Chapter Text

Nobody knows how they became friends. Tucker was a quiet nerd, and Hawke was the captain of the swim team, as well as being the most popular jock in school. Maybe it was because they've been friends since Elementary School, or because their parents were friends, but they were close nevertheless. Tucker, being an obvious outcast, never really fit in with Hawke's group of friends. He tried, but he always ended up sticking out like a sore thumb. Until sophomore year rolled around.

Tucker----

Hey, wanna hang out after school today?

Hawke----

Sorry man, I gotta go to a swim meet and go to dinner with my team

Tucker----

Oh, that's okay. Maybe another day?

Hawke----

Sounds like a plan :)

Tucker----

Tucker <3 liked your message

Despite always being left out, Tucker had grown quite fond of Hawke. He was conventionally attractive, but he was straight. That was the shittiest part about this whole situation. He could never tell him how he really felt because Hawke was one of his few friends, and he couldn't bear to lose him. However, every so often, Tucker would catch Hawke staring at him with his dumb puppy dog eyes for a little too long. It made him wonder if they ever could have a chance together.

Fast Forward 3 Months

Hawke----

Hey man, it's been a while since we've hung out. Wanna grab a bite to eat after my swim meet?

Tucker----

Sure! I agree, it has been a while haha

Hawke----

Food's on me, where do you wanna go?

Tucker----

Oh really? How about that one sushi place on the corner of Aspen and Willow? Thanks again for making time for me, I really appreciate it :)

Hawke----

Sounds good! Can you meet me at the place where I have my meets? Yk where that is, right?

Tucker----

You can count on seeing me there :)

Hawke----

You liked Tucker <3's message

When Tucker arrived at the swim meet, he couldn't help but be inevitably turned on. He wasn't quite sure what his sexuality was, but he knew for sure that he wasn't straight. He arrived early because he wanted to see Hawke dash through the water. He really enjoyed seeing a true smile on his face. Every time they had hung out starting in 6th grade, Tucker had written poems about his undying yet under-the-radar love for Hawke. He was getting close to being obsessed with him, and tried hard not to make it obvious. It just make him so relieved to know that the man he was in love with was happy to be around him, too. As he watched him laugh with his friends, he felt an outer sense of belonging. He longed so badly to be apart of something greater than his life in a small town in the middle of Oregon. He wanted to talk to him, and he hated to wait. "Hey Tuck! Wanna head out?" Hawke asked, noticing a tear that had fell down his face earlier. Tucker wiped his eye. "Y-yeah! Let's go, I wanna talk to you tonight," he noted. Hawke looked confused, but agreed. Once they got to the restaurant, they sat down and began reading over the menu. Trying to make small talk, Hawke brought up a possibly uncomfortable topic. "So, is there any girl you have your eye on right now?" he asked. Tucker's stomach dropped, terrified of what Hawke would think if he told him how he actually felt. "Um, not really," he said, picking at his food. His eyes met Hawke's. God, why did it always have to go this way? "Come on, I know that's not true. You've been in a romantic haze for the past few months, and I wanna know who you have on your mind," he asked. Hawke truly did want to know what was going on in his friend's life. Even if he hadn't been talking to him recently, he still deeply cared about him. Tucker nervously checked his phone. "Shit, my phone just died. I'm gonna need a ride home," he sighed. One long and awkward dinner later, they both hopped in Hawke's car, and he started the ignition. "Hey Hawke, I have something to tell you," Tucker sighed as he put on his seatbelt. Hawke looked at him as if waiting for him to say something. "I- never mind. It's stupid. You'd stop talking to me and I'd lose all of my friends." "Hey, it's okay, I would never leave you over something stupid. Now, tell me what's on your mind." Tucker sighed, and looked longingly into his eyes waiting for him to guess what he wanted to say. Hawke pulled the chest of Tucker's shirt towards him, and kissed him. Tucker's stomach flooded with butterflies ask the kiss slowly became more passionate and loving.
