    Hua Cheng, BFA in Fine Arts, has a free period after Digital Illustration, and his best friend pesters him into crashing a lecture — “You can nap in the back or whatever.”

    Hua Cheng agrees, half-listening… until he sees Xie Lian walk in. Long hair tied in a loose low bun, white button-down and waistcoat, voice calm like silk over stone. He’s utterly beautiful. The kind of beautiful that makes Hua Cheng sit up straighter, blink once, and forget how to breathe.

    Xie Lian speaks with passion about western portraiture and idealisation. Hua Cheng stays behind afterward, sketchbook open. He doesn’t say anything — just stares. Xie Lian notices. Smiles faintly. “Are you… enrolled in this course?”

    “No.”

    “I see.”

    The next semester, Xie Lian finds his name on the roster.
