Work Text:
As one might expect, creating a human is no easy task. And it became particularly tricky when Focalors fancied the idea of creating an ideal “human”. Not ideal in the sense of having no flaws at all, but rather refining the traits only humans possess. So they could feel happiness, pain and sorrow all the same, and they could sympathize with others as well. And thanks to that ability, they could sacrifice their pleasure for the sake of other people.
Focalors spent days carefully sculpting the body and carving the shapes of the face in her own image. Every curve modeled with care, to truly create the perfect one.
When the shell was finally complete, she breathed life into the figure. The before lifeless puppet took the first breath and slowly awoke, gently fluttering her eyelashes. In her eyes there was a look of bewilderment, the world a mystery to her.
Focalors decided to give the girl a name: Furina. Yes, it carried a graceful sound upon her lips…
At first, she taught Furina how to feel, to see, to think. Then how to walk and speak. She felt like a proud mother watching her child take their first steps.
However, the process of bringing into being doesn’t stop there; it’s only the beginning. To truly make her creation complete, she had to give her a purpose in this world – that purpose was to save the people of Fontaine. And most importantly, that purpose needed to be achieved at any cost.
But she couldn’t bring herself to announce this somber news and take away the innocence of this girl just yet. She wasn’t created to enjoy the pleasures of human life, but ripping it away felt like a punishment far too severe. So, to give her a last moment of childlike wonder and innocence, Focalors decided to show her one thing she held very dearly: dance.
She held her hands and started guiding her steps to a melody she sang. They started slowly – Focalors gave Furina time to get used to this pace. They twirled in a waltz, Furina at first unsure in her moves, but getting more carefree with time. After a while she got comfortable in this new experience, swaying from one side to another to the rhythm, a wide smile on her face.
She misstepped from time to time but she just laughed it off lightly. There was no need to pretend she didn’t make mistakes – she was just a human after all. And she just enjoyed the dance without a care in the world. The performance was perfect in its imperfections. She didn’t even notice when Focalors let go, and that now she twirled all by herself.
Focalors watched her with a smile, though she felt sadness deep within, knowing the cruel fate awaiting this girl.
