Chapter Text

Night Raven College was known for having a talented selection of students. From astounding academic performance, rising athletic stars and those talented within the arts. However, it lacks stable counseling…

Students are claiming that they are stressed from the overwhelming amount of work and the pressure from exams. Some have even claimed that they are experiencing high levels of depression! Oh great seven…

From the amount of overblots that occurred during the past few months, this is something that simply cannot be ignored!

So what does the headmage of Night Raven College, Dire Crowley, do to avoid getting discipline from the higher ups and gain a good word from students?

Set up a field trip of course! Oh, Dire Crowley the genius that you are!

The plan is, by the end of January, the staff and Crowley himself will announce the trip after students have all finished their end of the semester exams.

They’ll be jumping for joy for sure! To finally be able to have a few days off campus to enjoy the nice weather and have fun with their friends (that is if they have any…).

Now…time to look into those group sales.

The Ramshackle dorm was starting to feel like home for Yuu. The ghosts were nice enough to hang around and Grim is…just Grim. And every now and then a certain pair of eel twins swing by to bully hangout.

Staring at the blank canvas, Yuu sighs. He hasn’t been able to complete a whole art piece in a while ever since the start of exam week. All he’s got are unfinished paintings and some drawings in his sketchbook.

Those exams were an absolute disaster but he and Grim were able to pass with a decent grade of 72 out of 100. No deals had to be made this time for Grim to pass.

Seeing his dorm mate smile along with his classmates for passing made Yuu pleased.

A celebratory meal is definitely needed!

Before making his way down the stairs to the kitchen, Yuu feels a buzz from his pocket. It was a notification from the group chat:

Yuu: ACE SHUT THE FUCK UP. NO I DO NOT.

Ace: Yooo guys! Apparently there’s gonna be an assembly tomorrow!

Deuce: Really? Where did you get this information from?

Ace: I overheard Riddle and Trey talkin in the lobby after dinner

Ace: From what I heard it sounds like it could be something good

Epel: Oh yeah! I heard Vil and Rook discussing it too! 

Epel: I think about a trip or something…

Jack: Leona and Ruggie were talking as well. Ruggie looked… excited.

Sebek: A trip? Of what kind?

Epel: Not sure…It might be something worth hearing about tomorrow

Epel: Hey Yuu 👋

Ace: Yo Yuu we see you online

Yuu: Hey boys. What’s this about a trip?

Deuce: We’re not too keen if it will actually be a trip. The headmage could just congratulate those who passed the exams.

Sebek: Well whatever the case, we should be fully prepared for what is to be announced.

Jack: Yeah. Make sure you guys wear your robes.

Ace: Yessirrrrr🫡

A trip huh? Another chance to explore outside of NRC. It would be fun to goof around with the boys outside of school.

”Oi hench-human! The look-alike twins are here again!” Grim yells from the dorm lobby.

Geez, what do they want from me this time…

”Yeah, I’ll be right there!”

Reaching the bottom, Yuu is immediately embodied with warmth(?). He feels something squeeze his smaller form and feels himself get lifted into the air. Turning his head, Yuu is faced with a wide grin filled with sharp teeth.

”Shrimpyyy~ We’re here to see you again! Ahahahah!”

It was none other than Floyd Leech. Yuu’s number one enemy on campus…

Don’t get Yuu wrong, he loves the guy. Floyd is real fun to be around but being chased around school was not fun. It was like playing cat and mouse with him. Yuu being the mouse in this case and also not wanting to really play this game that sort of developed on its own. Floyd’s mood swings are hard to deal with most of the time, but Yuu never fails to make him feel better somehow (a sigh of relief from everyone). But if Yuu gets into some trouble with bullies, Floyd never hesitates to scare them off or threaten them. He’s definitely supportive when needed.

”Now, now Floyd. Let’s respect the Prefect in his dorm. We don’t want to scare him away. Fufufufu~”

And Jade Leech, the other twin. Who, at first glance, may seem like the better twin to be hanging around with but alas, it is the same result. That friendly smile and gentlemanly personality could fool anyone to do his bidding. You may end up dead one day if you somehow get manipulated to test out his strange collection of flora to see if they’re edible…Despite that, Jade is, dare Yuu say, quite cute. Jade’s love for mushrooms is amusing and seeing that spark in his eye whenever Yuu asks questions makes him short-circuit. Jade is also very good at giving advice and helping with magic-related homework.

Regardless of the weird relationship Yuu has with the eel twins, he never hesitates to deepen their bond in return.

Yuu would often watch Floyd play basketball from the bleachers and hand him snacks during his games. Floyd even showed Yuu his shoe collection and how he takes care of them. Yuu is also an honorary member in Jade’s club. Going out on hikes, discovering new species of fungi and joining him in terrarium making (much to Floyd’s dismay).

”Hey—Ack! Floyd, you can put me down now!”

Floyd snickers and carries Yuu to the couch, setting him down to sit. The twins then take a seat on the couch themselves on their own respective side of the couch.

“What do you two want? I already told Azul I’m open to work at the Lounge this weekend.” Yuu says as he lays back.

Floyd starts to play with the boy’s hoodie strings as Jade turns to face them.

Speaking of Azul, their bond is also strange as well. After the overblot situation with Jamil, Azul seems to become more comfortable around Yuu. He was even able to pick up a job to work at Mostro Lounge during winter break. Azul is a pretty decent guy to hang out with. He’s respectful, smart and never hesitates to help Yuu. That's if you can get around his constant offerings to make a deal…If memory serves him right, it was Azul who had placed his jacket on top of Yuu when he accidentally fell asleep on the couch in the VIP Lounge. Yuu is a proud member of the Annoy Azul Club, being listed as “headache #3”. 

”Ah, it’s not about the Lounge this time. I’m certain you have heard of the assembly being held tomorrow for a surprise announcement?”

“Yeah…Are we really going on a trip? Do you know?” Yuu asked, looking back at the calm twin for a response. Jade simply smiles and pushes some hair behind Yuu’s ear.

”If we tell ya it won’t be a surprise! You just gonna have to wait and see shrimpy.” Floyd giggles, as he bared his teeth.

“Yes, where would the fun be if we told you? However…” Jade’s smile widens. His teeth are also showing. “If you really want to know, there will be a price to pay.”

Yuu gulps.

Before he could answer, Grim pops up in the lobby.

“Yuu! Quit flirtin’ with the look-alike twins! Im hungryyyy! Can we eat dinner already?” the cat monster huffed. Perfect timing Grim!

Getting up from the couch, Yuu takes this as a chance to escape from the twins.

”Oh right, sorry Grim! I’ll open two cans of tuna for you today. You deserve it for passing… Also, I was not flirting with them!” Yuu argues.

The twins get up as well, cackling as they follow the two ramshackle members. Clearing his throat, Yuu opened the kitchen cabinet filled with cans of tuna.

“Uh…did you guys eat already? I’m gonna make some beef stew tonight.”

Floyd and Jade look at each other, as if they were communicating with their minds (lowkey they probably are), then back at Yuu.

”Shrimpy’s food! I like the sound of that!” Floyd beams as he opens the fridge.

Jade sighs, ”Floyd, you can’t just open someone’s fridge without permission. Apologies on his behalf. We will be delighted to have some, Prefect.”

Yuu laughs as he scoops the tuna into Grim’s bowl. “It’s cool. You guys practically live here with how often you visit—Here Grim, don’t eat too fast!—And you know Jade, you and Azul can just call me Yuu. Or some weird nickname like Floyd does, heh.”

“Not shrimpy though! He’s only shrimpy to me!” shot Floyd as he gathers the ingredients from the fridge he assumed Yuu would need.

Jade chuckles as he takes off his uniform jacket to roll up his shirt sleeves. “As you wish…Yuu. I will inform Azul of this as well.”

With the twins helping out with cutting the veggies and picking out the seasonings for the meat with whatever Yuu had, the stew came out really good.

”Mmmm, Shrimpy’s food is the best!” praised Floyd. “Now I wanna see what else you can cook up!”

Jade hums in agreement. “This is quite delicious! The taste of the stew itself and the way beef just melts in the mouth is superb. Well done, Yuu! Maybe you can be our second lead chef.”

Yuu averts his eyes away from Floyd and Jade, he can feel his fingers slide off the spoon from his clammy hands. “A-ahaha…is-is it really that good?”

”Yuuup, and since you fed us, we can tell ya a bit about what’s up with the assembly now.” Floyd grins as he eats a piece of potato.

Grim looks between the trio and rolls his eyes.

”Wha—!? Feeding you counts?…Alright then, spill the beans. Are we going on a field trip or will it just be Crowley and the professors handing out achievements?” Yuu questions before eating a spoonful of rice.

”You were correct the whole time. We are indeed going on a trip. It is something the Headmage has not done for the school before and it will be quote…exhilarating. Octavinelle will be assisting in funds as well as travel expenses. That is all we will say.” Jade says, with the same smile as always, as he dabs his lips with a napkin.

Grim and Yuu share a look with each other.

”Well, it better not be boring! There ought to be lots of food and I wanna be able to run around too.” Grims exclaims, folding his arms.

Yuu pats his back, “I’m sure wherever we’re going it’ll be fun for us.”

Floyd and Jade share a laugh. Why are they being so ominous for…? 

“Oya, it’s getting late. It seems it is time for us to head back to the dorm, Floyd.” Jade says as he gathers the plates to wash.

Taping his phone screen, Yuu checks the time and woah…it’s already past 10 pm! Were they really here for three hours…?

”Awww mann. I don’t really feel like goin’ back! I wanna stay with shrimpy!” Floyd glooms as he reaches to hug Yuu’s arm.

Yuu smiles at the taller boy and pats his head. “It’s okay Floyd! We’ll see each other tomorrow and during work.”

Drying his hands with a towel nearby, Jade makes his way back to the dining table.

”Ah almost forgot. Yuu, if you don’t mind…” Jade says as he…grabs something from Floyd’s jacket pocket? “Would you be so kind as to give us a portion for Azul? I’m sure he would be delighted to try your cooking!”

”You guys really came prepared for this huh…Alright, Alright fine. Does he like a lot of potatoes?”

Saying goodbye to Floyd and Jade when they visit Ramshackle is an experience itself. Watching Jade drag a very sad Floyd is always funny to watch.
And this field trip… Yuu has not gone on a school field trip in a long time. The last trip he went on was at some amusement park during middle school…He can’t quite remember. A number was in the name and flags???

Whatever. Yuu just hopes that Crowley had better paid for an amazing ass school trip or this will quite literally be his last straw with that bird man.

Sighing, Yuu closes the door and meets with Grim in the lobby.

”Ace is right... You really do have a cru—“

”I DO NOT! HUSH GRIM.”

Chapter Text

The hallway was so crowded it was starting to get hard to breathe. Yuu’s shoulder was starting to ache as well from the weight of Grim holding on to him. Yuu adjusts his robe hood to see better as he navigates around excited students.

”Hench-human! I see them over there!” Grim says, pointing straight ahead. Squinting through the sea of people, Yuu spots his fellow classmates Ace, Deuce, Epel and Jack. 

Ace and Deuce are having their usual quarrel as Jack and Epel spectate. The lack of Sebek likely ment that he is already inside the designated area or…there was an issue with his horned Housewarden.

All students were directed to the gymnasium this morning by the professors in the Hall Of Mirrors. Yuu would have to assume it’s because everyone wouldn’t fit in the Mirror Chamber.

”I beg you all to stay within eyesight close to the gym and wait for instructions, mutts!”

Poor Crewel. He looked like he was greatly suffering as he quietly thought to himself, ‘This could have been a handout…’

Yuu looks around the hallway, on the lookout for a pair of 6 feet tall mer boys. He was to watch his back…they could be anywhere.

”Hey dude! You’re finally here!”  Ace yells out as he runs towards the Ramshackle members. “Where your boyfriends at? I thought they would have wanted to pick you up?”

“Ace! Ehem…Good morning, Yuu,” Deuce greets politely as he gives a quick nudge to Ace’s arm. In response, Ace sucks his teeth.

Jack snarls and shakes his head. “Ace, quit messing with the Prefect like that…Good morning, Prefect and Grim.”

”Mornin’ Yuu. I hope you didn’t have too much of a hard time makin’ your way through the crowd?” Epel asked as he gave a concerned look.

Grim snickers. “Myahaha! Yuu was havin’ a hard time undusting his robes! It was funny,” he says as he lands on the floor, fixing his robe.

The last time Yuu had worn his robes was when he was first brought into this school. That was about 5 months agos. Damn, time sure flies when you’re having fun in a world filled with pretty magical boys!

”I had to dust off yours too…” Yuu muttered. Sighing, he looks at his friends expecting them to poke fun at him. But instead was faced with terrified faces as they all looked behind the Prefect. Hold on…why are they backing away?

”Uh, what’s wrong? Did I put on the robe the wrong way?”

Then Yuu heard it. Quick paced footsteps and the sound of someone leaping into the air. Their heels clicking on the laminate flooring.

Oh no. They found him.

”SHRIMP-YYY!”

It was too late to escape now. Not like Yuu could even if he tried. He just closed his eyes, feeling his body be lifted up in the air and squeezed to death, accepting his fate. Then Yuu felt something sharp on his ear—WOAH HANG ON SEC.

”What the?! Floyd, are you biting my ear!?” Yuu yelps as he glares down at the taller boy, covering his ear with the long sleeve of the robe.

”Ahahahah!! Lil’ Shrimpy’s face is red like Goldfishie!”

Jade chuckles as he pats Yuu’s head before greeting the freshmen. “Good morning, everyone. I hope we are having a pleasant start of the day so far.”

Yuu’s eyes trail over at Floyd and Jade, with an unsteady breath. They were wearing their ceremonial robes like everyone else. But they somehow look so majestic in them. 

The House of Mouse. Were. Shook. 

Epel, Deuce and Jack’s eyes widened at the sight before them. Ace smirked at Yuu as he spoke up.

”Sup, Leech. We were just gonna be on our merry way inside the gym. Catch you later in history, Prefect,” Ace winks as he pulls on Duece’s arm. Epel and Jack silently give their condolences as they waved goodbye.

There was a sudden noise as the speakers within the hallway turned on.

”Is it working…? Yes? Alright!”

The hallway goes silent as they all gather closer to the gym to listen to the Headmage through the speaker. Grim hops onto Yuu’s shoulder again, so as to not get lost in the crowd. Yuu could feel Floyd and Jade huddle closer to them.

”Students of Night Raven College. If you have not been seated with your dorm mates inside the gymnasium, please do so in an orderly fashion,” Crowley orders, mic muffling from most likely his feathered coat.

Making their way into the gym, the tweels hold onto Yuu’s hands, leading him to where the Octavinelle students were all seated.

Looking around the gym, Yuu spots Pomefiore’s Housewarden and Vice Housewarden across the gym and waves at them. Vil and Rook nod and wave back. They seem to be doing better after what happened during the culture fair. And since then, Yuu now has two third years pestering him, making sure he takes care of himself with skincare products and proper meals.

”Come now, Yuu. Azul has been awaiting your arrival.” Jade says as the trio walk along the rows of seats. Passing by Heartslaybyul, Yuu waves at Riddle and the others. Ace smirked as Deuce side eyed the red head before saying hello back to the Prefect. Trey and Cater who sat beside their Housewarden looked confused.

‘Ah, they probably thought I would be sitting with them…’ Yuu guesses while being dragged along. Jade and Floyd catch sight of other students looking at them, mouths agape. They smirk and hold the shorter boy’s hands tighter.

“Heh, yeah. He’s been cryin’ ‘bout how he—“ Floyd snickers before being interrupted by someone clearing their throat.

“You better watch your next words…Floyd.”

It was Azul. He adjusts his glasses while glaring at the unhinged twin. Looking down, he softened his eyes when met with Yuu’s own.

”Ah, hello Pref- er Yuu…I’m glad you decided to join us for today’s assembly.” Azul coughs, adjusting his glasses once more.

’Not like I really had a choice here.’

Yuu blinks and gives Azul a tight smile, hands getting clammy. His breath hitches as he observes Azul. The octo mer looked great in the robes too. Yuu had seen him wear them before during his failed enrollment at orientation. It suits him nicely.

Noticing the boy staring, Azul’s cheeks tinted a noticeable soft pink.  “We-uh. EHEM. We should take our seats now! The assembly will begin shortly. Jade, on my left. Floyd, next to the Prefect and Grim on their right.”

”Okaayy~” “Of course.”

Oh boy…

”Everyone, please stay silent as I go through the slide show for today’s assembly,” Crowley says as he stands in the middle of the room, speaking loud and clear. “By the end of the presentation, you will be able to ask myself and Professor Crewel questions. Now…” Crowley says, as he snaps his fingers.

A giant floating board appears with bold words writing on its own that read, “NRC SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT”.

Yuu blinks rapidly and shakes his head. Right. Magic school…

“First, I would like to congratulate you all for passing your exams. I recognize that some of you have been suffering mentally from the overwhelming amount of work and for more…personal matters. From the first years, to the second years, and our third years.”

Azul’s hands clench on his lap. Yuu sees Jade softly places his own hand on Azul’s from the corner of his eye.

”And that is why…” Crowley pauses and nods to Crewel. The science professor presses on a tiny clicker that changes to the next slide on the board.

”Students of Night Raven College will be going on a field trip to Twisted Wonderland’s infamous theme park: The Enchanted Kingdom!”

On the slide it shows an array of photos of a theme park, showing off the different rides, foods, and mascots.

A particular mascot caught Yuu’s eye. It looks familiar…

The crowd of students go absolutely wild, making Yuu break from his thoughts. It was so loud he was sure the entirety of the Isle of Sages could hear them.

Heartslaybyul dorm simply clapped with the exception of Ace and Deuce, who were screaming. They were hella hyped. The duo were immediately chastised by Riddle to quiet down. Savanaclaw dorm were practically barking and howling. Leona’s ears flattened at how loud it got. Next to him was a snickering Ruggie and Jack, who sighed.

Pomefiore and Scarabia clapped and whistled. Vil cringes at sudden volume increase but is smiling nonetheless along with Epel and Rook. Kalim was so excited he jumped up from his seat! Jamil was quick to make him calm down. Ignihyde cheered and a floating tablet next to a very excited Ortho had a happy emoticon on its screen.

In the midst of the chaos, a disheveled Sebek and calm Lilia were dragging a very confused Malleus and an asleep Silver into the gymnasium to their seats. 

Octavinelle students clapped as if they were not surprised. Which made sense…they’re all employed at the Mostro Lounge after all and are funding the trip.

Floyd laughed hysterically, as he watched everyone. Jade laughs in amusement and Azul huffs in frustration from the commotion.

Yuu then feels his phone buzz. UGHH. Who’s texting him now?

Today 9:25 AM

Ace: Prefccttt

Ace: You hyped?? That you’re gonna have fun with your boyfriends on a cute park date??? LOLLL

Ace: Don’t get eaten! lollolol

Little shit…

”Are you pleased with the destination of our trip, Yuu? Grim?” Azul asks, smirking down at the Ramshackle dorm members.

Yuu jumps and turns off his phone so fast he almost dropped it on Grim’s face. “YEeahh. Yup. Looks cool. Super exciting. Mmhmm!”

Grim sits up on Yuu’s lap and grins at the octo mer. “Myhahaha! You bet! Can you believe it Yuu?! A theme park! I’ve never been to one but it looks so cool from the pictures. Look at all those tasty foods!” Grim chriped.

”BAD BOYS! QUITE DOWN. STAY!” yelled Crewel and he slaps his pointer down on the floor. The gym quickly silenced.

Crewel puts away his pointer and harshly pulls Crowley closer.

”Thank you Prof—AAH!”

“You see? Like a pack of untrained dogs! You expect them to behave in a place like that? For three days? Those mutts won’t last a day, I’m telling you Dire.” Crewel hissed, eyebrows furrowed at Crowley.

”Divus, I can assure you everything will turn out alright. Besides, as much as this hurts the school’s debt—ouch!”

”Really now? Money is what you care about right now?”

Crowley sighs. “No, of course not! Our students most certainly deserve something like this. As Headmage and you, one of our top professors, will make sure they are on their best behavior?”

Turning back to the students, Crowley beams a smile.

”Where were we? Ah yes! Our trip will last three days and we will return to campus the next morning after the third night. You may have noticed that some of your peers are not seated with you. Those who did not pass their exams and are extremely behind in assignments will not participate. Our many professors along with Professor Trein and Coach Vargas will stay behind for said students.”

Slide change.

“Each dorm will have their own bus, our form of transportation. Housewardens you will be in charge of the headcount for your bus. If you have friends who reside in a different dorm you will be able to be with them on the trip.”

A low voice close to his ear makes Yuu shiver in fear. He starts to sweat.

”You’re gonna be sittin’ with us Shrimpy…the whole way through…” Floyd giggles.

Eye twitch

Great! Yuu might as well be called caught prey!

“We will be leaving campus this upcoming Monday. I advise everyone to gather everything they need over the weekend and to make sure they are not missing any assignments. That is the end of the presentation! Any questions?”

Almost every student in the gym raised their hand. Yuu bites the inside of his mouth.

Yuu was so cooked…this assembly is going to last longer than one period.

“For the last time Pup, we have no idea if the seats have a cupholder...or a footrest. You are just going to have to wait and see for yourself.”

”What about a bathroom?”

Crowley perks up. “Good question! Yes, there will be a bathroom available in every bus.”

Epel starts to fidget with his hands. He looks up at Vil who is seated next to him. “Hey uh, Housewarden Vil? How much longer is this assembly going to be? I think I might pass out…”

Vil looks down at the younger boy and tries to squint at the clock near the entrance…ah. It’s too far to see.

“I…I am not too sure, Potato. Rook, what time is it?” Vil whispers softly to his partner.

”12:32, mon amour.”

Vil sighs. He glances across the gym and spots the Prefect seated with the Octavinelle dorm. His skin glowing under the fluorescent lights and his cheeks slightly flushed.

’Good. He’s using the kit I gave him…Hold on.’ Vil stops. Seated with Octavinelle and not Heartslaybyul, whom the Prefect is most close to? His Potato surely didn’t make a deal and is forced to stand beside them? The Prefect looks nervous as well, eyes shifting whenever those Leech twins and Azul made contact with him.

Vil does not usually stick his nose into other people’s business, however, this calls for an inquiry.

Chapter Text

The assembly lasted for 3 whole periods. The Headmage declared it to be a half day today, allowing students to be dismissed from classes after the lunch break period. Students made their way back to the dorms to change into their class uniforms.

Speaking of uniforms, it seems Crowley had also made plans to make a special dress code for school trips. They will be given out by the Housewardens the morning of the trip.

Grim and Yuu quickly made their way to the cafeteria, hoping to escape catch up with their friend group. 

The hustle and bustle of the cafeteria seemed more frantic with students smiling and laughing more than usual. Looks like this field trip lightened everyone’s mood up.

”Yuu, those guys are following you again. Walk faster—URK,” Grim rasped, patting on Yuu’s shoulder.

Before entering the cafeteria, Yuu inhales through his nose. Turning to face the tweels and the octo mer, they stopped in their tracks once Yuu looked at them. Were they following him this entire time from the hallway…?

”Is it cool if I sit with my other friends today? They’ve been texting me non stop since we left the gym, right Grim?” Yuu lifts his shoulder up slightly motioning for the cat to go along.

”Mya? Oh yeah. But we gotta hurry on the line before all the katsu sandwiches run out!”

Azul pushes his glasses up, “Hm, if that is what you wish.”

Placing a hand to chest, Jade smiles, “Let us join you on the line. I’d like to get my hands on all the mushroom dishes before they’re all gone.”

Floyd frowns and sticks his tongue out in disgust assuring Jade that he’s the only one in this school who eats up all the mushroom related foods it has to offer.

Azul stares at the food, uncertain of what he wants to eat. He perks up and turns to smile at the Prefect. 

“That reminds me, Yuu, that beef stew you made was delicious, I quite enjoyed it.”

Yuu is never going to get them off his back is he? Not that he minds their presence! It’s just a tad overwhelming having three boys who could kill him if they want to follow him everywhere he goes.

”I’m glad you liked it,” Yuu says, smiling back.

After getting their food, Yuu and Grim make a beeline to The House of Mouse table. Epel waves, carved apple in hand as a greeting. The other three just stare at Yuu as Grim settles between Ace and Deuce.

”Prefect…” Jack starts. “Is it true?”

Yuu stops mid cut of his steak, slowly looking up at the wolf boy. “W-what? What’s true?”

The freshmen look amongst each other.

“Are you romantically interested in Azul and the eel twins?” Deuce questions, poking at his carrots.

The world stops for a split second. What makes them think that? Twisting his head to the right he could see Azul, Floyd and Jade stare right at him. Sinister smiles on their faces.

”I told you guys. I. Do. Not.” Yuu protested. “They just follow me around and I just let them do whatever to me. If anything I think they might like me...a little too much.” Yuu says, pointing his thumb to his chest.

Ace smirks and points his fork at Yuu. “Oh yeah, they like you alright. But we think you like ‘em too.”

Rolling his eyes, Yuu takes a bite of his steak. “Pray tell, Trappola, why do you think I like them that way?”

”I’ve seen the way you look at them. And did you even hear yourself? You ‘let them so whatever’ to you?”, Ace barks out a laugh. “What the hell does that even mean!”

Yuu widens his eyes. Yuu…likes them? No that can’t be. He just happens to enjoy being around and joining them in their silly escapades. And thinks they’re really cool and really pretty and…and would love to cook for them again!

Oh. Oh no…

Yuu gets up from the lunch table bench, “I got to go!—Here Grim, you can eat my food!” he yells, pushing his plate to the cat monster.

”MYA?! YUU, WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!”

”DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT!”

Barging out of the cafeteria, Yuu speedwalks to the one trusted adult in this school he can go to for advice.

Professor Crewel.

”Hmm…I see. Well pup, let's step back and give this a bit of perspective. What do you feel when you are around those Octavinelle mutts?” Crewel asks before taking a bite of his lunch. It reminds Yuu of his homeroom teacher back at home when they would eat a container of salad in their classroom.

The classroom was clean with all the tables clear and papers stacked on Crewel’s desk that needed grading. It was not just the science professor and the Prefect in the room, but Vil and Rook were also here. The moment Yuu sat next to Crewel, they joined the conversation at the mention of the Octavinelle trio.

Are they that close to Crewel that they can just sit in his classroom during lunch?

“Uhh, nervous and tense I guess. My body starts to get all light and fluttery too…It’s weird. Like when Azul offers his arm for me to hold while we walk together, when Floyd calls out to me and runs to give me bone-crushing hugs, and Jade’s acts of service or when he shares his love for nature. They can be a little scary sometimes, but they’re really nice guys.”

Yuu furrows his brows and groans, tears threatening to fall, “God, this is so embarrassing. I like them. I really do. But…” Yuu exahles. “I just don’t know how to go about it. Do they even like me or are they just messing with me? This is Azul, Floyd and Jade we’re talking about.”

Vil and Crewel frown at the sight of Yuu.

”Non Non, Trickster! You should not persevere in your endeavors. That fluttering feeling of the heart is a sign of happiness. For that is la beauté de l’amour!” Rook exclaims with a theatrical pose, as he turns to give Vil a lovesick smile.

Yuu supposes Rook would know a thing or two about relationships. Vil and Rook only just recently got together, but they look happy.

Opening his pocket mirror Vil checks himself, “Rook is right, Potato. If they make you happy you should go for it. Being in a relationship does benefit your health after all.”

The model looks up at Yuu. “Just one thing I want to ask. You did not make a deal with Azul that so happened to push you to be romantically involved with them?”

“No. No deal was made,” Yuu affirms. “I think…I’m going to shoot my shot. No use in running from it, right?”

Professor Crewel hums in thought, hand on his chin. “From what I know, merfolk express their interest in others by “showing off”, gifting them trinkets or offering food. In other words, courting. That could be a good start, pup.”

Yuu blushes and jumps up from his seat. “I got it! Thank you Professor Crewel, Vil, and Rook!” He gives Vil and Rook a tight hug. They hug back, patting their underclassman’s back. Yuu then moves to hug Crewel who pats his head in return.

”Good boy! I’m relieved that you were able to find clarity and motivation. Should you ever need training, all you need to do is sniff out my scent to find me. Is that understood?”

Yuu backs away and takes his leave from the lab, “Yes, Professor. See you around Vill, Rook. I have to make a trip to Sam’s—“

”Ah, one last thing pup.”

Yuu turns a heel, looking back at the science professor, “Yes?”

”Are you aware that you were assigned to the Octavinelle bus? Don’t tell me our Headmage did not inform you of this…that Dire I swear…”

”Oh, joy! Alright, well, now I know. Have a good rest of your day, thank you again.” Yuu bows his head before closing the door.

Must have been Azul’s doing. That slimy octo mer.

Listening to Yuu’s footsteps getting quieter, Vil sighs. Rook giggles as he rubs his lover’s shoulder. ”That Potato of mine is going to be the death of me. Of all people, it had to be Azul and those twins…”

Croweley sets aside his finished lunch and grabs a report from the pile next to him. ”Not to worry puppy, should anything happen to him I will be sure to discipline those Octavinelle mutts.”

’And that damn Dire needs discipline himself…’ Crowley fumed, gripping his pen a bit tighter.

The cafeteria was starting to unpack, with students making their way back to their dorms or to hang out elsewhere. Ace leaned up against the wall, a smug look on his face.

”So, what did you want to say Ace?” Deuce asked.

”If the Prefect starts going out with Azul and the Leech’s by Wednesday night…you guys owe me 20 Thaumarks. Each.” Ace dared.

”WHAT?!” Epel and Deuce yelped.

Epel bites the inside of his cheek. “F-fine. I wouldn’t even have to bet if it would mean seein’ the Prefect happy! I’m sure Vil and Rook would say the same if they were here.”

”Yeah, I agree”, Deuce nods, crossing his arms.

Jack huffed. ’This is going to be a long trip…’

Chapter Text

The weekend flew by in a heartbeat. It was already Sunday afternoon, which means the dorms are making their final preparations for the field trip.

Grim decided to hang out with the boys at Heartslabyul today, which gave Yuu some time for himself to begin cooking before his last shift at the Lounge.

Opening the fridge, Yuu takes out a specially wrapped raw cod. Sam had a sale on some of his food items before he ordered his restock. And luckily for the Prefect, he managed to nab some ingredients and spices along with the fish. If Yuu wants to continue making meals for the Octa-trio than he had better make sure he was fully invested in cooking.

Yuu decided to make them lemon butter cod, a recipe he had seen while scrolling on Magicam. It was simple but Yuu thinks they will enjoy it.

”Okay, let’s get started!”

Cracking his fingers, Yuu grabs his trusty bowl, mixing the flour and seasonings with a whisk. Then he spreads the mixture over the cod fillets.

Turning on the skillet, Yuu melts the butter and adds some oil to the pan. Carefully dropping the fillets into the pan, Yuu cooks them until they’re golden brown on all four sides.

”Oho, well would you look at that! That looks amazing Prefect. I’m assuming it’s for those boys that visit often?” one of the Ramshackle ghosts said, hovering over.

Removing the sauté from the heat, Yuu pours it over each cod fillet. “Heh, yup. I thought it would be a good idea since they allowed me to work at Mostro Lounge. It’s the least I could do. And also…maybe because I care about them.”

Opening the cabinet, Yuu takes out three bento boxes, all picked out for each boy. Azul’s box is a sparkly pastel purple box with music notes, Floyd gets a blue box with different sea creatures and Jade’s box is turquoise with mushrooms and flower prints all over.

Serving the cod and already made rice (shaped like fish, if you wanted to know) into each box, Yuu starts to cut some fruit and vegetables.

Wiping the sweat off his forehead, Yuu takes a step back from his work and looks at the time.

”Oh shit, I have to go! Bye Ghosts, if Grim comes back early let him know I went to work!” Yuu says as gathers his bag and the bento boxes.
The ghosts watch Yuu rush out the door and laugh, “Ah, young love.”

Rushing through campus, Yuu finally makes it to the Octavinelle dorm.

”Shrimpy! Almost a minute late. Azul would have gotten on your case, but since you’re Shrimpy he probs would’a let it slide, ehe.” Floyd grins, watching Yuu scramble to clock in.

”Ugh, would he…?”

Yuu pants, ‘I just have to make it til four, and then strike!’

The Lounge was quite busy this afternoon, with students coming to enjoy a nice meal before it closes early. As Yuu walked back and forth all around taking orders and cleaning tables, he suffered through the stares of two eel mers. And every now and then, a hyena who gave them a questionable look.

Once it reached 4 PM, Yuu rushed to the bar, walking past his co-workers and patrons making their leave. Jade looked about finished with his cleaning as he stored the last glass.

”Oya, such a determined look. Is there something you need Yuu?”

“I have a surprise for you guys, come with me,” Yuu whispers, grabbing the eel mer’s hand.

Taken aback, Jade’s smile falters at the hand contact. They both head to the locker room to find Floyd and Azul talking…? It looked more like Floyd trying to bite Azul’s cheek and the poor octo mer fighting for his life than anything.

”Floyd, stop trying to bite me! You will sit next to me and on our way back you—ah Yuu, Jade. We were just talking about our seating arrangements.  Is there any strife with sitting with us, my dear?”

My dear?! Yuu is going to pass out at this rate. He tightens his grip on Jade’s hand on instinct, making the tweel smile. Clearing his throat, Yuu let go of his hand.

”Nah, it’s fine. I don’t mind—Oh uh, I have a gift. For you three. It’s in my bag.”

”A gift?”

Standing side by side, the mermen watch Yuu’s every move. Unzipping his bag, Yuu takes out the bento boxes, handing them their own box.

”Here. It’s not perfect but I tried following a recipe I thought you three might like.”

Boxes in hand, the boys freeze. The Prefect had made them another meal. A cute looking one at that.

“Shrimpy's foood~ Aha ha. I was hopin’ you’d make us more~ And this box is so cute, look at the little fishies.” Floyd says as he opens the bento box. “And you molded the rice!? Shrimpppyyy!”

Jade stares at his own in amusement, taking in the sight of the homemade meal and mushroom print on the box before digging in. “Oh my, this is quite adorable, I must agree.”

”You…made this for us?” Azul questions, sheepishly locking eyes with the boy.

”Mmhm. Try it.” Yuu smiles.

Azul shakily opens his and takes a bite of the cod. Humming with delight, Azul closes his eyes as he chews.

”Delightful. I’d like to have more when the time comes,” Jade says, licking his lips.

”Mmmm, same here…Ya’ know Shrimpy, you been real sweet to us lately. I wonder why~?” Floyd cooed, flashing his teeth towards Yuu.

Azul and Jade chuckled.

”Hmm yes, I wonder why indeed?” Jade says, tilting his head.

”Could it be perhaps…you wish to gain something in exchange from us?” Azul smirks, stepping closer to the Prefect, glasses glaring from the lights above. What happened to shy Azul? Why did he get so confident all of a sudden?!

“Ahah, well you know me! Alwayssss uh— Always doing nice things for other people!” Yuu gulps. Before Floyd and Jade could say anything else to fan the flames, Yuu’s phone buzzes.

Turning it on, Yuu sees messages from Ace, informing him that his not-pet-pet cat was crying for him. Looks like they brought Grim back home early themselves. What a save! He can always count on his friend’s impeccable timing.

”Grim wants me home. I’ll see you guys tomorrow! Can’t wait to have fun at the park,” Yuu spluttered as he grins at the three mermen.

”Aw already? Can’t ya stay a lil’ longer? If you leave I’m gonna catch ya and squeeze ya!” Floyd frowns as he approaches Yuu.

”ACK! NO FLOYD WAIT!”

It took some time to calm and reassure Floyd, but in the end they wished Yuu a good night. They will arrive at Ramshackle in the morning to pick up both the Prefect and Grim just in time for them to leave together, Azul told him.

Walking through the campus street, Yuu smiled from ear to ear. His heart fluttered as he remembered the satisfied looks on the boys’ faces that he developed an infatuation with.

Opening the entrance door to his dorm, Yuu gasps as he is greeted by a crowd of people in his living room.

“What the hell is going on here?! You guys are having a party, in my dorm, without me?”

Looking over at his guest, Yuu smiles. The Singular Braincell duo were here, along with Vil and Rook who both sat on the couch.

”Hench-human there you are! You’re late!” Grim yowls. running to hug his dorm mate’s leg.

”Sorry Grim, I had to do something after work.”

Ace snickers but is cut off by Deuce hitting him with his elbow. “OW! Dude, your elbow is sharp—“

Vil sighs and shakes his head. Turning to the Prefect he hands him a bag, “Apologies, Potato, for coming here uninvited. Rook and I brought some products for you. It will be sunny where we are going, so it is in your best interest to take good care of yourself.”

Taking the bag, Yuu looks through its contents. A reusable water bottle, a bottle of perfume and sunscreen.

”Aw, thanks Vil. But…why perfume?”

Rook smiles and takes the bottle from the boy’s hands. “May I, Trickster?”

Allowing the hunter to spray the perfume on his wrist, Yuu smells the scent. “Woah, that smells so good! Did you make this?”

Vil smirks and places his hands on his hip. “Of course. I made it especially for you, no one is capable of receiving this kind of treatment from me you know? I will be expecting you to use it frequently.”

Ace and Deuce start to look in the bag too. Deuce holds the water bottle, agreeing that it’s a good idea and that he should bring his own.

”Yeah and a certain group of sombodies will enjoy it too,” Ace says as he motioned his head at the bottle of perfume.

Vil turns to the freshmen slowly then at Yuu. “They… are aware?”

Yuu sighs, body strained from work. “Yup. Ace was the first to figure it out actually. And since you’re all here, I might as well tell you what happened today.”

Gathering around the Ramshackle dorm lounge, Yuu tells his friends his ‘attempt at wooing the Octavinelle trio’. He didn’t exactly say that out loud, but the Pomefiore couple understood what he wanted to say.

Monday morning was chaotic as how Yuu envisioned it would be. He felt like he was going to die.

It started with Floyd and Jade somehow getting inside the Ramshackle dorm, with Azul right behind (they practically ran over there). Grim screamed like he was going to get murdered (Yuu doesn’t blame him honestly) and was then dragged down to the dorm lobby where they had left their baggage. On top one of the suitcases was a white bag.

Floyd opens the white packaging and presents Yuu and Grim matching accessories that serve as this trip’s uniform. The bag flew up to the ceiling and Jade caught it swiftly when it reached his level.

It was a lavender headband with big round ears that matched Octavinelle's vibe, with an elegant white bow right in the middle. For grim, he was given a pair of sunglasses and a bow that had a similar design to the headband. Both Yuu and Grim wasted no time trying them on. Yuu helped Grim replace his striped bow for the white one.

”Mrow! These look great! Do the other dorms have something like these too? I wanna see Ace and Deuce with big ears MYAHAHA!” Grim bubbled as he tried on the sunglasses. “Ooo, they fit perfectly!”

Azul smiled down at Grim, watching him excitedly jump around. He then reveals his own pair of ears along with Floyd and Jade.

Yuu snickers at the sight, covering his mouth with his hand. “Wow, how charming! I’m curious about the other dorms too.”

”Ah, well the other dorms have the headbands as well, to match the theme of their dorm of course. Aside from Savanahclaw, who have the sunglasses since, for most…already have ears. Professor Crewel had contacted the park to make special designs for our school,” Azul explains.

“Huh, now that I'm looking, the ears kinda suit you Shrimpy. Maybe you were a mouse in your past life, heh heh heh,” Floyd jests as he throws himself onto Yuu.

Looking up at the clock, Jade smiles. “It would be best if we made our way back to the school building. All students meet at the Mirror Chamber as we await for the Headmage. From there we will go through the mirror and take our bus from there.”

”Jade’s right. We have about three hours before our departure. Come along now boys, let’s assist Yuu and his weasle with packing.”

”M’kayyy / Of course!”

“By the way, dear, you smell lovely. Is Vil experimenting his perfume on you?”

Yup, Yuu is going to die for sure.

Following the road to the school, Floyd kicks a rock. His shoulders were slumping and he had his hands in his pocket.

”Ughhh, I’m bored!”

“What—?! Already? We haven’t even made it to the school or even yet the buses!” Azul gawked.

“Why’re we even goin’ by bus anyway? Why can’t we just go through the mirror? Like, we tell it where we wanna go, right? Then bada bing bada boom! We’re at the park!”

Hearing the expression Floyd uses, Yuu bursts out laughing. Jade giggles as well, Azul on the other hand sighs in disappointment.

Grim mumbles as he squints at the mermen. “Why are we going on buses?”

“I believe it is for security reasons. We are going to a public space after all. There will be normal everyday land dwellers enjoying their time at the park as we are.”

“Guess that makes sense…” Floyd huffs.

Walking in silence, Yuu could see the school building from afar…then it hit him.

“Did you guys just leave your dorm mates on their own at the school?” Yuu asked, raising an eyebrow.

The trio laugh, sending a shiver down his and Grim’s back.

”They’ll know what’s coming for them once they start acting up.” Floyd warns, as he gives Yuu a teeth filled smile.

Yuu could only pray for those Octavinelle students and that will be alright on their long journey on the bus.

The halls upstairs of the college were crowded with students who were looking forward to the field trip. Searching for his beloved group of friends, Yuu hears a familiar voice.

”Potato, there you are.”

It was Vil, with no Rook by his side this time. If you listen closely, you can hear Floyd thank the Sea Witch under his breath.

Smiling at the model, Yuu runs up to him. “Hey Vil! I hope you had a decent morning. Are you excited?”

Vil pats his underclassmen’s head softly, “It was as decent as it could be…I’m not necessarily too excited myself due to our…last trip to an amusement park. But despite my feelings, I will do my best to stay positive for my dorm.”

He then looks at the boys who stood closely behind. ”Azul, Leech twins, good morning. I hope you aren’t causing the Prefect too much trouble?”

”Dear me, we would never! Not to our beloved Prefect! Why, he will be accompanying us on our trip.” Azul says, smiling politely at Vil.

”So I’ve heard…I must get going. Rook will start to cause a panic again if I don’t go back to him. Did you put on that sunscreen I gave you, Potato? Is it in your luggage?”

Yuu giggles as Vil inspects his face. “Yes! Heeheeh! Yes, Vil. Don’t worry I did.”

”Alright then. Take care, my Potato. You as well Grim.” The Pomefiore Housewarden makes eye contact with Azul, almost like a warning.

Watching Vil gracefully take his leave, the Octavinelle trio look down at the Prefect with curiosity.

”Didn’t know ya were actually that close with Betta, Shrimpy. When did that happen?” Floyd wonders as he rubs the ears of the headband on his head.

”I’m quite curious myself,” Jade adds as he smooths Yuu’s clothing to get rid of wrinkles.

”A series of…tragic events had to occur for me to be friends with a guy like that…”

Grim pats Yuu's face with his paw, “I think I can see Ace and Deuce!... Erm, Hench-human?”

”Yes Grim, you can be with them if you want. I’m not against it. Just make sure you don’t make Riddle pass out from turning red. Promise?”

“Promise!”

Yuu smiles at the cat monster, “Good. Let’s go deliver your tuna to Trey then. I trust him more with them than the others to be honest.”

”Allow me to keep you company Yuu,” Jade offers, placing his hand on his chest.

”O-okay!” Yuu stammers as Jade gently guides him and Grim around, hand in hand. From afar you could hear Azul screech at Floyd’s advances to take a bite out of him.

Spoting the Heartslabyul Housewarden, Vice-Housewarden and Cater, the trio greets them. Riddle jumps slightly, but sighs in relief when he realizes it was Jade and not Floyd.

They thankfully agreed to take in Grim with open arms.

”Ramshackle was assigned to be seated with Octavinelle…But I suppose this is alright. I don’t mind.”

”I’m fine with that too.”

Cater nods in agreement, “Of course. This will be #SoMuchFun!”

Grim looks around frowning, “Hey, where’s Ace n’ Deuce?” Hearing footsteps coming their way, the Ramshackle students turn. It was Ace and Deuce and…they were bickering. Again.

”I said I wanted the window seat! You can get it when we come back!”

“But I would prefer to have it today—Oh.”

Ace hums in confusion as Deuce slightly picks up his head. Looking towards his field of vision…Ace understands now. The Prefect was holding someone’s hand. And that someone was Jade Leech. Oh man, this is getting good!

”Yo! How’s it going? You guys hyped?” Ace said, bumping his fist with Yuu’s free hand.

”Hell yeah! Oh, Grim will be sitting with you guys by the way. Jade and I have to go back to Azul and Floyd now. Have fun!”

Ace and Deuce nod and give a knowing look. “Bye Yuu, we’ll text you and send you pictures.”

Dragging Jade hand in hand and saying goodbye to his friends, Yuu looks up at the taller boy. He doesn’t look back but continues to smile. Yuu could feel Jade’s thumb rub against his hand.

Waiting for the arrival of their Headmage was something to be expected. In front of The Dark Mirror was a pissed off Crewel, holding his phone to his ear. Yuu assumed he was on a call with Crowley.

”Please hurry. We are on a tight schedule…the pups are shaking and they might—You…You’re on your way?”

Magically the Headmage somehow flies down from the ceiling with his luggage and over the top outfit. An unimpressed Crewel puts his phone away, turning to face the crowd of students.

”Everyone! I hope you are all fully prepared. Remember, this is a three day trip. We will be staying at the hotel within the area of the amusement park. If you leave any items that you have brought, you will not be able to get it back. Understood?”

”Yes Headmage.”

”And please, for the love of the seven, behave yourselves. Respect the bus drivers and park staff. Am I clear, puppies? Now, stand in pairs in front of the mirror.”

”Yes Professor Crewel…”

Shuffling over together in formed lines, students pair up together by dorm. Azul and Floyd stood in front, as they slowly walked up to the mirror. With a hand on the small of Yuu’s back, Jade gently guides him to the mirror. There was a flash of light and before Yuu was a row of buses.

”Oh my god. Even the buses match the dorms…that’s so cute,” Yuu snorts, while following the Octavinnelle students. Walking by Savanaclaw, Yuu could hear a student excitedly point out the fact the buses do indeed have cupholders…and a footrest. "Good for them," Yuu guesses.

From the corner of his eye he could see a blob of black and white striding towards them.

”I will be joining you pups for the bus ride to our destination. I expect you all to be on your best behavior under my watch,” Professor Crewel states as he eyes the boys who stood beside the Prefect. One by one, the students fill up the vehicle in an orderly fashion.

And dear lord, were these buses fancy! These weren’t your typical couch buses. It felt like being inside a limo or a party bus…not that Yuu has ever been in one but it felt like it!

The seats were cushioned and some areas had a foldable table…oh the cupholders are on the tables! There was even a more secluded area of the bus close to the front door which is where Professor Crewel had instructed them to sit. 

”Would you like the window seat? Please, allow me to take your bag.” Jade offers as he grabs Yuu’s bag off his shoulder. He elegantly slings the baggage inside the overhead storage cabinets.

”Thank you, Jade!”

“It is my pleasure, dear.” Oh boy…him too?!

Floyd does the same for Azul, all the while teasing him on his short height. “My pleasure, dear~ Hehehe,” Floyd teases in a low voice. Azul scowls and hits him on the arm as they sit down.

”Hey Azul…” Floyd whispers in the octo mer’s ear. “You noticed, Striped Beakfish been staring at us the whole time. We did something wrong?”

Azul glances at the professor who walked to sit near them right after his talk with the bus driver, who glanced right back. He took note on the way Crewel gave a slightly worried look at the Prefect.

”Perhaps, he’s just testing us. It is nothing more than to see if we can prove ourselves as dorm leaders.”

Floyd gives Azul a disbelieving look, “If ya say so.”

The bus ride was surprisingly relaxing. It was mostly due to Professor Crewel’s presence, but nonetheless it was nice. For most of the trip, Yuu would enjoy the scenery out the window with Jade, admiring the mountains and flora that passed by. They drank tea that was provided by the bus company, played some board games, gossip about other students. And every now and then Yuu would giggle and show the Octa-trio funny pictures his friends from the other dorms would send them.

“We should have a group chat too! I wanna send Shrimpy funny pictures,” Floyd suggests as he waved his phone.

“Yeah, we should! Hold on, I think I have the perfect name for us. Give me your number.”

Passing along his phone, Jade, Azul, and Floyd punched in their numbers. Once it was returned to him, Yuu created the group chat and named it…

“Azul’s Three hearts🩵💚❤️”

Floyd and Jade stifle with laughter as Azul’s face turns crimson. “Y-you! Ugh, you three drive me crazy, you know that?” Azul says as his glasses slightly fog from the heat on his face. Yuu thought he looked pretty like that. Starting to feel drowsy, Yuu covers his mouth as he yawns.

”Are you tired? You should take a nap. We’ll be sure to wake you when we arrive.” Azul insisted.

Nodding, Yuu rests his head on Jade's shoulder. The taller boy wraps his arm around the Prefect’s waist to pull him closer.

“Pleasant dreams, our sweet pearl…”

The sound of laughter and the smell of pastries filled the bus. Trey was able to bake everyone a batch of fresh fruit tarts for his dorm mates to eat for the bus ride.

”Mm, damn Trey these are so good!” Ace said while chewing. “Oh sweet, I almost got bingo!”

The students of Heartslabyul and Grim were currently in the middle of a game of bingo with playing cards at the front of the bus. The topic of Yuu and the Octavinelle trio come up when Cater shows the group various photos of the amusement park. One of them showed a couple.

“I hope the Prefect is doing okay. I swear, if those guys hurt him…” Deuce grumbles as he looks through his deck of cards.

”Mya, he’ll be fine. I made sure to give ‘em all nasty looks before leaving. I can bite their ankles too if they do something!” Grim exclaims as he draws a card. “And ‘sides, isn’t Crewel with them? He’d probably get to them first. Hench-human should be fine.”

Riddle takes a bite of tart and glares at his dorm members. “As much as I dislike those Octavinelle scoundrels, there will be no fighting prohibited in the park or it’s off with your heads! In addition, we must respect the Prefect and his questionable choice of affection!”

Cater giggles, “Now that’s worth posting on Magicam! Those four are the talk in Night Raven right now! They’re totes adorable together! #RelationshipGoals #MagiLove.”

Trey grins as he nods, “That’s right. I’m sure those guys know what they’re doing. I trust Jade.”

”Wow, noticed how he said Jade and not the other two? That’s some crazy work of favoritism right there.” Ace deadpans before gasping. “Aw yeah, and that’s bingo!”

Meanwhile on the Pomefiore bus…

”Dagnabbit, I really wish I could sit with the others…I bet they’re all having a grand ol’ time…” Epel sniffled, watching the notifications from the group chat flashing on his phone.

”Epel, sit up straight! And stay still, you’re going to mess up my work.”

”Urghhh, yes housewarden…”

Chapter Text

The sounds of waves could be heard from within earshot. The ocean glimmered as the sun hit the water. It made it look like there were stars in it.

Yuu could feel sand between his toes as he walked along the shoreline. He looks down to see seashells laid out on the sand. He watches the waves.

When the water moved backwards a shell appeared. It was a nautilus shell. 

”Yuu!”

The Prefect perks up from the call of his name. He turns to see Azul, Floyd, and Jade approach him.

They looked just as beautiful as the ocean. Yuu blinked and suddenly they were underwater.

Yuu always liked seeing their mer forms, their true forms. They glowed in the dark blue waters as if they had glitter on them.

Azul would never show his octo form often. But when he did, Yuu thought that he was the most beautiful boy. The tweel loved showing off their eel forms. Floyd and Jade would often invite Yuu for a swim in the dorm pool.

As Yuu admired them, he felt hands reach out to him. One on the back of the neck, one his cheek, and the waist. The tweels wrap their turquoise body around the Prefect.

They were cold to the touch and it sent shivers all throughout Yuu’s body. But the touches were gentle, they meant no harm. Yuu knows they would never lay a finger on him.

Yuu wanted to stay like this forever. To be held softly by the mermen who he hoped saw him the same way as he does.

”The view is nice.”

Azul and the twins look down at the shorter boy. ”It is.” Azul said as he brushed his thumb over Yuu’s cheek. He leans into the touch.

“Hey, Shrimpy. If you don’t wake up soon you’ll miss out on all the fun, Eheh~ I’ll draw on your face if ya don’t!”

“Heh, heh, heh. Oh my, that will certainly be a funny sight to see!” Jade chuckles, grinning down at the Prefect.

Azul grits his teeth. “Boys! Did you seriously have to ruin the moment? Professor Crewel informed us that we are just 5 minutes away. Floyd, put that marker away! Give it here!”

Even in his dreams they act the same…

Wait. Dream?

“Shrimpyyyyyy! Wake up! I’m gonna go crazy here if I have to hear these two yap my ear off!”

Stirring against the body Yuu had decided to risk sleeping on top of, he grumbles. Floyd continually pokes Yuu on his shoulder. There was a faint smell of marker in the air.

”Are you awake? Apologies for waking you this way. We are almost at our destination. You are quite the heavy sleeper.” Jade remarked.

Sitting up, Yuu rubs his eye. He looks out the window to catch sight of a white and blue castle. It looked pretty much like Royal Sword Academy by how pristine it looked. The engine of the bus dies down as it stops.

Students of the Octavinelle dorm stare in awe of their surroundings. Yuu realizes that they probably have never been to a place like this before as most of them lived down in the Coral Sea. This was all new to them. And that is no exception to Azul and the Leech twins.

”Attention, Muts. We have arrived at the park. Once we step out of this bus, we will be given our passes and are to be escorted by the staff to the hotel.” Crewel says.

Grabbing their luggage and bags, the Night Raven College students make their way to the front gate. Yuu spots Grim, Ace, and Deuce.

”YUU! / PREFECT!” They yell, waving their arms. Yuu smiles, waving back at his friends. Grims hops off of Deuce’s shoulder, trotting his way towards Yuu. Ace then points to his phone, signaling the Prefect to look at his own.

Ace: Yuu! You’re alive !!!

Yuu: Ummm yeah?? Why would I not be?

Ace: Idk. I thought they were gonna eat u in there. Like for lunch or smth

Yuu: Wow dude.

Jack: They didn’t hurt you right?

Yuu: No they didn’t. I know you don’t really trust them but don’t worry! I’ll be just fine Jack :)

Jack: Alright. Still, if they hurt you in any way... You know who to call.

Yuu: Thanks Jack. I’ll give you guys updates later

Ace: Oh. I see. Being all buddy buddy with jackie boy and not me? Your best friend?

Ace: Why don’t I ever get a smiley face when u text me???

Yuu: loll Because. You piss me off sometimes,, love u tho

Ace:I bet those three love you too

Sliding his phone back in his pocket after reading that last horrid text from Ace, Yuu waits in line to get his pass. He looks around and notices that he can’t see anyone else but a sea of NRC students. No small children and parents in sight lined up along with them.

Yuu did not remember Crowley ever mentioning that he reserved the whole park to themselves…Something seems off…

Feeling a tug on the bottom of the pants, Yuu looks down at a grinning Grim.

”Myhahaha! Guess what, Hench-human! I ate a whole buncha tarts Trey made and then we played games too! Ya shoulda been there.”

Yuu smiles at the cat monster. “I’m glad you had fun. It’s a good thing you came to me. I think we’re supposed to get our passes together.”

The line moves fast with students making their way inside the entrance to the park.

”We hope you have the utmost enchanting experience! Please, make your way to the station. Here’s your map.” The staff member beams, as she hands Yuu his pass and  a map that showed all the attractions, gift shops, and restaurants. The pass was card that had a drawing of the main mascot of the park held by a blue lanyard. He had big round ears and below him read “Passholder”.

He looked just like Mickey! But…not quite.

”Heh, this guy looks funny. Ummm, what was his name again, Azul?”

Putting the lanyard around his neck, Azul turns to Floyd. “His name is Topolino. He is…the ‘king’ of this place. Topolino was the first cartoon character to reach mass popularity in Twisted Wonderland. Humans apparently adored him so much that they made a whole amusement park dedicated to him. I must say, that is quite a business strategy.”

Huh…sounds familiar.

Azul adjusts his glasses. “Perhaps, we should make a mascot ourselves? What do you all think?”

Jade smiles, placing his left hand on his chest. “Splendid idea, Azul. Let’s make it a amanita muscaria. It would surely capture the hearts of our patrons.”

“Naw, let’s not…” Floyd gags, scrunching his face. “How about a shrimp? Like our lil’ Shrimpy here! How ‘bout it Shrimpy? Wanna be the face of the Lounge?”

“Uhh—“

The sound of trumpets and a booming cheerful voice of a man on the speaker interrupts the Prefect.

”Your attention, please! The Enchanted Kingdom passenger train, now loading on track number one. For a trip around his Majesty’s Enchanted Kingdom! Students of Night Raven College, we hope you have an enchanting time!”

A black and red train pulls up to the station. It was a really long train, with at least ten carts. Its doors open for everyone to get on.

Whimsical music starts to play. It was a high spirited song that consisted of sounds from a trumpet, trombone, drums and a whistle. Like something from an old cartoon.

”Woah, look at that ride over there!” an Octavinelle boy gasps. “Look at the Main Street! And-and all those food stands!” another boy marveled. Grim’s eyes sparkle as watches the view from the window.

The park was colorful and bright. There was not a sight of dullness around them…It was kinda starting to hurt Yuu’s eyes a little.

”Ya think they got any water rides here?” Floyd asks, placing his arm behind Azul on the top rail of the seat.

”They definitely should. There’s a park that’s kinda similar to this one back in my world…a little too similar.” Yuu answers, muttering the last part.

”Ehhh, really? Tell us more Shrimpy!”

Looking out the window, Yuu tells Floyd and the others about said park. He admits that he’s been to it once in his life when he was child. There were certain rides that had never been on either as they would always update the parks. Back in his world, Yuu would watch videos and vlogs of other people’s experiences. 

Yuu expresses how much he thought the park was cool and how he grew up with the characters that were featured. The boys listened attentively as Yuu babbled on.

Grim side eyes them (he’s been doing this a lot lately, this sassy cat). He can’t wait to tell Ace and Deuce about this.

The octo mer sitting beside the Prefect turns to Jade, who sat at the opposite end from Floyd.

”Jade. Floyd. Be sure to take note of every dish and confectionary you get your hands on. We need to use this trip as an opportunity to make new ideas for our menu. You as well, Prefect.” Azul instructed, folding his leg.

“Aww mannnn. You makin’ us do work? What happened to the four of us havin’ a vaycay? Vibe ruined…” Floyd peeved, his leg began to bounce from irritation.

Azul sighs. “In exchange for getting to eat and buy whatever your heart desires, you help me improve our menu. Deal?”

The tweels look at each other. The screeching noise of the breaks is loud as the train comes to a stop.

”Dear passengers, this stop is…Callisto Resort. Staff members will escort you to the hotel.

”Fine…” / “Very well…”

Oh, Azul. Not a thought of relaxation in that poor workaholic head of his.

Yuu could not stop gawking at the sight before him. Yuu had never been to a resort before. His family never could have afforded to go to one.

He would be lying if he said that he wasn’t excited. And what better way to spend this exciting trip at a cartoon themed park with three mafia mermen that Yuu had embarrassingly big crushes on?

The hotel building itself looked like a whole mansion. In front of the building was a small garden and a grand fountain in the middle.

”Woooahhh, we’re really stayin’ here? This place is huge and so fancy lookin’—Erm… What’s going on over there?” Grim wonders.

Raising an eyebrow at the cat, Yuu looks to see exactly what Grim was looking at.

Standing by the entrance were people in ensamble uniforms. Music starts to play from…somewhere…and a man stands in the middle.

”Students of Night Raven College. On behalf of our King, we thank you. It is an honor to have you take your time to enjoy the wonders of our Kingdom. Now introducing you to our majesty, King Topolino!”

What.

The crowd of people start singing.

“—Here come Topolino! Here we go, we’re marching and we’re shouting merrily! T-O-P-O-L-I-N-O! We prepare, and we work hard, and we’re in harmony! T-O-P-O-L-I-N-O! ~”

The hotel doors open, revealing an average height figure. Its silhouette was far from human.

What. Thee. Fuck.

There stood Topolino. An anthropomorphic mouse that wore a fancy black sparkly tuxedo. His big round ears on his head stood out the most, making it the main charming point of his character. Was this someone wearing a costume? Yuu couldn’t tell, he might be a little delusional…but he swears that he can see the mouth of this costume move as it smiled.

Honestly, Yuu really shouldn’t be surprised if what he believes comes out to be true, considering the world he was transported to.

”Hey everybody! It’s me, Topolino! Oh boy, well ain’t it swell to be able to meet you all today! Are we ready to have an enchanting time? Yes? Alright! Ah, Headmage Crowley! It is a pleasure to meet you! Ha-ha!”

Topolino grabs both of Crowley’s hands and shakes them. Crowley perks his head, “Ah? Ahhhhhh, yes. It is a pleasure to meet you as well er…your majesty…!”

’Enchanting’…they just loooove throwing around that word huh…’ Yuu thinks, rolling his eyes.

Yuu doesn’t know why. All of sudden, he doesn’t feel as excited anymore.

”And you must be Mr. Crewel. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well! Hot dog! You look really excited to be here, ha-ha!” Wow, okay.

Crewel smiles politely, “Of course. Nice to meet you. It’s an honor to be here.” His voice wobbles as the mouse shakes his hands vigorously with excitement.

The talking mouse ushers everyone inside, giving them a general guide of the lobby. The floors and walls were clean and shiny. Carpets were laid all around, creating pathways to all the different rooms in the hotel. The windows were huge. The velvet curtains were tied up, allowing the light from the sun inside. A crystal chandelier hung above the ceiling. There was a dining hall, a theater, various lounge rooms, a game room and so much more.

”And up these stairs are the rooms you all are staying in. There is an elevator to the right if that is your preference. Drop off your bags, relax, and enjoy the fantastic service of the staff and oh!—“ Topolino gasps. “Well now, what do we have here? Do I see a frown on that face? That just won’t do!”

The talking mouse marches his way towards the Prefect and Grim. Grim yelps at the speed of the mouse walking towards them. Great.

Getting a closer look at his face, Yuu can see that this mouse “costume” looked a little too realistic. Not like in a “oh, this mouse costume looks like a real mouse!” way.

No…

This was not just some guy wearing a costume at all. This was in fact, a walking, talking, breathing anthropomorphic cartoon mouse.

Topolino pats Yuu softly on his back. He was standing a bit too close for Yuu’s liking. “Hey there, pal! Why the long face? Oh, I know just what to do to turn that frown upside down! All you need is a little bit of magic.”

The mouse takes out a wand from thin air. He waves it around and creates a light show for everyone in the hotel to see. Students from across all dorms clap their hands at the sight.

”W-wow! That was sooo cool! Um, don’t worry about me, your majesty. I’m just, uh, really, really tired from all the traveling!” Yuu reassured the mouse, taking a step back.

”Alright, if you say so! Just remember, if you're ever feeling down in the dumps, it’s always important to tell a friend! Ha-ha.”

Yuu feels an arm snake around his shoulders. The familiar smell of sea salt and expensive cologne fills Yuu’s nose. Lifting his head, Yuu watches Floyd smirk at the talking mouse. Jade and Azul stand beside them as well.

“Oh, no need to worry your majesty. The three of us will take care of him. Isn’t that right, Azul? Floyd?” Jade says, in a very obvious fake polite manner. It was something Yuu had figured out Jade would do whenever he spoke to someone he openly disliked.

Azul adjusts his glasses. “Indeed. Our Prefect here is in good hands. He’s under our care.”

Topolino smiles, placing his hands on his hips. “Gosh! It looks like you’ve got yourself some really good friends here, Yuu! Well then, I’ll see you all around! Have fun!”

The mouse turns, waving and giving personal greetings to the remaining students that stood in the hotel lobby. Most of them had already gotten the key to their rooms.

Azul flicks his hands as he begins to roll his suitcase to the front desk, motioning the twins, Yuu, and Grim to follow suit. Grim looks up at the Prefect and glares.

”Hey, that guy was kinda weird don’t ya think? I don’t think I like him…” the cat monster says in a low voice.

Yuu has to agree with Grim here. The vibes were totally off…How the hell did that guy know his name? Their names are nowhere written on their passes.

”Your room is number 46 on floor 3. Here is the key. Enjoy your stay!” Jeez, just many rooms were in this place? Well, at least they didn’t have to worry about not having enough rooms. Everyone was required to share a room in a pair of 2 or more people as instructed by the Headmage and Professor Crewel during the assembly.

The elevator was crowded. About 15 students were inside, making it hard to breathe. Yuu was squashed between the people in front and behind him. He felt a hand brush against his own and he jumped…Oh, it was just Jade.

The eel mer smiles down at Yuu. The Prefect sighs, leaning up against the taller boy. He really needed more rest. Yuu was already feeling drained just by being here.

The elevator dings, the doors open and the group of students walk down the hallway to find their room.

”Ah, here it is. Room 46…”

Azul turns the key and opens the door. Yuu and Grim stare in awe at the room. There was a white and blue king’s size bed with a curtain frame above it. Beside the bed were two mirrors, a side table and a large wardrobe. Under it was a brown carpet that had yellow detailing. On the far left of the room was a small seating area with blue sofas and a tv. The room looked so elegant. Definitely better than what he and Grim have back at the Ramshackle dorm that’s for sure.

The view was nice too. They could see the whole park from here.

The boys set down their luggage, inspecting their new territory. Floyd opens every cabinet space there was with Jade, who watches in amusement. Azul settles himself next to the Prefect and Grim, who sat at the edge of the bed.

”What do you think so far?” Yuu asks. Grim’s tail swishes, nervous having to be around the Octavinelle trio for this long.

Azul closes his eyes and hums. “The presentation is not half bad. I was not expecting to actually meet Topolino. I did not think he…actually existed.”

”Yeah! I thought he was just some drawing?” Floyd butts in, opening the free candies that were set on the bed side table. He absentmindedly offers one to Jade, who gleefully takes the small candy.

Oh. So Yuu wasn’t the only one who noticed.

“What the heck is even up with that guy? I never thought I would meet a talking mouse who runs a park! That’s really weird!”

Floyd snickers, shooting the plastic candy wrapping into the trash bin. “Pfttt, says the talkin’ sealie who goes to school.”

”Hey! You guys are fish and I’m a talking cat with cool flame magic! Which is way better than some mouse. By that I mean me. I bet I could run this place better than him. He’s not that impressive.”

”Sure, sure. Whatever you say sealie. Move over, I wanna sit next to Shrimpy.”

Yuu giggles, patting Grim’s head before Floyd scooped him up on his lap. The cat screeched as he was lifted in the air.

Topolino was strange. Yuu had come to realize that everytime he met someone who was animal-like, they always had human features.

Topolino is just straight up a walking 3D cartoon mouse with a goofy voice.

Like always, an issue will arise at some point and it will be up to NRC to fix it…or run from it. Really depends on how deep shit they get in. They might have to blow this place up like the last amusement park they went to.

Hell, he wouldn't even be surprised if this place was some kind of…some kind of cult!

Man…Yuu is praying that this trip will be normal. Please. For the love of all that is good. Please be a normal field trip.

While Yuu was contemplating life, the boys looked over the map. Azul and Jade were mostly in charge of the route that they would take for today. Floyd and Grim looked up the many eating spots and rides the park had to offer in the brochure that came with the hotel room.

”Here’s how it will go. We all have a day to spend with each other. For example, today Jade and Yuu will be in a pair while Floyd and I will be in one together. And vice versa tomorrow. On the last day, it will be Yuu and I, Jade and Floyd.” Azul proposed. “Will that be alright, Yuu?”

Yuu snaps out of his thoughts. He shrugs his shoulders, nodding. “Huh? Um, yeah sounds good to me.” The Prefect looks down at Grim. “If you want Grim, if you see Ace, Deuce or any of the other guys walking around you can go hang out with them. I don’t want to feel like you have to stick with me the whole time.”

Grim grins, pumping his arms into the air. “Myahaha! Alright! Let’s go already! I wanna see what kinda food they have here! I wanna go on a roller coaster too!”

Azul blinks. “Roller…coaster?”

“An amusement ride that carries passengers through sharp turns and twists. Floyd and I went on before…it was, let’s just say, I would rather not go on one again after that experience…” Jade explains apprehensively. His voice seems to quiver from the memory.

”Aww c’mon. Don’t listen to Jade. It wasn’t that bad. We should totally go on one together.” Floyd grins.

”We’ll see when the time comes…Well then, let’s not waste any more time.”

The hotel lobby was crowded once again. Several students walked about, exploring the many rooms in the building. Yuu could see people with plates of food from the dining hall. He noticed Crewel and Crowley standing nearby.

The alchemy professor makes eye contact with Yuu. He nods, giving him a knowing look. ‘Be careful, pup.’

Making their way to the main street of the park, Jade slithers his fingers in between Yuu's. He leans over to whisper into his ear.

”Are you thrilled to be paired up with me? I have no doubt that we will have the most fun together.”

Yuu could feel his ear warm up. He gulps, looking up at the soft spoken boy. This is going to be one hell of a day…

“Ace! Are you ready?”

”Yeah! Be right there!”

Cater giggles as he snaps some last minute selfies for Magicam. Ace and Deuce decided to share a room together. However, Riddle wouldn’t allow them to stay in the room by themselves because he “didn’t trust them enough.” So, Cater stepped up to babysit them for the next three days.

Ace and Deuce had already planned out their day. They wanted to ride every single roller coaster. Eat everything from the food stalls and collect as many blind bag pins as they can from the gift shop. And as a bonus, they get free entertainment as they sneak a peak at their dear friend flop about like a fish out of water with his crushes.

“This about to be so lit, I can feel it in my bones!” Ace hyped as he grinned.

Deuce grinned as well, cracking his knuckles. “I bet I can ride every single roller coaster without getting sick!”

”Oh yeah? Bet!”

Cater smiles, a bit of sweat forming. “Woah there, hold on boys! As your senior I’m in charge of looking after you, so no getting sick, ‘kay? I don’t want to lose my head!”
