeks spent keeping him breathing. But at the same time, he understood why. It was a small part of him that did, but nevertheless he understood deep down. However, that didn't stop him from letting emotions cloud his greater judgement, and he felt fingers curling into ironclad fists at his sides when lost in between conflicting emotions.

"You think it's so easy?" Jayce pleaded.

That made Viktor face him again, which was a good enough sign in his books to keep it going.

"To turn your back while your whole city looks to you for salvation? To cling to principles while the love of your life bleeds out in your arms?" he said, nearly shouting.

He looked into his partner's tired eyes, his gaze filled with melancholy. Jayce didn't want to accept it, he didn't want to believe that after all they'd been through together; that he was just going to leave him in shambles, with a civilization on the verges of collapse to figure out how to save on his own.

"I NEVER ASKED FOR THIS!"  he shouted.

He could feel tears welling up in the corners of his eyes, and he knew Viktor could see them based off the softening of his facial demeanor. He hoped for just one moment that he would consider turning around in order to approach him, supplying him with the comforting shoulder to cry upon that was his partner; the man he cherished most of all, above anyone else. And for a moment, he felt his heart drop in sheer gratefulness when witnessing him actually do it; approaching him calmly, reaching a hand out towards him. He placed it upon his shoulder when close enough, making Jayce smile. Then, an unexpected yet welcome surprise occurred when Viktor leaned in for a kiss. He gladly accepted, of course he would, how could he not? Especially during a time of great grieving such as this.

Their lips connected, and for the first time in quite a while, the whole world felt beautiful again. It was like magic when they kissed, the strongest Hextech ever produced in his eyes. Not that he would ever publicly entail to such a cheesy thing of course.

But then, when their lips parted, the magic ceased; and the sorrow of reality settled back into him deeply. He looked hopefully into Viktor's eyes, but what was reflected back onto him was pure despair. He backed away slightly, and Viktor continued his long walk away from Piltover; but not before a few parting words as well to his dear, former lover.

"Goodbye, Jayce." he said.

The world was grey, but to Jayce; it might as well be pitch black by now.
