“I dare you to ask P’Jun on a date. For April’s fools” Nano grinned, sitting on Dylan’s bed with his legs crossed, looking at the older with raised eyebrows.
“I do what with Jun now?” Dylan chuckled in disbelief and shook his head.
“You don’t want to? So you admit you like him?” Nano leaned closer to the boy sitting on the chair, smirking with a satisfied nod.
“I do it” Dylan stood up and pushed Nano back on the bed. “I will go on a date with him. As a prank”
Dylan walked over to the bed, grabbing his pajamas and his phone, glaring at Nano as he headed towards the bathroom.
“You’d better be out when I come back. You will pay for this Nano” he tried to look and sound scary, but their youngest just rolled his eyes and sent a finger heart to his groupmate, who was laying down on the bed in a starfish pose.
“Yeah, yeah. Get a lots of rest Phi, you have a big day coming tomorrow” Nano giggled before Dylan disappeared in the bathroom, his middle finger showed for Nano.
---
Dylan wasn’t nervous because of the date, no. He was nervous because they were on a tour and because it was only his second time in Japan, his first time in Osaka.
Why would he be nervous just because he was outside Jun’s hotel room? It’s just a prank, after all.
He knocked weakly and barely heard, but after a few seconds, the door clicked, and Jun pushed his head out.
“What do you want?” He groaned after looking up and down the boy standing in the hallway.
“Good morning to you too,” Dylan sighed and put his hand on the door, pushing it further, opening it wide enough to walk inside past Jun, who tried to stop him with words, but it was no use.
“Get out” the oldest caught up to Dylan, but the silver-haired one was already sitting on the bed.
“Wanna go on a date with me?” Dylan looked up, his eyes fixed on Jun’s face, seeing every little emotion on the other’s face, in his eyes, as the question reached his brain.
His eyes widened, and even his lips parted slightly as he stared at Dylan. Even a little blush crept on his cheeks if one examined his face well enough.
“W-what?” He stuttered but tried to laugh it off. “You are completely insane!” Jun laughed in disbelief and grabbed Dylan’s arm, pulling him up.
But before he could shove Dylan out the door, the younger grabbed Jun’s waist, pulling him close with a quick and firm move. “Just a date, Junnie” he whispered, their faces closer to each other than ever before.
Jun stayed silent for a moment, not even blinking as he just kept looking into Dylan’s eyes in confusion.
His skin felt like it was burning under Dylan’s touch, feeling the warmth of the younger’s hand on his skin, where he has never felt before. Not even a chance.
“Okay” he didn’t register the words that left his mouth; he only realized when he saw the surprise on Dylan’s face, the younger softening his grip.
“Oh… okay. Then dress up, I will wait in the hallway” Dylan mumbled, turning away and pulling back his hands.
“Wait. Now? Like, right now?” Jun gasped, reaching after Dylan.
“Yes? We have a concert tomorrow and we won’t be back in Thailand for weeks. Of course, now” he scoffed and walked up to the door. “We will go see the cherry blossom; wear something pink” he winked and left the room, closing the door with a soft click.
He leaned his back against the door, panting with his hand on his chest, only noticing he was holding his breath once his lungs were screaming for oxygen.
His heart was beating fast, and his palms were sweaty. Dylan ran his fingers through his hair, his breathing slowing down with each passing moment.
“What did I just do” he whispered to himself, turning around and staring at the door.
---
“I’m hungry” Dylan whined and stopped in the middle of the pavement, crossing his arms.
“You wanted to see the cherry blossoms, not me” Jun rolled his eyes and turned around, walking back to Dylan. “You should have searched it up before coming here.”
“I just thought they were everywhere!” Dylan groaned, lifting his hands up in defense. “Nobody told me it was so far” he mumbled and turned his head to the side.
Jun sighed and walked closer, putting his hand on Dylan’s shoulder. “Let’s go eat something, and then we can look for the cherry trees” he smiled, his finger brushing against the fabric of Dylan’s shirt.
Dylan nodded, walking away fast before Jun could notice the blush on his face.
He couldn’t admit the fact that Jun made him feel weird in a good way. Ever since they left the hotel, his chest had been feeling tight, and his heart was beating so fast that he was worried about a heart attack.
He couldn’t look into Jun’s eyes but couldn’t look away from the boy, especially when the sun lit his face from the perfect angle, his beautiful skin glowing under the sunshine and his moles looking more noticeable.
Or how his heart would skip a beat when Jun was too close to him on the subway, the cologne of the older’s making him feel dizzy.
He didn’t want to admit that he genuinely enjoyed the date, he liked being around Jun, walking around in the city, entering small shops while looking for the cherry trees.
“This one?” Jun stopped at a vintage-looking ramen shop. “Or do you want something else?”
Dylan turned his head, blinking slowly and he mumbled a small “good”, walking to the entrance without saying anything else.
He heard Jun’s small giggle before entering but tried to shake off the weird feeling in his lower stomach.
——
Dylan groaned and sat down on an empty bench, leaning back with his head snapped back with closed eyes.
“I’ve told you to work on your stamina” Jun scoffed and sat next to him, handing the younger a bottle of cold water.
Dylan straightened up and grabbed the bottle with a small thanks. “There is nothing wrong with my stamina, thank you very much. I have more than enough when I need it” he rolled his eyes and winked at Jun, the older’s cheeks heating up immediately.
“Shut up” he mumbled and looked away, turning his gaze to the pinkish trees around them. “They are beautiful” Jun whispered, more to himself as he stared at the blossoming leaves, the wind blowing a few petals around them.
“Indeed” Dylan said, his head turned towards Jun. “Beautiful.”
“Hm?” Jun turned towards the boy without his smile fading. “Did you just agree with me?” He teased Dylan with a little laugh and poked his side. “You keep surprising me today, Dyl. You ask me on a date and then agree with me?” He turned his head back towards the trees. “You must like me so much.”
Dylan opened his mouth and then closed it, wanting to deny. But he just couldn’t speak, he couldn’t tell Jun it was bullshit and this wasn’t a real date.
Because Jun actually made him speechless, for the hundredth time that Dylan didn’t want to admit.
Jun looked beyond pretty, his hair almost poking his eyes, the boy running his fingers through his bangs when the wind blew it in front of his eyes.
His never fading smile as he followed a young family with his eyes, their little girl chasing the flower petals around the park.
For a silly moment, Dylan almost imagined themselves like that.
That was when it hit him. He didn’t want to tell Jun it was a prank. Because it wasn’t a prank anymore.
Dylan enjoyed the date, he saw this as a date.
Because there and then, he realized, he had been in love with Jun this whole time.
“Would you take my picture?” Jun’s voice pulled him back to reality. He looked at the boy, holding out his phone to Dylan. “Dyl?” Jun tilted his head.
Dylan’s palms felt sweaty and his fingers were trembling as he grabbed the phone with a nod. “Sure” he cleared his voice, opening the camera app on Jun’s phone. “Here?” he looked around.
They were at a more hidden side of the park, with fewer people around, only a few families with their little kids or walking their dogs.
The huge cherry blossom trees were making a little half circle around them, a small artificial lake closing the circle.
“Yes” Jun stood up and walked towards a smaller tree. “Just get the tree in the picture. And make sure I look handsome.” He winked at Dylan and posed.
Dylan gulped, zooming in to Jun with shaky fingers. “That won’t be difficult” he mumbled to himself, Jun being too far to hear it.
He clicked the button a few times, Jun moving around confidently in front of the camera.
“Okay, your turn!” He ran back to Dylan, grabbing his phone, Dylan looked up at him with wide eyes. “Don’t look at me like that. C’mon, I will take your picture” he grabbed Dylan’s shoulders, pulling him up gently.
Dylan’s heart skipped a beat when Jun’s fingers wrapped around his bony shoulders, his grip feeling strong but gentle.
“I don’t-“
“Go” Jun smiled and pushed Dylan a little, the younger stumbling forward, then walked towards the same spot as Jun was before. “Pose!” Jun groaned, the phone camera already on Dylan.
He looked at Jun, the older smiling at him from behind the camera.
He saw everything as if it was in slow motion, as Jun motioned him to go a little left or right, as Jun’s lips curved into a small smile and his eyes formed a line.
Meanwhile, his heart was beating super fast, trying to escape his chest with each beat.
He just couldn’t keep looking at Jun, not when the older made him feel like this. A way nobody has made him feel like, none of his previous partners or anyone he has liked before.
Jun was so different.
Despite their relationship with the nonstop bickering, he never actually hated Jun. It was just all part of the process of falling in love with him.
Jun yelled to him, telling him to turn to the side a little, but Dylan’s phone buzzed just the same moment.
He put up his finger and grabbed his phone, seeing Nano’s name on the screen, with a short message.
“How’s the date, fools?”
And next to Nano’s name, their group chat name.
Nano sent it to the group chat.
Dylan gulped, his eyes slowly moving up from his phone towards Jun’s direction.
The older was looking at his phone, the wide smile from his face fading immediately, then he looked up as well, his eyes meeting Dylan’s.
The look on Jun’s face tightened Dylan’s chest, but it wasn’t the electric, bubbling feeling. It hurt; it made him tremble.
“Jun” he walked towards the boy, but with Dylan’s each step forward, Jun took one backwards.
“I should have known” he laughed in disbelief. “Oh my god I should have known” he put his hands up. “You are the fucking worst, Dylan.”
“Jun-“ Dylan whined, his voice sounding desperate and broken. “Jun, listen to me”
“No” he shook his head. “Let’s go back and just don’t talk to me.” And with that, Jun headed towards the subway station near the park, not even waiting for Dylan to catch up with him.
Dylan tried to run after him, tried to explain himself, that it wasn’t completely a prank, but Jun had already put his earphones on, not even looking at Dylan.
On the subway, Jun chose the seat as far from Dylan as possible, only going closer to him when they had to get off.
He acted like this during their whole way back to the hotel, just completely ignoring Dylan. Their date just took a 180 degree change, going from the best to the worst with only one message.
And Dylan couldn’t do anything. He just followed Jun, his chest hurting and feeling the urge to just break down crying in the middle of the street.
He was mad at Nano but mostly at himself. He didn’t want to hurt Jun, it was supposed to be a harmless joke. He didn’t think, this date would make him realize his feelings, and Jun would actually enjoy their time together.
He didn’t think his best day would turn into a disaster in just a few seconds. Yet there he was, at the entrance of the hotel, Jun already headed towards the elevator, not even looking back at Dylan.
When Jun got into the small elevator and closed the door after his eyes met Dylan's, the younger finally let the tears flow down his cheeks.
It hurt. So damn much.
“Thanks.” He texted Nano with trembling hands, calling the other elevator and angrily wiped off his tears with the back of his hand.
Nano sent back a message with question marks.
“Thanks for your message. Now I didn’t have to tell Jun it was a prank. Thanks. Really”
His phone rang, Nano’s face lit up the screen. Dylan hesitated to answer, but as he got into the elevator, he swiped to pick up the phone.
“What is your problem?” Nano’s voice echoed. “Why are you like that with me? It was a prank, Dylan.”
For a few seconds, the older didn’t reply, he was scared he wouldn’t be able to talk without ending up in tears again. But after a deep breath, he talked.
“He hates me now. So much. And it feels so bad, it hurts Nano” his voice cracked. “We had such a great time, then he saw the message and-“
“So you finally admit that you are in love with him?” Nano cut him off. The call went silent.
The elevator let out a small ping, reaching Dylan’s floor.
“Yes” he whispered and ended the call, shoving his phone back into his pocket.
He wanted to go to Jun’s room, but he hesitated. There is no way he would let Dylan in, not after this. Maybe in a few hours, once he calmed down and Dylan definitely needed to clear his head and talk to Nano. About everything.
So he did so. He knocked on Nano’s door, the youngest welcoming him with a small hug, mumbling apologies into the crook of Dylan’s neck as the older let his sobs break free, squeezing Nano’s smaller body with his arms, letting out every emotion.
He wasn’t actually mad at Nano, how could he. The youngest was his best friend, someone who he could always count on and trust with all his heart. So, finally opening up and telling Nano about his newly discovered feelings wasn’t difficult at all.
And Nano listened, smiling at Dylan, caressing his back to help him calm down from the intense emotions.
They just talked, for hours. About Dylan and Jun, about Nano’s own heartbreaks and crush, about how disgusting Thame and Po are during practice when Thame starts kissing his boyfriend too hard, or how Gam is the sweetest girl and how lucky Pepper actually is.
How bad they both wanted to have a relationship as Thame and Po or Pepper and Gam.
How Jun would be the perfect boyfriend for Dylan, putting up with his temper but also never getting tired of Dylan’s mischievous behavior.
“Talk to him” Nano looked up Dylan, hs head laid on the older’s lap. “He needed time to think as well. I know P’Jun, he will hear you out”
Dylan sighed and played with Nano’s hair. “I don’t know… He looked different from what he usually does after we fight…” he mumbled under his nose.
“Because he cares about you, Phi. And he agreed on this date because he wanted it to happen” the youngest smiled and sat up. “Now go, he has to be awake” Nano looked at the time on his phone, still being a few minutes before midnight.
So Dylan left, listening to their youngest and headed towards Jun’s room, feeling more nervous than ever.
He could have texted him, asking him to talk things out. Receiving the message that he didn’t want to, that he hated Dylan.
So he didn’t. He just walked there and knocked on the door, waiting for an answer.
“Go away” Jun talked, from right behind the door.
“Jun, please let’s talk” Dylan begged, leaning his forehead against the wooden door.
“Why? So you can fool me again? What else have you got, hm?” He heard the younger’s voice fading, Jun probably walking away from the door.
“Jun!” Dylan cried out, knocking on the door again. “Jun, please. Let me talk to you” he kept knocking, his knuckles turning red and achy before the door opened, revealing Jun.
He was dressed in a large t-shirt and shorts, his hair damp and barefaced, his moles on full display for Dylan’s eyes.
Has he always been this handsome? Why is Dylan noticing it only today.
“Talk” Jun leaned against the door frame, crossing his arms and looked at Dylan with an emotionless expression, but his eyes shook a little.
“Can I go in?” Dylan’s voice was quiet and higher pitched than usual.
Jun only sighed and pushed himself away, letting Dylan enter just like in the morning.
“I give you five minutes. We have a concert tomorrow, so you’d better hurry” he sat on the chair next to the bed, Dylan following him and taking a seat on the bed, facing the older.
He wanted to just simply tell him, he was in love with him, that even though it was a prank at first, it made Dylan realize his feelings.
But the words just didn’t come, he could only stare at Jun’s face, his lips moving in silence.
“Great. That was enough” Jun stood up and walked towards the door.
“Jun” Dylan stopped him. “Jun. I am sorry” he stood up and held Jun’s wrist. “It was a prank. For April’s fools,” he mumbled, looking at their hands. “Nano dared me. To take you on a date but-“
“Enough” Jun pulled his hand away. “I’ve heard enough, Dylan. You are just… an asshole. Go play your games with someone else”
“Jun” he grabbed him again. “I am not playing games” he whined. “Jun… Junnie. It was supposed to be a prank date. But for me, it wasn’t a prank. I enjoyed it.”
“So? It was still just a prank Dylan” Jun sighed and closed his eyes in defeat. “You didn’t actually want to go on a date with me. So congratulations, you fooled me”
“Just listen to me” he let go off Jun’s hands and cupped his face, Jun’s eyes popping open in confusion. “Jun. I like you. I am in love with you, actually” his legs were trembling, almost giving up beneath himself and his heart hammered loud against his chest.
Dylan’s eyes were locked into Jun, trying to figure out any clues from his gaze.
“Is this a prank again? Because if so, you are just too fucking cruel” Just started, so Dylan grabbed his phone as he let go off Jun’s cheeks.
He showed the screen to Jun.
April 2nd
00:02
“Jun, I am in love with you” Dylan whispered.
“What?” Jun’s lips parted, his gaze shifting from the phone on Dylan’s face. “You… you what?”
“I love you, Jun. It took me too long to realize it, but today… today was different. And I enjoyed this day, because I was with you. Because I spent the day with you Jun.” his palms were back on Jun’s cheeks, his thumb caressing the soft skin of the older. “And I am sorry for making you feel like that. I shouldn’t have lied to you about this” he whispered, leaning close to Jun’s face, his heart throbbing in his ears.
“It’s not a prank, right?” Jun whispered, too, his eyes darting between Dylan’s eyes and lips.
“No. Not a prank. So…” he looked into Jun’s eyes then to his lips.
“You don’t even ask me if I like you back?” Jun’s lips parted tilted his head, a small smile finally appearing on his face.
“I think your eyes tell me enough” Dylan giggled, and finally closed the distance between them, his lips meeting Jun’s slowly and gently.
He kissed Jun carefully, not rushing anything, moving his lips slowly but still trying to pour all his emotions into it.
Jun’s hand was now resting on Dylan’s waist, not wasting a second to kiss the younger back but with more confidence and urgency, squeezing Dylan’s soft flesh, encouraging him to kiss him harder, more passionately.
And Dylan understood it just right, kissing Jun deeply, moving his lips just a little faster, pulling his lower lip between his teeth and sucked on the softness before Jun opened his lips slightly, letting Dylan’s tongue invite his for a passionate dance, pressing his body against the other’s, their hands roaming on each other’s bodies, never getting enough.
“I hate April’s Fools” Jun mumbled against Dylan’s lips, the younger chuckling lightly, leaning his forehead against Jun’s.
“No. No you don’t” he murmured and kissed the older again, with the same passion and urgency, not leaving his lips free even for a second that night or for the months and years coming.
