Work Text:

Prompt: Rotten
Crossover: Harry Potter and animated Justice League

Wally didn’t spend a lot of time in the magical corners of the world. He knew from talking to GL that magic as it was only happened on Earth, and he had a vague idea of its general effects, but it tended to behave in a way that no one could really explain from either side when it came into contact with the Speed Force. This meant that he could usually find their communities with only a little effort, simply by looking at where the Speed Force didn’t quite work as it should. He had questions, but Zatanna hadn’t been able to answer them so he settled for using that awareness to stay out of areas where physics didn’t work the way it should. It also meant he could usually avoid witches, wizards, and the like without trying.

The key word was usually. Right now he was waist deep in thick mud that reeked of rotting plants and trying to come up with a plan of escape that didn’t involve absolutely destroying the ecosystem of the wetlands he was currently in. There was a wizard roughly 100 meters away in a similar situation, but he seemed to have a plan judging from the wand in his hand and the determined look on his face. “You’re one of those American Superheroes, right?”

Given that they were in Mangrove Swamp at the tip of the African continent, the British accent was a little bit of a surprise. “The Flash, pleased to meet you!”

“Neville Longbottom. If I can levitate you out of the mud, can you get me out?”

“Not a problem, I’ll get you out right away!”

It wasn’t quite right away, since he had to find something sturdy enough to act as a platform that was also long enough to reach from the solid parts to where Mr. Longbottom was stuck. Soon enough, though, the two of them were back on solid ground and the wizard was busily cleaning off the mud on his clothing. Wally took the opportunity to vibrate enough to get the mud to crumble away and take in the wizard. “Why did it matter if I was one of the American heroes?”

“You lot are all cleared to know about magic. Everyone in that League thing, actually, is technically cleared but for everyone but the Americans its still strictly need-to-know, and most of Europe is still operating under the Statute of Secrecy. It does me little good to get out of this mess only to get charged with breaking the law back home.”

“That’s rough, buddy.” Wally stretched a little. He’d just been on a run for the sake of running, though he’d stopped any crimes he saw along the way, and now he wanted to get back home and take a shower.

“I’m heading back for a clean up and some tea. You’ll be all right?”

“Yeah, no problems.” Wally looked over at the wizard. “Usually magic doesn’t work well around me. Side effect of how I got my powers. I’m surprised that this actually worked. Can you answer some questions for me?”

Longbottom gave him a bit of a side eye at that and shrugged. “It’s above my pay grade, mate. I’ve got a mastery in Herbology, not magical theory. But I can pass on your information to someone who might be able to help.”

Wally shrugged. He would take what he could get.
