   Summary

   It started with quintessence—the boiling heat, the numbing cold, the strange power coursing through his veins.

   After Shiro’s desperate act to protect him leaves him wounded, Matt becomes the focus of Zarkon’s witch, who sees him as a contingency plan for her Champion’s potential failure. To her, anyone can be made into a warrior.

   But Matt has no intention of being anyone’s pawn. Armed with newfound abilities that could rival Death itself, he’s not planning to roll over and die. Instead, he’ll use his power to turn the game on its head and get the hell out of dodge—before the Galra can twist him into something unrecognizable.

   Survival isn’t just about running. For Matt, it’s about making sure they never see him coming.
