I own no rights to any of the fandoms that feature in this work.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Behold the altar, where a wretched boy shall be offered; inscribed by Chiron, progeny of Tamora; his desire steeped in vengeance as dark as the depths of the Underworld. This blasphemous gift is for his fallen kin; the target of this grim tribute—none other than Lucius the Younger, cursed to share the name of his damned father.

Young Lucius

Chapter 3: Alexander & Bucephalus

Summary:

Stubborn wily Bucephalus is met and tamed by prince Alexander.

Chapter Text

O brazen Ox-head, this courageous youth has seized your reins as if taming a wild beast, clamping a muzzle upon your wretched visage, forcing you to gallop like the fabled Pegasus 'round the temple of the gods, all for his own swell-headed glee.

Alexander & Bucephalus

Short poem based on the flashback in episode 1 "Santa Muerte."

Summary:

Martha shows her affection for Colin as he sleeps.

Colin Craven

Chapter 6: Brave Artax

Summary:

Atreyu commemorates his loyal companion and friend.

Chapter Text

This verse of lament penned by Atreyu for his loyal steed, consumed by the treacherous clutches of Fate's foul design. The accursed muck swallowed whole his magnificent form, leaving the lad to wallow in grief, tormented by the agony of loss.

Artax Death

Chapter 7: Lonesome Freedom

Summary:

The Black Stallion speaks of his freedom while being reluctant of the young boy who survived the shipwreck with him.

Chapter Text

No longer shall I flounder in these treacherous depths that sought to enshroud me, for now I raise my proud neck from the abyss; no more shall I grunt amidst the constricted confines of this wretched vessel, quaking at the sight of the pitiful, unsuspecting boy, my insignificant lord. Yet the vile, briny waves have cast me upon this forsaken shore, and here I stand upon this desolate strand, a solitary figure amongst the gods.

Alec & The Black Stallion

Chapter 10: Dearest Arturo

Summary:

"You have to remember him, me, all of this. This was our time to be children." - Arturo

Notes:

For those who don't know, I LOVE this movie and this part was by far one of the most emotionally gripping. It was on my mind today and I felt like commemorating it with this GIF.

Chapter Text

Upon this hallowed ground, where sleep his dearest brother, Angelo hath oft cried out in mournful tears, beseeching the spirit of brave Arturo to return, he who in life, with a fierce oath, vowed to shield his truest friend from the cruel hand of death.

Angelo Torancelli + Arturo

Chapter 11: The Son of Heaven Ensnared By Fate's Cruel Strings

Summary:

Ode to Emperor Xian of Han.

Notes:

I always felt sympathetic towards Liu Xie as with many other child monarchs throughout history, used as a puppet for others ambitions. He immediately came to mind when I wrote this epigram. Hope you enjoy it and be sure to leave feedback.

The 2010 TV series adaptation credits go to Zhu Sujin based on Luo Guanzhong's novel.

Chapter Text

I lament the plight of the pure Liu Xie, whose noble blood draws forth a multitude of serpents, ravenous to ensnare him, enticed by the whispers of his gullibility; yet alas! Fate, that treacherous whore, crushes their dreams, thrusting them into the abyss of despair.

Emperor Xian of Han

I shall not suffer this blasphemous war nor tolerate such treachery, for I have chosen Andraste as my fierce protector.

Young Milo

Chapter 13: Nakht, Weaver of Thebes

Summary:

In memory of Nakht, may he be free of pain in the next life.

Notes:

I first read about Nakht as a kid in the book "Secrets of the Mummies" by Shelley Tanaka. Though little is personally known of him, his life story (as told from his mummy) deeply moved me and I wanted to create a portrait in honor of his memory.

This is how I picture Nakht in the Field of Reeds (this was one of the few generated portraits that came as close to what I envisioned). While he was by birth a peasant, I like to imagine Nakht wearing a bit of gold. He truly had to have been beloved by his family as his coffin was a great expense for what people of his class could afford at the time. May he rest in peace.

Chapter Text

This afflicted youth, once known as Nakht, now lies cold and lifeless, his essence entwined with the sanctity of Neith, the Goddess herself!

Nakht, Weaver of Thebes

Chapter 14: Siempre Fuiste un Padre Para Mí

Summary:

Carlos final words to his dear friend and father-figure before leaving the orphanage.

Notes:

The ending of "The Devil's Backbone" never ceases to move me, especially given the fatherly bond between Carlos and Dr. Casares. I had this scene on my mind and wrote these few lines from Carlos POV, in a style his hero would've loved. If you're a fellow fan of the film, hope it strikes a chord with you.

Chapter Text

With trembling limbs and a heart burdened by sorrow, Carlos clutched his beloved father's neck, tears like molten silver cascading down his cheeks, exclaiming: "Father, I'm severed from your embrace; I'm departed, as the shadow of death shrouds my vision in its cursed shroud."

Carlos Mourns Dr. Casares

Chapter 15: Sacred Sacrifice

Summary:

If only Josh's feet had not touched the ground...

Notes:

I almost forgot about "DIG" but am glad I didn't. One of these days I'm going to have to re-watch it from the beginning as I never finished on its original airing. Bummer it got cancelled.

My heart broke so much over Josh's death in the pilot episode. This is a small tribute to him, hope you like it. Let me know what you think.

Series credits belongs to Gideon Raff and Tim Kring.

Chapter Text

Your sire, Josh, forsook the hallowed throne and solemn garb of the priesthood, bequeathing you to this wretched rocky tomb, a mere babe resembling your grace and celestial beauty. Even in your lifeless state, we find our tongues still seek your ear.

Josh

Chapter 16: Hannibal's Oath

Summary:

"I swear to the deathless gods that I will not rest until the heart of Rome bleeds dry on the sword of Carthage." - Hannibal Barca.

Notes:

Hannibal Barca according to the Roman historian Livy was 9-years-old when he swore to be Rome's lifelong enemy, an oath he would never betray.

This GIF/scene from the first episode inspired this poem I wrote based on the event. Hope you like it.

"Barbarians Rising" (c) History Channel.

Chapter Text

O Hannibal, thy valor dost breathe the fire of battle! Clad in the somber rags of grief for the honor stripped from thy progenitor Hamilcar, thou art a warrior reborn! Let the blood that stains thy form proclaim this fierce oath: thou shalt wage war for the glory of thy cherished fatherland, till the very end!

Hannibal's Oath

Chapter 17: Chiron's Tranquility

Summary:

All Chiron ever wanted was to be free.

Notes:

The ending scene of "Moonlight" humbles me every time I watch the film. It truly is a real and loving piece to all LGBTQ people, no less so than in the Black community.

Chiron was a definite choice as I wrote these lines.

Chapter Text

Behold this realm of Peace, where the gaze of the forsaken rejoices in the glimmering abyss! Here, amidst the rolling waves, he finds solace, his reflection shimmering like an ill-gotten treasure, as the sea quivers beneath his lofty presence.

Chiron on the Beach

Chapter 18: The Delectable Kiss of a Youthful Summer's Memory

Summary:

William reminisces about the innocent times he and Snow enjoyed as children before Ravenna seized power.

Notes:

The poem is from William's POV. GIF of one of my favorite scenes from the film between Young William (Xavier Atkins) and Snow (Raffey Cassidy). They just look so cute here.

Hope you like it, of course let me know what you think too.

The film and its characters are (c) Universal Pictures and all associated producers.

Chapter Text

Come hither, ensconced in the lush embrace of these verdant boughs, and indulge thyself in the nectar of ripe apples, that thy radiant smile, imbued with summer's fervor, might find solace in the wake of a most enchanting maiden.

Young William & Snow White

Chapter 19: The Shattered Scion of a Ruined Lineage

Summary:

Amleth's thoughts on witnessing his father's murder before escaping to the sea.

Notes:

The film's among my favorites by Robert Eggers and having it on my mind today, Amleth's anguish and oath in his youth inspired this entry. Hope you enjoy it.

Chapter Text

Here I stand, Odin, at the twisted path 'neath the frostbitten boughs, near the mournful shore, casting away forsaken souls, as the frigid waters leer with a grim menace, turning with the fury of tempestuous waves.

Emotional Young Amleth

Chapter 20: A Night Fury and his Rider

Summary:

Poem dedicated to Hiccup and Toothless friendship.

Notes:

Hiccup and Toothless were my top duo when I wrote this. Hope you like it, I really wanted to epitomize the deep earnest strength of their bond here. Let me know what you think.

All rights belong to author Cressida Cowell and Dreamworks Animation.

Chapter Text

Behold the Night Fury of our valiant Hiccup, how he gazes down with a fearless gleam, reveling in the glory that oftentimes among the cragged peaks, the Youth, tenderly stroking his regal visage, caressed those glorious scales within his gentle grasp.

Hiccup & Toothless

Chapter 21: Venture Further Dear James

Summary:

James enters the Giant Peach, unaware he's about to begin a life-changing adventure.

Notes:

Originally I did not have James in mind when I wrote this yet the moment I thought back to the story, this part fit with the lines. Both the book and film are childhood favorites of mine. Hope you like this, of course feedback's welcome.

The movie's screenplay belongs to Karey Kirkpatrick, Jonathan Roberts, and Steve Bloom with the novel by Roald Dahl.

Chapter Text

James, unleash thy puny limbs amidst the ripe peach; heed how the ambrosial aroma dances through the damp passage; and take a hearty swig from the succulent flesh; for this is a wondrous flight cherished by the forsaken in this cruel world.

James in the Giant Peach

Chapter 22: The Bronze African Youth

Summary:

On the Bronze statuette of a Black African youth displayed in the MET.

Notes:

I originally was going to write this based on Michelangelo's "David" but on seeing this Hellenistic piece of sculpture, I couldn't help but chose it as the subject for this epigram.

To all fellow art lovers reading this, hope you enjoy it. Be sure to leave feedback.

Chapter Text

"Ah, my precious child, why dost thou, forged from the forgotten depths of ancient bronze, utter this sweetly mournful lament?"

"To allow the observer to feast upon these venerable curves, emphasizing the opulent beauty of this prized gem."

Bronze statuette of a Black African Youth

Chapter 23: Peter

Summary:

Peter's too precious for Tinker Bell and the Lost Boys to lose.

Notes:

This is the final entry for this collection. Hope you've enjoyed all of the previously published poems. It seems only fitting to finish it focusing on Peter Pan. I'm a big fan of the "Neverland" mini-series and loved Charlie Rowe in the main role (by far one of the best to play the timeless character).

Comments and feedback are appreciated. Thanks for reading!

Mini-series credits belong to Nick Willing and J.M. Barrie who created Peter Pan.

Chapter Text

To the wide-eyed Tinker Bell and the rascally Boys of Neverland, the bold Peter bestowed this offering beneath yon tree, for when wearied by the merciless blaze of summer’s fury, they quenched his thirst, proffering to him nectarous water in their eager hands.
