Chapter 1: New hire
Chapter Text
Icai nervously shifted in her seat as she sat in front of Aurther and Delilah, the founders of Gardenview. *Remain calm, if you do so then it is likely you can get this job,* she thought.
"So, why do you want this job?" he asked.
"It is because I feel like I would be able to do a very good job working with whatever toon you have assigned. I also loved to watch the show as a teenager and I want to contribute to some kid's childhood," she claimed.
"Alright. How good are you with children?" he inquired.
*Going to assume this is because I am going to have to deal with a lot of kids,* she guessed. "I do very well around kids, and I am certain I can help make sure whatever toon I am assigned to be the same," Icai stated.
"Okay, final question. How prepared are you to deal with any parents that come along?" Aurther questioned.
*Only three questions? I do not know if I can consider that a good or a bad sign,* she thought, getting slightly more worried. "I can also deal with parents very well and am certain that my toon will do the same later," she answered. Both founders turned to each other and nodded.
"Alright. We take some time to deliberate, if you could please wait outside until we call you back in to tell you our decision," he requested.
"Of course," she accepted as she walked over to the office door and opened it. She let out a sigh of relief as she sat down and started to fidget in that seat too. *Why were there so few questions? Do they normally only ask three questions or do they normally ask more? Were my answers adequate or were they looking for more?* Icai wondered. After a few minutes, Delilah opened the office door.
"Alright you can come back in," she allowed. She sat up and went inside to see Aurther giving her a warm smile.
"Congrats, you have been our best applicant for a while now and you have the job," he stated. She could feel her worry leave her as she smiled back.
"Thank you, sir. Now may I ask what toon I will be working with?" she checked.
"Of course, and we actually have something to tell you about that," he admitted.
"What is it?" she asked.
"To put it simply. You aren't going to be the handler to a toon that has appeared in the show, yet," he claimed.
*Huh? They are making a new toon, and I am the handler of them? That's, kind of worrying, given I don't know that they'll be like,* Icai thought. That is when Delilah pulled out a paper and Arthur laid it out allowing her to fully see the toon. They were a black moth with red eyes, red claws on their hands and feet, and four red wings set up into two sets. They were wearing dark red overalls and had a small smile on their face. *Their kinda cute,* she thought, smiling a bit as she read the name. "'Hover?' What are they like?" she inquired.
"Hover is going to be a main character introduced in the latest season of the show. We are making her because we've been having a problem of parents arriving late to pick up their kids for a variety of reasons and we need to have a toon to keep the kids busy until they arrive. She is going to be a bit nervous and will have a bit of a harder time talking to adults, but she will be really good around kids," he explained.
*Hover huh? I hope I can take care of her well,* Icai thought. "Do you have anything planned for her besides that at this point or no?" she checked.
"Not quite yet. Why? Do you have any ideas?" Aurther asked.
"Yes, I think I have some," she confirmed as she looked down at the toon as she said her first one right then and there.
"How about her last name be Moongazer?"
Chapter 2: Insant nervousness
Notes:
Istg if you don't like Hover by the end of this story I will come find you/j. Also I now have a different opinion of how Aurther acts, so expect him to act a bit differently whenever he is here compared to the one other fic I had him appear in.
Chapter Text
Hover woke up and was immediately alert to all around her. *W-where am I? This isn't my house! Where is everyone?!* she thought rapidly as she looked at the walls around her. That is when two people walked in while talking about something.
"-So yeah everyone should now remember everything that happened in the future episodes should already be inside every toon's memory," a girl in a white suit with some rainbows and block splotches on it claimed.
"Good, don't want her to be too out of her depth," a guy in a similar outfit but without the splotches replied. Immediately she backed herself away from them as they noticed her.
"Oh, so she has woken up then," she noted.
"W-where am I?! W-who are you!?" she demanded, feeling her heartbeat rise quickly.
"Woah woah, calm down. It's okay, we are not going to hurt you," he reassured.
*I-is he telling the truth, or is he lying? I-I can't tell, but maybe it might be best to listen to them for now?* Hover realized as her breathing started to calm down.
"Good, you're calming down M dash zero zero six. My name is Delilah, and this is my work partner Aurther. I have used ichor to bring you to life," she claimed.
"B-but I was already alive?" she blurted out. Immediately something that seemed a bit like guilt appeared on the face of who was said to be Aurther as he started to quickly pull something out of his backpack.
"Here, this may explain it," he claimed as he handed her a piece of paper. She cautiously took it from his hand and started to read it.
*W-what is this?!* she thought as the more she went down, the more and more it was just her first day headed into the town that she had started to live in recently as her heartbeat started to increase again.
"You see, you are a toon we created for two reasons, and one of those reasons was to add you into the show we are making to appeal to children and help them learn," Delilah explained.
"D-does this mean everything I've known is fake? That everything I have experienced and been through was never real?" Hover blurted out.
"Yes and no. Yes in the fact that none of it happened in this world, but no in the fact that still everything you have experienced has altered you as a person, and just because you are in this world now doesn't mean it didn't matter," Aurther reassured. He gave his work partner a look, but she didn't pay too much attention as she thought over what he said.
*None of that happened, but it did? I just hope that whatever is going on can be explained to me better,* she thought. That is when a third person walked into the room.
"Ah, Icai welcome. Hover, this is your toon handler Icai, she is here to help you get situated into this new world and into your role here at Gardenview," he explained.
"Gardenview?" Hover blurted out.
"Yes, that is the name of the building you are in. This building is an educational center and museum meant to help kids learn with help from the toons from the show," Aurther explained.
*That doesn't sound too bad,* she thought, her heartbeat returning to normal levels. "What's my job here?" she asked. This time, her handler Icai stepped up to her.
"Your job here is to look after any kids whose parents are late to pick them up from here for whatever their reason is," she stated.
*Oh that sounds nice! I like that idea,* she thought as she gave them a warm smile.
"You may have heard that we were talking about the other toons while we were coming in here. To explain that, not every toon was created for the show before this place and the other toons were made, therefore we've had to add the memories of episodes into them as they are scripted, so we just had to update everyone's memories to include you," Delilah explained.
*I guess that makes sense,* Hover noted. That is when she thought of something and got a little bit nervous.
*I wonder how everyone will react to me being here.*
Chapter 3: Place to rest
Notes:
Well, time for a totally inconspicuous plot point that totally won't end up having any consequences later on to be brought up.
Chapter Text
Hover followed behind Icai cautiously. *I still don't trust everyone here, but for some reason I feel a spiritual connection to her,* she noted as they walked into the room and inside there was Dandy, Astro, Sprout, Vee, and Shelly!
"Oh, Hover, there you are! We were waiting for you!" the flower exclaimed.
"Hey Dandy, nice to see you too," she replied as she looked around the room. On the walls, she noticed some posters for what she assumed to be episodes of the show she apparently came from. What immediately caught her attention was the name of it. *Dandy's World? So Dandy is the lead of the show huh? That kind of makes sense,* she thought.
"I am glad to see you here," the moon stated with a smile.
"You too Astro. Mostly because I might need some good dreams later," Hover admitted.
"Alright, I'll see what I can do," he accepted.
"Honestly glad I get one more person that can help me and Cosmo reach the stuff on the top shelves," Sprout noted.
*Oh, it seems like he is still baking! I am excited to see what he makes here, as long as he doesn't burn anything down, again,* she thought.
"Good to see you here, even if we haven't talked too much," Vee added.
*We really haven't huh? Guess that's going to change eventually,* she realized.
"I am so glad you're here! Maybe you'd like to listen to facts about some moth species while you're here!" Shelly offered.
"Thank you, Shelly, I'll think about it," Hover replied, which caused the smile on the shell's face to grow. *W-wait, if everyone's here that means that HE must be here too. O-oh no,* she thought as she felt a chill run up her spine. That is when a bell rang and the toons quickly ran off, likely to do something she didn't know about yet.
"Well, now that that's settled, I have something to tell you," Icai admitted.
"Oh? What is it?" she asked.
"I hate to say it, but it seems as if your toon room wasn't finished by the time you awoke, so you are going to likely have to sleep in the rooms of one of the other toons until it is," she explained.
*O-oh, that's not the best. Oh wait! Maybe Flutter is here and I can ask about sleeping in there!* Hover realized. "It's okay, I think I have someone in mind. Also what was the deal with the bell?" she inquired.
"That was the dinner bell, you did wake up pretty late," she stated.
"Oh, okay," she responded as she started to walk towards where the other toons went. As she, and her handler walked behind her, she couldn't help but wonder something.
*I wonder what everyone's roles in the show are?*
Chapter 4: Butterfly and moth
Notes:
I hope that I can explore a lot more of Hover's dynamics faster in this story than I will in her facts fic. Also sorry, but I am going to keep the characters being categorized with C, U, R, M, and L instead of it being BC M L because I find it more interesting that way.
Chapter Text
Hover slowed down to match Icai in speed. *For some reason I feel more comfortable around her than either Aurther or Delilah,* she noted as she got an idea. "May I ask you a question?" she checked.
"Sure, what is it?" she inquired.
"Do you have a way to show me what each character's roles are in the show?" she asked. They then entered an elevator and the handler pushed a button.
"Oh, right. I was handed this paper about just that, hold on," she admitted before quickly pulling out a neatly folded paper from her pocket and handing it to her. Careful not to accidentally tear it with her claws she started to read it over when she noticed something immediately.
*Interesting, it says the classification system is based on how often they are to appear alongside a main as the star of an episode, so let me pick out some examples,* Hover thought. She took note that Shrimpo was common, which made sense because of him likely being meant to bully the other toons. Finn was uncommon, which is likely because he wouldn't be able to appear alongside Vee for an episode. Flutter was rare, which she understood as she was pretty shy so she would need to appear less in the spotlight. Then most of the toons she had just seen and Pebble were considered the main characters, which she noted as meaning they had to star in every episode with another toon with one exception. Finally, there was Dandy, who had his own tier as the lead, and he had to appear in every episode and could meant that no main had to have a starring role.
"Can I see the paper again? I forgot what was on most of it," Icai requested.
"Right, sorry," Hover apologized as she handed it over. Her handler lightly took it from her hand, folded it back up, and put it back in her pocket just as the elevator came to a stop and they walked out onto a pretty big floor with a few tables around and many toons sitting down and chatting with each other. *Where is she?* she wondered as she scanned the tables. It didn't take long to notice Flutter sitting by herself at a table, and she quickly walked over to her. When the butterfly noticed, she seemed to get happy as she say down.
"..! (It's nice to see you here!)" she stated.
"Nice to see you too. You have anything go missing from your room?" she checked.
"..? (No, why?)" she questioned.
"Just making sure," Hover claimed. *Seems like Gigi hasn't tried to steal anything yet, good,* she thought as she looked at the other toons at the tables before she noticed one toon she hadn't seen before. "Who's that?" she asked as she pointed to the clock toon.
"... (Dlye, nobody knows much about him,)" she explained.
"Really? That's weird, has he appeared in the show at all?" she inquired. That is when Flutter told her something that took her way off guard.
"... (No, he isn't even shown to the children who arrive.)"
Chapter 5: Temporary residence
Notes:
Ugh, why are there random spaces between some words in the summary when there aren't supposed to be any? It is annoying, but I can look past it. Also you may want to look at one of my older fics for a new chapter today.
Chapter Text
Hover was confused. "Why isn't he shown to them?" she asked.
"... (I don't know, but I know he operates the trains in and out of here)," Flutter answered.
"Oh? Kids get here by train?" she checked.
"..! (Yep!)" she confirmed.
*Interesting. Wait, maybe Dyle just hasn't been introduced yet and will be added next season? That could explain it,* she reasoned, even if she knew deep down that if that was the case he would have already been introduced. That is when she felt a chill go up her spine before a hand tapped her on the shoulder. She turned around only to be met by something she hated.
"BOO!" Connie shouted.
"AAAAAH!" Hover screamed as she jumped back a bit.
"Bahahaha! You should've seen the look on your face!" she laughed.
"..? (Really Connie?)" Flutter replied.
"Come on, it is funny!" she insisted.
"C-could you please not do that here?" she requested.
"Hmmmmm, I'll think about it. For now, though I'll see you later," she claimed before floating off.
"C-could you please help find a way to stop her from doing that?" she checked.
"... (I'll see what I can do)," she accepted.
"Thank you. Oh yeah, also could you show me to your room? My room isn't finished yet, so I would like to sleep in there if you don't mind," Hover explained.
"..! (Sure, anything for a friend!)" Flutter allowed.
"Thank you," she thanked her as her friend flew out of the seat and she followed. "Ummmmm, if you don't mind me asking, how's your brother doing?" she checked.
"... (He's, fine)," she claimed, seeming a bit dejected.
*Okay, seems like a sensitive topic, I won't dig deeper,* she thought as they arrived at the elevator and the butterfly motioned to a button that the moth pressed as it started to go up. They chatted on the way up until the elevator stopped and the doors opened. They stepped out and started to walk down the hall until they stumbled upon a door that had her classification on it. Hover opened the door after being motioned to the keys and unlocked it before pushing it open as Flutter flew a bit above her to go in. The room was mostly pink and purple, likely to match the toon, and had some stuff that butterflies liked here and there.
"... (I hope you can enjoy your time in here)," she stated.
"I am sure I can, don't worry," she replied as she immediately looked for a place where she could sleep. She saw that there was a closet and, seeing as there was no place better, decided that she could sleep in there. She walked over to it and opened it before getting inside. *Doesn't seem too bad,* she thought as she closed her eyes.
She didn't realize she was tired enough to fall asleep on the spot.
Chapter 6: First day nerves
Notes:
Alright, so time to get into showing the most important part of Hover's backstory besides one thing that will happen about half-way through.
Chapter Text
Hover woke up in the closet a bit confused. *Where am-oh right, it is going to take a while to get used to this,* she thought. She opened the door to the closet to see that Flutter was already gone. *Must have overslept,* she realized as she stepped out, closed the door, and walked into the hall. She then turned and walked down to where the elevator was and used that to go to the dining hall where she saw all the toons sitting down with what seemed to be children. *Oh, the children have arrived! I, uhhh, probably should wait until I need to take care of one, I don't want to be asked who I am yet,* she thought as she went and picked up her food.
"Oh, hey Hover, how's it going?" Cosmo asked from behind the counter.
"It's fine. I am still getting used to being here," she admitted.
"Yeah, I had some trouble adjusting too, so good luck," he wished.
"Thank you," Hover replied before walking off to find a nice place to sit. She saw a table with only Vee on it and assumed it was because she didn't need to eat. She quickly drank her drink and threw it away before walking over and sitting down with her.
"Oh, hey Hover. Not interested in talking with any of the kids?" she checked.
"Not right now. I don't think any of the kids will recognize me yet, so I am going to try to keep my distance," she confirmed.
"Alright," she accepted before turning away. She could feel there was something a bit off in the air.
*Should I say something? Maybe not, I doubt that it would be easy to talk about whatever it is,* she decided as she started to eat. Hover enjoyed eating quietly, and when she was finished she got up and put her plate where it could be taken before walking off to go find someone to talk to. That is when Icai walked up to her.
"Hover, are you doing okay?" she checked.
"Oh, yeah I'm fine. I am just taking a look around to know where more stuff is," she claimed.
"Good idea, you need to learn the layout of the building so that you know the best places to keep the kids occupied," she stated.
"Yep. Hey, can you come with? I know you are my handler and it would probably make your job easier if you came with me," she suggested.
"Of course I can," she replied. The moth smiled before walking to the elevator and pressing a random button to go to a random floor. They started to explore random floors for a while, commenting about what was on them until an announcement came overhead.
"M dash zero zero six please come to the main lobby soon," Delilah requested.
"O-oh, I uhhh, guess we should head there?" Hover stated.
"Let's go," Icai ordered before starting to talk towards the elevator with the new main following. They soon went to the lobby and there was a small child just sitting there on a bench.
*I-I got this!* she thought before starting to walk up to them. Immediately the child looked at her and seemed to shrink into the chair which immediately shattered her heart as she stopped. "H-hey, it's okay, I'm not gonna hurt ya," she reassured. The child seemed a bit skeptical. *Ugh, it has to be my claws,* she realized, but kept calm. "Do you know where your mama and papa are?" she checked.
"T-they're at work," the child claimed.
"Alright, when are they supposed to get off work?" Hover inquired.
"S-soon," they insisted.
"Alright, I am friends with Dandy, so I know some fun games that we can play together, is that okay?" she checked. Immediately their eyes lit up with excitement as they got up from the bench.
"Yeah! Yeah! I wanna play games!" they exclaimed. She smiled in response.
"Alright, first let's play some tag! You're going to be it at the start so try and catch me!" she stated before starting to run away from them. They gave chase as they began to run around the lobby as the child was getting all giggly. She smiled at this, enjoying putting a smile on the child's face as a thought entered her mind.
*Maybe this place isn't so bad.*
Chapter 7: Avoid him now!
Notes:
So I should warn y'all that this fic is going to be put on hiatus while I do the Halloween and Shelly arcs of Cult of the Craft. It will start 5 days after the Halloween update.
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Hover waved the kid bye as his mom had arrived to take him home. *Seems like a nice family, I just hope that they have someone to take care of the kid at home while they are at work,* she thought as she turned to see Aurther smiling behind her.
"Good job Hover, you managed to almost do perfectly there," he complimented.
"Almost perfectly?" she blurted out.
"You did stutter a bit towards the parent when they arrived, but that's fine in the end," he claimed.
*Oh, right, I did do that,* she thought before turning her attention to the elevator. "I-I'll be going now if you don't mind me," she stated as she walked past him and started towards the elevator, until she noticed a certain toon inside.
"I HATE THAT I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO SEE THE KID!" Shrimpo shouted. Immediately Hover went and looked around before managing to find a staircase and ran to get into it. "YOU! MOTH GIRL!" he shouted after her but she had already entered it and started to run up the stairs. She could also hear him enter the staircase and start to run after her.
*NOPE NOPE NOPE! NOT DEALING WITH HIM!* she thought as she kept going up.
"I, HATE, THAT, YOU, ARE, STILL, GOING!" he screamed as he seemed to be running out of breath. She managed to reach the floor she hoped was the one Flutter lived on and shoved open the door to find it was the correct one before running until she reached her door and started to bang on it.
"PLEAEE DON'T LEAVE ME OUT HERE! SHRIMPO IS ON HIS WAY!" Hover begged. It did not take long for the door to be opened and for her to quickly rush in and slam the door shut behind her as she took a moment to start catching her breath. "Thank you, Flutter," she thanked. That is when the voice of a toon she was not expecting, but wasn't unwelcome to hear given the situation.
"Sorry, but you actually knocked on MY door."
Notes:
Ngl, now Idc if you give a toon less than 15 stars anymore. I now only care if you try to go over 6 or below 1 in a stat.
Chapter 8: Startling words
Notes:
Honestly I am really glad I can explore a LOT more of Hover's dynamics with this rather than just her dialog, makes things MUCH easier to try and get her personality out there.
Chapter Text
Hover looked to Yatta with a bit of surprise. *O-oh, I knocked on the wrong room. Whatever, as long as I get to avoid Shrimpo it doesn't matter,* she thought. "Sorry about pushing this on you, but could you please tell Shrimpo you don't know where I am if he asks?" she requested.
"Of course I CAN! You are one of Blot's FRIENDS which means you are my FRIEND too!" she exclaimed, but every time she made one word louder than the others it startled the moth a bit.
*Right, got to remember how energetic she is,* she remembered as she brushed it off. "Thank you, oh, and-" she started before there was banging on the door and immediately she hid under the table that she had seen in the room. *He's here!* she thought as she started to vibrate a bit as the piñata opened the door.
"Oh, hello Shrimpo," Yatta noted.
"SHUT IT YATTA! WHERE IS THE MOTH GIRL! I KNOW THAT SHE HAS TO BE IN ONE OF THESE ROOMS!" he shouted back. There was a moment of silence as Hover could feel her fear rising by the second. "ARE YOU GOING TO TELL ME!?" he demanded.
"I THOUGHT you said for me to SHUT it," she replied.
*Oh, hey that was pretty good, I bet Looey is helping her make better jokes,* she guessed.
"UGH, WHATEVER!" he shouted back before slamming the door shut and storming off.
"You can come OUT now!" she stated as the new main got out from under the table.
"Once again, thank you for this," she told Yatta.
"Once again, you are one of Blot's FRIENDS, so you are my FRIEND too, so don't worry about it!" she claimed.
*I guess that is the case, even if I need to learn how to deal with her energy a bit more,* Hover realized as she smiled. There was then some light knocking on the door, but she decided to remain out of sight for the moment in case he was trying a different approach this time as the room owner opened the door.
"Hey, Yatta, you seen Hover? I heard she was on this floor," Icai asked. Immediately she calmed down and walked over to the door.
"H-hey, sorry for running off, I was trying to avoid Shrimpo," she explained.
"Ah, alright, well Flutter was wondering where you were because Gigi was too busy hanging out with Connie to help write in her diary and she wanted you to do it," she explained.
"Oh, of course I can help, just give me a moment to get over there," Hover replied. She walked out of the room and started towards the butterfly's room as one thought appeared in her mind.
*I don't know how Flutter can be friends with Connie, let alone Gigi.*
Chapter 9: Written in diary
Notes:
More slice of life for this fic honestly, but I do have some specific plans for something to happen half way through that makes things much, much more interesting.
Chapter Text
Hover arrived back in Flutter's room and walked over to where she was. "Hey, you want me to write in your diary right?" she checked.
"!!! (Yes, please do that!)," she replied.
*Wow, I guess she is kind of desperate for it to be written in,* she realized, but shook it off. She saw the diary on the table, so she went over to the table and sat down while grabbing a nearby pencil. "What page are you on now?" she asked.
"... (Page five, but this is my fifth one)," she stated.
"Got it," she accepted as she quickly flipped to that page. She then took a glance at her friend to have her start telling her what to write.
"... (Dear diary, yesterday I had to go into memory argumentation again so that I could remember my friend Hover, who is currently writing in you now as Gigi was busy. We met again back at lunch and enjoyed it together until Connie came to do a little scare)," Flutter started as Hover got writing.
*Little scare? I guess she does that a lot to other toons, so I should get used to it,* she realized.
"... (Then we went to my room because Hover's isn't complete yet and she needs a place to stay, and that place to stay is going to be my closet)," she finished as she then finished writing.
"Is that all you want to write?" she checked.
"..! (Yep, I just needed to have yesterday written in!)," she exclaimed.
"Ah, okay," she replied. *I could ask to read some of her diary to know more of what has happened here, but I feel like that would be going too far,* she thought. "Do you need me to write the entry for today or will Gigi be available then?" Hover inquired.
"... (She should be)," Flutter stated.
"Okay, got it," she accepted as she closed it then. *I don't get why she trusts Gigi not to try and steal anything. They may be close friends, but I don't trust Gigi as far as she would let me throw her, which is at all!* she thought before shaking that thought from her mind. That is when another thought entered her mind, one she would have to ask about.
*Do I get to see outside this building?*
Chapter 10: The outside question
Notes:
Final chapter I am doing because I want to do at least 1 run today. I am sorry I couldn't get out 48 chapters in one day, but I will TRY to do 6 chapters per day for 11 days to finally catch up.
Chapter Text
Hover started to walk around in search of Aurther and Delilah. *I hope I get to see the outside! I wonder how this world may look different than ours did?* she thought. She soon ran into Rodger while doing so. "Oh, hey Rodger, how's it going?" she asked.
"Ah, greetings Hover. Things are going fine right now, no need to worry," he replied.
"Alright, just remember you can come talk to me if you need a babysitter for Toodles," she stated.
"Of course, and I am certain she would be happy to have you look after her again," he claimed before they walked past each other.
*I wonder how Toodles is doing here? I am certain she enjoys playing with all the kids that come over,* she thought. *Is she eating well? Is Rodger taking good care of her? No, he always will,* Hover shook the worst thoughts away. She kept looking around until she ran into Dyle.
"Oh, you must be Hover. Greetings, I am Dyle," he introduced as he stretched out a hand.
"I-it's nice to meet you," she replied before shaking his hand.
"I assume you don't know too much about me, so do you have any questions you'd like to ask?" he checked.
"O-oh, I was wondering a few things actually. First thing is what you do here?" she inquired.
"I am in charge of managing the trains in and out of Gardenview, making sure the kids and supplies arrive safely. I rather enjoy doing so, mostly because I love working on the trains," he explained.
*Okay, so he likes trains? That's nice to know,* Hover thought. "H-how well do you know the other toons?" she asked.
"Not too well honestly, I mostly know a lot about Dandy, and I enjoy listening to Finn talk about fish a lot, mostly because he lets me do the same about trains," Dyle answered.
*Dandy? I wouldn't have expected that,* she thought before she asked her last question. "Do you happen to know if we get to see the outside at all?" she questioned. That is when he answered, and gave an answer that might as well have sucked the soul out of her right then and there.
"I am sorry, but no toons are allowed to leave the premises of Gardenview."
Chapter 11: Moth in a cage
Notes:
Honestly might not be doing the best job showing how Hover is supposed to be in this fic, but that will likely just end up with her having a unique personality so who cares lol.
Chapter Text
Hover felt her heart start to beat faster hearing that. "W-what?" she blurted out.
"Toons are not allowed outside the premises of Gardenview? Is that hard to understand?" Dyle asked.
"N-no, I understand it, b-but it can't be true," she replied.
"Sorry, but it is. Aurther and Delilah don't want anything happening to the toons on the outside, so no toons are allowed outside of Gardenview," he claimed.
*N-no, that would mean I am trapped here! I don't want to spend the rest of my life here! Wait, if I am meant to represent myself from the show, would I even age at all?!* she realized as her heart started to beat even faster as she held a hand to her chest.
"Are you okay? You seem to be holding onto your chest there," he checked.
"I-I'm fine, I just gotta go now," Hover claimed before running off as Dyle watched.
*I have to talk to someone else about this! Anyone I knew from the show!* she thought as she ran around, looking for someone. That is when she saw Blot and decided to walk up to him. "H-hey Blot, do you have a moment to talk?" she checked.
"?gnorw s'tahw ,tnemom a evah I heaY .revoH yeh ,hO" he inquired.
*Oh, he isn't miming what he says? A bit weird, and he does talk a bit weird too, but I can still understand him well enough,* she thought, before shaking that off. "I'd, ummmm, like to talk to you about us being, stuck inside of here," she stated.
",od lla ew tahw s'ti ,noitautis eht fo etipsed ereh od nac uoy tahw fo tsom eht ekam dna yrt ot evah ll'uoy ,lleW .htiw laed ot dah sah noot yreve taht gnihtemos s'taht ,evael ot ytilibani ehT .tghir ,hO" he explained.
*Make the most of what we have here? That sounds like good advice honestly,* Hover thought. "Thanks Blot, I'll think about that," she replied.
",melborp oN" Blot claimed. She walked away with a much clearer mind after that, and even had formed a new idea inside her mind that she was going to follow as much as she could.
*I am going to make sure that every child that I look after is as safe as can be!*
Chapter 12: Making a call
Notes:
I would like to remind everyone that in two days (for me as of this chapter being posted) this fic is going to go on a hiatus until Cult of the Craft has Shelly defeated.
Chapter Text
Hover pressed the elevator to go down to the lobby as she heard that a kid was waiting for their parents as Icai was in the elevator with her. "So, how have you been adapting to staying here this past week?" she asked.
"Pretty well. I heard that making the room might take a few more days because they want to make it special since I am a main, but Flutter's closet is still okay to sleep in," she claimed.
"That's good to hear. I hope it can be finished soon so that you can have your own bed to sleep on though," she admitted.
"Me too," she agreed as the elevator came to a stop. She walked out and towards where she saw the kid who seemed to be in a long-sleeved shirt and shorts, only to see the kid's face light up when seeing her.
"Oh, oh! You're the new character! The one from the tribe! You're actually here!" they exclaimed as they hopped off the bench and rushed over.
"I am, and I am going to be the one to look after you until your parents get here. Can I know your name?" Hover requested.
"My name's Kevin! You're Hover right?" he tried to remember.
"That's correct, good job!" she complimented as his smile only seemed to grow wider. However, something was bothering her. *Why do I have such a bad feeling? He seems nice,* she thought, but held that thought as she got an idea. "Hey, how'd you like to play some games with me?" she offered.
"I'd love to!" he exclaimed.
"Well, what'd you like to play?" she inquired.
"Oh! Oh! Hopscotch would be fun to play!" he claimed.
"Alright, we'll play that then!" Hover accepted. He quickly started to run towards the front entrance before grabbing some chalk. Kevin then made a hopscotch area and quickly went and did it. She smiled watching him do it, and when he finished he looked at her, expecting her to do the same. She followed what he did, but that bad feeling was still there when she noticed there was something just under his long-sleeved shirt. "H-hey Kevin, can I see your arm real quick?" she requested.
"O-oh no, sorry. Daddy says to never let people look at my arms or else I'll be in trouble," he denied. Immediately that bad feeling became an overwhelming anger, one she hadn't felt before.
*Remain calm, getting angry won't do any good right now, I can deal with this soon,* she thought taking a deep breath. "Ah, sorry, I didn't mean to ask something that your daddy doesn't want you doing, but can you tell me where you live?" she requested.
"Ummmm, I think it was nine nine nine nine Cakeroll Drive," Kevin replied.
"Thank you, oh, and would you like to play a different game or keep playing hopscotch?" Hover checked.
"Oh! Oh! I could draw you something!" he claimed.
"Oh, that sounds nice! Want me to go grab the materials for it?" she inquired.
"YES!" he shouted, before covering his mouth quickly. "S-sorry, didn't mean to yell," he apologized. She could feel her rage return for a moment, but kept her cool.
"It's fine, I'll go grab the paper and pencils," she stated before walking away for a moment. She quickly returned with them and handed them over as she led him to a table to draw on. He sat down and immediately got to drawing on the paper, working hard to draw the best image he could. It took a while, but he managed to finish it and showed it to her. It was Hover holding his hand with writing on top of it.
"'Thank you for playing with me Hover!'" Kevin read out loud. She gently took it from him, careful not to rip it by accident as she looked at it. She almost started to cry, but didn't let herself do so in front of him.
"It's amazing Kevin! You are a really good artist!" she complimented which seemed to make him smile even more.
"Thank you! You're such a good friend!" he exclaimed.
*Friend huh? I like the sound of that,* she thought. Just then someone walked through the door, and immediately his smile shrank so she knew who it was.
"H-hey Dad," he muttered as Hover resisted the urge to turn around and tell the person off.
"Kevin, it is time to go home," Kevin's dad stated. He got up and walked over with him as the older man turned to her. "You are?" he asked.
"I am Hover, and when parents have some place important to be, I look after the kids until they arrive to pick them up," she explained.
"Okay, let's go, Kevin," he ordered.
"Y-yes Dad," he replied before walking away. She got up from the table and walked to where the phone was at the front desk and picked it up. She remembered the address he gave and looked at a phone book to find the number she was looking for. She dialed it and got a big grin when the person on the other side answered.
"Hello this is Child Protective Services, are you here to report something?"
Chapter 13: Special mention
Notes:
Welp, this is the last chapter before this fic goes on hiatus for now. I hope you enjoyed this so far as I will be coming back to this after the Shelly arc of Cult of the Craft!
Chapter Text
Hover sat in one of the toon common areas watching TV with Scraps. *I hope it is big enough news to come up,* she thought.
"Hey Hover, I never got to ask you in the show, but what is the religious belief of your tribe?" she asked.
"Oh? Uhhhh, why do you want to know?" she inquired.
"Mostly because most of the toons here don't know anything about your tribe, besides Dandy and Dyle because they get all of the toons' files when they are made," she stated.
*Ah, well if they are that important I guess it makes sense they should know everything,* she thought. "Well, one thing is that my tribe believes that whatever type of toon you were born as determines what your life will end up being like. For example, as a moth, I am more nocturnal, so it is expected that my life will have me be on lookout at night for anything going on then," Hover explained.
"Oh, that's cool! Is that also why your tribe name is Moongazer?" Scraps guessed.
"Indeed it is! You are named based on something likely to happen because of what you're named after," she added.
"Cool! What would my tribe name be, if you don't mind me asking," she requested.
*Let's see, she would easily be considered a night hunter because she is a cat, but the is also paper which makes her name a bit harder to think of,* she thought, before it hit her. "You'd likely be named either Paperhunter, or Ratcatcher," she answered.
"Oh, I uhhhh, don't think I really fit either of those, hehe," she admitted.
"You likely would have if you were born in my tribe," Hover stated. That is when a new story hit the news.
"In local news, the well-respected manager of the local Burger King has just been arrested for charges of child abuse. His name has been censored to keep the anonymity of his son, who will be moving to live with his aunt," the news reporter started. "The thing that really makes this special is that the call warning of the child abuse came from the Gardenview Educational Center and Museum, and the call supposedly came from one of the toons rather than any of the adults working there," he continued.
"Whoa, Gardenview is getting a mention like THAT? I wonder which toon called," Scraps admitted. She just smiled looking at the screen as she knew what that broadcast meant.
Kevin's dad was going to face the justice he deserved.
