When izuku didn't get his quirk, his life quickly began to fall apart.

Luckily for him, the Bakugo's are more than will to help piece him back together.

Chapter 1: prologue

Chapter Text

It was supposed to be the doctor's visit, gods it was all her little izuku had been talking about since his birthday.

“Mom! I want you and dad to help me pick my hero name!” Her little izuku would ask, jumping up and down with joy as he was picked up by her husband, his smile and encouraging laugh trailing away from the kitchen and into the living room.

“Izuku, if you could pick, what would you want your quirk to be?” She could hear her Hisashi ask, and peaking around the corner to his long mop of curly black hair tied back, a small journal in his hands as Izuku spoke with wide eyes and excitement. “I wanna mix of your's and mom's! Then I could definitely keep up with Kacchan, we'll be the best heroes ever!”

“Ah, so fire manipulation. Something similar to Endeavor?” Hisashi asked, and watched as their son nodded his head and held his hands outward, making fire noises as he presumably pretended to shoot fire out of his hands.

But no, in just a single breath, her smiling ball of sunshine was cut down, his dreams of being a hero shattering on the sterile tile floor. The walk home was filled with silence as she kept an eye on her son, the feeling of disappointment and guilt chipping away at her as she saw the sunken expression he wore.

“I could also get a job to help, Hisashi” Inko suggested one night as the couple laid In their bed, the green haired woman looking over and watching as her husband tied his mess of hair into a low ponytail. “Money isn't an issue dear. Plus if we are both out working, who's gonna watch izuku? I can push past my own personal feeling to work with the man”

“Hisashi, you shouldn't have to. we can always have him be babysat with Mitsuki and Masrau” she offered, only to be met with a scoff as he shook his head. “That woman would be an even worse influence for Izuku than Katsuki is.” “Hisashi! You are his God uncle, the least you can do is play nice with our family”

“She's not family! The only reason I allow her around Izuku is because you knew her in high school”

Hisashi stared at her, his deep blue eyes reflecting into Inko’s as the two were locked within a tense staring contest.

“Hisashi, Mitsuki isn't your brother. Just because she's a bit hard on Katsuki doesn't mean she'll do the same to Izuku. She's got a sweet spot for him that rival's yours.” As Inko spoke, she laid a soft hand on Hisashi, feeling as his bare chest rose and fell slowly, her husband clearly deep in thought as he finally spoke again, his harsh tone smoothed and soft as he visibly relaxed.

“I'm sorry.”

“I know, we're safe from him.” She responded as they embraced, fingers entangling in soft locks as she spoke once more.

“We will be doing something about your hair, I'll schedule an appointment in the morning.”

It only got worse once they got home, the sun bathed their small apartment in a golden aura, as if expecting its inhabitants to return victorious from their adventures. “Go to your room sweetie, your dad and i need a minute” she had stated, her voice strained as she took a deep breath and walked her son to his room, looking in at the hero posters hung up smiling, almost as if mocking her baby boy.

shutting the door behind him she nearly broke down, wiping the tears that pricked at the edges of her vision. With shaky legs she made her way to the living room as she sat at the table, the wait of each step sending pain in her feet as she couldn't stop her mind from replaying the words from the doctor.

“He will never have a quirk”

“Honey? How did it go?” her husband called out, exiting their room and walking down the hallway. His hands ran through his now shorter hair as the smile he wore quickly vanished, approaching Inko and kneeling beside his wife as he saw tears silently staining her cheeks. She looked to Hisashi and gestured to the purse that held the medical record for their son.

Quickly he moved his hands and grabbed the purse, standing up as he hastily unfolded the papers and softly read the words on the page. “...quirkless?” The words fell from his lips as his muttering halted, his voice quiet as Inko saw her husband clutch the paper tightly, smoke billowing out his nostrils as the room was silent, the two adults looking to each other and back to the paper as he turned, dropping the paper to the table and  walked back into their bedroom.

“Moooom, let's go already!” Izuku whined as he tugged at his mother's shirt. Said Midoriya woman was currently held tightly by her husband as he peppered Inko’s face and neck with kisses.

“H-hisashi, stop that, we're both gonna be late” she giggled, pulling on the ponytail her husband wore as he finally pulled away from her, releasing his loving hold.

“I guess I'll owe you more when I return then” he smiled, turning his attention to his son as the tall man crouched down and ran his hands through Izuku's curly hair. “You be on your best behavior little man, and when you come back from the doctor we'll have whatever you want to celebrate”

“even katsudon?” He asked, his voice squeaking as his eyes sparkled in excitement.

Hisashi only nodded, standing back up as he looked at Inko. “Is something wrong?” He shook his head. “No, just have some business stuff to take care of, I'll tell you more tonight”

Finding the strength to stand to her feet, she pushed the chair back as she made her way to Hisashi, entering the room to see a suitcase in the middle of their bed as clothes were strewn about, Hisashi's nice suit jacket half burnt and tie loosened as he stared up at her, his tall slender frame illuminated by the bedside lamp as his fist clenched a pair of slacks in one hand and pressing down some clothes into the case with his other.

“H…h-hisashi?” She asked, feeling as if her stomach had dropped watching the scene in front of her. “Inko, dear. I know this is a bad time, but I've been called for some very important work overseas, I must get ready to go”

Liar.

Her brain only screamed one word at her as she watched him continue to pack, anger boiling as she reached her hand out and used her quirk to rip away the clothes in his hand, spilling them onto the floor. “You're just gonna leave us? Right after you found out your son is quirkless!” She nearly shouted, taking a step forward as Hisashi's face narrowed, emotions swirling the both of them as he spoke.

“I can't help take care of Izuku and you If I don't take this offer” he stated, a cold and commanding tone that she had rarely heard from her husband before. Inko wasn't stupid, she saw what was happening and like hell she was going to let her izuku lose both his dream and his father in one day. Instead, she simply walked out of the bedroom, waiting as she stewed in her anger and watched as Hisashi left the house, suitcase in tow.

The phone only rang twice, and when the person on the other side picked up, Inko gave no time for pleasantries. “Mitsuki, Hisashi just walked out on me and Izuku.”

“What? The fuck do you mean he just walked out?” Her friend had asked, clearly dropping whatever she was doing on the other end to give the conversation her full attention. “Izuku's doctor's appointment didn't go well, and I need to have a few words with my husband. Would you be so kind as to take Izuku for the night?” She asked, her tone kind, not wanting to let the motherly anger and rage inside of her spill out onto the only friends her family had.

“O-of course! I'll bring Katsuki over and the boys can spend some time together, we'll be on our way” she quickly reassured her, hanging up as Inko sat the phone down and went to her son's room. “Izuku dear, can I come in?” She asked, giving a moment for her son before she opened the door, looking in to find izuku laying on his bed, tears streaming down his chubby face as he clutched the All Might figure his father had bought him, reminding her just how quickly she needed to move to find her husband.

“Izuku sweetie, auntie Mitsuki and Katsuki are gonna come by to watch you for a little bit, okay?” She said, watching her son lean up to look at her with curiosity. “W-whys kacchan coming over?” He asked, unaware of the yelling outside his door. “Me and your father need to have a few talks about the doctor's visit, we'll be back later tonight honey, then I'll even make you katsudon for dinner, okay?” She offered, giving her son a kind smile as she began to close the door.

“Is…is it because I don't have a quirk?” He quietly asked, looking to his mother with more tears that threatened to fall. “Oh sweetie” she sighed, entering the room and hugging her son tightly “you will always be loved, quirk or not. Your father just chose a bad time to make a work decision, and I'm gonna talk to him” she explained, letting go and standing on her feet as she gave Izuku a kiss on the forehead. “I promise I'll be back, now be on your best behavior for auntie” she gave him one last smile, closing the door and turning to the entrance of the apartment.

When I find you, Hisashi Midoriya, there will be hell to pay.

——————————————–——–

Mitsuki Bakugou quickly walked up the stairwell that led to the midoriya apartment, her shoes echoing almost as loud as the heart pounding in her ears.

“Brat come get your shoes, we're visiting the midoriyas!” she had shouted up the stairs, frustration growing as she struggled to put her own shoes on. “I've never heard inko so upset and calm at the same time, if Hisashi doesn't get his head out of his ass i swear to gods im gonna make him regret every decision hes made for that fucking job” she spoke to Masrau, who was sitting quietly on the couch as he listened, a thoughtful expression on his face. Picking up the purse from the corner table Mitsuki watched as her son trudged down the stairs, mildly upset as he spoke. “What's going on with auntie and uncle?” he asked grumpily, and she almost snapped at her four year old.

Almost. Taking a deep breath Mitsuki had to keep In check the growing flame of outrage that was meant for her close friend's husband, and not her adorable firecracker of a son.

“Kasuki.” her voice was tense, catching his full attention as she spoke. “Your uncle did something stupid and Izuku is all alone right now, we need to go and keep an eye on him until Inko returns, do you understand?” She asked, kneeling as her son approached, handing him his favorite shoes as he nodded.

“Good, now why don't you get some of the action figures you guys like to play with together and I'll give him a call to tell him we're coming” she gave a smile. watching her son as he gave another nod and ran up the stairs, shoes in hand as well as a determined look. Standing back up she pulled her phone out of her purse and gave their house number a ring, waiting patiently for Izuku to answer.

Twelve missed calls in the past ten minutes worried Mitsuki, her mind continuing to race as they reached the fifth floor, and she let out a long string of curses directed at the out of service elevator. Reaching the door she fumbled in the bags as she looked to her left to see that Katsuki wasn't too far behind, looking equally worn from the near sprint they ran. “Izuku!” She yelled out, swinging the door opened into the dark apartment, her eyes frantically searching as she entered and started looking around.

“Can you see that? He's already saved a hundred people!” The sound of a voice grabbed her attention, and Mitsuki quickly walked to the source of the noise, opening the door to see a dark room lit by the screen of a computer.

“It's fine now. Why? Because I am here.”

“I, I am he-here…” Came the sniffling impersonation of Izuku, turning to face his aunt with tears in his eyes and holding his Allmight figure, watching her as Mitsuki ran forward and dropped to her knees, her hands reaching to wipe the tears away from his face as he spoke.

“he al, al-always has a smile on his f-face, even when th-things seem impossib-” the boy was cut off when Mitsuki pulled him into a hug, her arms wrapped around him tightly as his grip on his action figure loosened and fell to the floor, finally letting the swirling storm of emotions free as he began to sob loudly, clutching onto his aunt.

“Do….do you th-think, I can be a h-hero too?”

——————————————–——–

‘It smells like auntie burned something, or uncle used his quirk’ These thoughts among others passed through Katsuki's mind as he entered the dark and empty Midoriya apartment. Almost on instinct he went to Izuku's room, his mother may be panicking but he knew Izuku wouldn't be stupid enough to run or get himself into trouble, especially if auntie Inko and uncle Hisashi were out.

Opening the door he saw that his friend's normally tidy room was a mess, toys strewn about with his clothes bunched into what was seemingly his backpack for school. As katsuki entered he let his own bag fall to the floor, snooping around to see if he could find Izuku's favorite all might action figure, which in of itself was a challenge, when he found a bunch of papers and crayons hastily held together by some tape. Pulling it into the light from his window the words “hero vol 2” were scribbled together with green crayon, though he never got the chance to open it, as the familiar Midoriya cries echoed through the apartment, causing him to drop the papers and bolt towards the source of the noise.

Rushing down the hall and looking into the doorway he stood, watching the exchange as he felt something bubble in his chest, the sight of his mother comforting Izuku as he wrapped his small hands around her neck sparked something in the blond boy. ‘Stupid doctor. Even if Izuku is quirkless, I'll just use my awesome quirk and train him as my sidekick, we'll be unstoppable!’

He stomped towards the duo, gaining their attention as he went to pick up Izuku's figure, looking at the green-haired boy who wiggled out of Mitsuki’s embrace and wiped the tears, surprised at Katsuki shoving the figure into his hand as he spoke.

“I don't care about what that dum dum doctor said, you're gonna be a hero, and together we'll be the best hero team ever!” Katsuki spoke loudly, his fierce attitude and narrowed eyes stared at them as his hand gripped Izukus, a moment of silence flooding the room that was shattered by the shaky laughter that came from Mitsuki, who moved to pull them both into another hug.

“Damn right, you two are gonna set the world ablaze one day”

——————————————–——–

The rain continued to pour down as Inko found herself on a train that was relatively empty, save for the occasional businessman or teenager. Checking the time on her phone once more she let out a small sigh of relief at the string of texts that mitsuki had sent her, including the series of images that showed her baby boy and katsuki getting into their usual mischief, with the final image of them passed out in their twin all might onesies, the tv playing some old hero documentary of All Might in his Bronze Age.

Mitsuki

I finally got the little heroes put to bed, how goes finding Hisashi?

Inko

I'm currently on a train to Yokohama at the moment, but he still refuses to answer any calls or texts I send him.

Inko

Thank you again for watching izuku. I should be back by morning if it isn't too much trouble?

Mitsuki

Dont worry about it, I already let Masaru know and he’s okay with it too, all he asks is to send us the address when you find him >:]

Inko smiled at the texts as she turned the screen off and pocketed her phone, relieved that she and Izuku had such trusted friends. The train continued to run its course, eventually reaching its end destination and coming to a halt, the doors chiming as they opened and Inko finally stepping out onto the wet concrete floor, making her way down the staircase and out onto the sidewalk as the bright lights of the city caused her to squint briefly. Rubbing her eyes she adjusted to the sights and sounds of Yokohama and started walking down the street as she kept her eyes on the buildings and signs.

Curse that doctor, and curse Hisashi for thinking he can just walk out on them. All she need to do is find the hotel he checked into and then -

“Excuse me, sir?” Inko called out, approaching a tall and stocky man in a business suit that sat on a bench out of the rain and reading, watching as he folded his newspaper and looked up to Inko, his steely eyes and sharp smile staring back at her as he spoke.

“Oh my, please come take a seat out of that horrible weather!” He stated, moving over and giving inko plenty of space as the green-haired woman sat down, trying to offer a smile as he spoke once more. “You seem like you lost something, or someone. What can I help you with?” He asked, crossing his legs and leaning into the bench as he watched her for a response.

“I, could you tell me where I could find yavin hotel? I'm looking for my husband but my phone just can't give me the directions to the place” she said, her frustration seeping into the conversation as she let out a sigh. “Oh? If you're here on vacation there's plenty of tourist info booths that I could happily point you in the direction of” he offered, watching as she shook her head “I'm not here for vacation I'm just, ugh. Apologies, i dont mean to burden a stranger with my personal troubles ” she said, looking to get up before the man spoke.

“please, it's hardly trouble helping a woman find her husband. Tell me more about him and I can help you find him” the man offered again, and something about the man reminded her of Izuku, who always offered to help no matter how hard the task was.

Her Izuku, who was currently asleep at a friends house because Inko didn't have enough strength to keep their family from falling apart-

No, she wouldn't dare allow herself to think that way. She was going to find Hisaishi, and drag him back by his neck and make damn sure her son had a good life, quirkless or not,

“W-well, if you insist, he's tall and slim, black hair and a fire breathing quirk, his name is Hisashi Midoriya, he works-”  “Hisashi?” The man questioned, his eyes widening in surprise, something that Inko suspected didn't happen too much for the man.

“Do you know him?” She questioned. “Indeed I do, I happen to be one of his higher ups who approved his promotion, though given that it required him to move out of the country we gave him three months to get himself and his family ready for the move, did he not tell you?”

His family.

Suddenly the weight of today finally pushed the kind woman to her limit, the simmering of anger that she had desperately contained was finally boiling over, causing Inko to stand up and slam her foot onto the wet sidewalk, a growl of frustration escaping her lips as she spoke “that, that bastard!” She spat her eyes narrowing at the ground before turning to face her husband's boss, her green eyes staring into the man. “It's because of Izuku, he's trying to run away because his own son is quirkless, how dare he!” She practically screamed, her face hot with rage as she watched the man, who now wore a curious expression.

“Quirkless huh? I had a family member who was quirkless, I can now see why Hisashi tried to call me.” Inkos rage temporarily left as her features softened “he called you?” “Multiple times in fact, but now knowing his intentions, I doubt his promotion will last” he said, his eyes narrowing as he stood to his feet, pulling out a small flip phone and smiled once more.

“Get yourself home, Mrs Midoriya, and I assure you that your husband will meet you there.” Inko felt a piece of herself simmer, regaining her composure as she made a small bow “O-oh, th-thank you… Mister?” she looked back up, but to the woman's surprise, the man had seemingly disappeared, leaving her alone in the rain.

“Damnit!” He hissed, leaning forward from his seat on the bottom steps as he threw the small lighter. Watching as the cheap plastic bounced into the sidewalk and shattered, he took the cigarette out of his mouth and settled it into the front pocket of his polo as he let out a shaky breath.

He never liked Hisashi. He was ashamed to admit it but the minute Katsuki got his quirk he saw something different in the man, something almost fanatic. Mitsuki called him paranoid and Inko would always say he was just very analytical, but he knew there was something the man was hiding, it was rare for the man to take his wife's last name in marriage after all.

Even now, sitting on the steps of the apartment building his wife's friend occupied, he felt that there was always something more to Hisashi Midoriya. And if the coward tried to return home tonight, he was gonna get his answers.

“Look at ‘em Mas, I swear it's like the universe made them to be a pair” his wife laughed quietly as they watched the scene unfold.

Izuku stood in his All Might onesie in their backyard, his little foot pressed against Katsuki's back who was also in a matching onesie. He could tell his son was upset about ‘losing’ the game they were playing, but even with his glasses off he saw the small smile when Izuku was distracted.

“I'm going to the apartment” he said after the kids had fallen asleep, sneaking a few of his wife's cigarettes as he approached the door of their bedroom.

“You know I'm not gonna stop you Mas, just promise not to get burned by the man if you see him.” Mitsuki said, sitting in the bed with her legs crossed as the blonde woman was currently staring at her phone, waiting.

Masaru nodded, and as he opened the bedroom door to leave, his wife's voice called out to him once more.

“And despite our personal feelings, try to hear him out first, okay?”

“Okay…I'll hear him out”

The walk through the apartment was tense as Masaru felt his hands clenched tightly, the sounds of his shoes softly echoing the stairway of the rustic apartment. Eventually reaching the floor to the midoriya apartment, the brown haired man pushed the door open and entered into its hallway, standing silently in the darkness to listen as he slowly moved.

“Who the hell are you?” was a young, clam voice that called out in front of him as Masaru opened the door to the midoriya household.

“I'm, a family friend of the people living here…. Who are you?” He asked, watching as the teen held a small container under his arm, watching him in the darkness.

“I'm with the cleaning crew, the manager told me to take a look and see if this place needed to be cleared out.”

“Cleared out?” He managed to ask, his unease beginning to show as he took a step closer, watching the teens tense stance before eventually, he relaxed, walking past Masaru and out into the hallway.

“The tenants are being evicted apparently, guess they pissed off the owner. I suggest you get their stuff out of here by this weekend, else it's gonna be thrown or sold”

Masaru was silent, waiting as the footsteps got progressively quieter, before closing the door behind him and turning on the lights.

“Nothing looks broken” he spoke mostly to himself, though a small part of his mind calmly told him he wasn't alone. Walking through the apartment he found nothing broken or stolen, though any pictures of Hisashi or Inko were coincidentally missing, but he just chalked it up to eMitsuki having put them away at some point during her pick-up.

Finding nothing else wrong, Masaru let out a heavy sigh as he released the building pressure in his fists, letting them uncurl and hang loosely at his sides as he looked around the apartment one last time before turning to leave and wait outside.

The door pushed open, and as the brown haired man exited the apartment complex he was greeted to the sight of a rather tall gentleman in a trench coat. standing at the sidewalk with broad shoulders, blue eyes and a deep red hair that was mostly hidden under a hat and was only illuminated by the street light he was standing under as Masaru watched him, taking a breath as he watched the man approach.

“You, do you happen to know one of the tenants in this building?” The man asked, his voice gruff as he towered over Masaru. “Who are you looking for?”

“A family called the midoriyas” the man spoke, and Masaru felt that familiar unease settled back in his chest as his brown eyes locked the man's blue eyes.”they happen to be going through something personal the moment, I wouldn't recommend bothering them” he had offered, watching the man's eyes narrow as he stepped closer.

“Don't you try to tell me what to do with my personal matters, now if Hisashi is here, You. Will. Tell. Me.” He gritted out, pressing his finger against Masarus chest.

and at that statement Masaru narrowed his eyes and clenched his fists.

“Unless you are family, I suggest you go back to wherever you came from, sir.” Masaru gritted out, his brown eyes locked in an intense staring contest against the man's blue eyes, silence filling the open air before watching as he let out a huff, and turned to leave.

Gently, he pulled his glasses off his face as he grabbed the hem of his shirt to wipe them, feeling the sweat building up in his hands.

…sweat.

Yeah, that'll do.

Pulling the cigarette back out of his pocket and readjusting his glasses. He bit down on the filter and held it with his clenched teeth, raising his right hand as he snapped his fingers to the tip of the paper.

Snap- pop!

The empty street was quickly filled with the sound of a small explosion. Softly reflecting in the lens of his glasses was the orange glow of his wife's cigarette.

“Thank gods she only gets the herbals now” he thought to himself, the familiar feeling of smoke filling his lungs as he took a long drag did little to calm him, but the action itself was more than enough to settle his nerves.

——————————————–——–

“Ka….kacchan?” Izuku's small voice called out, the green-haired child shifting under the covers of the blanket that was draped around him. Slowly, his green eyes opened, looking around as he found himself in the living room of the Bakugo apartment. The dark blues of the early morning barely shining through the curtain pulled windows, but what lit the room up was the glow of the tv as the menu screen for “All Might: The Story Retold 3” looped, the faint sounds of action noises, and the signature “I Am Here” . Sitting up and stretching, Izuku threw off the blanket as he squinted and scanned the room for his best friend, only to not see him anywhere.

“Darn it!”

Ah, guess I found him.

Quietly he got down from the couch, the soft soles of his onesie making no noise as he walked across the carpeted floor and into the connecting kitchen space.

As Izuku entered his eyes were already adjusting to the dark room. Looking around he saw the soft yellow stove top light illuminate the kitchen, as well as the fridge that was wide open and currently being rummaged through.

Crack.

“Not again” came the annoyed voice of Katsuki, who was currently trying to juggle five eggs, two of which had already fallen and cracked on the floor.

“Kacchan, what are you doing up so early, its–” izuku paused, looking around the kitchen as he spotted the clock on the wall above the dining table, the hands reading six ten. “It's six in the morning, you'll wake up auntie and uncle” “dad hasn't came back home yet, and I want breakfast”

Home.

It seemed to hit the boy all at once, and before Izuku realized it, tears were already spilling down his round cheeks. “Izuku–” Katsuki called out, carefully maneuvering out of the fridge as he gently laid the rest of the eggs down and approached. “Izuku, it's okay. Don't cry” he pleaded, his red eyes staring into Izuku's, which seemed to make him only cry more.

“don't cry or you're gonna wake up mom” he warned, pulling Izuku into a hug, the two of them embraced in the darkness as Izuku's crying decreased to hiccups and sniffles.

“K-kacchan, do you think the d-doctor is wrong?” He asked between sniffles, feeling Katsuki's small hand clench the cloth of his onesie as he pulled away to face him. “It doesn't matter, if you don't have a quirk then that just makes you my sidekick!” He spoke, his voice full of determination and conviction.

“Like…. Like Sir Nighteye?” Izuku's quiet voice asked, watching as his best friend nodded his head vigorously as his sharp smile spread across his cheeks. “Exactly, even All Might needed a super nerd as his second in command. I promise izuku, I won't leave you behind”

“O-okay…. You want me to help with breakfast?”

——————————————–——–

As the alarm beeped annoyingly at her, Mitsuki swung her arm out from the covers to turn it off, groaning in annoyance each time she swiped her hand and missed. Eventually she threw the covers off and finally turned off the alarm, squinting as the morning light had bathed her room. Blinking a few time and rubbing the sleep out of her eyes Mitsuki looked to her left instinctively, slightly surprised that Masaru hadn't returned home yet. Pulling the rest of the covers off and swinging her legs over the bed and onto the floor as she read the alarm clock, noticing it was already past nine.

Throwing on some jeans and a sweater, Mitsuki made her way down the stairs and into the kitchen, where she was greeted to the sight of broken eggshells on the floor, the pancake mixer absolutely covered in batter , the pan shoved into the sink with about a dozen other dirty bowls and plates. And at the center of this cooking storm was her little Katsuki and Izuku, sitting at the table with smiles on their faces as they were eating half burnt pancakes, their onesies covered in syrup in batter as Izuku was the first to notice her.

“Good morning auntie! We made breakfast!” He was ecstatic, standing up in his chair as he pointed to the stacked plate full of their breakfast shenanigans.

“We need more eggs” was all Katsuki seemed to add to the conversation.

“...firecracker, do you not see the mess you made!” She shouted, her red eyes glaring as her son simply shrugged his shoulders and took another bite. “I was hungry, so I made breakfast with Izuku.”

“I swear to the gods Katsuki Bakugo, if you don't clean this up–” she winded up, ready to punish him when the sound of the door gently opening got her attention. Turning around she saw her husband, who looked absolutely tired as he slowly entered the house, making his way to the source of his wife's voice and embraced her.

“Mas, hun. What's wrong?” She asked, her voice lowering as he held her.

“Mitsuki… Inko hasn't texted you any has she?” He asked, and when Mitsuki shook her head the man took a deep breath. “Katsuki, stay here with Izuku for a minute while i talk to your mom”

“Whatever” was the response as he shoved another piece of the charred food into his tiny mouth, seemingly content.

The two stepped into the living room, and Mitsuki studied her husband's expression, the furrowed brow as his eyes dilated, shifting slightly from side to side as he seemed to be thinking about something.

“Maz, honey. You're worrying me.” She spoke softly, resting a hand on his shoulder as the man finally spoke to her.

“Something, Something wasn't right. first was when i went over to the apartment, there was a teenager in there, he was wearing gloves and a mask and was touching their stuff” he explained, recounting the odd encounter as his voice gave away the tired and confused state he had been in.

“What the hell, so Mr Hiro just decided to kick them out?” Mitsuki questioned, confusion evident in her voice as Masaru continued.

“There was…. someone there waiting when I came back down too” he continued, speaking of the large man looking for Hisashi as his brown eyes met her reds, the room settling into silence as Mitsuki listened to her husband's retelling of the night's events. Once he finished speaking a small, horrifying thought came across her mind.

Hisashi's latest job was working with a top pro hero for his analysis, if anyone found out where he lived-

“You don't… you don't think that someone was after them, do you?”

“I…  I don't know Mitsuki, but if Inko still hasn't come home, we need to tell the police. I have a horrible feeling something happened”

The blonde woman pulled back, her slender hands resting on his hips as she read the expression on his face. He was tired, and whatever fight he had in him at the beginning of the night had been replaced by worry.

The worst part was when she turned to look at the kids, who had by now stopped paying attention to the adults, she knew he was right.

Inko Midoriya never just disappears.

Masaru sat in the cool air conditioned room of the semi-busy station, his hands pressing the clipboard against the table as he felt his back aching from the metal fold-out chair.

“And, you're sure you want to take temporary custody of the boy until a cps worker meets with you?” Came the voice from the officer, his tone neutral cutting through the sounds of keyboards, ringing phones and idle conversations as he watched Masaru finish filling out the forms.

“I'm certain, the midoriya's are practically family” he responded back, setting the pen down to wipe his hands on his pants and rid himself of the excess sweat. Adjusting his glasses his eyes met with the officer who gave an inquisitive stare, and Masaru internally groaned as he felt the exhaustion weighing on his shoulders.

“Just get through this, and an afternoon of napping on the couch with Mitsuki will be all yours” he reminded himself.

“Do you need a napkin sir?” He asked, and the brown haired man adjusted his glasses. “No, it's just a byproduct of my quirk”

Looking back at the papers, his eyes skimmed over the written missing persons report, the added report of some rather unusual guests who seemed to also be looking for Hisashi, and finally the form that granted him and Mitsuki temporary custody of Izuku.

His eyes focused on the name, and the blank space that would have had his quirks name.

“Gods, He's such a smart kid. Maybe we should get him re-tested just in case the doctor was wrong” he thought to himself, feeling a smile forming on his tired face.

“This will also allow us to go to the apartment and move their belongings, yes?” he asked, watching the officer's mouth curl into a soft reassuring smile. “Of course sir, it's also required that we have an officer on scene to make sure there's no dispute. shall I send someone to follow you along or would you rather meet them at the address?”

Getting up from the chair, he shook his head as he went to shake the officer's hand. “Meeting them at the address is fine, I need to pick my family up from the park”

“Alright then, I'll lead you out and an officer will meet you at the apartment in about twelve minutes”

——————————————–——–

Mitsuki had sat on the park bench as she watched Izuku and Katsuki play with some of their school buddies, the old wooden planks that held and supported the woman creaked and groaned with each movement as she nervously shifted.

Across the street from the playground was her husband, who despite having been out all night insisted on filling out a police report.

“Wow, you're so awesome!”

Mitsuki turned her attention back to the boys, watching as Katsuki effortlessly juggled an yellow All Might themed kickball with his feet, while Izuku stood next to him, clutching two plastic buckets with his and Katsuki's names on them.

“Here, try it Izuku” Katsuki had offered, kicking the ball into the air to give the green haired boy enough time to ready himself, dropping the buckets as his legs shifted. He stared determined at the sky and watched the ball fall closer and closer.

Until it was too late, and the sound of rubber echoed as it bounced off his head and onto the ground, causing Izuku to stumble onto his rear. “Ow, kacchan!” He whined, leading to the blond boy kneeling as his small hands sifted through the green curls, a look of worry on his face as the other kids came over.

“Wow Izuku, why didn't you dodge it?” the boy with wings had asked, Tsubasa if Mitsuki had remembered correctly.

“Or use your quirk? I bet you got a super cool one like kacchan!” The other boy stated, his fingers elongating in Katsuki's direction to make a point.

“It doesn't matter you extras , you'll get it next time, right Izuku?” Her son's voice boomed, only becoming gentle as his hands finished making sure there were no injuries and helped the boy up.

“Yeah, but isn't it weird he's the only one of us to not get a quirk?” the long fingered kid had asked, and Mitsuki felt herself stiffen, sitting up straighter she watched the boys– her boys –as silence filled the playground.

.

.

“I….I don't have a quirk.” Izuku first spoke, his green eyes watching kacchan and their friends, as Tsubasa was first to speak.

“Oh yeah, my grandpa said something about that. He said it's super rare” and for a brief moment, Izuku let out a breath he didn't know he had held in.

“–and it makes him sick”

“Sick?” asked Kaurikku, his fingers retracting to their normal size as he watched Tsubasa's smug expression.

“Yeah, he says quirkless people are super weak, and they need to be-” he paused, his brows furrowed in concentration as he tried to remember the word.

“I can't remember, but he said they were useless and–” Tsubasa continued to talk, but at that point, Izuku stopped listening.

Useless. Maybe that's why dad left yesterday, if he had just a quirk him and mom would be watching a movie and eating right now. It's all his fault.

It's all my fau–

A stinging pain had pulled the boy from his thoughts, Kacchan's hand gripping his shoulder as he felt the boy's quirk activating as his face was contorted into a silent fury.

“Kacchan, that hurts” he whimpered, and as soon as the words left his mouth he felt Kacchan pull away. “Get up Izuku, we can play heros without these losers”

“But kacchan, why do you want a sick kid to drag you down?” Kaurikku asked, his tone both mocking and yet, slightly genuine as he spoke.

“Yeah Kacchan , why do you want a worthless kid to be your sidekick?” Tsubasa called out, walking towards them as Izuku felt himself choke back a sob.

“w-worthless?” He asked, turning to watch his friend as the winged portly kid approached. Picking up Izuku's yellow bucket and pressing a finger to his name he spoke.

“Look, right here. You can read his name as deku, which means he's worthless”

Worthless.

Deku.

Somewhere, in the back of his mind, Izuku remembered an old All Might video lecture he watched in class about how when you are being picked on or made fun of, you should tell a parent, teacher or trusted adult, and to never retaliate.

“Remember young heros, by following the rules, true justice will always prevail!”

Unfortunately for All Might's lesson, his body moved faster than his mind.

.

.

Katsuki Bakugo stood in a stunned silence in the playground, the sound of flesh meeting flesh as he watched his green haired friend pull away. Slamming his tiny fist into Tsubasa's face so hard it caused the round kid to fall onto his back, his wings extending outward as he hit the ground and sand blew into the air.

“I….Izuku?” He had shyly called out, the fear of his shy friend slowly building in his chest as Izuku turned back to look at him, his green eyes were dilated, his facial features contorted into a scowl as tears freely flowed down his cheeks.

“I'm… I'm not worthless, right kacchan?” His voice was quiet, and Katsuki could see the storm of worry, fear, and anger that hid behind his eyes. “Izuku” his voice trailed, slowly stepping over towards him as he saw Tsubasa slowly get up.

“Izuku, dodge!” He yelled, watching too late as the winged boy swung back, his fist making contact with Izuku's chest as he was sent stumbling, his body falling to the sand for the second time when Katsuki had rushed forward to grab him by the arms, taking a few steps backwards as he yanked his friend back and away from another punch that followed.

“Boys!” His mom ad called, and as Mitsuki’s footsteps became louder as she neared, Katsuki let go of Izuku and lunged forward, his right arm outstretched as it connected with Tsubasa's stomach and the familiar tingle raced through his body as Katsuki's hand let out an explosion that sent them both back to the ground.

“Firecracker! You are so grounded today!” Mitsuki had yelled, but he ignored her. Instead his eyes darted back to Izuku, who had rushed to his side and despite the tears in his eyes, was looking over his arms for Injuries.

and as the sounds of footsteps got louder behind him, he gave a fierce smile to the green haired boy as he held his arm up, forming a thumbs up.

——————————————–——–

Katsuki and Izuku were both quietly sat in the car, with Mitsuki standing outside and waving at her husband to go in and get the last of the midoriyas belongings as she held her face in her hands, and groaned loudly into the parking lot.

“Katsuki I could see coming, so young and he is already like his mother, but Izuku? Maybe me and Mitsuki should see about getting him to a therapist once he's properly settled” Masaru had thought to himself, entering back into the building where an officer had been waiting throughout the whole process.

“It really is a shame to see'a the midoriya family go, Inko was truly a blessing” Mister Hiro, the apartments owner and an older Italian gentleman, had said to the officer, watching as Masaru passed them.

“Mister Hiro–” Masaru spoke, his curiosity getting the better of him as he sat an empty box down. “You seem to speak so highly of your tenants, why would you evict them?”

“Well, I…” the man's face creased into thought, looking at the officer. “Is it okay if me and the man finish closing the room?”

“As long as it doesn't get violent, I'll trust you Mister Hiro.” The officer replied, standing by the door as the older gentleman followed Masaru to the elevator.

Stepping into the metal box, Masaru waited for the doors to close and start moving before he spoke again. “Sir, I know you loved babysitting Izuku, you came to every one of his birthdays, and you've helped out his family just as much as we have. Please give me an honest answer”

The older man seemed in thought, his wrinkled hands caressing his white beard as he spoke again. “I apologize Masaru, I truly do. But I was recently bought out, you see. A kind man from Tokyo had called earlier yesterday and had given me a very sizable offer for the building, enough to put me into a very nice retirement.”

“Oh, I see then” he simply responded, adjusting his glasses as he heard the elevator ding, and the doors open.

“If I may ask, Mister bakugo, how did you even find out about the eviction notice, I hadn't even had the paper printed out yet” Hiro had asked ad Masaru stepped out.

“Oh, I came by last night to check in on inko and Hisashi when I found a teenager with some cleaning supplies in the room, he told me” he explained, and watched as the older gentleman seemed confused, before a look of terror settled on his face.

“Was… he your grandson Hiro?” he asked, watching as Mister Hiro had shook his head and reached for the small buttons in the elevator.

“No, there is no teenager that works as a cleaner here Masaru.”
