"I'm getting a baby brother, I'm getting a baby brother, I'm getting a baby brother!"
Caleb sang in a giddy, 'na-na-na boo-boo' tone, his feet barely touching the living room carpet as he skipped in frantic circles.
Patience watched, giggling, from her rocking chair as her pregnant belly shifted.
Caleb had been like this—practically vibrating with excitement—ever since she told him he was getting a baby brother.
The thought of being an older brother thrilled Caleb immensely.
It meant he would finally have a playmate every single day, and a companion on all his adventures.
He knew his life would change, but only in the best way imaginable.
"What will his name be?" he asked, skipping to the side of his mother's chair.
"Your father and I haven't fully decided yet," Patience told him, gazing down at her plump belly with a soft smile. "Though, I think Philip would be a fine name for a boy."
She was thinking of her own father, a good man whose name carried weight. Perhaps the name would bless her son with the same noble path.
Caleb repeated the name—"Philip..."—and looked down at his mother’s tummy. A wide smile spread across his face. He liked the name too!
"Do you think Philip's hair will be blonde like ours or brown like Father's?"
Patience chuckled at Caleb's question.
"I'm not sure, but I'm hoping for brown. A second brunette would be a nice touch to the family, to balance things out."
Caleb tilted his head curiously toward her belly.
He then looked up, the question already forming on his lips: "Mother, where do babies come from?" He truly wondered how Philip had gotten inside.
"Heaven," she informed her oldest son with a sweet smile. "They are gifts from God. He blesses the mother with them, and they bring great pride and joy to the family."
Caleb's brown eyes began to sparkle at that fact. He had no idea! Casting a smile down at his mother's stomach, he gave it a light, reverent pat.
"I'm so glad God decided to gift you to us, Philip," Caleb whispered to his little brother. His expression softened with adoration.
"I can't wait to see you."
