Mike takes a deep breath and squeezes the hand holding El’s. She squeezes back. He leans his head on the back of the couch, looking up at the popcorned ceiling of this new house they have yet to make any lasting memories in.

Richie pulls Eddie forward until he’s straddling his lap and holds onto him for dear life. “What if he hates me or something, Eds?”
