Adrien pulled the hood lower on his face as he slipped in with the crowds. Father didn’t approve of Adrien going anywhere, but a circus would be even lower on that list.
He watched the show with delight, but one performer captured his attention like no other. Dressed in dazzling red and the deepest black, and a mask to match, she flew around that tent, leaping fearlessly from trapezes. Adrien gasped with the crowd as she somersaulted through rings of fire, not a single hair on her pigtails singed.
She looked at him and smiled, and Adrien fell in love.
