Work Text:
A sigh left in relief of the warmth as we boarded the airship back to Old Sharlayan. After the feat of at least saving some in Garlemald. My mind was still reeling from my trip into Elpis. I found the nearest seat and sat down. A weariness in my body over all that transpired. The Final Days had come for the already suffering country. But at least we mitigated casualties as much as we could.
I glanced around the area. Seeing the Lopporits making idle conversation with the various other people. My gaze focused to Livingway talking with Fourchenault. For a moment, the man’s eyes glanced at mine. I felt a bit of apprehension, our interactions have not been exactly positive. Just as quickly, he broke contact to focus his attention to Livingway once again.
My gaze went skyward to the metal ceiling. There was a brief lull in our travels. The small moments to take a breath and collect myself before we become swept up in our next step. I took the small reprieve to gather my thoughts. Knowing I would have to explain what I learned in my trip to the ancient past and the true nature of our troubles.
I felt someone sit beside me.
The slight chill of skin contact, I turned to the source. Eyes widened that it was Urianger. There was a sheepish smile on his face. He took my hand into his, rubbing the top of my knuckles. He seemed satisfied at my reactions as he leaned closer into my shoulder.
“I have missed thee, [little star].”
I nodded into his arm. I hadn’t expected to reunite with him so soon. To be honest, I hadn’t expected to see him again until the final hour. But I wasn’t going to complain about this. A deep tiredness settled in my heart. Again I couldn’t get out of my mind those last few moments in Elpis. I found myself grateful I was able to return at all.
“I missed you too,” I murmured.
His free hand stroked my long hair. I could feel his body relax at the touch. I felt myself relax at being in the company of my husband. There was so much work to be done once we make landfall. For the moment I just wanted to live it as a woman with her loved ones.
