Chapter Text

Rex's eyes opened quickly, he started breathing heavily, he looked down at his hands, he shouldn’t be here, he shouldn’t exist, or maybe, this is where you go when you stop existing? Wait, where was he?

He looked around, he was in a colorful forest, it was dark, like the sun just setted, he recognized where he was, “The Systar System? I’m back here.” he quickly punched a tree out of frustration, he couldn’t believe he was back, he was supposed to be gone.

He walked around until he noticed Rexcelsior in pieces, most of it was broken, the only parts of the ship left in tack were the ones that he could actually use as a house.

He grabbed a brick and started fixing what he could, he couldn’t rebuild it all, not only did he not have the right pieces, but his flux capacitor was gone, he couldn’t time travel, and all his raptor buddies were nowhere to be seen.

He entered the fixed living quarters, it had all he needed, games, movies, a kitchen, and a room to sleep, he was gonna fix Rexcelsior and find Emmett so he could exist, but first he needed to get cleaned up, it was clear he’d been in this forest for hours.

He took a shower and grabbed some clothes, the only ones he could find were his winter clothes, a hoodie with a vest, he grabbed himself an energy drink, hoping it would make him less tired, and opened his computer.

He quickly made a map of the area, but as he looked at his calendar he noticed that it said ‘2024’ which was the year he came from, was he sent 5 years into the future, or did he return to his timeline?

He prayed it wasn’t his, and that he was now on the same planet as his Lucy, either way he needed to fix his ship, he supposed he could probably go into town and steal some bricks, they most definitely had spaceship parts if Benny was there.

Rex left Rexcelsior and headed for town, just in case someone would recognize him he put his hood up, hoping it was just gonna be a quick in and out, until he saw the giant crowd of people in the streets, it seemed like a concert was going on.

Bright blue and pink lights came from the stage, Rex pushed through the crowd, shoving people aside, not really caring if someone got hurt, nothing he did could compare to what happened to him.

As he moved further in the crowd, he heard someone singing, who he assumed was the person the crowd was for, he couldn’t really hear what they were saying, did he care, no, until he heard their voice more clearly.

They sounded familiar, the voice was the sweetest thing he heard in a long time after being in the Undar, Rex was able to get a good view on the stage, and he saw a face he’d wish to never see again, it was Lucy.

Rex ran in the opposite direction, he’d just forget about this, get his bricks, and never see anyone again, foolproof plan, until he ran into another familiar face, one that was too colorful for him.

“Hi! Would you like a Wyldstyle shirt?” Rex saw Unikitty jump in front of him, Rex jumped back, “Oh, sorry for scaring you…..you’re not from around here, are you?”

“No, now leave me alone.” Rex grumpy, before walking away in a harsh manner, Unkitty stopped him before he could even leave the crowd.

“You don’t look too happy, don’t worry, I know someone who can help cheer you up, she’s my bestest friend.” Rex knew exactly who she was talking about, he simply pushed her out of the way and was able to get in an alleyway, taking off his hood.

Rex leaned against the wall and thought to himself, Unikitty didn’t recognize him, which was good, no one would know him, though he didn’t expect her to, his past self couldn’t recognize himself, he could walk into town and leave without anyone knowing, that was good.

“Are you ok?” Rex heard Unikitty’s voice, he turned to see her looking at him with puppy eyes, he sneered and tried to walk away, he would’ve if it wasn’t a dead end, “Hey, you alright? You don’t seem to be having a good time.”

“Just leave me alone, I don’t really like this at all.”

“No, you seem upset about something else.”

“What?”

“I can tell if someone’s been grumpy for a long time, hey, you meet my friends, and we can make you happy!”

“No.”

Unikitty tried to say something before someone screamed, it caught both of them off guard and they saw the crowd run in panic from what looked like to be a shooting star, but when it crashed in front of the stage it was clear it was a spaceship.

“Wyldstyle!” Unikitty ran off to the stage, she jumped up to make sure Wyldstyle was ok, “You ok? What happened?!”

“I’m fine Unikitty, I don’t know.” Suddenly the spaceship opened, water poured out and fish people jumped out, they snarled at Wyldstyle and Unikitty, and a podium came out of the ship.

“Greetings weaklings of the Systar System, I am General Wrecked, of the Frish Tank System, we are here to ask you to give us the one known as The Special, if you do not comply, your planet will be destroyed in five days, if we are not given The Special.”

“Well, unfortunately for you General, The Special is not on this planet, he’s……not here, so leave this planet, or else.” Rex heard everything, these fishy freaks were looking for him, he couldn’t just walk up and say ‘hey, I’m The special’ he didn’t want that life again.

“Well then, your world shall be Kragled by our king, and if you think about fighting back.” he clapped his hands and another spaceship brought the ruined pieces of Rexcelsior, “We’ve already taken one of your defenses down easily, resist and this will be you.” he clapped his hands again and Rexcelsior’s damaged pieces were set ablaze, rendering them more useless.

Rex was mad, not as mad as when he was left alone, but he wanted to punch that freak for destroying his one way off this planet, “Wait! What if we find The Special, he’s out there……somewhere…i- if we find him can we make a deal.” Lucy said glaring at General Wrecked.

“If you can find The Special and bring him to us in five days, we shall spare you of any punishment for not bringing him to us.”All the fish freaks jumped back into their ship and it flew off with the other spaceship.

“Five days… we got this… we can find him in five days, we can find him.” Lucy was starting to tear up, she hadn’t been able to find him for five years, what makes her think she can do it in days, “We got this, I’ll just hop in a spaceship and search every corner, from Bricksburg to outside the universe, haha, no sleep.”

Unikitty put a paw on her shoulder, “Wyldstyle, when are you going except he’s gone, we couldn’t find him then what makes you think we can now.”

“I DON’T KNOW! We just have to find Emmett, h- he’s somewhere out there, i just know it." At this point Lucy has broken down into tears, hugging herself, trying to stay calm and smiling, “He’s out there, I just know we’ll find him.”

Rex goes over to his ship as Lucy breaks down, he’s more focused on the ship right now, “Damnit, my ship is ruined, now I’ll never get off this stupid planet!”

Lucy and Unikitty turn to him, Lucy jumps off the stage, “Um, sir?”She says wiping tears away, “Was that your ship?”

“Yeah! It was! What about it!” Rex turned to face Lucy, he hadn’t seen her in five years, now he’s looking right at her face, with tears clearly in her eyes, “yeah….” he looked down at the ship, mainly cause he couldn’t look at her with everything he wanted to say.

“Oh, um, I’m sorry about your ship.”

Unikitty bounced next to Wyldstyle, and she got an idea, “Mr, you’re from the Systar System are ya?”

“Nope.”

“Wyldstyle, why don’t we pass him off as The Special!” Lucy turned to Unikitty, her eyes told that she wasn’t the biggest fan of the idea, while Rex looked annoyed and confused, “We can have him play as The Special to see what the fish guys want with Em- him, since ya know we couldn’t find him.”

“I’m sorry, I have no idea what's going on, but all I know is that I don’t want to be a part of it, I’m gonna have to decline.”

“That might work…”

Rex looked at Lucy, with more anger than he had for her, “I’m sorry, what? Didn’t ya hear I don’t want to be a part of this… thing.”

“Sir, I’m sorry but please, we don’t really have any other choice, please just do this for us, we can get you a new ship if you want, just help us out this once, please.”

“......fine.” Lucy gleamed with happiness and tried to hug Rex, but he pushed her away, “But I got some rules, first no hugs, second I live in whatever is left of my Rexcelsior, third once this is all over, I don’t want to see any of you again.”

“Of course, sir, um, if you’re gonna help us, it’d be nice to know your name, I’m Wyldstyle.” Lucy reached out hand for Rex to grab, he didn’t and got up.

“Rex, Rex Dangervest, Raptor trainer, space traveler, cowboy, and super handsome.” he said as he winked, he didn’t know why he did that in front of Lucy of all people, Lucy slightly blushed a bit, she didn’t really know why, he just was handsome.

“Nice to meet you Rex, hey, when you said you travel space, did you meet someone wearing an orange vest, and with the nicest…personality…” Lucy said while looking down with an expression of sorrow.

“No.”

“Oh, ok.” Lucy took a deep breath, “We should probably get you to the Queen, so we can inform her on everything.” the Queen, this was not gonna be a good day for Rex, he reluctantly followed Lucy and Unikitty to the royal castle, they arrived at a construction site, “Oh right, the renovations, it’s fine just some mirrors.”

They walk past the covered mirrors, Rex notices that one says ‘see your past’ he got curious and lifted up the cover, and he saw Emmett, he didn’t linger too long and continued through the castle, he didn’t want them to know it was him.

Lucy knocked on the door of the Queen, Ice Cream opened the door for them “Ms Wyldstyle, Ms Unikitty, Mr….. uh?”

“Dangervest.”

“Mr Dangervest… welcome.” Queen Whatevra Wanabi and her husband Batman sat on their throne, “Your majesty, you have visitors.”

“Wyldstyle, how have you been, oh, and who’s this little guy.” Whatevra morphed her body to get close to Rex and circle him.

“This is Rex Dangervest, he’s here to help us, a spaceship crashed and the fish people inside it said they’ll destroy our world in five days if we didn’t give them…..The Special.” Lucy looked sad, the colorful glint in her eyes was faded.

“Oh, but he’s not…. So what’s with Dangervest?”

“Right, he is helping us, by pretending to be The Special, in return we’ll give him a new ship.” Batman eyed Rex, Rex was glaring daggers at Batman.

“Are we sure that would be a good idea, like hypothetically, what if they’ll sacrifice him to a god?”

“I can handle myself, you don’t train with raptors and come out weaker than a brick wall.”

“You mean train raptors?” Lucy asked

“No, I used to train with raptors, mainly speed, couldn’t really do much strength based workouts with them, but I found other ways to push my strength, now I’m at the pinnacle of strength.” Unikitty looked in awe.

“Wow, you’re so cool.”

“Yeah, I know.”

“Guys focus, we’ll tell everyone of the Systar System about this plan, and hopefully these invaders will be satisfied with Rex, I mean, he definitely looks like he’d be chosen for something.”

“Right, Mr Dangervest, would you like to stay in the castle while we prepare your new ship?”

“No I think I’ll just sleep in what remains of my old one.” he starts to walk out of the room not saying goodbye to anyone.

“Oh, no no no, you are not gonna be our savior and sleep in junk.” Rex thought to himself for a moment, he was gonna be saving these people, people he left to rot in Armamageddon, he still wanted to sleep in his own ship.

“No, I’m good, it’s got a bed.” he left quickly, not wanting them to catch up with him, he ran towards his ship, seeing that the fish freaks left the intact stuff alone, he entered and went to his bed and closed his eyes, hoping to just not think.

Chapter Text

Rex opened his eyes wide, he was back at the Undar, he couldn’t move, he hadn’t had this dream in a long time after meeting his past self, he was back to where it all went wrong, when everyone abandoned him.

He heard his name get called out, “Rex!” that was new to the dream, he just sat in silence, he looked around and kept hearing it, “Rex!” The voice was familiar, it sounded like Lucy’s, Rex found he could get up in this dream, he looked around and saw Lucy, not Wyldstyle, Lucy, with her bright hair and vibrant clothes.

He wanted to say something but he didn’t, he didn’t he just stared at her, “Rex!” she just kept saying his name over and over, waiting for a response, Rex tried to cover his ears but it just got louder and louder.

He couldn’t take it anymore and just yelled, “WHAT LUCY!” When he woke up, he got out of his bed, and looked out the window, he wasn’t in the forest anymore, he looked outside and saw the castle, “what the?”

Rex rushed out only to be greeted by Sweet Mayhem and Whatevra, “Oh, hi, are you The Special?”

“Yes, yes I am.” he had an annoyed tone in his voice, "hey what happened, why is my ship here?”

“Sorry about that Mr Dangervest, we didn’t want you to be in the forest, who knows what could’ve happened to you, you could’ve been kidnapped, so we moved your ship to the castle so that we can keep an eye on you for your safety.”

Rex couldn’t really be that mad, they did keep the promise of him sleeping in his ship, just not where it would be, “Alright fine, what do I have to do to make ya stop bugging me.”

“Oh, you just need to be present at today’s meeting, it’ll be fine.”

“Great, how many people are gonna be there?”

“The entire kingdom.”

“Of course.” Lucy walked up with a smirk on her face, “why is she here?”

“I’ll be helping you get ready for when the Frishins return, we’ve gotta do something in that five day time span.” great the one person he wanted to get away from, he was gonna be stuck with.

“Can I decline?”

“Not really as you don’t really know anything going on with the whole Special thing, luckily for you, I’ve had….some experience with The Special, the actual Special.” Lucy looked down as she held back some tears, Whatevra morphed her body to pick Rex up.

“Come on, everyone’s gonna love to meet you.” She takes him into the castle and drops him next to Benny, Batman, Unikitty, and Metal Beard, “You stay right there while I console my people.”

Rex gets up as Lucy walks in greeting her friends, he looks up at them, still mad at them for leaving him to rot in the Undar, Benny walks up to Rex, “Hi, I’m Benny, do you like spaceships.” he was a bit too close to Rex, pushing Benny back.

“Uh, yes, I actually have- well… had, my own spaceship.” Benny’s eyes light up before he gets a confused look on his face.

“Had?”

“Yeah, unfortunately some fish freaks blew it up, so I'll be ripping them a new one.”

Batman comes over and puts his arm around Rex’s shoulder, “Calm down Special, you’ll get to have your fun.”

“Special? Oh, so… does that mean?” Benny looked at Batman wondering if Rex being The Special means Emmett.

“He’s just pretending to be The Special, we still don’t know about him, but don’t tell anyone, got it.” Batman said with a glare, Benny gave two thumbs ups.

“Yeah, hopefully he’s still….out there.” Lucy said as Unikitty comforted her.

Whatevra got up to a podium and everyone in the castle went silent, it was a tall structure with people lining every wall upwards, kinda reminded Rex of when he was The Special, “Alright everyone, listen the invaders want The Special, and we have found him, he is here to protect our world from the Frishins, isn’t that right Special?”

She pointed at Rex, he walked up the podium “Hello, everyone, I am The Special, but you can call me Rex Dangervest. I am here to protect the Systar System from the Frishins, and I will not stop until you are all safe.” It kinda feels weird promising to protect people he’d let die, but he needed a new ship, and to get far away from Lucy.

“Mr Dangervest here, will be ready for when the Frishins return to our home, which we are eternally grateful for.” Whatevra makes her voice slightly quiet “Thank you Mr Dangervest, I hope whatever happens you can protect us, even if you’re not really The Special, you are our Special.”

“Yeah, don’t worry, can I go now?” Whatevra nods her body and Rex leaves the room and walks into the castle’s garden, Lucy follows behind him, “Can you not come?” he turned to look at Lucy, his eyes glare at her.

“Well, since you have no idea what you’re gonna get up to here, I’m gonna let you in on all the information I have.” Rex let out a disgruntled sigh, not really wanting to be near her, but if he’s gonna pretend to be someone new, might as well.

“Fine, tell me about The Special.” Lucy sat on a bench, “So, the guy we want you to be, he’s an old friend of mine, besides being The Special, he was pretty special to me.”Rex noticed that Lucy was crying a bit, “me and my other friends were taken from our home without him, and ever since then I’ve tried to find him wherever he could be, I’ve searched for five years, and I haven’t found him.”

Rex sat down next to her, he wanted to comfort her deep down, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it, it’s something Emmett would do, not him.

“Sounds incredibly important.”

“He was, I miss him everyday, and if I could see him again I’d apologize for the last thing I told him.” Rex had almost forgotten what Lucy said to him before she was taken, he still didn’t feel bad for what he did in the other timeline, his pain was just as bad as what Lucy felt.

“Well, maybe you’ll find him one day, maybe I can come across him when I leave, who knows.”

“Yeah, one day, wish I told him how important he was to me.” Lucy gets up and wipes her tears, “But, right now we gotta focus on making you a Special.”

Rex got up, “So, what’s the first thing to do, Wyldstyle, are we gonna train in fighting, or?”

“It probably would be good to do that, but, I think what we need is another Piece of Resistance.” She grabs his hand and takes him out of the garden.

“Hey! No touching! Also what are you talking about?”

“It’s what chose my friend to be The Special, maybe we can get another one to stop the Kragle the Frishins have, if we can get it, we can stop them, simple.”

“Where do we find it?”

“I actually don’t know, I don’t even know if there's one on this planet.” Rex doesn’t know if this is good or not, on one hand he wouldn’t be revealed as The Special and possibly have everyone find out he’s Emmett, on the other, the Frishins couldn’t be stopped.

“Alright, let’s start looking, it’s bound to be somewhere, even if not on this planet, I think we should split up to cover more ground.” Rex started walking out of the garden to search for the Piece of Resistance.

“Wait, where are you going?”

Rex stopped and turned, “No idea, I don’t even know what it looks like.” He walked out of the garden before Lucy could say anything, she sighed and decided to look for it somewhere, maybe maybe in a forest.

Rex walked until he saw a construction site, maybe looking there was a good idea, it was where he found it last time, he climbed over the fence, he looked at the bright colors and scoffed, at least he knew what everything did, he could probably start digging with something.

He started ripping apart the vehicles and quickly built a mech with two giant claws to dig through the ground.

Chapter Text

Lucy walked through the forest, using a scanner to search for the Piece with Unikitty, she was bouncing up and down, “So you think the Piece could be here?” Unikitty said while picking up a bug.

“Hopefully if not, then we’ll search somewhere else.” Lucy kept her eyes on the scanner, not looking up once as she spoke to Unikitty.

“.....you wanna talk about it?”

“Talk about what there’s nothing to talk about.”

Unikitty lowered the scanner from Lucy’s face, seeing her emotionless expression much clearer, “Uh huh, so, what happened?” Lucy’s eyes looked downward, it was clear she wanted to talk but it was something she was scared of.

“What if he’s actually gone, I mean it’s been five years, there’s been no trace of him at all, not even on other planets, I just can’t live with myself after what I said to him, I wish I could take it all back, if I saw Emmet one more time, I’d never stop loving him.”

Lucy started crying, “Hey, hey, it’s going to be ok, we’ll find him, I promise, maybe he’s somewhere on the Frishins planet, Wyldstyle, I’ll make sure we find Emmet one day, I promise.”

Lucy hugged Unikitty, “Thanks Unikitty.”

Rex was digging at the construction site, until he found a tunnel under the ground, he jumped out of his mech, pulled out a flashlight and started walking down it, “Ugh, even underground the bricks are too colorful.”

He kept walking all the way up to the end of the tunnel, there was no piece in sight, this frustrated the hell out of him, and he just punched the wall, it came crumbling down and he saw a familiar red glow from behind it.

“Finally!”

Rex ran up to the piece and touched it, nothing happened, he guessed he really wasn’t special anymore, not after what he’s done, but it would be a good idea to take it with him, he grabbed onto it with both hands and began to pull, it wouldn’t budge.

He pulled out a pickaxe and started breaking the rocks around it, they cracked, until he hit the rocks actually surrounding it, once he hit those the pickaxe bent, the man upstairs really doesn’t want him to be special.

He built a drill and started drilling into it, sparks flew off of it, he could feel the ground moving but the piece just wouldn’t budge, when he hit the piece itself, the drill immediately broke into pieces, Rex sat there in frustration.

Maybe punching it would fix this, he hit it once with all his pent up anger, and all he did was hurt his hand, he began pulling on it again, it has to budge, he had to get it out, special or not, that piece was coming with him.

Lucy and Unikitty kept searching for the piece, after Lucy got all that out, it felt good to let it all out, especially with the nicest person she knew besides Emmet, there was no one out there that was nicer than him to her.

The scanner started beeping loudly, Lucy pointed it in a random direction, seeing where the beeping was coming from, she pointed it at a hole, the closer she got, the louder the beep, she ran right up to it, looking into the hole she could make out a faint green glow.

“Unikitty! I think I found the piece!” as she waved over to her friend, the ground gave out and she fell into the hole, Unikitty ran up trying to grab her, but she didn’t make it in time, and Lucy fell all the way down to the ground.

She got up and saw it, a minty green glow coming from a piece, she knew what this was, she ran up to the piece and placed her hand on it, and at the same time, Rex was still trying to brute force his piece out.

Both pieces glowed in a bright light, enveloping them both, they could both see visions, including when Rex touched the piece for the first time, of the world of the man upstairs, and of what happened to Rex, only seeing him fall into the Undar.

Rex shot his eyes open, he was in a hospital? It was still pretty bright, he looked to the bed next to his, there sitting with another piece on her back, was Lucy, Rex looked confused and quickly turned to his back, seeing the piece there, there were two pieces?

Lucy looked over and gave him a soft smile, “Morning Rex.” Rex looked out the window, he found the piece at sunset, and it was already morning, man that vision took a long time,Rex looked back at Lucy, she seemed more happy.

“You ok?”

“Yeah, I just…I finally know where my friend is.”

Rex assumed she had had the same visions as he did, which means she knows what happened to him, and where she'll definitely be disappointed when she doesn’t find Emmet there, their friends walked into the room to see how they were.

“Wyldstyle! Are you ok? Did anything happen?”

She gleamed at them with a bright smile, “Yes! I finally know where Emmet is. Once I’m out of here, I’m going there to find him and bring him home.” Everyone
looked at her in shock, they gave her a big group hug as they all teared up.

They were going to look for him, but he won’t be there, since he’s already in the same room as them, maybe he could get them away from the Undar, convince them that he’d probably be dead by now.

“I- I saw it too….” Everyone turned to Rex, “I’ve seen that place before, it’s not a good idea to go there, it’s pretty dangerous.”

“.........I don’t care, I need to find him.”

Rex’s face turned sour, he didn’t want to lose her again, but what was he thinking? This is the same person who left him in the Undar for years, why is he caring about her again. He should think about that later, the more important question for him right now is.

“W- Why is there a piece on my back?”

Benny went over to him and started analyzing the piece, “Well…it seems you really are the special now, hehe.”

Rex looked over at Lucy, he could clearly see the piece on her back, but why was there two, why did she of all people also have it.

“Why does she have one?” Rex pointed at Lucy, the group turned to her, now noticing the piece, all confused as there was only supposed to be one special, why did Lucy also have one on her.

“How- Am I another Special?”

Rex was extremely confused, both him and Lucy were the special, at the same time, great. How could this have happened.

“I- I need to go, check up on my stuff.”

Rex got out of bed and started to run towards the door, only to be blocked by Metalbeard, “Matey, where do ye think yer going.”

“I- I just want to get back to my house, maybe even get a ship.”

“But we need you, I mean we both are actually the special. Specials? It doesn’t matter, all that matters is now we can actually protect our world.”

“This ain’t my damn world! I didn’t want this, I just wanted a new ship and to get off this stupid planet! I didn’t sign up for any of this, just to be an act and pretend to be special and save people on a dying planet!”

“Rex, please help us, it's clear that you’re here for something better, you actually are here to be Special!”

“Well what about the other special… that guy you talked about, if we’re both the Special, then where is he? What happened to him? Shouldn’t he be in my place?”

“We know where he is, we can find him!”

“NO, WE CAN’T!”

Lucy stared at him with confusion, “Why not, you’ve been there before, you can help us get him back.”

Rex looked down, and turned his back to Lucy, “Yeah, been there for five whole years, and never did I once see anyone there, so either he died there before I got there or he probably abandoned you guys for five years and just got stuck there.”

Lucy’s expression darkens, “Don’t you dare say anything about him, you don’t know him, so you don’t get to talk about him!”

Rex doesn’t say anything else and just leaves the room, Lucy turns back to her friends who all just comfort her, Batman leaves the room and follows Rex, leaving the hospital, Rex notices and starts sprinting away.

Batman chases after him, getting faster as Rex gets faster trying to keep up with him, “Get back here!” Rex stopped in his tracks and turned towards Batman, he stops in front of Rex before his collar gets grabbed by Rex.

“Why the hell won’t you leave me alone! Listen here pal, I don’t care about this planet, or anyone on it! I don’t care about anything here except me! So just leave me alone…”

“...how did you get into the Undar?”

“Crashed there, that’s all you need to know.”

“Where do you originally come from? What planet?”

“...why do you want to know?” Rex lets go of Batman’s collar, something feels off, does he know he’s Emmet or is there something else going through Batman’s mind.

“I- sigh I’ll drop you off at your original home, bring you back with whatever you want to bring back with you, as long as you help…ok?”

Rex just glared at him, he doesn’t know, good. He just slowly walks away and quietly mumbles, “It’s gone, why do you think I was in the Undar.”

Batman just lets him go, he’s got all he wanted so he just walks in the opposite direction from Rex, who leaves for his ship. Rex looked up and the sun started to set, how long was he out for? What time did he even find that stupid brick?

He does notice something in the sky, something that’s coming down to the planet and quickly, it’s a ship of the Frishins. It lands in front of Rex, opening up water pours out and a Frishin steps out.

“Are you the Special?”

“...yeah, and who the hell is asking.”

“If you and Rex are the specials, than what about-”

“I don’t know, we’re both the special, so maybe there can be multiple. Maybe Emmet was the first of something, I don’t know. But I know that he’s out there somewhere.”

Lucy starts pacing around the room, she’s stressed and worried, and scared of what might've happened, she doesn’t know how she’ll deal with it, but she can try to put a smile on for everyone.

Rex kicks open the door and throws the Frishin onto the table, “Delivery, this fish freak.” Lucy runs up to him.

“Rex! Where did you go?! Why is there a Frishin in my house? What’s going on?”

“...are you ok?”

“No, not in a long time. Now answer my questions.”

Rex walked over to the Frishin, who was in a lot of pain from being thrown onto a table, and held him up, “Tell them what you told me about the special.”

“OK, ok! There’s a prophecy on my planet, about two specials, until what happened on our world we thought it was just a myth.”

Everyone in the room looked at the Frishin, “What about us?”

“That there will be one who unites all worlds, and saves us, and one who will cause Armamageddon.” Lucy’s heart dropped, Rex threw him back onto the ground, “Please don’t kill me!”

“We’re not gonna kill you.”

“No, I’ll just kill everyone you love.”

Lucy snaps her neck and glares towards Rex, “Rex, we’re not killing anyone!”

“You’re not, if what he says is true, then I’m not just gonna kill who he loves, I’m going to kill everyone…”

Lucy walked up to him, “no, you’re not.”

“Well it’s sure as hell not going to be you who causes Armamageddon. How is this a surprise, I’ve told you I’m a bad guy, a villain.”

“Yeah, Superman and Lex Luthor are neighbors who get along just fine, why would another bad guy being here be a surprise. Rex, just because you think you’re the bad guy doesn’t mean you have to be, you don’t have to be the bad guy, Rex."

Those words cut through Rex, it was the last thing he heard in the other timeline. Lucy put her hand onto Rex’s chest, as he felt her, his heart started going crazy, Lucy looked up at him.

“Just calm down Rex, everything’s going to be fi-”

“No! Not everything is awesome!”

Lucy just backed away from Rex, “Fine, if you want to be the bad guy, then fine, leave. I have more important things to do, like getting back someone I care about.”

Rex knew where she was going, but he knew that once she got there she’d be disappointed, “Doubt he’d be happy to see you…” Rex mumbled it, not expecting her to hear it, she looks over her shoulder, she definitely heard.

“What, did, you, say!”

“I- I-... I didn’t-”

“You didn’t what? Huh? You didn’t think someone could care about people? Well people do.”

“That’s not- I-”

“Listen here pal, when he sees me, he’s going to be saved, and he’ll be so happy to see us, and I’ll be so happy to see him, and- and-” she started tearing up, tears dripping from her face, she was about ready to punch Rex, but held herself, trying not to start a fight.

“I’VE BEEN THERE FOR FIVE WHOLE YEARS! NEVER ONCE DID I SEE ANYONE END UP THERE, NO ONE CAME! And if he is there, then that means he just got there, and if you hadn’t seen him in a long time, then that just means he never wanted to see you.”

“YOU DON’T KNOW HIM! YOU’VE NEVER MET HIM!”

“WELL CLEARLY HE’S NOT THAT GREAT OF A PERSON! Can’t believe anyone would ever think this guy was special, let alone trust him to save the world from Lord Business!” Rex immediately slapped his hand over his mouth, he looked horrified, he looked down at Lucy, saying she was enraged would be an understatement, she looked like she was ready to rip out his heart.

“How, do you know that?”

Rex took a step back, Lucy grabbed his collar, and brought his face down to hers, the fury in her eyes was strong enough to probably scare a god.

“Tell me what you did to Emmet.”

“I- I didn’t do anything to him! I swear!”

“If you don’t tell me, we could get Wonder Woman to use her lasso.”

Rex was even more terrified of that, “I- I…I never met the guy.” Lucy grabbed Rex’s hand and started to squeeze, Rex felt pain that he’d never experienced before, like his hand was stuck in between two trains going eight hundred miles an hour crashing into each other.

“TELL ME!”

“Lu- Wyld-” Lucy started squeezing harder.

“YOU KNOW THAT’S MY NAME! WHERE IS HE!”

“WHY DO YOU CARE NOW!!!”

Lucy’s grip loosened, “What?”

“YOU LEFT ME TO ROT THERE FOR FIVE WHOLE YEARS, AND NOW YOU CARE!!!” Rex just blurted out what he was thinking, not really caring what it was, Lucy let go of his hand, he got up and looked her in the eyes, he couldn’t make heads or tails of her expression. Rage? Depression? Agony? Sorrow? Whatever it was, they just sat there staring at each other.

“EMMET!” Rex was shaken out of his daze, he looked over, he almost forgot that he and Lucy weren’t the only people there, he just looked at everyone, their faces filled with surprise and sadness.

He started to walk out, Lucy grabbed his wrist, “...leave me alone……please…” he tried to free his wrist but she just wouldn’t let go, “Lucy…please just let me go!”

“Why didn’t you tell us it was you!”

“BECAUSE I DIDN’T WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!” Rex tore his hand away, he looked at Lucy, her expression was more clear, heartbroken, he just turned around and ran out of the house, he didn’t look back. He just ran and ran, he thought to himself that he’d just go make a new ship and leave the planet, he didn’t want to see her again. Not after that.
