Chapter 1: If my arms are broken, I broke them myself.

Chapter Text

Eclipse stared at the window of the cafe, as he looked at a flyer for a job.

“You cannot actually be thinking about taking the job.” Ruin’s voice said through the phone, with a stern tone. “You know how dangerous that’ll be!”

“What choice do we have? We need the money, Ruin.” He says, sighing as he looks to the cafe counter, where a woman with pink hair was taking orders.

“Then we’ll get it from somewhere else, not from where there are people who want to kill you!” His roommates voice hissed.

Eclipse understood Ruin’s concern, as It was fair for him to be. He was the vigilante of the 16th district, but not just that.

He had exactly two powers, which was already rare.

One was…..well, a mental power. Information, if he had to call it anything. He had trained it over the years to be smarter and quicker, as well as able to analyze wounds, alert him of danger, and let him know when rent was due.

And the other was Healing. Not just any minor healing one, but one that could replace bloodlost, missing limbs, and regenerate organs. A very sought-after power among heroes, villains, and Mafia.

And he just so happened to be looking at a flyer for a position,

To be an PR manager at the heroes tower, to…..The Solar tree, some of the most powerful heroes in the country.

‘Looking for a PR manager for our beloved ! Will have to be

-over 18

-Willing to work alongside some of our country's greatest heroes!

- know how a computer works

-And, finally, have fun while working there!’

“Isn't there anything else you could work for?” Ruin’s voice cut through his thoughts, and he paid attention to his roommate again. “I’ve tried, Ruin. but either they already have enough job offers as it is or its something sketchy.” He said. “Besides, we could top a month's rent with just the first paycheck, and still have enough leftovers for food.” He reasons, looking at the pay.

“Why does it have to be you, though? Why can’t i-?” Ruin pauses, and a dark silence falls between the two on the phone as Eclipse stares at the flyer. “....All the documents are in order. I’m legally twenty and have a minor mental power that reminds me of danger. Please, Ruin, I promise I'll be careful.”

“Fine. I'll schedule an interview for the 8th. But be fucking careful, you hear? Or I'll break into jail just to punch you.” Ruin threatens, before hanging up. Eclipse considers this a win, and stands up. “Are you going to leave without ordering anything sir?” says the woman with pink hair, who has a concerned look in her eyes. “Uh- yes, why?” He says, and the woman squints before taking out a bag of cinnamon rolls and dumping them into his arms.

“For you and whoever that was on the phone. On the house, no favors.” Eclipse sputtered, trying to keep a grip on the bag and just nodded at the woman, knowing better than to question a lower’s generosity.

If they gave it with no strings attached, then you took it with no questions asked.

As he and Ruin ate a few cinnamon rolls, he thought over the situation.

He, a 16 year old who had graduated highschool at 14, who’s entire existence was technically illegal, was going to go to an interview to work for heroes, with fake documents saying he was 20 and had a minor power, while in reality, had two majorly overpowered powers, and was also a vigilante.

All because some fucker decide to blow up the bakery he was working at.

Peachy.

“You're going out on patrol? The interview’s tomorrow, in case you haven't checked your calendar.” Ruin says as Eclipse gets on the mismatched suit that was his ‘look.’

“I’m aware. I need to patrol, since Ice got hit and broke his arm.” Ruin gave him a look. “I’ll be fine, you ass.” Eclipse huffs, pulling on the goggles that he had traded for at his old job. Ruin sighs. “You're going to break your Ribs if you keep this up.” the man says. “If I go tonight, I'll take off for the rest of the week.” He relents. “Fine. you better keep to that promise, you hear?”

Eclipse nods, before slipping out the window. He actually couldn’t believe he got Ruin to back off, but he’d take it. The man could be downright overprotective when it comes to Eclipse’s safety.

He ran across the rooftops, connecting to the comms that all vigilantes –the experienced ones at least– used to find crime and half off coupons.

“Is this district 16?” Said the guy on the other end. Eclipse tapped the comm on his ear twice for yes. He had been assured by Ice, one of the most famous vigilantes in the lower districts known for evading capture, stopping trafficking rings, and promoting small scale businesses for those in lower, telling him that this line was protected.

“You should really come up with a name for yourself, you know.” The Australian on the comm remarks. “Bank robbery on Tersi street, not avenue, and be wary of those rats, mate.” Eclipse hummed, before turning off the comm and sprinting that way, already using his powers to scout out the robbery. ‘Three men……two powered, no hostages, good, that makes this easier.’ He flexes his fingers, before jumping down onto one of the men, hearing a crunch the man's arm breaks. He quickly dodges an attack from one of them, using a street light to give him leverage to jump back.

He winces as he lands, feeling the twinge in his leg. Damn. “Great, the orange bergrade is here.” Growled one of them. Oh, a woman apparently. Eclipse straightens and dodges a round of bullets shot at him, as well as a blast of electricity. Ah, fun. He kicked one in the head right behind the ear, causing him to hit the concrete as well.

He was shoved into the gravel by the woman, her foot on his ribs, who had gotten behind him while he wasn’t looking. He coughed, but took this to his advantage by hitting her in the neck, and getting up enough to slam her head down and keep her there while getting out a rope to tie her up. Before he could tie the other two, a knife was lodged into his arm before he could react. He gripped it, before looking at the man he had originally jumped on.

He gritted his teeth under the mask, and he stood up. At least he wasn't powered. He avoided a punch from the man, before hitting him in the gut, paired with an uppercut. Once the man fell, he let out a sigh of relief. He tapped on the comm once to trigger the comm, before tapping three times for police. “You sure you're good to get away mate? That's a nasty fight you just had.” He tapped once for no, before climbing onto the roof and out of the scene. Soon, he could hear the sirens of the police, and he made away just a bit faster.

“Eclipse? What are you doing back so soon-?” Eclipse opened the window, and Ruin cursed. “Shit, when i told you you’ll break a rib, i didn’t mean it!” He takes eclipse’s arm quickly, sitting him down on the mattress. “Don't know if its really broken. Ankles shit though.” He remarks, and Ruin curses again. “If only your power worked on yourself.”

Yup. Eclipses overpowered healing power, one that could make organs and limbs-

Doesn’t work on himself.

“You're going to kill me with a heart attack someday.” Ruin says as he finishes wrapping his wounds. Eclipse gives him an awkward shrug, and his roommate just sighs. “You're an idiot. Get some sleep, and you're taking the mattress, no arguing.” Eclipse huffed, but crashed against the stiff mattress, passing out almost immediately.

He awoke with a groan, cringing as his ribs made themselves known. He managed to get on a light green shirt and blue jeans, as well as an orange jacket. His ankle twinges as he walks into the living room, and Ruin gives him a worried look. “You sure you’re going to be able to get through the interview? That AI they have there can detect injuries.” He asks, putting down a plate with half of a cinnamon roll.

“I’ll think of something if it comes to that.” He sighs, looking to his roommate. “I’ll call you once I'm out of the interview to tell you how it goes, alright?” He says, looking at him. “You better.” The brit replied.

District two was clean. Almost disgustingly so, with it smelling like flowers and just fresh. Anyone who lived or grew up in the lower districts gag at the smell they aren’t used to.

There wasn’t even any litter on the platform when he got off in the district!

In anycase, he ignored the stares of people that were very much judging his poor attire and hair, and walked towards the hero tower.

‘Remember, you are Eclipse Risk Rise, 20, with a minor mental power, and have a roommate of the same age.’ he thinks to himself as he makes his way inside, swallowing.

The receptionist smiled at him. “Hello there! I’m Roxanne, and you are?” She asked, tilting her head, the wolf ears on her head twitching. “Eclipse, last name Rise. I'm here for the interview..?” She typed on her computer and nodded, looking back up at him. “You’ll want to go to the 28th floor.” He blinked. “...thanks..?” He made his way to the stairs, not even bothering to look at the elevator access.

In the stairs, he ignored the way his ankle twitched and his stomach hurt, hoping to just get through the damn interview.

“Sir, do you require medical attention? You are suffering from severe injuries.” The computer-like voice startled him out of his pain. “N-no, i'm good. Just need to get to the interview.” there was a humming noise. “I see. If it does get worse, I will be forced to inform the closest hero to you.” Eclipse winced, before noticing the door. ‘28th floor: interview floor.’ He opens it, finding another receptionist who glared at him, especially noticing his outfit.

“Excuse me? I'm here for the interview.” He says in his politest tone, and the woman scoffs, grumbling how it wasn’t her job to deal with low life, but she pointed to a room on the right.

He takes a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves, before knocking. “Hm? Oh- yes! Come in!”

He’s met with a blond haired man who smiles at him. He had two white eyes, though this was because of his power, light manipulation, Not because he was blind. His smile was kind, and he wore bells on his wrist.

Sunrise. The number 2 hero.

“I’ll be the one interviewing you today, mister….Rise, was it?” He says, and eclipse nods dumbly. “P-please, take a seat, you look exhausted!” He smiled. Eclipse sat down in the chair in front of the desk, noticing how comfortable it was right away. “So, I'll begin with a staple question: How do you feel about the tower, since you’ll be working in it?” He asks, and Eclipse considers this question. The tower was up high, which some people might not be comfortable with, and the danger of working inside a building with so many heroes was reasonable.

“I feel fine about the tower. I signed up for this job knowing it was where I was going to be working.” He says, and Sun smiles. “I see!” He then tilts his head. “I notice the power on your file says its a minor power that can detect danger. Why not become a bodyguard or hero?” He asks, a small frown. Eclipse took a deep breath. “My power only works if I’m going to be in danger, not if another person is. It can let me know if someones using their power on me, but it only lets me know if I'm in danger. Besides, I have no physical powers, just a bit of practice and knowing how to hold my own in a fight.”

Sun was looking at him with a soft look, smiling. “Did i…say something wrong?” Eclipse questioned, concerned by his silence. “What? No no no! I was just impressed by your honesty. Most people give the answer “I never found the time” or something similar. Its…refreshing.” He says. “Now, that's the end of the interview. We will send you an email regarding if you are accepted or not. Do you have any questions?”

Eclipse blinks. ‘It’s over that quick? I might have messed up.’ he quickly got up. “N-no, no questions-”

“Actually Sir, Mr. Rise here has A broken rib and sprained ankle.” The AI in the computer decided then to ruin eclipse's life. Sun stared at him with a horrified expression.

Eclipse glared up at the ceiling.

“Snitch.”

Ruin was gonna kill him.

Chapter 2: A Lunar Eclipse, and an astral 'what the fuck?'

Summary:

“....you know ... .the elevators taking quite a while.” Eclipse said, And Sun frowned. “I pressed the button for the third floor.” the doors opened. “Ah! There we are!” Sun guides him through the medical carts and doctors, over to where an annoyed light purple/light blue haired short man was standing.

“Is there a good reason you decided to take me out of my training?” The man complains.

“He’s got a broken rib and a sprained ankle.” Sunrise says, while Eclipse is slightly hidden behind him as holyshit that’s Astral the vigilante hunter.

Notes:

I Just posted this yesterday, the fuck-

in any case, thank you for those people who have read it.

Chapter Text

Eclipse was so fucked.

Sunrise stared at him with horror in his eyes, mouth open. Eclipse thought about just slowly backing out of the room, when The hero rushed up to him. “Why are you here if you're injured?? With a broken rib no less?!” he exclaims. “I…. uhh…” He was drawing a blank as the worried hero brought him out of the room towards the elevator. “Computer! Have Earth take the rest of my interviews for the day, or c-cancel them or something! Call Lunar to the floor!” He says to the AI.

“The medical floor, Sun?” The AI asked.

“Yes, please, the medical floor!” He says, pushing the stunned eclipse into the elevator.

“Are you alright? Why are you here if you're injured??” The hero questioned again, and eclipse blinked out of his stupor of being manhandled by THE Sunrise. “I-i couldn’t just reschedule an interview like that!” He says. “Besides, my roommate handled it.” Sunrise frowned. “Your roommate knows first aid?” Eclipse winces. “We live in the lower districts.”

An understanding falls across Sun’s face, and he nods. “Okay…s-sorry if I freaked you out. I’m used to my siblings telling me when they’re hurt.” He explains, a nervous stutter to his voice.

“It’s…fine. My roommate worries about me too, but there's not much we can do about it.” He says, shrugging and looking at the closed door. “I had him look at my injuries, so it wasn’t too bad.” He adds, glancing to the hero for a moment.

Well, he probably wasn’t getting the job, so maybe he could have some fun with this.

“If you commit a crime but you can change your age to a toddler, will you even remember where you put it, because baby’s don't have object permanence?” He questions, leaning against the wall of the elevator. Sunrise blinked, before turning to him. “I’m sorry, what?”

“You heard me.” He says, not turning to look at him. “I…..how does someone even respond to that?” He says. “I asked my roommate, and he threw a book at me.” Silence, before the Hero snorted. “He's done with you, isn’t he?” He asks, and Eclipse nods.

Astral raises an eyebrow. “Is he good? He's looking at me like I'll rip out his eyes.” Sunrise turns to eclipse, who for his credit did in fact look like Astral was going to rip out his eyes. “Eclipse, this is Lunar, who you know as astral, my brother.” Sunrise says. Eclipse nods, swallowing. “W-why do we need him here?” He asks, and Sunrise smiles.

“Lunar’s better at examining wounds than I am, and while he doesn’t have a healing power, I trust him to take care of the injuries.” He says, leading him over to a bed. On the way, Eclipse caught sight of a raven haired man with a white bandanna and a brown haired man with a set of glasses on his head. Eclipse sat down on the bed, which Astral- Lunar, rather, walked over to him.

“Lift up your shirt, please.” He said, sounding bored. The boredom was Quickly erased as he saw the bruises across Eclipse’s stomach area. “Holy shit!” He immediately gasped. “Did someone shove you into concrete?” He says, not really asking. “Gravel, actually.” He says, and immediately regrets it when the two pairs of eyes snap to him. “Mugging.” He says, which, for someone in lower, it explains it.

Lunar frowns. “Still, for a mugging, that's pretty bad.” He says. “What's with the bandage on your arm?” He adds, tilting his head in question. “I got stabbed as well, but my roommate stitched it back up.” Sunrise gave him a absolutely horrified look. Lunar just hummed. “I’m going to trust that your roommate knew what they were doing and did it properly. What about the ankle?”

Eclipse shrugs. “Our stairs are shit.” he responds. Sunrise seemed a little horrified still, but Lunar sighed. “Well, good news is its fixable. Just don’t get slammed into a wall and you should be fine.” He says, handing him a glass of water and a pain killer. He took it without being asked. “So, am I good to go, or…?”

Lunar nodded. “Yeah, just be careful not to get hurt again. I'd rather not see you dead on the TV next morning.” He waved by, while Eclipse just blinked. Sunrise guided Eclipse to the Elevator. “Eclipse!” Says Sunrise. “I hope to see you again at some point.” He waves, and Eclipse gives an awkward wave back, not sure how else to respond to the hero.

What the fuck had just happened?

He vaguely remembers passing by Roxanne's desk, before walking out of the hero tower. Eclipse rubbed his temples, trying to process that he met one pro hero, got snitched on from the AI, went to the med bay, met the vigilante hunter, and then got medical treatment from one of said heroes.

He’s soooo not getting the job.

Eclipse Sighed as he crashed on the couch, groaning. “Well? How did it go?” Ruin asked. “The AI told them about my wounds. They brought me down to med-bay.” Ruin sighed. “I Told them I got mugged.” Eclipse added after a second of silence.

“Did they believe you?” Ruin asked. “I think so, considering they didn't arrest me.”

That's when Eclipse had the realization.

“I met THE Sunrise!” Eclipse suddenly said, slightly screeching. Ruin jumped. “Holy shit, I met Astral!” He breathed. Ruin rolled his eyes but snorted. “You and your fanboying.” He says, and eclipse glares, and kicks a pillow at the British man. “Ass.”

Ruin catches it without looking, and types on the computer. “Ice is back up, and Looks like the Watch commander Vimes’ and his captain are patrolling tonight too.” he says, and Eclipse hums. “What do we have to eat?” He asks, and Ruin winces. “Lots of cinnamon buns, and those nuts we got half off, that's about it.” Eclipse sighs.

He might as well start looking at any jobs he could do for money, since he wasn’t going to get this one. Could he get money as a vigilante? He knew that guy, Coin, sold some guns and did jobs for the mafia every once in a while. He huffed and turned on the couch, wincing at his ribs.

Could this get any worse?

Turns out, it could, as when he went out to the market to see if they had anyone up for hire, guess what fucking happen?

He got hit in the ribs by some ass hole running from Coin(thanks a lot). He groaned, leaning against the wall, just praying for the day to be over. He didn’t even get off his block, for fuck sakes. He just gave up at that point, and went back to the apartment, not really hearing Ruin until he said ‘Email.’

He blinked. “W-what?” He says, looking to Ruin for an explanation.

“I said, you got an Email from The Tower’s hiring management.” Ruin says, handing him the computer. “Great. I probably got a ‘could not hire’ letter or somethin.” He muttered. “As if my day could get worse.”

However, that was not  what the letter was about.

“The fuck?”

He got the fucking job?!

Chapter Text

He needed a coffee.

Several, actually.

He did not fucking need to have a meltdown over the fact he got the fucking job!

He was going to commit arson and murder at the same time-

Okay, that was a bit much.

But still!

When he got there, he was gonna-fucking sue for emotional damage. Or punt someone, that works too.

He Walked to the front desk, Still thinking about this and barely remembering to say hi to Roxanne. He grabbed the worker’s pass and Went to the elevator, pressing the button for the…..69th floor. Really? Great humor, what a laugh.

The doors opened, and-

“It appears that the Child's ribs are worse!”

“Oi, What the fuck?” He said, throwing his arms out. He did not need this– this– this hate crime!

There was a burst of laughter from the living area, and when he went in, Lunar had fallen off the couch, laughing his ass off, while Sunrise was laughing into his hand. Neither of them were wearing their hero costumes, unlike yesterday.

Lunar was wearing tight jeans, with a shirt on that said ‘Where all my Ex’s go to’ and ‘Hell’ with an equal sign. Sunrise was wearing a red scarf, a plain yellow shirt and sweatpants.

“It seems like this idiot fell off the couch. Get up, Astral!” The……AI said? He narrowed his eyes at Sunrise, who had finally gained control over his laughter, and he looked to Eclipse.

If he gets fired, it will be worth it.

“I’m going to punt you.” He said, walking over and Lunar scrambled out of the way.

“Whoa! What did I do?” Sunrise said with a very amused and slightly fearful smile. He did not get an answer, because shit be damned, Eclipse hit him in the shin, and he let out a pained noise, before mumbling a curse.

Lunar let out another laugh, and stood up. “I like you! ” He took out two 20 dollar notes. (Eclipse frowned, because the hero didn’t have any apparent pockets.) “Here. I’ve always said that if someone kicked sun, I would give them 40 dollars.” He grinned.

Just then, the greatest moment happened in Eclipse’s life. Nothing would top it. Not the time he first met Ruin, or that time when he and Ruin got him Lego's for his birthday.

This. This was the greatest moment ever.

Because this was the moment the only person ever, almost considered a god, came through the stair doors.

“Why is Sun crying and holding his leg?”

The Moondrop. The number one hero.

He stares at the hero while he looks down at Sunrise, who was still muttering curse words. Lunar smugly grinning at him.

His gaze turned to Eclipse, and he froze in place.

“Ah, you must be Eclipse, right? Sun mentioned you.” He says, smiling.

Eclipse nodded, because what else was he supposed to do? This was the guy who, against all odds, survived the Explosion of the Steven warehouse when he was a hero-in-training at 14 with nothing more than his costume and a sword.

And the best part?

He had no physical powers. He had enhanced thinking and intelligence, yes, but he had no external powers. Kinda like Eclipse, which is why he was inspired to become a vigilante in the first place.

You can see why Eclipse could not form words.

“I don’t mean-” “I would like to inform-” Two Ai’s spoke at once from the ceiling, before quieting. Then, the fighting started.

“Oh, I'm sorry, did you want to speak? Go ahead.”

“No, you wanted to speak, you speak!” This back and forth continued, causing Moondrop and Sunrise to groan. “Not again…” Says Sunrise, as the two Ai’s argue in the background.

Moon catches his confused look, and chuckles. “I helped program the two Ai’s to learn. They ended up acting like siblings more often than not.” Eclipse blinks. “There's two of them….?” he says, and Moon nods, sighing.

“Computer!” He barks, and the two fall silent. “One of you, just, say what you were planning to say.”

“Mister Rise's ribs appear to be worse than yesterday.” Says one, clearly sounding smug. Sunrise snapped out of his state of holding his leg, and immediately rushed over, panicking and talking about med bay. Lunar sighed. “There's ibuprofen in the right cabinet, Sun.” Sunrise had him sit on the counter while he rummaged through the kitchen cabinet. Moondrop Walks over to him with a curious look.

“Bruised ribs?” He questions, and Eclipse gives a nervous chuckle.

“Broken, actually.” He admits, and the Hero’s eyes widen. However, unlike Sunrise’s freaking out, he stayed calm and sighed.

“Wow, someone more accident prone than lunar.” He jokes, and lunar glares while checking Eclipse ribs. “Rude.” Lunar says, rolling his eyes.

He hums as eclipse awkwardly leans back so he can look, and he nods. “It isn’t as bad as yesterday, despite what Computer says. But they are still bruised.” He looks up at eclipse and raises an eyebrow. “What happened?”

He stayed quiet, not wanting to give away a fellow vigilante to the vigilante hunter. Lunar frowned. “It’s important to know the context, eclipse. It’s not like we’re going to be mad.”

Eclipse sighed. “A mugger was running past me while I was trying to go to the store, and elbowed me.” He says, keeping out the part of Coin chasing the mugger.

Moondrop gave a confused frown, and Lunar waved a little, more focused on getting a glass of water. “Here. take the Pain killer, try to avoid people in general, and rest.” He says, hand him a pill from the bottle Sunrise had gotten for him, and the water.

He takes it with a practiced motion, Making Lunar raise an eyebrow, but he doesn't comment.

It was quiet for a minute, with Sunrise putting the bottle back. Then, because Eclipse has no control over his brain, he looks to Moondrop.

“You once stopped a train that had people in it with a street light and a ray gun-” He blurts out, and Moondrop blinks at him, before laughing. “Yup, that was me.”

Eclipse would be happy to die on this counter, right now.

“Moon, I think we hired a fanboy~!” Lunar teased, and Moondrop ruffled the shorter mans hair, snorting. “He's allowed to. He's what, 18?”

“20.” Eclipse corrects, and Moondrop narrows his eyes. “I highly doubt that, but as you say.” He looks over to Sunrise, who was standing off to the side now.  “Sun, you go down to Monty’s department. See if he’s gotten anything on the Syndicate yet.” The hero nods, and smiles at Eclipse. “Nice seeing you again, Eclipse.” He runs off to the elevator, and Moondrop beckons him along. “Come on. I’ll show you to your new office.”

“So, you know what you’ll be doing for us?” He asks as they walk into a hallway, and Eclipse nods, still a little dazed. “Y-yeah, i’m your PR manager, right?” he says, and Moondrop nods at him, amused. “Mhm.”

“So, Eclipse,” He says.

“Yes, Mr. Moondrop?” Eclipse replies back, and Moondrop laughs. “Please don't call me that, it makes me sound old. I’m only a few years older than you.” He says.

“Then….Moondrop?” Moondrop sighs and shakes his head. “Just–Moon, that's my real name. You can call me Moon.”

Eclipse blinked, and stared. “So your hero name is just…..your real name with ‘drop’ at the end?” Moon snorts. “Its the same thing with Sun. We did it when we were younger, and wanted to match.”

“Anyways, this is your office. If its too small , we can move you somewhere else-” Eclipse opened the door before he could finish, and was met with a room half the size of his apartment. Rich people. “This is….huge..” he says, and Moon hums with confusion. “Really? Its smaller than the living room.” He says.

“Yeah, but compared to my apartment, it could fit like half of it in here.” He says, and Moon gives a worried frown. “Its that small?” He says, and Eclipse nods slowly. “Yeah? Me and my roommate live in the lower districts.” His face fell, and Eclipse tried to do damage control. “It’s not that bad! Its only district 16, not district 25 or hermitSMP.” He says, giving a smile.

“Still, its hard to live in those ones.” He says, his eyes a little worried. “Are you-”

“Moon, The Tech department needs you.” Says…One of the Computers, causing them to startle. Moon sighs, but nods. “Tell Henry I'll be there in a minute.” He says, before looking to Eclipse and smiling. “Anyway, I'll leave you to it. And take it easy, its your first day.”

With that, Eclipse was left alone in his office, and he took that chance to look around.

There was a bookshelf with a few books on it, most being in relation to cats. An Astral themed bean bag was present in the corner. There were a few filing cabinets, and next to that, was a desk with a very new computer. He sat in the desk chair, almost sighing from how comfy it was.

He Hummed, not sure how to start with this. Moondro- Moon, said to take it easier, but he did still need to work.

He logged into the computer with his new work account, and saw the amount of emails it had already.

After an hour of answering emails, Lunar teleports in, causing Eclipse to nearly fall out of his chair.

“Ah, shit, sorry!” Lunar said, going over. “Since I have to practice my powers, I'm kinda encouraged to teleport anywhere.” He explains, sitting on the desk.

Eclipse gives a nod, still a little shaken. Whatever. Then he frowned at the bag in Lunar’s hand. “What's that?” He asked, and Lunar grinned. “Lunch! Moon had it ordered for you.” He says, and Eclipse took it with a bit of confusion. “What is it?”

“Sushi!” He says, and eclipse hums.

“Never had it before.” He says, taking out the container box with the sushi rolls. He narrows his eyes at it, trying to figure out what kind it is. “That's mushrooms and avocado, right?”

Lunar nods, then whistles as he looks in the bag. “Damn, he got a whole bunch a shit. He must really like you. The last person we hired, he refused to talk to them for weeks and they quit.”

“Uh……okay..” He was still slightly puzzled why he had given him food, but free food was free food. He ate the rolls with a fork, continuing to go over the emails. Lunar leaned over his desk, looking at the emails with him. “Didn't you just get this account yesterday?” He says, and Eclipse gives a tired nod.

The day continued, with Eclipse posting a picture on twitter of Moon pouring cereal into his mouth, straight from the box. That was fun.

When Sun came into his office with a smile, he looked up. “It’s time to leave.” He says, causing the orange haired teen to blink and look at his phone. It was already five, apparently. He picked up his bag, turning off the computer.

Sun looked at him oddly for a second as he stood up, before shaking his head. “Do you need help getting home at all?” He asks, and eclipse Shakes his head. “Nah, i’ll just do public transport.” he says, walking through the door.

Sun nods, and pats him on the shoulder. “Take care, okay? We would hate for anything to happen to you.

And with that, Eclipse’s day was over.

With the leftover sushi he brought home, Ruin found a folded 50 under one of the containers. He would have to remember to thank Moon at some point.

Ruin was talking about some kind of tea, and Eclipse closed his eyes.

His life was actually good for once.

He could only hope it stayed that way.

Chapter 4: Workplace Friends and Common Annoyances.

Summary:

“You alright?” The person above him said, and Eclipse pushed himself onto his knees.

The man who had pulled him up onto the train had dark brown hair with white at the edges, a little dirty, but overall well kept. He wore a blue hoodie with little frost designs near the hood. He grinned at him.

“Thanks for making sure i don't get fired.” He joked, and the person laughed.

“Trust me, i know the feeling.” He says, pushing himself up. “I’m Jackson, by the way, but I prefer Jack.” The name stirred something within his brain, but it was gone before he knew it was there.

Notes:

Fun fact, I had a few different chapter titles planned for this chapter. including , 'Chapter 4: subway meeting places.' 'Chapter 4: Bang bang bang.' and personally my favorite 'Chapter 4: Work friends, And ‘Don’t You Hate It When Your Workplaces Keep Getting Blown Up?’.' lol.

Chapter Text

Eclipse walked in, visibly excited, and Ruin sighed.

It was the end of the week, which meant….

Eclipse could go on patrol again!

Ruin frowned. “I’m not exactly happy about this, you hear? You’re working for the heroes now, you need to be careful.” he crosses his arms. “A tiny slip up and you could be in jail. Or worse, Killed. ”

Eclipse nodded solemnly, Mood dampening a little at the reminder. He knew that was always an option for the heroes, especially if you were deemed a threat. “I know, Ruin. I promise, I'll be careful.”

Ruin sighed, shaking his head. “I trust you. Its the world i dont trust.”

Eclipse nods in understanding, getting on his suit. “It’s fine. Ice and wing guy- What's his name?”

Ruin snorted, his mood lightening. “Poultry man, I believe. Or man in the chicken costume.”

Eclipse nods. “Yeah. Those two are on patrol tonight, so it won't be too bad.”

Ruin smiled, and Eclipse waved to him as he leapt out the window onto the roof of another building. He started running, and tapped on the comm in his ear once to activate.

“District 16? That you?” asked the Australian man on the other end of the line, and he tapped the comm twice.

“Christ mate, Ice an me thought you would still be down for another couple of days, after the beating you took. Now I owe Cupid 30 bucks.” Eclipse shrugged, before tapping the ear piece a few times. “Yeah yeah mate, I gotcha. Think you can take care of a warehouse robbery down in 15?”

Eclipse double tapped, and the man on the other end was heard typing. “Its a block past the really good Cafe down there, you know the one I mean.”

Eclipse starts off, quickly moving into fifteenth, and past the cafe where he first found the flyer. He skids to a halt in front of a dark building.

Gotcha.

It was a little rotted, with mice hiding in the cracks of the foundation. Expected for lower, so he didn't really spare a glance at them as he creeped around to the side, finding a fire escape and pulling himself up in one silent, fluid motion.

He climbed up to a window, looking inside to see a group of people.

What are they saying? He questioned his power, which gave him a dialogue screen in front of his vision. Fuck you power, i still need to see.

The screen moved to the side of his vision, and he matched the voices up with the people.

“I wonder why nobodys come and stopped us yet.” said the screen, while he matched the voice up with the man carrying a box of guns. “Isn’t ice supposed to be on patrol or something?”

“I doubt it, he's dealing with that fire in 12.” The screen showed, and eclipse tracked that to a man leaning against a wall nearby.

“Whatever, let's just get these guns to boss.” says someone else, who seems to be in charge.

Eclipse cracks his neck, asking his power for info on the group.

7 in total, 4 powered. This'll be fun.

He breathes in, grabbing the knife from his pocket. He fingers for the window latch thats normally on a building this old, and once he finds it, gives it a little push, as if the wind opened it. When no one inside reacted, he slowly slipped in.

The powered criminals lit up in his vision, and he spied the information on the powers. All strength related, it seemed. Guess the guy was going for brute force in his work force.

He slowly aimed his knife to throw, the black blade of the metal casting no reflection of light. He released as he threw, and it hit the one with the most dangerous powers and gun-like force. The others turned to his direction, guns aimed, but he already was knocking out one of the other powered people, and gritted his teeth as a bullet grazed his side.

He swiped under the feet of another person, noting they weren’t powered, and grabbed for his knife, which was lodged into the unconscious man's leg.

“Who the fuck is that?!” Said someone, but Eclipse took advantage of this momentary distraction and kicked up the mans gun, before throwing it at the persons head. They fell down with a thud.

He was kicked in the side and sent flying into a wall, causing him to choke on a breath.

Shit. is something broken? He questioned, sighing in relief when his power gave him a highlight of his body to show that, thankfully, nothing was broken yet. He got back up, knife in hand, and took in the surrounding circle. 3 of them, only one of them was powered.

Good, that makes this easier.

He dodged the bullet of one of them, aiming for the powered person, and sliced them in the arm with the knife. Their body fell almost instantly, and he turned to one of the other people, seeing the shock in their eyes at their fallen teammate, and taking advantage of this fact.

He kicked the gun out of their hands, before knocking them out. He took a breath, before remembering the last person.

However, it was too late, as he was shoved in the ground by a foot, causing him to cough. “Well… i don’t know who the fuck you are…” Says the man as he raises his gun.

Fuck.

“But i know i’ll have fun killing you.” he grinned under his mask, and Eclipse shut his eyes tight, waiting for the pain.

I don’t think i like people killing kids. ” Says a voice, and the gun is sliced in half by a sword. Eclipse opens his eyes to see a red cloak in front of him, With pink hair on top of the persons head.

“B-blood god!?” The man screamed, and Eclipse looked up dazedly at the figure.

The Blood God, while still having his sword pointed at the gun guy, turned to look at the vigilante, the red eyelights in his bone boar mask shining at him. They seemed to…soften?

Here, kid. ” He tossed him a vial of dark red liquid. “ Get out of here. And take one of those guns, you could use the fire power.

He hazily nodded, and scrambled for a gun, before leaving the way he came, but not before looking back at the scene. The villain had disappeared, and the person who was about to kill eclipse….he hoped he wasn't dead.

Eclipse started running, not bothering to check back into the comm. He could hear the sirens already. Once he was far enough away, he slid down against a roof, and fumbled for the clasps of his mask, pulling it off, and staring at the bottle he was given.

He hadn’t seen many, but just enough from his past to know exactly what this was.

A regen potion.

He let out a soft gasp, before wincing at the reminder of the wounds. He took a careful sip, just one, before covering it back up. He knew how valuable these were, and he knew how well they worked.

In minutes, the wounds were healing, and he put his mask back on, carefully tucking the rest of the bottle into his pocket. He slowly made his way back to the apartment, hearing a crash come from the one down below. Ignoring them, he made his way inside.

“Eclipse? Please tell me-” He stopped when he saw the gun the man was holding, and he breathed in. “Are you hurt?”

Eclipse shook his head. “Listen, Ruin. i met the Blood god.

After explaining what happened, (and putting the potion and gun somewhere safe), Eclipse was leaning against his roommate, on his phone. Neither could sleep. What was Blood god doing on his own in the lower districts?

“Did you really make yourself a twitter account for your vigilante persona?” Ruin says, unimpressed. Eclipse shrugged, looking at his phone. “I'm bored. Besides, The syndicate has one, why should it matter if i have one?” He asks.

Ruin sighs, a bit disappointed in his roommate. “You know the heroes can track that, right?” Eclipse grinned. “Thats if i had a GPS to track it with.” Ruin facepalmed. “Why do i even bother.”

The next morning, he woke up to Ruin’s hand in his hair, the two of them having fallen asleep on the couch. He wanted to curl closer, but his boss apparently had different plans. His phone buzzed, and he groaned, checking it while making sure not to wake up his roommate.

Moon Crator

Oi.

This is lunar, im just using moons phone cause sun banned him for now.

Anyway, just a reminder that you have work today.

Eclipse huffed, and reluctantly detached himself from his sleeping roommate. He replaced himself with a pillow, and the British man curled around it, causing Eclipse to smile. Taking a small bowl of nuts for breakfast, he sent a text to Ruin to let him know that he's at work, before making his way downstairs.

He ran into his neighbor, Tech or something, and murmured sorry before going past and out the door, running to see if he could catch the train.

When he slid down the steps and onto the platform, he saw the doors just about to close. “Shit. Hey! Can someone-” A pale hand in a blue hoodie pulled him in, and as the doors shut, they hit the door behind them.

He held out his hand. “Eclipse. Nice to meet you.”

Jack grinned, showing all white teeth, and shook the given hand.

Eclipse noticed the ID he wore on his neck, which was similar to his own. “You work at the hero tower too?” He asked, and Jack blinked.

“Yup, i’m in the tech department.” He says, tilting his head. “What about you?”

Eclipse snorts. “Im the Solar Tree’s PR manager.” He says. Jack whistles. “Isn’t that with the guy who tried to stab-”

“Yes. ive only been working here a week.” He says, rubbing his temples, and the brunette laughs. “Heroes are handfuls.” He pauses. “I want that on a shirt so i can wear it into work one day.” Eclipse nods. “Superpowered 5 year olds.” Jack grins. “I think we just became friends.”

Moon was there to meet him at the tower, but saw him talking happily and joking with Jack as the two of them walked in. He sighed. “Hello, mister ‘banned from his phone.’” He says to Moon, before waving to Jack, who went up the stairs. “I’ll see you at lunch!”

Moon was staring at him blankly, and Eclipse blinked. “You good? I meant that as a joke.”

“Who was that?” He asked, voice suspiciously blank. “Jack? We just met on the train. He saved me from being late.” He says, smiling. Moon seemed to pout, before bringing him over to the elevator.

They walked past Roxanne’s desk. “Hi Roxanne! Why am i being dragged?” She shrugged, before handing him two boxes of cookies. “Ones for you and your roommate.” He saluted, before following Moon, who still looked like an unhappy toddler.

Once in the elevator, he nudges one of the boxes of cookies to him, and the hero takes them grumpily. “Are you okay????” He asked, and Moon huffed. He Sighs. Now i know how Ruin feels. He thinks tiredly as the door opens, and hes dragged into the living area and thrown onto the couch.

Okay, maybe not thrown, but he still hit it with a thud. Moon sits next to him, and when Eclipse attempts to get up, Moon full on God glares.

What have i done to deserve this? He thinks as he snacks on some of the cookies.

A list of things lit up in his vision. I wasn’t asking you, damnit. The list went away, and Eclipse sighed.

After about 10 more minutes of this, Sun walks in, and stops. “Moon, why is Eclipse not in his office?” He asks, and Moon just grumbles. Eclipse looks at sun. “Hes been keeping me here. Save me.” He begs, and Sun sighs.

“Eclipse, go do your work. Moon, stop being a toddler, i do not have enough energy for this shit.”

The two of them gaped at the Sun themed hero, who glanced at them. “What?”

“You-you just-” Eclipse said, Moon also sputtering. Sun rolled his eyes. “I just got off a 12 hour patrol and investigation, i cant be bothered to filter right now.” He responds. “Now, go do your jobs as adults.”

Dang. Eclipse did as he was told, heading to his office to do his work. He started filling out the forms he had to, making sure Lunar wasn't getting canceled on twitter for stabbing people, and that nothing had blown up. His power was acting a little anstyer than usual.

When lunch came around, he headed for the stairs, planning to meet Jack in them. He took out a container of sushi he still had left over from the beginning of the week, and sat in the stairs, eating the fish slowly.

“Damn, and I thought I'd meet you down here.” He heard, and looked up. Jack was sliding down the railing with ease, before landing on his feet next to him. He smiled.

Eclipse shrugged. “Sun’s not in the mood for any shenanigans right now, so Lunar and Moon haven't bothered me.” He says, swallowing the bite of food he was chewing on.” Jack nodded, in understanding. “My roommates are like that.”

He stood up as he finished his food. “How many?”

Jack grinned. “7.”

Eclipse’s eyes widened. “Good god, and you live in lower?”

Jack nods. “Yeah. but we’re family, y’know?” Eclipse paused. Now that he thought about it, Ruin was his family to him, even if the orange haired teen would never admit it. He smiles softly. “Yeah. i get it.”

Jack was about to say something else when Eclipse’s power flared in warning, making his ears ring, and he pulled Jack away from the wall. “Duck!”

A gunshot and the sound of an explosion had their ears ringing. A piece of the wall had become unstable and fallen nearby. When they realized the source of the noise came from below them, Eclipse took Jack’s hand. “Come on. My office is a few floors up.” Jack looked at him and nodded, as Eclipse led them up the stairs, he questioned his power.

Whats going on right now?

His power showed him the outlines of people moving throughout the building, all looking heavily protected and with guns. “It sounds like the towers getting attacked.” He says, and Jack scoffs as he pushes open the door to the Solar Tree floor. “The security guards would have already dealt with them if that was the case.”

“Not if they were using wither bullets.” Eclipse muttered, and Jack grunted in return. “Shit.”

Once inside Eclipse’s office, they pushed the bookcase against the door.

“Do you have powers?” Jack asked, and Eclipse hummed. “Do you want the legal answer, or fucked up one?” Jack cursed quietly.

“Okay. if they break through the door, just stay hidden. I'd rather not have my new friend get killed the first day i meet him.” He whispers. Eclipse gives a salute.

“Oi! This door wont open!” They both stiffen as the door is shoved, slowly hearing the wood creak.

As the door suddenly breaks open, a gust of wind pushes the intruders into the wall, and Jack jumps out, managing to take one by surprise as he kicks him…well, you know.

The man falls to the ground with a whimper, the gun he held skidding over to where Eclipse was hiding.

He stayed still, watching as jack fought off the other men. Eclipse’s stomach clenched as he saw a man behind jack raise a black knife.

Who wasn’t able to turn in time.

“Put the knife down now, or i fucking shoot!”

They all turn to look at Eclipse, who held one of their guns with such skilled precision it made them stare. Except Jack, who had a thankful look on his face.

“We know you really wouldn-” the man who held the knife was silenced as Eclipse shot the gun at another person’s leg, causing them to fall over.

“Put. Your. fuckin. Shit. down.” He growled. They obeyed shakily, and soon, Sun and Creeper came in, finding Eclipse holding the gun at them while Jack nursed his arm.

“JACK!” Creeper went up to him immediately, looking him over. “Are you alright?” He asks, and The brunette gives a small smile. “I’m okay. Just a little banged up.” The green hero looked at the ceiling. “Computer?”

“Jackson is suffering from a sprained wrist and bruised arm. It would have been worse, if Eclipse did not step in.” Replies one of the AI’s.

Eclipse sighed. “Why does every place I go to work keep getting blown up?” He says, earning very horrified looks from the heroes. Jack snorts. “Feel you there, brother.”

Down in medbay, Eclipse was getting looked over by Lunar, who really only had minor hearing damage that would be fine in a few days. “For once, you're not the one hurt. Good job.” Lunar joked, and he rolled his eyes. “Very funny.”

Jack’s wrist was wrapped, with him flexing it every now and again to check it was okay.

He was being glared at by one of the heroes, Dream. At least, he feels the mans eyes on him.

Anyway, thats a problem for future Eclipse that was probably approaching very quickly.

“I have to say, you guys handled that really well.” Says one of the doctors, Ponk, if he remembered correctly. Eclipse shrugged. “My power can detect danger if its dangerous to me. That means i knew about it a little bit beforehand.”

That explained why his power had been acting up the whole day.

“Or maybe It’s because you already knew, didn’t you, Eclipse?” Dream questioned, tone dark. Sun Bristled. “What are you suggesting about my employee, Dream?” He growls in a tone Eclipse has never heard him use before.

“I think it’s pretty clear what I mean. No one could get in here that easily without the guards notifying us. He has something to do with this.” Dream pointed at Eclipse.

As the two Heroes start arguing, Eclipse just blankly stares at them. Did….did they not know how wither items work?

Jack just sighed. Eclipse turned to look at him.

‘Idiots, the lot of them.’ Jack sighed, and Eclipse nodded solemnly in agreement.

Moon had joined the fray, arguing with Dream as well.

“How would the intruders know how to go against all of our guards?!” Dream hisses. “And how readily he held that gun?”

“They didnt need to. Don’t you guys know about wither metal?” Eclipse asked, and all eyes turn to him.

“Wither metal?” Dream questioned. “What is that, some sort of joke?”

“Nope. wither metal is what people use when going up against powered people. If a powered person is hit by the metal, they’re immediately knocked out.” He says. “And they lose control over their powers as well. Its a major thing in lower, and every smart person there has at least a shard.”

They all stare, and Jack nods as well. “Yeah, me and my roommates each got a shard at home. I got careless ever since i got hired here though, and stopped taking it with me.”

“And the gun thing can be explained too.” Jack added. “If you get mugged like us with people who have guns on a daily basis, you tend to learn how to hold a gun properly and be good at threats.”

They all stare, causing Eclipse to shift in his seat, Jack facepalming.

“Fuckin rich people.” Jack said, and Eclipse nodded. “Agreed. Rich people.”

Moon pouted.

In short, Eclipse and Jack got to leave for the day, with Moon giving him a bag of food to take with him, and Sun telling Eclipse to call if something happens.

“....How long have you been here again?” Jack asked, and Eclipse just sighs. “A week. Wanna go to the park and have some of this with me? Or do you need to go somewhere?”

Jack paused in thought, before laughing and shaking his head. “Nah, i’m free. Just gotta text one of my roommates, otherwise they’ll think i'm kidnapped and track me down.”

“Understandable.” He says, remembering one of the many, many time’s Eclipse had disappeared from Ruin’s sight when he was 10, to the point the older man had to use a child leash on him. Reminded of Ruin, he took out his own phone.

Child i found

Oi.

The building got fucking mugged, im out with a friend.

                                                                                                           Gay Brit

                                                            ???????

                                                            The actual fuck eclipse

Figuring that was enough of an answer, he looked back up to Jack on the phone. “Aster, seriously, i’m fine- no, im not kidnapped, damnit, i’m out with a friend- fuck you too, i’m hanging up-” He does exactly that, before looking at Eclipse.

“So! Where to?”

They ended up in a mall instead of the park, since the place was closed off for ‘repairs’ or some shit.

They were sitting on a bench with names carved into it, which wasn’t that uncommon. He sipped on the chocolate milk that came with the food Moon had handed him, while Jack had just finished a whole jug of water in one go.

“Yo, are you like….good?” He asks, a little concerned about the amount of water he just consumed. Jack nodded, rubbing his neck. “Its hot, and my body cant handle it well right now.” He turned to him with a strained smile. “Have you ever been to the arcade?”

Eclipse knew what that meant. As a lower, a small excuse that didnt make sense and a quick change in subject meant that this was something power related.

“No, actually. I’ve never been able to before.” He says, eyes immediately trained to see the relaxation on the man's features.

“Come on, i stole some infinite game cards a while back from here.” He flashes four cards at him. “One has over 700 hundred tickets, last i checked.”

After quickly winning every single game(including the claw machines), the two parted in district 15, with Eclipse taking a short cut back home.

“I’m home!” He shouts, throwing a plushie at The brit, who caught it with a glare. “Why did i have to learn from the news that the tower was attacked?” He says, using the Dad toneTM.

“Cause i’m fucking tired. I brought shit.” He says, placing everything on a counter. Ruin groans. “I didnt steal it! I went out with a friend who had the infinite card bull shit.” He says. Ruin raised an eyebrow. “When did you get a friend?”

“Today, actually. We met on the subway, and it turns out he works in the tower too.” He says, rubbing his neck. Ruin hummed, before nodding in approval. “You’ve had worse friends.” He says finally.

“Are you gonna patrol tonight, Eclipse?” He asks, spying the bag of food. “Je ne sais pas..after what happened last night….” He says. They go into a small silence, with Ruin finding a place for everything.

When he was done, Eclipse leaned up against him, holding a small Moondrop plush he had won tightly in his arms. Ruin ran a hand through his hair, and Eclipse finally let the events of the day catch up with him.

“They had wither bullets, Rune.” He said softly, using the nickname he made for Ruin as he clutched the mans shirt.

The hand in his hair stilled for a moment, but then continued. “That's not good. That's really not good.” He says, and Eclipse nodded tiredly into his shirt. He felt the blue and red eyes of his roommate watching him quietly.

“It’s alright, clipse. We’ll get through this. We always have.” He whispers to the teen.

Eclipse wished he could say he believed that.
