Unfiltered Affection

Summary:

You had an inkling how that could happen, but you simply smiled. “So amazing.” A certain white haired, crimson eyed individual swimming in your mind’s eye. His generosity was so boundless when it came to you that it knocked the wind out of you a little bit. But you didn’t want to think of him right now, your complicated feelings around him, or the fact that his strategy was actually working and your defenses were lowering by the minute.

Notes:

Plenty of Sylus smut in these streets ( which I'm also guilty of, he is a hottie after all) so this time we have a second favorite- softy Sylus and messy but super cute MC. Enjoy.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a beautiful spring night, the air warm with just a hint of a breeze, the Linkon City lights twinkling all along the streets as man made stars do, you were almost sad to go inside with your team for a corporate hang out after a tough quarter for the UNICORNS.

You couldn’t remember the last time you let loose and unwind and were for once excited to be outside instead of hold up in your apartment catching up on sleep or busy with the two man book club you and Xavier created. Tara was standing next to you a bundle of excitement as she squealed while holding onto your arm. “ This is so exciting. I can’t believe that we even managed to get into this place. And the fact that they were willing to shut it down just for us too. Amazing!”

You definitely were not going to address the fact that you wish he was even with you right now as you made your way inside the beautiful restaurant, with glittering lights, sophisticated chandeliers that reminded you of diamonds, and you definitely didn’t think about what he smelt like as you ascended the stairs and made it to the terrace area that presented a wonderful view of the hill below. No way. Tonight was about good old fashioned team bonding with an open bar to boot. You had to get some liquor in you stat. No more forbidden men to fuss over.

The night was proceeding exceptionally well and you were pleasantly inebriated, chatting excitedly with the girls in the team as they dissected their dating life and all it’s myriad of trouble and excitement. They suddenly turned to you expectantly. “ So… are you seeing anyone right now? The rumor mill is currently pointing to Xavier. How true is that?” Simone was looking at you with shining curiosity.

“ Uhm oh. No no, Xavier is a dear friend and neighbor.” You held your hands up defensively.
“ Ooh your hot doctor friend right?” Lois speculated. You shook your head quickly.
“ Wait is it the famous Rafayel?! He is sooo dreamy.” Tara cooed.
“ No no. Guys please. They’re all just really good friends I swear. I… uhm I mean I did meet someone but.. it’s all new right now I guess. So no, I am actually as single as they come.” You sighed, trying to figure out a way out of this interrogation. You downed the glass of red wine in your hands and scrambled off to get another. You kept feeding yourself drinks, trying to avoid your love life all night by redirecting and dodging and before you knew it you were beyond drunk.

Your face was red and eyes unfocused, body slightly swaying as you fought to keep some semblance of clarity within you. The night air had become a tad colder past midnight and one of the men in your team was kind enough to offer you their cardigan before walking you out at the girls request and calling a cab for you.
“ Just wait here and you’ll be taken home soon alright. Stay safe.” He turned to go back in the venue to keep the celebration going. You found a bench just outside before sitting down, heels becoming a challenge in your condition. You were warmer as the borrowed jersey covered the backless portion of your dress.

A big hand landed on your shoulder from behind you and his scent hit you with full force sending pleasant shivers down your spine. You looked up with a big smile on your face and sure enough Sylus’s face was staring down back at you. “ Hiiii baby.” You sang out enthusiastically causing his brow to shoot up in surprise and a ghost of a smirk on his lips
“ Oh? So eager. And… honest. Are you drunk kitten?” his velvety voice wrapped itself around you and you closed your eyes to drink it in. “ I am. My cab is coming.” Just then your notification popped up saying your cab had arrived.
“ Your phone says it’s here. I’m coming with you. Let’s go. I’ll make sure you’re safe.”
“ Oooookaaay.” You sighed happily. It made Sylus chuckle and you thought what a pleasant sound. “ Walking’s tricky.” You slurred. Sylus pinched the bridge of his nose before picking you up and setting you down and climbing in the other side.

You immediately scrambled to his side of the car and cuddled into him. He was enjoying this newfound unfiltered side of you a great deal, and he knew he’d enjoy teasing you about it the next day even more. “ Why can’t you be this enthusiastic when you’re sober kitten? I quite like this side of you.” He whispered into your hair. If you were lucid enough you’d have picked up the yearning in his statement.

Finally you arrived at your home, and after watching you try and fail to walk properly, he picked you up again impatiently stalking down the hallway, maneuvered you to unlock your door and set you down your couch. He went to your kitchen and came back with bottled water. “ Here. Drink this.” He took off your shoes for you, made to take off the cardigan making a strange face as he did that this time you did not miss. “ Stay the night. Stay with me.” Your big eyes shining and pleading, it caught him off guard.
“No. Time for bed. Come.” Sylus tried very hard to not react to the hurt on your face, you were so cute when you pouted, but you followed him anyway, seeming to get over it immediately. “ Your loss.” You giggled happily. “ That’s true.” He said simply.

Once satisfied you were settled, Sylus left your apartment an amused look on his face. It was nice to know your deepest feelings for once, you kept them so well guarded, he was definitely making progress.

The next morning you awoke with the worst headache of your life and you tried to piece the last hours of the night. Then horror washed over you. You had fawned over Sylus so thoroughly you couldn’t imagine how the hell you would explain it to him. You immediately buried yourself back in bed in your blankets and screamed into them.

A notification pinged on your nightstand.
Sylus: Expect a care package delivered within the hour, should help you get over your hangover quicker

You sighed in relief, he must be letting bygones be bygones. Which was not the Sylus you knew. You texted back.

You: Thank you. For last night as well.
Should you apologize maybe? No, it’d address the elephant in the room, you’d rather ignore it. But Sylus had other plans.
Sylus: Of course. When you’re better come to the N109 Zone, your baby will be waiting.
Sylus: My invitation for a sleepover is an open one. I’m waiting on you.
You sighed… Yeah you’re never gonna see him again. No way. And as if he read your mind through the screen he texts.
Sylus: Don’t even think about running away, I can find you.
So much for that plan. But you still couldn’t help the smile that creeped up on your face.
As if you could ever truly stay away from him.

Notes:

Yeah yeah I'm still working on Siren’s Shadow, but it's an intense fic, took a break to mellow out.
