There is a slight gap in the curtains and the last few rays of light, before it finally gets dark on this hot summer night, creep in and mark his forehead like a benediction from the universe that us lying here together is right and good.
Nick fell asleep, despite promising that this time he'd actually manage to help with clean up. He looks peaceful.
I curl up a little closer and rest a hand on his arm. Closing my eyes I concentrate on the rhythmic sound of Nick's breathing and between one inhalation and the next I drift off.
