Children of the Forgotten Star

Summary:

What happens when the seven children of the star from a far-off dream come forth to confront those who've forgotten the star?

Bringing with them the Starlight of Judgement.

Notes:

This was heavily inspired by works from ThinkMind and Zero_Haven, their fanfic are goated. This isn't likely going to be turned into a whole story; it's just an idea I've had for a while and wanted to write it. Originally, I was only planning to release two chapters, but I currently have ~1000 words, and I wanted to publish what I already have.

I'll try to finish the fanfic, but it might take a bit of time as I have University HW and midterms coming up.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Conversation within the Royal Castle

Chapter Text

Nightfall envelopes the capital of the Kingdom of Lugunica as thousands of stars begin to reveal themself in the night sky.

It’s been several months since the battle for Priestella, with the defeat of the Sin Archbishop of Greed by the hands of Emilia and Reindhard, and the capture of the Sin Archbishop of Wrath and Pride.

An unremarkable man strolled through the street, stargazing has become a hobby for him to take his mind off the stress of life. Leading him to become accustomed to the constellation.

Luckily for him, tonight was a clear sky, with full views of the stars. And while observing the stars, he notices something new, high in the sky, there were several new lights in the night sky.

Seven new stars shine brightly, overshadowing their fellow stars around them. Their ethereal light drowned out the night.

He then blinks in surprise as those same seven stars started to increase glow until all of them suddenly disappeared, leaving that area now vacant of light.

Though he doesn't know why, he’s overcome with this foreboding feeling that tells him, tonight, something big was going to happen.

Royal Castle:

“Hmph, did you call my divine self for a meeting to merely waste my time?” Priscilla declares.

“Oi! No one dragged ya here! If you didn’t want to be here, shove off, you’d be doin’ us all a favor.” Felt rebutted quickly.

“Ho, there is a reason for myself to be here… my divine self feels the world turning to my favor. A message from the heavens, no doubt. Do well to amuse me.” Priscilla declares, covering her face with a fan, but even with that, the shadow of a smirk could be made out from the fan.

Before Felt could respond, Felix interrupted them, “Sorry for callin’ nyew all on such short notice, nya~. We wanted to discuss what should be done with Pride, nya.”

“Ah…Pride.” To be honest, Emilia hasn't given him much thought since she last visited the Capital to help in the integration.

“If there isn’t anything left to be gained from that Witch Cultist, then just execute him already” Rem coldly replied.

“That was the plan, unless anyone here has any interjection?" Wilhelm inquires, in turn, getting a silence response from the group. Though Reinhard did seem like he wanted to say something, he remained quiet, unwilling to voice his thoughts.

“Now then, onto the next agenda, How did the Raid on the Sage’s Tower go?”

“Let’s just say the results were… less than ideal,” Anastasia replied with a sigh, “Couldn’t even get close to the tower, y’know? We barely got through the Augria Sand Dunes ‘fore we had to turn tail.”

Although a failure, it was somewhat to be expected, if even Rienhard couldn’t get through, how would they? On a positive note, at least they made it out with their lives intact.

“Weeelll then, is there anything more to be discussssed?”

“Yes, back to Pride…” Before Julius could finish, he’s interrupted by a loud explosion from outside the Royal Castle.

At the sound of the explosion, all the camps rushed outward in varying degrees to find the sources of it, and bursting through the front gate of the Royal Castle, they’re met by 5 young figures.

Before they could react, the youngest of the figures, A black haired girl with amethyst eyes that’s cloaked in shadow rushed towards Reinhard, enveloping them both in a sphere a shadow that then condenses and disappears.

“That was high-level yin magic, I suppose!” Beatrice exclaimed in shock.

"Reinhard! Oi, where’d ya take him, ya bastards?!”

“Nya! They’re after Pride… or maybe Wrath, nya!” Felix said, pointing toward the prison tower that was now on fire.

One of the figures looked towards the other one amongst them, “That doesn't seem like something Rigel would do, it must have been Maia.” While the figure was exasperated, they didn’t seem to be

“Name yourself!” Julius yelled out as he pointed his swords towards the unknown group, though, upon taking a closer look, their figures seemed to oddly resemble people they knew.

“Oi! Ya picked the wrong pack ta fight with! Y’hear!?” Garfiel slammed his hands together, glowering at the group.

Beatrice takes a stance next to Emilia, filling the air with Huma and Minya.

Ram brings her wand up towards her chest as Rem grips her morning star, preparing to jump into battle.

Roswaal spread open his arms as magic orbs of multiple colors condense around his hands.

Felix stands somewhere in the middle, preparing his water magic to support the group.

Wilhelm draws his sword as well, taking a stand next to Julius as Julius’s spirit surrounds himself.

Felt lower herself as she pulls out her knife.

Al steps forward as well, feeling unnerved by the group, as if they reminded him of something, or, someone. Though, he couldn’t exactly put a reason on it.

The short silver-haired girl with dark eyes like Pride lifts her hand up as Huma forms in the air surrounding her to match the Huma and Minya of Emilia and Beatrice.

The long blond-haired with crimson eyes girl, who looked extremely like Felt, but only with longer hair and being slightly taller, pulled out a long sword, preparing for combat.

The young man whose hair color oddly matches Crusch, but with dark streaks in his bangs, amber eyes that are almost an exact replica of Crusch, and outfit that resembles Crusch’s attire, only the color scheme was orange, black and white. His face hardened with resolve as he also draws out a sword, with wind swirling around it.

The last person, the girl with midnight black-haired and ruby eyes stared at the group with an arrogant gaze and a confident smirk, her noble dress of red, black, gold, and orange that would lead others into thinking she was a princess was flutters in the wind as a raging fire blazes to life on her open palm.

“Ohohohoho~, Now this is quite the show! Go on, commoner, do continue to entertain me.”

“Ay! Arn’t ya going to help!” Felt scowled towards Priscilla

“Why would I? Mineself would rather watch you fumble around yourself to entertain my divine self.” She replied pridefully, carefully looking the midnight black-haired girl over.

“C’mon, Princess, maybe don’t poke the folks on our side, yeah?” Al said, somewhat exasperated.

“Normally I'd have struck you for your insolence, jester, but the show ahead will be promising enough that I’ll spare you.”

With a small sign, Al readys himself to fight these children, or, well, he assumed them to be children.

Chapter 2: Bonus 1

Summary:

The Envy and Forgotten Cast's reaction to certain events.

Notes:

Hello! Thanks for all the comments on the previous Chapter. I really appreciated them.

One of the main goals and reasons why I wrote this fanfic was for the bonus chapter. I absolutely love reaction-type fanfics, especially when there's a well-kept secret being revealed like RBD for Re: Zero. I also love 'Re: Judgement of the Forgotten' as it really brings the consequences to the Forgotten cast in a way I don't think I've seen a lot of before. And I got tired of waiting for another similar one, so I took it upon myself to attempt that. Originally, I was planning to release a huge bonus chapter at the end, but Chp 2 was gonna take a bit and I wanted to write down this idea, so... here ya go!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Forgotten Emilia moved toward the door exiting where Forgotten Subaru and the Envy cast was, her mind a mess. A seed of doubt was planted with how Envy Emilia acted, and only grew more by what Subaru had said.

Taking a deep breath, trying in any way to prepare herself for the viewing ahead, that could possibly shatter their world view and give true context to why the Envy group acted like they did.

“Ack!” Emilia yelped as she smacked into an invisible wall, not allowing her to pass through the door frame. Causing her to stumble backward.

Forgotten Rem rushes forward to help steady Emilia while Beatrice continues to stare off into the distance absent-mindedly.

“Overseer! What’s the meaning of this?” Rem yelled toward the ceiling. Getting an unexpected response back.

“Kuh, kuh, kuh, the overseer’s on sabbatical, honey!” A higher pitched more feminine voice with amusement reverberated through the room.

The room lights up brightly, blinding both the Forgotten and Envy group, before fading as they seem themself in a new theater.

The entirety of the Forgotten cast minus Forgotten Subaru was situated to the left side of the theater. In contrast, the Envy cast was seated to the right alongside Forgotten Subaru, with a walking aisle separating the groups.

“S-Subaru!” Envy Beatrice exclaims in shock while hugging Envy Subaru’s sleeping body as her vision returns and she finds herself sitting on Subaru’s lap.

Which was then followed by others close to Subaru like Emilia and Rem, wrapping around him, trying to comfort the sleeping boy while also comforting themself.

“Huh… so this is the kind of theater you guys were in…” Forgotten Subaru remarks while looking around, the events of a couple minutes ago were still fresh in his mind. His body is still lightly shaking.

Envy Crusch rises, directing her words to the white-haired person at the front. “Who are you, why are we here again?”

“I’m Alpha, the Witch of Time.” She declares with a wide smile and an over-exaggerated stance.

“To claim the title of Witch… you understand the weight of those words?” Forgotten Wilhelm stated cautiously.

Alpha puts a finger to her face, “I don’t think I’m the witch you should be worrying about!” She replied with a smirk, gesturing to the closest row to the screen of the Envy group's side. Drawing everyone’s gaze there.

“Well, this is quite the precarious situation we’ve found ourselves in.” The white hair girl with a green butterfly pin stated.

Most of the audience stared in shock at seeing her in the theater, having figured out her identity from their previous viewing, being that of the Witch of Greed, Echidna.

The Forgotten cast recognized her from Emilia’s trial at the Sanctuary, and while the Envy cast also remembers that, they more remember her from her interaction with Subaru during the first trial and the witch's tea party.

As for the other women around Echidna, the Forgotten cast didn’t explicitly know who they were, but they could guess that these women were also witches as well.

Especially the shadow enveloped silver-haired half elf with amethyst eyes glaring into their souls. Absolute hatred written on her face.

“Y-you’re…” Forgotten Emilia started with shock, seeing the extreme resemblance of the witch to herself, their almost identical appearance.

“Seeing that you’re not out right attacking us… we wouldn’t be wrong to assume that you’re Satella and not Envy?” Envy Emilia hesitantly asked the Witch of Envy.

Satella’s glare moves over the Envy Emilia, only lessening lightly. “While we’re in this theater… I’m able to better hold Envy down.” was her flat answer.

“Why… Why do you look like me?” Forgotten Emilia stuttered out. But not getting a response from Satella, only a stronger glare.

“W-wait, wait, wait! Why aren't you guys shocked!?” Forgotten Otto yelled toward the Envy group after noticing the lack of shock on their face.

“Isn’t it obvious commoner? It’s because the half-devil and her circus already knows.”

“You see, we saw all the witches in our viewing through Natsuki-san’s interaction with them during the Sanctuary trials.” Envy Otto said, supplying the context to the Forgotten cast.

“To…to use love in such a-a way, how despicable.” The pink haired girl said with a trace amount of anger in her voice.

“Ugh… what a… drag.” The magenta eyed girl said between yawning, glancing around the room in a lazy way with half drooping eyes.

“Umu, treating Baru like that, it must mean that you all are bad people no~?” The little tan skinned green hair girl declared.

“Mmm, Subarun seems to have gotten himself into a sticky situation, huh?”

“I hate this…I hate this…I hate watching him suffer while you all just sit there!” The blonde-haired woman crossed her arms while seething in her wrath.

“Nya’re all witches!?” Forgotten Felix yelled out in concern while the forgotten group tenses, and while the Envy group also does a bit, but it’s to a much smaller intensity.

“You’re all…Carmila, the Witch of Lust, Sekhmet, the Witch of Sloth, Typhon, the Witch of Pride, Daphne, the Witch of Gluttony, Minerva, the Witch of Wrath... Echidna, the Witch of Greed... and Satella, the Witch of Envy…Right?” Forgotten Subaru explained with some hesitation.

“It would have been more than a year since we last met, no? It warms my heart to know that you still remember us” Echidna stated while holding a hand over her heart, a pleasant smile on her face.

“Heh, figures, it seems bro is rather well connected, even with the witches.” Forgotten Al remarked to Envy Al, getting a nonchalant shrug back.

“Now that introduction is out of the way, let me explain to you guys why you’re all here!” Alpha continued, an open jar of what the Envy cast knew as mayonnaise in her hands

“You’re all here to view an… alternative universe that’s quite interesting and deeply related to some of you guys.” An odd look that could be interpreted as malicious enters her face.

Alpha then vanishes, moving herself to the way back of the theater. Before any of the other Envy or Forgotten groups could interject with anything, the screen comes into light as something starts playing on it, drawing all their attention to it.

“Hump! To think the commoners would believe that achievement was of her own merit, how laughable!” Envy Priscilla remarks with a laugh.

“Tsk, no one asked for your opinion!” Envy Felt snarked back.

“Felt, it’s alright, I…we do deserve it.” Envy Emilia replied to Felt, calming her down a bit.

“It is difficult to imagine how… Pride… could’ve helped in that fight.” Forgotten Julius stated, hesitantly calling Subaru the title of Pride.

“Once again, Natsuki-san isn’t the best fighter, but it was him who came up with the strategy to counter Regulus’s authority.”

Subaru blinked in surprise, recognizing the constellation, “Ah, It’s the Pleiades constellation.”

“Pleiades constellation…? What’s that Subaru-kun?” Envy Rem asked.

“...It’s a collection of stars also known as the “Seven Sisters”, or “Subaru” in Japan-”

“Japan?” Someone from the Forgotten side asked, which was promptly ignored.

“-anyways. I just found it odd that that set of stars resembles the Plediades constellation so much.” Subaru explained simply, still having mixed emotions about the Envy group.

“Ah! Because the name of the constellation is the same as your name.” Envy Emilia exclaimed, making the connection and getting a small nod from Subaru.

“Seven sisters, huh” Forgotten Anastasia thought while looking at the Seven Witches of Sins while rubbing her fur scarf.

“Oy, Reinhard, ain’t there a place with the name “Pleiades”?”

“The Pleiades Watchtower” Forgotten Otto answered, getting a light glare from Envy Felt in response.

“Knowing Subaru’s name ties right back to Plediades, perhaps we wouldn’t have even been able to even get through the front door if we did make it through the Augria Sand Dunes.” Forgotten Anastasia though with a small annoyed sigh.

“Huh? But Subaru said that the constellation’s from his world, right? So why’s the tower named after it?” Envy Petra throughout out loud.

“Um… “from his world”? What’s that supposed to mean?” Forgotten Petra asked her counterparts.

“Barusu isn’t from this world, that's why he’s so out of place and incompetent.” Envy Ram snarky replied, earning a small but not negative sign from Subaru.

“Is that so?” Forgotten Crusch pushed through the pain to look toward Forgotten Felix.

“...P-pride did mention that he wasn’t from this world, nya. But Ferri just assumed it to be his madness, nya.” Which gained glares of contempt from the Envy Emilia Camp.

He then blinks in surprise as those same seven stars started to increase glow until all of them suddenly disappeared, leaving that area now vacant of light.

Though he doesn't know why, he’s overcome with this foreboding feeling that tells him, tonight, something big was going to happen.

“How ominous~” Echidna remarked.

“Ominous?... more like... troublesome...” Sekhmet replied through yawns

The remark from Priscilla sparked some confusion through both groups.

“I…didn’t reckon ya luck was precognition" Envy Anastasia dryly stated.

“My divine luck will be what it needs to be to best suit myself.” Envy Priscilla declared.

Subaru raised an eyebrow, it sure would be nice if he was lucky enough for the world to take a break from beating him down and send someone to come resume him. But that’s impossible, his rotten luck won’t allow it.

“Oi, Reinhard, ya think you could grab a Divine Protection that can match her luck?” Forgotten Felt asked her knight.

“...Ah! My apologies Felt-sama, I was lost in thought for a moment. Unfortunately, I don’t believe such a Divine Protection exists.” Forgotten Reinhard’s eye then glazes over again slightly as he looks off into the distance not unlike Forgotten Beatrice, deep in thought.

Forgotten Felt stared at Forgotten Reinhard with the tiniest amount of concern, before refocusing back on the screen.

Before Felt could respond, Felix interrupted them, “Sorry for callin’ nyew all on such short notice, nya~. We wanted to discuss what should be done with Pride, nya.”

Envy Beatrice held onto Envy Subaru tighter while Envy Emilia gripped his hand tighter.

Envy Petra, who was sitting next to Forgotten Subaru, noticed his light shaking at the sight of Felix, grabbing his hand gently, she gave him a weak but confident smile, hoping to lift his spirit slightly, which succeeded in calming him down a bit.

“Ah…Pride.” To be honest, Emilia hasn't given him much thought since she last visited the Capital to help in the integration.

Envy Emilia winced at that statement, while Forgotten Emilia now felt a pit in her stomach that wasn’t there before. Had this been before they’ve been confronted by the Envy crew, perhaps this pit wouldn’t even be here.

“If there isn’t anything left to be gained from that Witch Cultist, then just execute him already” Rem coldly replied.

While Forgotten Rem doesn't fully disagree with the sentiment, she couldn’t voice her agreement either, being muttered by herself. Forgotten Ram places a supportive hand on her shoulder, feeling her emotion through their link. Both ignoring the cold stare and scowl Envy Rem was giving to Forgotten Rem and the on-screen Rem.

“That was the plan, unless anyone here has any interjection?" Wilhelm inquires, in turn, getting a silence response from the group. Though Reinhard did seem like he wanted to say something, he remained quiet, unwilling to voice his thoughts.

Both Reinhards briefly looked toward each other for a bit before Forgotten Reinhard looked downward, internalizing his regret.

Envy Wilhelm leans backward with his eyes closed, his hand rubbing the bridge of his nose.

“Welll, it seeeeems I’ve made my apareeeeence." Forgotten Roswaal stated to no one, observing the on-screen Roswaal’s degraded state from an outside appearance, now understanding what the missing piece was.

“Oi, I’ve been meaning to ask,” Envy Ricardo gestured to the screen when looking over to the Forgotten group, “this viewin’ from your world?”

Forgotten Julius shocked his head, “I don’t recall us ever having a meeting where all of us were gathered together since Priestella.”

“Yes, back to Pride…” Before Julius could finish, he’s interrupted by a loud explosion from outside the Royal Castle.

“...Mimi doesn't remember there being an explosion in the Capital” Forgotten Mimi absentmindedly said.

“Mimi, I don’t think this viewing is from our world. It’s very similar, but not quite the same.” Forgotten Hetaro replied.

“Hk!” Satella’s voice hitched for a moment upon seeing the young amethyst eyed girl. A sense of recognition sparking inside of her and Envy.

“That was high-level yin magic, I suppose!” Beatrice exclaimed in shock.

Forgotten Beatrice refocuses from her thoughts upon hearing herself from the screen, “What does “high-level” mean, I supposed?” That word didn’t feel exactly foreign, but she couldn’t recall the exact meaning of it either.

“It’s a term used to describe something as powerful, I suppose.” Envy Beatrice stated, narrowing her eyes at the screen. While the effect of the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony’s authority was strong, it seems that small stuff could potentially break through.

“Reinhard! Oi, where’d ya take him, ya bastards?!”

“Nya! They’re after Pride… or maybe Wrath, nya!” Felix said, pointing toward the prison tower that was now on fire.

Envy Felt snorted, “They’re definitely ain’t after Wrath. Whoever they are, they’re definitely after Big Bro.”

One of the figures looked towards the other one amongst them, “That doesn't seem like something Rigel would do, it must have been Maia.” While the figure was exasperated, they didn’t seem to be.

“Rigel…Maia… they do not appear to be names we recognize.” Forgotten Frederica said, “Do you guys recognize them?”

“Hm…not really.” Envy Frederica replied, glancing at the other Envy group and receiving similar responses.

Though unnoticed to all but the witches, Subaru’s eyes widened a bit. Having recognized those kinds of names.

“Name yourself!” Julius yelled out as he pointed his swords towards the unknown group, though, upon taking a closer look, their figures seemed to oddly resemble people they knew.

Envy Julius gave an uncomfortable grunt, not wanting to see himself trying to stop these people from freeing Subaru from his imprisonment.

“Oi! Ya picked the wrong pack ta fight with! Y’hear!?” Garfiel slammed his hands together, glowering at the group.

“Tsk” Envy Garfiel crossed his arm, a huge scowl was on his face as he saw himself about to fight against the people trying to free his captain.

A majority of the Envy cast looked uncomfortable seeing a version of themself stop the people who seem to be trying to save Subaru.

Or well, who they assume is saving Subaru. Hopefully it’s that rather than the alternative.

While a large group of the Forgotten cast was indifferent, it wouldn’t be inaccurate to say that there was now some level of doubt in them.

The short silver-haired girl with dark eyes like Pride lifts her hand up as Huma forms in the air surrounding her to match the Huma and Minya of Emilia and Beatrice.

Both Emilias looked at the young girl, sensing a bit of recognition from the young girl, more so for Envy Emilia than Forgotten Emilia.

The long blond-haired with crimson eyes girl, who looked extremely like Felt, but only with longer hair and being slightly taller, pulled out a long sword, preparing for combat.

“C-C-Capella! Nya!?” Forgotten Felix yelped in concern upon seeing the petite blonde crimson eyed girl with some resemblance to the Sin Archbishop of Lust.

The hope that built up in the Envy group waned as the realization that this could, instead of being a rescue mission, actually be a kidnapping mission from the Witch Cult with the goal of capturing Subaru Natsuki.

Forgotten Felix narrowed his eyes at the green haired young man, something about him seemed…uncomfortably familiar.

The last person, the girl with midnight black-haired and ruby eyes stared at the group with an arrogant gaze and a confident smirk, her noble dress of red, black, gold, and orange that would lead others into thinking she was a princess was flutters in the wind as a raging fire blazes to life on her open palm.

Upon her entrance, both Envy Priscilla and Forgotten Priscilla looked the girl over. While they’re unable to gauge her as well as their on-screen self, they’re both able to figure out the ruby eyed girl was special in a way only they were.

In addition, Envy Priscilla was able to notice some physical feature unique to a certain scary eyed individual on the girl.

“Ufufufufu~” Envy Priscilla laughed out loud, earning even a slightly raised eye brow from Forgotten Priscilla.

“What’s so funny, huh, Princess?” Al asked cautiously.

“I’ll humor your question this time, jester. What myself find so funny? It’s simply that you fools haven’t figured out their identity yet.” Envy Priscilla replied with a smirk.

“They’re witch cultists, yeah? One of em’s a spittin’ image of Lust!” Forgotten Felt exclaimed.

“It’s only natural that a street rat like you wouldn't be able to grasp it.” Envy Priscilla mocked Forgotten Felt.

Forgotten Felt growls toward the smirking Envy Priscilla as both Roswaal’s eyes widen, understanding what Envy Priscilla was saying, a small smirk forming on Envy Roswaal’s face.

“How interesting indeed.” the Witch of Greed stated, a pleasant smile on her face as she soaks in any information she could get from the new group of people.

“A…ah, I see, so t-they’re his…” Carmilla started, but her voice got too quiet near the end for anyone to hear.

“Oh! They’re Ba-” Before Typhon could finish Alpha stops her.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk. No spoilers, o’kay?” she said while waving her fingers back and forth.

“Welp, that's all for this chapter, but don’t worry, there will be more!” Alpha stated to the group as the screen went dark.

Forgotten Subaru grabbed his face with his hand, a slight blush crept up his scar ridden face as the implication of who those young people were and their heritages sunk in. While it’s true that he still has some mixed feelings towards everyone, and he doubts any new revelation will change how he feels toward Emilia and the others for the positive. These new people did stir some sort of emotion in him that he couldn’t exactly explain.

Envy Beatrice, Ram, and Otto’s eyes opened slightly upon realizing what the others had as well.

“There’s…There’s no way, could one of them be Rem’s…” Envy Ram thought in slight horror.

Notes:

Chp 3, which will continue Chp 1, probably won't be out for a while, as I'm planning to reread Re: Starlight Dream again to get a better understanding of all the Children's personalities and interaction with one another.

Just another thing I wanted to clarify, I'd likely end the main chapters (And fanfic) around when the children get Subaru and dip out of the Capital, that's currently the end goal at the moment, it's unlikely I'll continue past that moment.

Anyways, comments and feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Notes:

Constructive criticism would be extremely welcome!
