Summary
On a cold Edmonton night, Echo, a disillusioned journalist, stands at a street corner, struggling against the chill. Their world was just rocked and completely turned upside down, giving a bit of a spark in an otherwise unsatisfying life. A sleek black car arrives, and a mysterious woman named Seraphina invites them inside. As they climb into the car, it's made clear to them that their life is on the edge of a precipice, and they're about to venture into something both beautiful and horrifying at the same time. A stark warning is given that if Echo goes down this path, there will be no return to their former life as they knew it.
The car takes Echo to The Velvet Pussycat, a mysterious establishment, where bartender Rafe explains the strange, magical rules of the venue. In this place, violence results in self-inflicted harm, severe offenses lead to teleportation, and nothing that happens can be spoken of once leaving. Rafe also reveals that Seraphina returned to the venue after an incident where something bypassed her magical protections.
