Chapter 1: Intoxication

Chapter Text

Audio Description of Feb 27 2022’s Sunday Sermon, ‘Intoxication’

“Ahem…

This week, there was a lot of things I could do a sermon about. I mean, gee whiz, people! Even for a capital, Moralton is pretty hectic. A lot of things have happened in town just this week. But, there’s one thing I’ve noticed has been becoming worryingly prevalent in our town recently:

Intoxication.

And stay with me here, folks, I know what you’re thinking: ‘Revs, what’s so wrong with getting sauced every once and a while? It can’t possibly do any harm!’

Well I’ll tell you what’s wrong with it: God doesn’t want you to!

Proverbs 20:1. I’ll save you lethargic mass of a congregation some page turning and just tell you what this verse says. Ahem:

“Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.”

Right there, black and white. I literally cannot make this up, people.

God Himself rejects the act of drinking! I mean, of course it’s okay to have a couple drinks every once and a while, but when it becomes a vice? When it starts affecting what you do? That, my friends, is when God draws the line.

And this isn’t just about alcohol, no no no, far from it. Drugs of any kind are abhorable! In fact, drugs are the worst thing that you can do, much worse than the occasional drink. I mean, honestly, when anything skews your mind that much, no wonder God doesn’t want us to use it! When you’re under the influence, you can do all sorts of crazy things. You’re more likely to spend money on frivolous things! Or you’d be more inclined to break the law. You’re even more likely to break a commandment or — God Forbid — become a Devil worshiper.

It’s scary stuff, believe you me! That’s why it’s better just not to mess with it. Seriously. Pills, rocks, plants - God does not discriminate, and it’s just better to stay far away. And why?

Well, the simple answer to that is that drugs are a gateway… to HELL!

Amen.”
