   “What?” I said as I stared up at him from the couch.

   “Come down to the grad lab and sign up for a trial,” he repeated over his cup of coffee. “We got one on sleep meds right now and it pays seventy-five big ones. Up front too.”

   “You’re joking.” I narrowed my eyes for good measure so he knew I was extra skeptical.

   “It’s not an overnight one either. Well, not one where you’d have to stay at the lab for it anyway,” he continued his pitch. “You just gotta take a pill before bed and answer some questions in the morning. It’s a two week trial.” He shrugged.

   I was sure I’d regret signing up for it, and fucking BOY HOWDY, did I ever!
